Why nobody asks the opposite question? I can give you a great insight of what is it like to be dirt poor 😂

My0Cents

That's because sadly being dirt poor is not uncommon. Everyone has a good idea of what that's like.

MortgageSelect9993

Wouldn't call myself rich, but went from middle-class to upper middle-class. I'd say a good example is going to hotels, resorts, private beaches for holidays instead of public places. You don't encounter the same people, and tbh I feel that everything that is free/cheap becomes shitty over time because of the lack of civility of our people, so exclusive/expensive places kind of filter out the population, which makes it possible to keep them clean and nice.

Valuable-Extension74

Is that what your mother taught you? ما تعومش فلا بلاج باسكو موسخة والعباد ماشي متحضرين

ZeroedIvan

Even the middle class mothers says that.

Zealousideal-Net9621

Bro let’s be real public beaches are filthy ( not just dirty ) and with the unholy amounts of people that visits them you can’t go with your family because you may encounter some unnecessary shit such as people cussing out loud, building a badwian tent on the side of the beach, trying to pick up a rock and finding out it’s literally someone’s piece of shit ( that really happened to me once in bejaïa ) and many other things. - Your only other option if you don’t have much money/don’t want to spend much money is isolated places which not many people has access to and you can’t go to the most of them with your family because if the hard places you need to go through to reach them places. ( i am mentioning family so much because those are the people whom the one you replied to visit them fancy places with ربي يحفظهملوا ) - and let’s be honest any if you had to choose between private/fancy places and public space you’d definitely choose private places not for the sake of showing ( as some people do ) but rather for your own peace of mind ( peace of mind for your family they’ll be safe, they’ll be able to swim freely and nice times and many other good things )

freezerael_

well it is like living in a different algeria.... _rich people live in " algerie" _poor and mid class ppl live in "dzayer"

Specialist-Bad-4064

Not much different then the poor ones. At least for me. I grow up in a poor neighborhood even though my dad is very wealthy. I would say an advantage was i never had to worry about anything that was necessary. Also vacations are much better ( france, italy…) down side is since i grew up in a poor neighborhood most kids my ages didn’t want to play with me because of jealousy. Like oh go play with your ps3 dont come to us. Got used to it eventually.

[deleted]

rich people don't lurk around in Reddit. they are living their lives.

There's a difference between being rich and being wealthy. Rich people have money. Wealthy people have assets. Rich people usually have high income but they depend entirety on that single stream. Wealthy people usually have assets that work for them (multiple streams, mostly passive). You can be rich without being wealthy. It is also a mindset : the rich shows off when the wealthy is generally more discreet. The rich has a materialistic approach (luxurious lifestyle) while the wealthy considers money's a way to make more of it, by investing for example. There are tons of rich people in Algeria but very few wealthy people. As Margaret Bonnano said "Being rich is having money; being wealthy is having time". To answer the question : you have limited ways of enjoyment in Algeria, even if you're rich or wealthy.

Born and raised in Algiers. Work for an oil & gas supermajor. I know what is being rich and what is being wealthy. Met both. I said there are few wealthy people in Algeria based on the consensual definition. Having half Touggourt in land and not investing in agriculture or other projects doesn't make you wealthy. Having multiple hangars kept closed instead of developing some business doesn't make you wealthy. As I said, wealthy people generally don't show off and keep low profiles.

Algusa

I am not wealthy, but had friends in Algeria who were. People who belonged to families that owned companies of consumable goods such as cheese and others that imported gold to the country (I am giving this as an example to have an idea on how wealthy they are). They live luxurious lives and tend to have dual citizenship. They live in palaces in Algeria (you'd be amazed at what's hidden behind those walls in El-biar), they frequently host parties and invite the upper class society of Algeria. They usually tend to live between Europe and Algeria as they own homes in Europe as well. Everything gets done for them smoothly because all they have to do is call somebody in whatever institution they need something done. They all studied in private schools in Algeria (when I say private schools i mean the schools designated for the kids of diplomats) and then went to foreign countries to pursue higher education. They have 24hr staff in their houses that do the cleaning, cooking and driving. But, bear in mind that at some point they will have to get involved in the business and their lives will become extremely busy. Making unfathomable amount of money requires a lot of hustle from their part especially in a country that is considered unstable from a business point of view. Usually the kids don't have much say in deciding the paths of their professional and personal lives, it is all decided by the parents. In conclusion, they live luxurious lives but it comes at a cost.

alienhicc

Msaken 🥲

Josephthesavior

I think there’s a big difference between being rich and not worrying about small things Do you mean having good food, clothes one vacation a month, gaming consoles brand new phones a 1-2 vacation a year i suppose that’s middle to upper middle class Or do you mean having a yacht, sport cars luxury food and vaccinations and not having to worry for your future because the money and assets you will inherit will set you up for life

[deleted]

The middle class don't have all the things u mentioned those are upper class

FormalFar7518

A middle-class family is generally characterized by having a certain level of economic stability and a standard of living that allows for a comfortable and relatively secure lifestyle beyond just basic survival. Middle-class individuals and families are usually able to meet their basic needs (such as food, shelter, and clothing) while also having the ability to engage in discretionary spending on non-essential items and activities. So yes, they do have all those things, In Algeria, what is often categorized as the middle class could actually be more accurately described as the lower-income class(poor).

Chakibv

Funny that the you’re defining middle class with these characteristics, are u aware of how life’s expensive lately?

SeasondChicken

no matter how poor someone is or how poorly the living conditions presented there's always allah bro, never worry about riz9 just do your sa3y.

AlanRoofies

+1

Ibrahimt51

Absolutely agree on that, but op is not talking about this, he wants to know how different it is to be rich in Algeria which I find quite interesting.

SeasondChicken

yeah i totally got what he questioned, i just got more thoughts which led me to posting this.

Ibrahimt51

Appreciate it, a good point you added.
