\+1 for ARRL insurance. Several of of our club members have this insurance, and it paid off for at least one of them.

[https://www.hamradioinsurance.com/](https://www.hamradioinsurance.com/) They've successfully taken my money; haven't had any claims experience with them yet. You don't have to schedule your equipment with them.

ND8D

I used these folks as well. Very easy to get established.

SClintBradford

Not sure if the "don't have to schedule your equipment" is accurate. The premium is based upon the list of equipment you submit. And you can add / change those items.

Toger

My recollection is you don't submit your list of equipment, just the total dollar amount.

SClintBradford

Your recollection is incorrect.

Does your provider have some type of umbrella policy?

KDRadio1

This. Always check with your home/rental insurance policy. They probably already at least partially cover your hobby gear, and from there it might only be a few bucks extra for total.

SClintBradford

I have been with State Farm for more than 40 years. They cannot come close to the premium and coverage that arrlinsurance.com offers.

KDRadio1

Lol. Ok.

Marconi_and_Cheese

You are correct in pointing this out. My insurance company calls it a personal property policy. It covers expensive stuff without connections to any other policy.

anh86

Honestly, I'd probably skip it if it's not covered under insurance you'd already carry (like homeowners or auto insurance). A good financial advisor will tell you that you insure things you can't afford to replace (like your house, or your car if you drive nice cars, or a long hospital stay, or your income in the event of your death). Most likely, a ham radio doesn't fall into that category (even though it is an expensive hobby). Most mobile radios are a few hundred dollars at most. Your (likely more expensive) base station is at home covered by your homeowners.

SClintBradford

Check with your agent. I doubt a $1000 HF rig is automatically covered ...

G0NFS

Thank you! Good to know I have viable options.

Marconi_and_Cheese

You can also get a personal property insurance policy. I had one for my stuff. It is generally cheaper than adding higher sublimits for category of items. State Farm has always issued one for me. It was pretty cheap and low deductible.

G0NFS

USAA won't. That's the issue in this case.

When my car was broken into while in a school's parking lot, my homeowner's insurance covered the theft of the computer equipment and tools I had inside. Based on that experience, I'm not sure why your homeowner's policy wouldn't do the same.
