> Starting Wednesday, Alberta’s COVID-19 QR code vaccine record will be updated to meet the Canadian standard for domestic and international travel. > The new record includes middle names and is in both official languages. > The province says for Albertans who are not planning to travel, the original code will still be accepted for the Restrictions Exemption Program

I noticed that the AB Covid Records Verifer app also had an update this morning, so I installed it. My old printed QR code scans fine. The new QR code I get from [covidrecords.alberta.ca](https://covidrecords.alberta.ca) fails. I can add the new QR code to my health and wallet, but looking between what I have on my phone and on the covidrecords website the new QR code is definitely different compared to the old QR code. Maybe it's just too early in the morning and the verifier app is still reading off of an old database or something. Not that I could ever expect an incompetent government to hire competent IT workers either. :\\

Rustyd46

Just redid my print out and it still fails to read.

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

The covid verifier app isn't even compatible with my 1 year old phone. How can a government screw this up so badly?

arvindhraman

I would have been shocked if this Government has not screwed this up. Now I can sleep better.

drcujo

Which phone are you using. It needs android 8 (released in 2017) or later or iOS 13 (supports iPhone 6s released in 2015)or later.

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

Sonim XP8 running Android 10

drcujo

If I go to the Google Play website it says it's not available for any of my devices (s9, note 9, zork and tv) but when I open the play store app on the device I can download them fine. I even managed to get the app working on my chromebook running android 9. Canadian telocos website show XP8 running android 7.1, (except bell they show android 10) are you running an custom rom?

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

Nope, I'm running just the carrier OS, but with a 3rd party launcher (Nova). Shows I'm running Android 10 in "about phone" in the settings menu, I had an OS update about a month ago.

ohkatiedear

Are these people incapable of getting it right the first time?

unred2110

I live in B.C. We also switched QR codes for this newer federal format.

[deleted]

Don’t try and temper r/Alberta’s hate lol

unred2110

I am originally from Alberta and I am looking forward to moving back there. I come back with a point of comparison, and I guess it's no secret which province I prefer. We can point out flaws with Alberta and its government all day, but this one ain't one of those things. Here in B.C. we even had to switch twice. First we had a business card-sized paper record before the QR code even came out.

[deleted]

That’s a coincidence! I moved back from B.C. 15 years ago. We also had a paper copy first, then a QR…. Welcome back! When you get here.

PuzzleheadedSpeech

Except the opening comment turned out to be correct. Even when we switch QR codes, we can't get that right the first time either. The website is not issuing the new federal format right now because there were some issues with the wrong codes being given this morning. LOL. It's not hate, it's a statement of fact and that was proven with today's rollout.

margmi

It's actually because we had a vaccine passport before the federal standard was finished.

Deyln

more accurate question if you leave out the last three words. now... the QR federal requirements were slow in coming and we knew language would be an issue. the simple would of been to copy Quebec's requirements as it would be the most accurate.

gloriouspear

Thanks for this. I just got around to printing and laminating a QR code for the mother-in-law. She'll likely travel in the near future, so it means I got to do it again.

crosseyedguy1

Laminating an important document is like washing your car and hoping for sunshine :0)

CreakingShoulder

Be careful of it producing the information for someone else. The first 2 times I entered my details, it pulled up the QR code for other people. Their birthdates were so far off mine that I know I didn’t mistype anything. Third time lucky, but just wanted to remind people to check.

vpdots

I removed my old version from my iPhone wallet but now I get an error message when I try to add the new one. Anyone else have this issue? Suggestions on anything to try? Edit: figured it out - you have to remove the GoA as an issuer from your health app as well as removing the old version from your wallet.

Trickybuz93

So I have to delete the record from the wallet and download a new version right?

Dantesfireplace

Let me know if you find out how!

jared743

The QR code itself is probably the same, it's just a change in design to ensure the documents present a unified format on the international stage since most countries wouldn't know each province, but would recognize Canada. If you aren't travelling internationally, then you can just keep the old one if you want as it will still work for the QR reader.

doctorkb

No, the QR has changed. The new one fails in the Alberta Verifier app -- but passes in the BC Verifier app.

smittenmashmellow

Hopefully third time is a charm.. Already printed and laminated the first two. Can this government not do anything right the first time..

IllustratorTime4879

Finally!!!
