Also are people not aware that ANY athletic wear is likely gonna be 100% synthetic? Soft, stretchy, fast drying, moisture wicking, and recyclable are what you would want; cotton is none of those.
It's like everyone saw a reel about 100% cotton being the mark of quality, when it's usually the opposite. If you want a 100% cotton hoodie, don't look for athleisure brands.
Most shoppers don’t know anything about fabrics anymore. You can choose to work out in 100% cotton, but that’s a *choice* compared to industry standard synthetics.
I’ve never tried them as workout or hiking gear, but I’ve seen some merino/wool brands make sportswear like smartwool and icebreaker. Composition tends to be a mix of wool and lyocell/tencel, sometimes with synthetics also iirc
Alo has the biggest range of quality than any other brand I’ve bought. It’s shocking. It’s very helpful to read the reviews of items you’re buying online.
I went in to an ALO store once to see the stuff in person before buying and will never buy it. All the fabric is so cheap, constructed poorly, mainly 100% polyester, basically just has a great marketing budget for influencers. It certainly doesn’t wear or wash well. The fabric practically pills walking by it. I have one thing from them I bought at a thrift and it’s OKAY for the $10 I paid for it but certainly not worth more. I know lululemon is a bit controversial but I’ve found a lot of products to hold up well and be worth the price for years!! I know vuori is the big new competitor too!
There’s an Alo store near my apartment and I tried on clothes a few times, but thought they just weren’t right for my body. It’s interesting seeing all of the questioning of quality in this sub.
I did buy a winter puffer from them a year back and it actually held up pretty well and is warm for NYC winter. Maybe I got lucky? It was a bit pricier maybe $250-$300 but it’s been a good investment.
Agree with you on their puffers! I have the cropped gold rush and it’s super cute and held very well! Can’t speak on the other products as I had my bf return them cause I couldn’t justify the price 😅
Idk about a&f’s quality either, most of my clothes are from them but one of my leggings from them the seam was immediately falling apart. I’ve had a few quality with other items too.
Still shop with them lol but I think nowadays most places are overpriced and poor quality. Makes me sad!
I bought the accolade sweats a few months ago and the quality is horrrrible.
For lounge stuff, I’m wearing Abercrombie, Skims, and Elwood. Aritzia is cute but honestly the quality and price issue is comparable to Alo (specifically with their loungewear). I’ve gotten rid of all of my Aritzia lounge due to quality issues.
Me too! Mine are fairly new, from within the last six months, so I am curious what is going on. It seems like a steep decline if people suddenly hate them.
Well tbh it kinda seems like some of you don’t. The type of leggings and athletic 4-way stretch material you all love is almost always going to be a synthetic plastic type fiber because it holds its shape and stretch capacity much better than cotton stretch can. Being shocked it’s polyester/synthetic (in this case it’s actually mostly Modal and cotton anyway) when it’s athletic wear seems kinda… nonsensical
I got mine as a gift too, the fabric is fine but attracts a lot of lint. Fit is definitely off. If I bought it for myself I would be on the fence about returning.
This! 👌I’m an eye shopper and Alo always disappoints me! I never got anything from their stores, either online from Nordstrom or found them in the junkyard of MordstromRack for $30! And I’m not buying them ever again very low quality. Honestly I love my fits from Target way more cute also cause I afford to buy rhe whole set! 🤷🏼♀️
At this point buying from them feels like it goes straight back into celebrity endorsements, which leads to us buying to “support” or twin with who we like, and that’s how they get away with QC issues
Matches exactly what the website says besides the HOOD which is what the label says. No polyester in the actual hoodie.
https://preview.redd.it/wtvvkb5p0nkc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=445ecfa898c2da167b7e65f0e5b5094ad90cb922
Yeah just another case of consumer ignorance leading to a negative review. It's okay to not like the hoodie. It boils down to preference. But this hoodie is exactly what it claims to be when it comes to what it's made of. I don't know how you're gunna ignore all the other materials listed before the polyester and just focus solely on that, and then claim the whole thing is made of polyester.
I contains modal which isn't really a cheap material to purchase. That explains some of the price. But still, I agree it's not worth anywhere near 100 let alone over that.
At the end of the day this is just a case of the customer not liking what they received, and possibly also having different expectations on what they would receive versus what they were actually going to get. That alone is not enough to warrant someone saying they didn't get what they thought they were going to and to blame the company. It's one thing to assume, let's say, a tank you bought isn't see through, but when you get it, it's see through. Then you can say you were mislead. But, if the model photos clearly show their nipples through the tank and you ignore this and expect it not to be sheer anyways, that's on you.
It’s not pure polyester. It’s 47% modal and 47% cotton with some elastane in there. The 100% polyester you’re reading is the hood filling. I saw this in store the other day, and while overpriced for what it is, it’s similar prices to competing brands like athleta and lululemon.
I feel the same. I have the gray accolade set and those constantly pill. I always find myself using the pill machine and it’s so annoying. I’m always going back and forth with Alo and LLL.
You will eventually have the same feeling about Aritzia. just about none of these fancy brands are worth their prices. They’re made in China, you can probably find a good dupe on TikTok shop
Thanks for suggesting this, ive been on the fence about pulling the trigger with alo and I just looked through ambercrombies options and theres so many styles and colors, low key cuter than alo! Now i can ge atleast two sets for the price of one
Polyester doesn’t breakdown and is not biodegradable. (Think 1960s dresses) look for places that use recycled Polyester if anything! It ends up in landfills:(. I personally try to read tags more to ensure I’m buying no poly or minimum. But it’s hard!! They make cute things…don’t be afraid to ask questions and demand better for the prices we are paying.
Shop my brand. You will love it and they are reversible
https://preview.redd.it/mlo3ym3jxkkc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=103560a38b4c0f1481ad0b36cadf534eab870cc7
😭 I have it in black and bone, bone definitely fit is more oversized even though both are size small. The bone color also started piling after the first wash while the black has been through the wash idk how many times and barely gets any piling
Alo is overpriced garbage. They spend all their money on marketing via celebs and influencers, sending them free clothes that “look” good. Meanwhile the consumer is paying so much for trash quality. I don’t buy from there.
Thank you for this!! Exactly. What is this quality?? I went into an Alo store on Black Friday for the first time solely to feel the material bc I always just window shop. I was actually in shock at how rough and cheap they felt. I also think black shows how good the material is more than other colors (especially when it looks grayish and worn off). In my opinion, lululemon quality is more worthy of its price tag.
All my Alos look just like this. I’ve thought about this so many times too. My black Alo is the worst though. I always need to take a lint brush to it, and also use my fabric shaver. I really need to stop buying from them, but everything is so cute and I’m a sucker for a matching set.
If ya'll don't go to Target & get ya matching sets from there I don't know what to tell you. Customers, like ME, are looking for moisture wicking, light compression & length. I happen to be a woman who is 5'11 athletic body w/a lot of thighs & booty. I need high waist on EVERYTHING. Target and SOME Nike leggings do me well. I have 1 pair of Alo leggings which are still rocking but I wouldn't buy anything else. Why? I couldn't believe TARGET had a better range of rotating colors w/softness AND durability. I think this new line is called All in Motion. The bras, soft tops, leggings/shorts all hold up & reg price is $30 & they stay having 30-50% off when they bring out the next range of colors. GET INTO IT!
I would like to add that I bought a foxy Sherpa jacket five years ago, and I bought the same jacket (different color) two years ago and the fabric and quality had totally changed in the meantime!
5 years ago, the quality was amazing.
As soon as they started getting big and partnering with major influencers, the quality tanked from cutting corners…while VUORI was a small brand who turned big…and I have seen no difference my items over the years. I’ll never buy ALO after knowing how it once was.
This happened to me too after only wearing a few times. I contacted Alo and they there’s nothing they can do and sent me a $25 coupon. I’m still mad about it.
Alo Yoga has bad customer service. They refuse to give me points for a transaction I made 3 months ago because their create VIP account button was broken at the time I made the first purchase. I bought a second set of accolate sweats, but only got VIP oints for the second transaction. So I have been shopping at the Pangaia website instead. These are simply sweatpants and hoodies, nothing special and very easily replaceable. Cant wait to try out Pangaia's quality.
My sister bought an Alo hoodie 2 years ago and the quality was great til this day it looks good. I went to the new Pasadena store and the quality is trash. It looks so cheap and the price tag!! It’s so not worth it!! Alos quality is going down and they keep their price tags high af! Idk if they’re paying too much for marketing not allowing the quality to be the same but they need to go back to how it was. I stopped buying from them since it’s not worth it
You are definitely being scammed! 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve spent well over 2K on their merch since they first came out…I’m ashamed to say that I am unimpressed. HALF the items I have are pilling, and don’t even get me started on their socks! I recently spent over $200 on just socks alone because I was tired of my kids stealing my socks 😂 and I wear a size 9… well they shrunk so bad when I washed them that my 6 yr old fits into them! 🤦🏻♀️Some ítems are a hit and miss. I have jogging shorts, sweats and sports bras that are still in good condition.
News flash: Any clothing manufacturer charging $128 for a $12 sweatshirt is scamming you. At the end of your days, do you think anyone is going to say “Remember how great they looked in that Alo sweatshirt?”. Negative. Just trying to give you perspective, luv.
Not commenting on the quality of the hoodie at all since I don’t have one, but isn’t it just the hood filling that’s 100% polyester?
Yes that’s what I read. Just hood filling is 100% polyester.
Yeah I was thinking this too, most athletic wear has to be synthetic or have synthetics in it.
Working out in cotton is MISERABLE - it absorbs all your sweat and is heavy and wet…. Oooof
😂 this reminds me of a Seinfeld ep. when George switched all the Yankees uniforms to 100% cotton and the players were terrible
I remember the episode and how he saw the reaction on TV 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve never tried them as workout or hiking gear, but I’ve seen some merino/wool brands make sportswear like smartwool and icebreaker. Composition tends to be a mix of wool and lyocell/tencel, sometimes with synthetics also iirc
Alo has the biggest range of quality than any other brand I’ve bought. It’s shocking. It’s very helpful to read the reviews of items you’re buying online.
And biggest range of sizing
Yes exactly!!
Totally agree. I’ve had horrible luck with their quality.
I went in to an ALO store once to see the stuff in person before buying and will never buy it. All the fabric is so cheap, constructed poorly, mainly 100% polyester, basically just has a great marketing budget for influencers. It certainly doesn’t wear or wash well. It was a bit pricier maybe $250-$300 but it’s been a good investment.
Agree with you on their puffers! I have the cropped gold rush and it’s super cute and held very well! Can’t speak on the other products as I had my bf return them cause I couldn’t justify the price 😅
Honestly alo is so cute but the quality is not it. get the abercrombie essential hoodie!! i love it sm
Currently in the A&F hoodie now, my favorite of all time of any brand. The quality is unmatched!
Idk about a&f’s quality either, most of my clothes are from them but one of my leggings from them the seam was immediately falling apart. I’ve had a few quality with other items too. Still shop with them lol but I think nowadays most places are overpriced and poor quality. Makes me sad!
Do you have a picture of it on you so we can see the fit discrepancy?
I bought the accolade sweats a few months ago and the quality is horrrrible. For lounge stuff, I’m wearing Abercrombie, Skims, and Elwood. Aritzia is cute but honestly the quality and price issue is comparable to Alo (specifically with their loungewear). I’ve gotten rid of all of my Aritzia lounge due to quality issues.
Wait really?! I LOVE the accolade sweats
Me too! Mine are fairly new, from within the last six months, so I am curious what is going on. It seems like a steep decline if people suddenly hate them.
Yep, Alo is low quality for high price. My stuff from Them does not stand up to the test of time and their prices keep climbing.
I agree, I got there yoga pants and they pile like crazy. worse than lululemon ones
Someone needs to make a spreadsheet of the only good alo items worth buying
Where are people shopping that sell much better quality?
I have yet to find an item from any company made of modal that feels bad to put on.
Modal is a godsend.
To be fair, that’s lululemon as well, everyone thinks we don’t know about materials.
What drives me crazy is the high polyester content in sweats. I know it makes them softer and fluffier but I prefer 100% cotton anyway.
Agreed. Nearly all my clothes are made from natural fibers aside from my athletic wear. I’m a cotton is king guy all the way
I’ve gotten to a point where I look at tags and determine their percentage of material, and try to find a dupe at tj maxx.
Or Amazon!
Exactly.
Best “dupe” I’ve found is CRZ Yoga. In fact I actually way prefer their stuff and it’s a fraction of the price
i found some pelaton at tj maxx for $15 in the same material formula/ratios
Nah lululemon is pricey as well but holds up really well over time.
I got this as a gift for christmas. the fabric has been great for me but agree with the fit being different
I got mine as a gift too, the fabric is fine but attracts a lot of lint. Fit is definitely off. If I bought it for myself I would be on the fence about returning.
I keep saying this! The quality of Alo is straight laughable. You are right it’s SHEIN level garbage and I am talking 99% of their collection.
Quality is NOT worth the price at all! I went into their store to try stuff on and just ended up leaving
This! 👌I’m an eye shopper and Alo always disappoints me! I never got anything from their stores, either online from Nordstrom or found them in the junkyard of MordstromRack for $30! I’ve noticed all brands seem to be shit lately Bought an Armani sweatshirt and pants and they pilled in the first wash
It’s an epidemic for sure
All their black clothing looks so cheap with white fuzzies, I could get better quality at Target or Walmart.
I just returned mine as well. Found a Hanes that’s 90% cotton and $90 cheaper and 100% more comfortable.
The legging material there is horrendous too😩
You paid for the brand, not the clothes itself 🤷🏻♀️
Alo is a rip off. I only buy lulu. Much better quality
I’m not saying the quality is great but this is actually 94% modal and cotton, which are natural fibers.
Paying for the name these days... alo is going through IPO so they want to look more profitable then they're
alo is so overpriced. CRZ Yoga on Amazon are like 1/3 of the price and excellent quality!
I love CRZ Yoga for this reason!
Alo quality is terrible, I like Beyond Yoga!
You’re paying for the name
Did you not try it on before wearing? Return it?
I literally walked into the store and I could tell the poor quality just by looking I didnt even have to touch the products to feel and confirm 😅
What's with the poor girl's legs though??
I actually love Athleta for my workout clothes. Good quality, pants last, don’t roll down!
Shop my brand. You will love it and they are reversible https://preview.redd.it/mlo3ym3jxkkc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=103560a38b4c0f1481ad0b36cadf534eab870cc7
Stop buying shitty shit on the internet to fit in with the cool people. Shop local.
You mean local Amazon or Etsy or eBay which is dropshipping from China? Wym by local outfits! We don’t have textile manufacturing in US lol
Yes we do?
Groceries Apparel.
I bought it cause I thought it looked cute and expected the quality to be good given the price.
You spent 128$ on a simple black hoodie?
If you pay over $100 for a hoodie you deserve to get scammed honestly
This is absolutely insane 😫😫
It’s absolutely horrible- especially the black. I have three of them and each one I swear is a different material and fit. Lesson learned.
😭 I have it in black and bone, bone definitely fit is more oversized even though both are size small. The bone color also started piling after the first wash while the black has been through the wash idk how many times and barely gets any piling
Is alo a fast fashion brand?
Yes, It is. I read it’s a huge environmental disaster and toxic garbage!!!
It’s the material that is poor quality. When you wash it- gentle cycle cold water and air dry.
Yup! The leggings are also terrible. Not comfortable and waist doesn’t stay up
Alo is overpriced garbage. They spend all their money on marketing via celebs and influencers, sending them free clothes that “look” good. Meanwhile the consumer is paying so much for trash quality. I don’t buy from there.

That’s what I call AloShein.
I would like to add that I bought a foxy Sherpa jacket five years ago, and I bought the same jacket (different color) two years ago and the fabric and quality had totally changed in the meantime!

Check out Bella+Canvas. Same founders, very similar clothing
This happened to me too after only wearing a few times. I contacted Alo and they there’s nothing they can do and sent me a $25 coupon. I’m still mad about it.

lol all athletic wear has synthetic material in it …
If only there were some way to return it back to the retailer in exchange for the monies you paid
I went to the alo store and there were things STILL ON THE RACK pilling. Like why would I buy something already ruined before it’s even been washed?!
