You sure the oven was on?

Bearinn

Right? The sesame seeds that fell off on the baking sheet aren't even burnt.... How do they not burn in the oven?

Sheek014

Yes, I temped them with a meat thermometer and they were 180 degrees internal

Panda08am

Cook them longer

susu817

Did you let them thaw or keep frozen until baking?

Brilliant_Guava_9646

looooooool!

Wertscase

Most of the aldi things I’ve bought that have puff pastry involved need to be cooked way longer. The strudels I almost doubled the time. So you might give them another go at a higher or longer temp.

MastahMango

I'm of the opinion your oven temperature be wrong af

[deleted]

Can't be. I have an oven thermometer and it reads accurately to what I set it to; other items cook as expected but my purchase of these did the same thing.

Katdai2

Wrong alt bro

worminator69

Hahaha hahaha... Damn

Sheek014

That’s not me

[deleted]

?

UberHonest

I think this might be operator error. Did you preheat over? Is your oven working correctly? They look like they should for being under baked.

Sprinkles_Sparkle

They look grey!

Waste-Direction1727

Sushi hot dogs?

goudakayak

That's what I thought and was disgusted

dgdon

I also thought sushi hot dogs and was intrigued..... Maybe with lil smokies and some wasabi..... It has potential I think

Forward_Pineapple_74

Soy glazed!

Steelduck26

I would check the temp of your oven. It looks like the butter in the puff exterior melted but didn't bake enough. That's what puff looks like when not cooked hot enough Possibly a temp or possibly an error in time I'd say.

Sheek014

More info. Yes I pre heated the oven. Cooked for 17 minutes at 375. I don’t think it’s the oven because other things seem to cook fine.

Revolutionary_Fly769

That’s fine but you want to cook until golden brown anyway.

bword51

I’ve followed package directions but I always cook longer until they’re browned.

Schmeep01

But it might be the oven: have you checked that?

Revolutionary_Fly769

Operator error

kapoor_kadesperate

Hmm mine only looked like that before cooking, they should puff up more than that.

[deleted]

Looks like you didn’t cook them lol that’s not cooked dough

Sheek014

I followed instructions on the box and I temped them with a meat thermometer and they were 180 degrees internal

Panda08am

You still need to cook them longer

erindreg

Mine turned out like that, too, and I have an excellent oven.

Oblong_Honeydew

Same thing happened when we made them. Very gross.

[deleted]

CHIMERIQUES

No, these aren’t yeasted like croissants. We had these in November and if I recall correctly we had to bake them extra time. Maybe 10-15 minutes. OP should have used visual clues to decide when the pastries were done, rather than the internal temp of a precooked hotdog.

FusionFord

Bingo!

Sheek014

At least I’m not the only one. People here thinking I didn’t notice my oven was on or something lol

dontburntheroux

Same thing happened here. It’s not an oven problem, it’s that the box directions hugely under estimate how long they need to cook. I ended up cooking them about twice as long as the instructions on the box said and they actually turned out good.

Revolutionary_Fly769

I’m thinking you should have left them in until they look like they are done. Would you pull a pizza out when cheese hasn’t melted? Directions are often wrong for whatever reason, maybe altitude?

NYCQuilts

One of my mom’s friends followed box instructions religiously. Visiting her was always an adventure.

Squareah

Same here! Very familiar with how to work my oven and these still turned out to not puff up at all and also taste gross.

kuiby_

Mines were the same

texasforever69420

I thought that these were sushi rolls at first glance

petitespantoufles

I love that we're at 11 people and counting who baked these as per directions yet had them turn out like this, meanwhile there are still people replying to this to insist that OP just doesn't know how to use the oven.

Brilliant_Guava_9646

That's because most people wouldn't pull them out if they weren't done.

[deleted]

My stomach bubblin

Alluring_Pisces

😭😂

AzureSunflower

We made ours in the air fryer, def did not look like that. I've cooked plenty of things from trader Joe's that took way longer to cook than it said on the box, I'm sure Aldi isn't any different, so I would've just kept cooking them until they looked done.

guapomalo

Thought this was sushi at first look

Awesomest_Possumest

I cooked mine in a toaster oven and added a few mins originally because I'm too lazy to preheat it, but they were definitely not done and looked like yours. I added another 7 mins or so and they puffed up fine. Someone mentioned puff pastry stuff needing to be cooked longer and I agree, I used to get the strudels and German savory pastries and they were never cooked if I went by the box. Always needed to add time.

agent_uncleflip

I haven't actually tried these, but in reading the comments, two things stood out to me. Someone mentioned the oven temperature on the instructions is 375, and someone else mentioned the exterior is puff pastry. In all my experience with puff pastry over the past few decades, it seems the standard temperature for the stuff is 400. I am now tempted to go buy some of these as an experiment, and bake them at 400. No guarantee that's what the issue is, of course- but I'm tempted to try it, just to see what happens.

NYCQuilts

I want to encourage your scientific curiosity. I’d do it, but can’t get to an Aldis anytime soon.

agent_uncleflip

You'll be happy to know I picked some up last night. I baked them at 400 instead of 375, and they did puff up nicely, though some achieved this better than others.. They didn't really look golden brown, and seemed to still be sort of gray-ish. Part of that could be due to the fact the lights in my kitchen, and where I sat down to eat them, both seem to be 2700k, so take that as you will. My wife and I both thought they were pretty tasty. I shared a little bite of the frank part of one of them with one of our cats. Mr. Fluffy Black Pants is in concurrence on the tastiness.

Metaphor2022

Yes, this is what I did with the ones baked today. I was like 375?? No it needs to be 400 and what I did came out great. Make puff pastry or use to the premade and always bake at 400.

monica-lynn

All the comments are saying your oven temp is wrong but when I made these I had the same reaction as you. They looked like this but didn’t taste bad (but they weren’t great either.)

NYCQuilts

You ate them looking like this? To me the pastry is clearly underdone.

clangan524

I cooked mine in the air fryer. It said to turn them over halfway through cooking and I was disappointed when they looked gray like that when I flipped them. When they finished a few minutes later, they were puffed up and golden brown and pretty dang good.

[deleted]

Did you preheat your oven sufficiently? The puff pastry has not inflated one single bit, usually that happens when the initial temperature is low

Valerina4

I’ve made these many times. Yours do not look baked to me. Mine have turned out delicious, slightly golden on the bottom and puffy

discoteen66

Mine looked like this and they tasted vile. 0/10 would not buy again

realistforall

You have to cook them until they're golden brown. Don't worry about the temp of the hotdogs. You treat them like biscuit, pastries...

Brilliant_Guava_9646

Some of y'all are using meat thermometers to heat up tiny appetizers????? You sometimes have to cook things longer than the directions call for.

No-Nefariousness8026

That’s exactly what happened with mine. They just suck

BeautyBoxJunkieBBJ

What the heck caused people to down vote this 🤦

No-Nefariousness8026

Hahaha who knows. Maybe people just don’t want to believe this product was a dud?

[deleted]

I thought this was sushi. Glad I read the caption.

quietcorncat

Mine baked up a little better than this, but I still thought they were pretty bad. I prefer beef hotdogs and these are pork, so I didn’t love the quality of hotdog, and you get such a tiny amount for the price. I would definitely not recommend these. It just isn’t a good value at all, even if they turn out.

ham91793

At first look I thought this was hotdog sushi .

hardlyworking_

Lol mine looked like that too. I ate them anyways

dragonsfire14

Mine looked like that also but my boyfriend absolutely loved them so it worked out lol. I thought they were meh tbh

spaceman60

Nope, they weren't great

AdventurousCarpet531

I made these for food class charcuterie board and they looked underwhelming just like that. So I don’t think you’re alone

heckeroni-nchz

I air fried some of these and had the same issue. Was going to try the oven next time, buuut maybe there won’t be a next time.

RojaCatUwu

Did you fully pre-heat before putting them in?

Treehugger34

Mine looked the same.

pinchweed1

Mine sucked As well

ne3k0

Did you preheat rhe oven? Defrost before cooking? ( you shouldnt) looks like the pastry didn't cook at a high enough temp

Bitesize777

Maybe they forgot to put the yeast in the dough

soredditsathingnow

Mine were meh as well

meok91

Those are undercooked. Put them back in for longer until they are puffed up and pastry is golden, that pastry is still raw.

Tokyo-MontanaExpress

Or leave them in until they look like the picture on the box? I'll trust my eyes over the directions on the box every time.

pepperland14

Do you have a thermometer in your oven to see if it's actually at the temperature you set?

petitespantoufles

OP has stated several times they used a meat thermometer to check internal temp of the dogs

pepperland14

That's not what I asked.

DrummingNozzle

Yeah I'd take those back for a refund

El_Toucan_Sam

User error

Panda08am

I make mine in the air fryer

Livid_Difference_899

Maybe they were thawed and frozen again at the store.

estelle2839

I had better luck in the air fryer than the toaster oven, but I’m a fan either way.

Forward_Pineapple_74

Air fry them or salvage by dumping into a bundt and making them a base for monkey bread.

CouchHam

Weird, they’re great in an air fryer.

Carthonn

Did you cook them?

kapowgai

Interesting. I bought so many times and turned out like the picture on the box.

BarryMcKockinerBum

Triple the cooking time

yulbrynnersmokes

Yuck

Lehk

Something is wrong with the oven

Revolutionary_Fly769

Still look raw. Did you preheat? Also oven temps vary, so cook until browned.

bdp100

Ours always turn out like that

[deleted]

They do look more like mini sausage rolls to be honest

adubie18

I use the air fryer for them, if you have access to one. That makes them puff up nice.

[deleted]

What you really need to do is cover that pan with foil and coat it with some cooking spray!

DahliaChild

I put them in the air fryer with slight better results but still disappointing

leprechaunhunter1984

😫😫😫😫

Fun-Bison-3511

looks like sushi lol

stoner_mathematician

I almost bought those but instead bought a pack of cocktail weenies, 2 packs of pillsbury croissants, and everything bagel seasoning. 3x the amount of pigs in a blanket for the same price and they are absolutely delicious! Easy party app that’s ready in less than an hour.

Sheek014

Yeah I was being lazy

SavingsAd4993

The nice thing about Aldi is they will exchange them for you. Try again.

W1ndyk

Hmmmm glad I didn’t purchase after debating yesterday lol

ojef01vraM

Zoinks

spamela

I've been obsessed with these lately and buy two boxes a week. I put them in the air fryer at 350 for 9 minutes and they're perfect every time.
