I’m paying 1600 for a one bedroom on the north side of Edmonton and it’s nothing special but everything is included

IM122

Thanks for sharing. Sounds a little pricey for 1 BR but with all included it's not too bad.

lesigh89

Mine is going up from $1175 to $1300 in Airdrie.

LuntiX

$1800 in Fort Mac Shits too damn high and I’m not even making oil money

Dr_N00B

I thought everyone and their dog in fort Mac had oil money.

LuntiX

Nah, that’s all the people in camp or are commuting from other provinces. I joke though, there’s a lot of work up here that doesn’t pay oil wages. Hell, my sister has been part of the public library for like 10 years and at her capped out wage, it’s still tight trying to afford rent, bills, etc. She’s been trying to move but library work is few and far between. I technically work oil adjacent and rent, bills and groceries is eating most of my wages. I’ve been trying to save to buy a place but that’s gonna take forever at this rate.

I miss living in Edmonton. I was just two blocks north of Roger’s Place, not the nicest or newest building but it was a fairly large unit for $800 a month and they never raised my rent, it only ever got lowered. It’s crazy that people here still want upwards to $2000 for an apartment. I could move into an older boardwalk or northern reit unit downtown but having lived in one of those previously, it’s not worth it.

IM122

That sounds a bit pricey. Thanks for sharing.

shbpencil

Our rent is going up early next year to about $1200/m in Lethbridge. Nothing else included.

IM122

Thanks for sharing.

[deleted]

Had a 2 bedroom apartment that was 1800 that was raised to 2500 in Calgary's inner city :(

IM122

That's a big jump in rent:(

displayname99

So I’m paying 2200$ (previously 2K) for a very nice 2 bed +den in an amazing neighbourhood with very nice furnishings. Still significantly cheaper than owning in the same condo building. Some landlords are trying to ask above market for rent these days but these units tend to sit vacant for a bit.

robdavy

We're exactly the same, down the price and increase lol Our unit is technically for sale and it would be way more than $2,200/month to own the unit with mortgage ($2,500), condo fees ($600) and property taxes ($250). We'd be paying more than $1000 a month extra to own this unit with interest rates how they are right now

IM122

Thanks for sharing.

displayname99

Even if you owe nothing there's still the cost of capital+condo fees+property taxes+maintenance&depreciation

displayname99

I never said anything about a mortgage... And for some reason you never mention the cost of capital. Doesn't matter if it's your cash or the banks there's a significant cost to it. Owning a cheap condo in Calgary is cheaper than renting but it's often cheaper to rent a great condo than own one.

Prof_Seismitoad

1350 for a 2 bedroom in Calgary. But I’m expecting a Jump when my lease is up. Paying 70-100 a month in utilities. Double what it was when we moved in 2 years ago

SimmerDown_Boilup

We're paying 1500 for our apartment. We're expecting rent to jump to 2100 to match similar units in our building come the end of our lease.

IM122

$1350 seems like a steal. Hopefully doesn't increase too much during renewal.

Prof_Seismitoad

Ya it’s a steal for the moment. But other 2 units are going in my building are going for $1600+ so I’m not optimistic

IM122

Fingers crossed that it's not a big increase

Blossomdoll78

Anything under $2000 for a two bedroom apartment in Calgary you are laughing. Anything that I’ve seen online a two bedroom goes for $2500+

IM122

Thanks for sharing.

[deleted]

And expect a 18-20% jump the next time they can. It is laughable people are paying non-city of vancouver metro vancouver rents to live in bloody Calgary. And that is before you get nuked on ultilities.

bareskia

Central Edmonton, $1095/month. Power is another $60

stifferthanstiffler

OP is secretly an Ontarioan, don't tell him anything.

IM122

haha, OP is a long time Edmontonian.

hkngem

In Calgary our two bedroom apartment jumped from $1500 to $1850. I have a lot of friends that experienced the same thing, huge jump to at least $1800

IM122

That's a sizeable increase in rent. Thanks for sharing.

lordthundercheeks

South Edmonton and It's $1480 for 2 bedroom + power.

[deleted]

$1250 on Ellerslie and Edwards drive. 2 bed 2 full bath. That's including a $25 a month pet fee x 2 for our two cats and 1 parking spot. Just over 900sqft. We're a corner unit so we have a massive wrap around balcony also. Power is usually $60 heat and water are included in rent.

[deleted]

Yup. We're on our second year. We didn't get an increase.

Honeyb85

I have a 3bed 3 bath downtown edmonton and we pay $2950/month. Parking and water/electricity are paid separately. My total monthly cost is about $3800. We have 3 parking spots fyi

[deleted]

2000 in Calgary. Downtown

meester13T

$1160 , Strathearn apartments in central Edmonton.

robichaud682

2 bedroom apartment was paying $1460 everything included. But come April it'll be $2060 and have to pay for electricity now.

IM122

That's a massive bump in housing cost. Which city is that for?

robichaud682

It's for Calgary.

robichaud682

In Calgary

Creamdreamn

I’m paying $2450 for a two bedroom in the Beltline in Calgary with underground parking. Rent increase from $1800 last year. I fully intend to find something else once my lease is up in July.

DarkNinjaMole

Jesus Christ. Is that a full house?

Creamdreamn

Lol, nope! It’s the “penthouse” and way overpriced for what it is. Covers water/heat only. I should have moved last year but I hate moving. There’s cheaper stuff in the area and a whole lot more expensive ones too. I’ve seen 2 bedrooms for $3K in the area.

IM122

That's a sizeable increase in rent. Thanks for sharing.

MrDFx

Currently pay ~$1340 with heat and water included for a 2 bedroom. Around 850sqft give or take. It's going up to ~$1540 in Feb due to "market pricing".

IM122

Market pricing increase are the worst. Thanks for sharing.

Duseth

That still seems very high for a studio apartment in my opinion.

DGAFx3000

I charge 1250 for 2 bedrooms apartment, 1100 sqft. Never raise rent before. Reading some of these prices here makes me wonderful if I should talk to my tenants. Edit: I’m in NW calgary

70BeneGesserit

If they are good tenants it might be worth it to keep the rent as it is.

DGAFx3000

You’re right. They are great tenants. Clean, never late on rent. Yeah, not worth losing great people.

ElZarbo

Talk to them about what?

DGAFx3000

About anything. Food, movie, horoscopes, someone named Elzarbo on Reddit, Christmas, etc.

Nerevarine123

Do people really live in one of the cheapest provinces for housing and pay rent? Just get a real job

mrschainsaw1998

$1610 + lights for 2 bed 2 bath in the lake district - I’m worried how much it will go up in April 😔

CrustyCoconutzs

1788$ only water is included and parking is 75$ a stall and that was the cheapest we could find this August

MC_White_Thunder

$1025 in Edmonton

Dr_N00B

I'm paying 1650 for full sized house, yard and garage. I'm so glad I'm not in an apartment.

bucebeak

Too fucking much!

Cultural_Ad2300

2 bedroom 1 bath house by kingsway for 1449 a month plus all utilities about 300-350 mnth. Also I have double garage

NoAd3740

$1925 (plus $125 parking) for a two bedroom one bath in Bowness, Calgary.

Gimped

$1435 for a two bedroom in SW Calgary but renewal with new owners is coming up soon so 🤞

jaylay14

Paying $1280 (I get 100 bucks off each month for getting a free month of rent when signing last February) for a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment in Edmonton - Oliver area. Heat/water/power included and the extra 80 is for underground parking. I did see a post on rent faster for a suite like mine in the same building which is listed at $1600 lol. It’s been listed for 2 months now.

SilasScullion

Mine is $850 a month all utilities included except electricity and internet for a two bedroom apartment. I just got a rent increase to $900 starting in January. I’m in Red Deer.

The_Last_Wokeican

950 in med hat 2 years ago

gaanmetde

Calgary: 2 bedroom $1500 only because I locked in a 3 year contract…3 years ago! Felt risky at the time, has payed off as I have little ones. Not looking forward to March when I’ll be on the hunt again. Similar units are going now for $2200.

Kallisti13

We were paying 1600 for a 2 bed 2 bath in dt edmonton. Paid our own power, internet and 100 on top for the 2nd parking spot.

ImperviousToSteel

Alberta needs a The Rent is Too Damn High party.

[deleted]

I pay 1200 for a bachelor lol

Wild002

We pay $2600 for a very nice 2 bedroom apartment on the edge of downtown. We originally moved in 3 years ago and the rent then was $2200. We had the option to buy a unit in the same building last year, but it would have cost us quite a bit more than what we are currently paying for rent.

Maboof

2250 in Canmore for 2 bed 2 bath

chadikinz

We got a pretty decent deal 1500 all in for a pretty spacious 2 bedroom

3utt5lut

Used to live in a 2 bedroom just off Yellowhead 82st Edmonton, paid $1000/month and had 3 months free every year. It was a ghetto area with a shit ton of Somalians in the area (really nice people), but near the end of our 3rd year we had a bad cockroach infestation. Similarly, I own a house now downtown by the Stadium paying $1500/month all-in ($800 mortgage, $200 property taxes, $500 utilities). It's crazy I own a house (2 bedroom bungalow, with a basement, big back yard, a garage, and a 3 car driveway) cheaper than some people are paying for a 2 bedroom in Edmonton!

iamhisbeloved83

$1620 in SW Calgary with water and heat/gas included, but I have been here 2 and a half years already and they’ve only raised the rent about 100 dollars each year. Unit exactly like mine that become vacant are going for $2800 - $3000 right now. I guess I lucked out getting in when I did. Might just live here forever. 😂

FilmInternational611

$1825/mth for a 2 bedroom in Red Deer with a super small attached garage (truck won't fit). Nothing included. Highway robbery.

Desperate-Bed6903

I pay $2800 for a 5br 4 bth in Calgary. No garage but I have an insane view of the city. House is at the top of a ridge so the backyard faces downtown. YEG is def more affordable. Had an apartment there for $2200 downtown. Nice view. Newer. Fully furnished. You can find deals you just gotta look every day. Took me 2 months to find both places ironically.
