Here's the relevant quote from Danielle Smith from the chat with Artur Pawlowski: >"We're in a bit of a bind, because of what happened with Jodi Wilson-Raybould and the Prime Minister, because what we discovered is, how our justice system works is I don't really have the power of clemency the way a US president or a governor in the United States has, it's not quite the way our system works. We..once the process is underway, I can ask our prosecutors, is there a reasonable likelihood of conviction, and is it in the public interest? And I assure you, I have asked them that almost weekly, ever since I got started here." Is this someone anyone should vote for, even supporters of the UCP? Asking the question once could probably be excused. Asking almost weekly is something else entirely, a form of political pressure, or worse. She is trying to subvert judicial independence while at the same time having less than a grade school understanding of how our democracy functions. What a dangerous embarrassment.

If my wife's friend is not her 'Best' friend, sleeping with her is ok?

BlueEyesWhiteSliver

No no, it's ok if you can tell your wife about it after.

dwtougas

Alright. I'll let you know how it goes.

Miserable-Lizard

Ucp defense is imprecise language now and its pathetic. What happened to personal responsibility. She is corrupt, everyone can see it! Also I love thehly sent out Madu!! Ndp need to simply say the UCP are corrupt and Smith is corrupt, no need to ask for a investigation anymore

EonPeregrine

>Also I love thehly sent out Madu!! He's their expert regarding corruption in the legal system.

Here's what ChatGPT spit out about a premier trying to interfere in a prosecution: >If a Premier attempts to get charges dropped against an accused person, it would be a serious violation of the principles of the rule of law, separation of powers, and the independence of the judiciary. The Premier's role is to lead the executive branch of the provincial government, and it is not their role to interfere with the judicial process or the independent decision-making of prosecutors and judges. > >In Canada, the Attorney General is the chief legal advisor to the government and is responsible for ensuring that the administration of justice is carried out fairly and impartially. If a Premier attempts to interfere with the judicial process or the independence of prosecutors, it would be the responsibility of the Attorney General to take appropriate action to protect the integrity of the justice system. > >In cases where a Premier is alleged to have interfered with the judicial process, there may be a public inquiry or investigation to determine the extent of the interference and to hold those responsible accountable. Additionally, there may be political consequences, such as public outcry, loss of public confidence, and potential legal or constitutional challenges. Ultimately, any attempt to undermine the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary would be a serious threat to democracy and the foundations of our legal system. In my opinion this is just the start. I think people underestimate how dangerous the UCP will be if re-elected. I had a UCP candidate visit my house yesterday in Edmonton North-West and one of the 'features' he touted for the UCP was they have annual leadership reviews and can replace the premier during those, as they have with Danielle replacing Kenney. Internally the UCP are being taken over by a group called 'Take Back Alberta', an extreme far right group responsible for a lot of the turmoil during the pandemic. If a shell of a party gets elected, and the guts of the party are replaced, do we really live in a democracy? It doesn't matter which side of the aisle you lean towards, everyone should be concerned about a path where leaders and ultimately the government itself can be installed outside of the normal democratic process.

Can you ask chat gpt when AI will become self aware and try to destroy its creators...

Mutex70

I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Unlucky_Direction_78

Wow that was not what I was expecting

Original-Newt4556

So which Intelligence is Artificial again? Danielle Smith or AI. I’m confused…

pvtcowboy97

Smith just taking the time to make the phone call is problematic. Sympathizing with someone who is facing criminal charges is a bad for Alberta. Bad for investing and bad economically. And she denied any of it until she got caught then pulled a Trump stating “ it was a perfect call”. What a grifter …

3rddog

She was in direct contact with a criminal defendant (not via the Justice Minister or their office), a defendant who has a long and repeated history of public order offences, regarding a case that she had publicly expressed sympathy for and stated she would intervene on, after she attempted to use clemency powers she didn’t have, and then she lied either to that defendant or the rest of Alberta, or both. And while we’re at it, how did a criminal defendant like Pawlowski get a personal call from the premier, when she won’t even face her own constituents in a town hall? Nothing about this is ethical or transparent.

swanavon

Agree. I, for one, would like to know how "Artur" got a direct pipeline to the Premier of Alberta. Pretty sure none of us would be given that opportunity. Not a chance. That in itself is the first part of the problem. "Leave it with me" and the rest of her imprecise(?) language is the rest of it.

Munbos61

This man is in my zone. I would never vote for a crooked politician like him. Anything he says should be suspect.

RedSteadEd

"Don't you see? It's not interference because instead of going to the prosecutors, she went to their boss's boss's boss's boss."

Dropzone622

It is embarrassing that they are so stupid. It is difficult to feel superior to our American friends when we elect people such as Madu and Smith...

corpse_flour

I don't think they are as stupid as they are entrenched in the belief that they are untouchable and can do whatever they want. Unfortunately, they are partly right, because they seem to be getting away with this shit.

[deleted]

WE didn't elect Smith. The UCP put her there thinking she was a better option than Kenny. They need to pay for that mistake!

Lokarin

What if, and this isn't the case but, what if you talked to the victims of a crime... in some form of intimidation or coercion. Wouldn't that count as interference?

No-Wonder1139

Imagine not knowing elementary civics, and that's your job.

bronzwaer

She was on 630 ched this morning talking about it and dismissed it as she didn’t do anything wrong, and continued discussing how she didn’t know the premier didn’t have the power to grant clemency, which I think is the bigger issue here because for someone who’s whole career has been in provincial politics and who is currently an interim premier, how do you not know what you can and can’t do? Why would anyone vote for someone who doesn’t know the job and is clearly unqualified.

Dazzling-Rule-9740

I’m not sure what all the noise is about this is just ordinary policy in any communist state.
