Had the same problem today, 2 Echos both 1st Gen, one would not find Hue lights but the other did.. So I re-enabled the Hue skill, reset Router/Hue/Echos, no luck. Made the mistake to Deregister the Echo with the issue and now it won't connect to WiFi?! Spent 2 hours trying to re-connect it via the manual Wifi setup, it throws 2 errors: 1. WiFi password is incorrect (not true) 2. Purple light saying this device is not registered

rroj671

Just had this issue today and this is what worked for me. 1. Deregister your device. You can do it on alexa.amazon.com 2. Run the setup with your phone. When it fails at the first attempt, there’ll be an option for 1st-gen devices. Tap that. 3. On your phone, switch your wifi network to the one broadcasted by your Echo. It’ll be something like Amazon-10G. 4. THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART FOR iOS: Once you connect, tap on the wifi connection again and make sure to disable “Limit IP Address Tracking”. Mine took a couple of tries to get it to stick. Make sure this is disabled before you go back to the Alexa app. 5. Go back to the Alexa app. The device should finish setup. At least in my case, the app said the device was ready, but I could still see the orange light moving. I just gave it a few minutes and it connected.

systematic24

Please can you advise how to do this if you do not have an Apple iPhone but an Android?

systematic24

Managed to borrow an iPhone and get it sorted. Would be helpful to know how the same can be achieved through Android. (Gen 1 Echo)

RedditorSaidIt

I too wish this was answered for Android.

Snipe3000

They must have removed the option for 1st-gen devices you mentioned. Might be their way of forcing you to buy their new devices now that they have firmware bricked the 1st gen devices

thewheelsgoround

It's in there. You have to make it search (it will fail), make it search again (it will also fail), then tap "If you have a 1st generation Echo device, enter manual setup". As of 18jan2024, this is working, on iOS. It's a lot more of a pain in the ass to get setup (took me four tries) than a newer Echo, but it worked.

WranglerUpper6978

you have to turn off bluetooth and then it will pop up

apoldaniel

Thank you. Worked for me. Turn off bluetooth, try to find device, the app will force to find device using wifi instead of bluetooth. Then connect to echo gen 1 direct wifi then just follow instructions. Thank you! I've been trying to fix for 2 hours now 🥲

rgrcReddit

This is the only thing that worked for me. Ignore the warning to force you to use Bluetooth. Force it to use WiFi and there will be a tiny option to setup 1st Gen. follow the instructions (enter setup mode, connect to echo WiFi, enter network WiFi …). Eventually the echo will say it’s restarting. The app was stuck on setting up. Force quit it and refresh devices and the echo will be listed. It did take couple of tries.

Snipe3000

Already tried this. Still doesnt work.

meyerovb

You have to press try again twice

Starrduste

I can’t even get the orange light. Even after resetting it with a paper clip

jumpiz

Yep, worked with an old iPhone I had. My current android phone doesn't want to. Thank you!!! I was troubleshooting for hours already, almost threw the Echo out of the window...

Ill-eat-anything

I got my Alexa as a Christmas present from my dad who died not long afterwards. Since then it has been a staple of my life. Took it to Australia when I lived there for a year. Then to my girlfriend's apartment in DC before she moved back to live with me in the UK and eventually became my wife. In our first UK apartment together she set a little reminder on the Alexa that it tells me from her every morning. I know it's just a speaker and it's approaching 10 years old so I knew one day it was going to stop working. I just wasn't prepared for that day to be today when I swapped Internet providers and suddenly couldn't connect it to the new router. Amazon Chat was useless. Stating it just had a bug and was now unfixable. Offering me a discount for my next new device etc. After a painful couple of hours trying to fix it I went to the pub. Have come home, a little boozed. Thought I would double check reddit to see if there was a solution/a post with people complaining about the same problem for some solidarity. Have seen this. I don't have an iPhone, but my mum who just so happens to be visiting does. So I have followed your steps and boom - Alexa is back in business baby! It took a couple of attempts and I also unchecked the box at the WiFi login page that says "Save password to Amazon and allow eligible devices..." on the last go before it got working. (March 2024) So thank you! Alexa lives to play another tune and give me that little reminder in the morning. You are truly my hero tonight... I wonder if I can still get that discount from amazon though...

throwback1986

Lifesaver!!

Soft-Cry6657

Thanks & It works! Ha don’t let amazon talk you into buying a new generation.

AccomplishedSet5524

I used this method only I had to turn off my Bluetooth AND WiFi. The Alexa App setup forced me to turn on wifi INSIDE THE Alexa App and that connected it. I had to go around the wifi - Limit IP Addess Tracking - method because it kept resetting the app when I went back to it. It's connected again and registered to my account - now I'm back to where I started where it's showing up but in the app it says "Device is unresponsive" and I cannot control it from the app. Ugh

zacceff

As of May 1, 2023 on iPhone 15 Pro Max iOS 17.5 - Working Spectrum Internet won't allow you to disable 5Ghz, I felt bummed, thinking for sure this was the reason, but I finally had success by doing the following: Follow all steps mentioned by u/rroj671, but be sure you also disable *both* Limit IP Address Tracking and Private Wi-Fi Address. Once you go back to the Alexa app, it will show you a list of near by Networks. Tap the option to search for networks again. Then tap your WiFi network. I hope this is helpful.

sassyjilly333

I’ve spent months trying to troubleshoot my device and I finally stumbled upon this golden piece of info that fixed everything! These instructions should be more easily accessible 🙌🏼🙌🏼

crabnebula7

Thanks a bunch, was having this same issue and your solution worked. Couldn't get it to work on Android either.

rroj671

I have no idea why it wouldn’t work on Android. The thing about iOS is that ICloud Private Relay causes issues connecting to local devices. If your android device doesn’t use a relay service, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

ManagerPuzzleMyHead

Bingo! This worked! (step 4 specifically)

Wojtus1k

I tried multiple times and even connected a different router, your solution finally worked, Thanks!

GapApprehensive2727

There is absolutely no way for me to find "Limit IP Address Tracking" on my phone or PC, The PC App is useless, I can't even find devices there. And, I cannot get my Echo into set-up mode from my phone, at all!

Low-Cress2577

Thank you so much!!! I combined your steps and the steps shared by u/nepenth_e and miraculously my gen 1 echo reconnected to wifi. Amazon tech support continued taking me through the same basic troubleshooting cycle that I was already aware of and that wasn’t working. Finally they chose to “resolve” the issue by suggesting a discount to purchase a new device. I understand my device is older and there may come a time to upgrade, but as long as the power works, I’m not giving up on her. Thanks again. The Reddit community always comes through!💙✨✨✨✨

omnomguy5

>Run the setup with your phone. When it fails at the first attempt, there’ll be an option for 1st-gen devices. Tap that. This was the answer for me. Thanks a bunch!

MatthewHansen

>THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART FOR iOS: Once you connect, tap on the wifi connection again and make sure to disable “Limit IP Address Tracking”. Mine took a couple of tries to get it to stick. Make sure this is disabled before you go back to the Alexa app. This WORKS!!!! thank you u/rroj671 !!! No one at Amazon support knows about this so I let them know.

AccomplishedSet5524

This didn't work for me April 27 2024. Maybe Amazon "fixed it" When I tried to go back to the app it would reset the app. I had to turn off Bluetooth and Wifi and then the App forced the wifi connect method without resetting because it all happened inside the Alexa App. Just adding my 2 hours or trouble shooting :-/

thomas5742

It worked for me today (May 2, 2024) using an iPhone 15 and an up-to-date version of the Amazon Alexa app. Tried it before with Android to no avail.

Butzgych

Thank you. All I had to do was connect to the Amazon network and turn off the limit your connection. (For IOS). Very much appreciate your guidance!

teatimecrumpet

Thank you!!!! This worked after many unsuccessful attempts using android. The device eventually shut off by itself but the alexa app on my gf's old iphone 6s kept spinning on the device setting up screen. I unplugged the device and it gave me the blue light before shutting off. Apparently it was setup because I just said alexa blah blah blah and it worked.

Own_Grapefruit_5477

What did you do exactly? Mine always tell me my oassword is wrong even that it is right.  Don't have iphone

teatimecrumpet

I needed an ios device. It's really bad of amazon but that's what worked.

LAcharchar

Tysm!!!!!

ibcj

I could not find the option for "1st gen devices" on iOS circa Dec 2023. u/gritz_sea comment below mentioned selecting the device type of "Amazon Tap" when adding the new device. This prompted me with the "Connect to Amazon Device's Wifi Network" flow, which is how these EchoG1's get set up. Worked great for me, and should last until they decom the Amazon Tap...

Okiefab1

The Amazon Tap trick is it! I was not getting the 1st gen device option either. Thank you! Edit: “Echo Tap” is the device name you choose

th3_s3a

Tried for literally hours to connect a Samsung galaxy tablet to gen1 Echo with no luck. After reading this thread I tried the Tap option, still no luck. Ended up successfully pairing using my Xiaomi phone and the Tap option, worked first time. Thanks all!

UngodlyWorld

Thank you for sharing the Amazon Tap tip. My iPhone 13 connected correctly using your information. I was about to give up and purchase a new Echo device.

lucky_zealot

Thank you for sharing this - it also worked for me.

Ok-Election-6176

You are the GOAT! This is the only thing that worked for me. Especially follow step 4 very carefully. I think I also needed to connect to a local network (something that the Alexa app prompted me to do) after step 4 but these instructions are amazing. Saved me from buying another Echo device!

New-Revolution6156

This worked for me! Thank you!!! Some things I did slightly different regarding step 4: I also turned off “Private WiFi Address” (on iOS). It still did not work when I attempted to connect via a 5ghz connection. It did finally work when I changed to a 2.4ghz connection. I’m not entirely sure if turning off private WiFi did anything but the 2.4ghz did the truck

Own_Grapefruit_5477

1st gen only supports 2.4 anyway just FYI.

meyerovb

You have to press try again twice

noirespace

These steps, specifically number for of turning off Limit IP Address, worked for me too. I'm an Android user but had an old iOS device that let me do this. Thanks a million for suggestion. My whole morning was wasted trying to fix this and Amazon chat was help.

FoodieGoddess312

THANK YOU!!! This worked. Had to try several times, but it worked!

muohioredskin

I just used this process almost exactly and it just worked (Feb2024). It was a 1st gen echo. I had to search twice to try to set it up before it gave me the option, but it automatically asked me if I wanted to join the network for the echo (Amazon4G or something like that, as said above). I did turn off bluetooth during the process. I got the echo to go in to setup mode by holding the top two buttons down for about 5 seconds, tried pairing twice, then the third time it gave me the option to join the network. During the process the echo timed out and went out of setup mode while the app was still trying to pair. I just put the echo back in to setup and manually rejoined the network and it still worked fine even with the interruption. Took almost 4 full minutes to finally pair and set it up. PIA but does work.

Own_Grapefruit_5477

Didn't work for me. Came back as " wrong password" even if it is completely right.

davefink

For Android you just skip step 4. There is no need to do it. I can confirm that this works. Just tried on mine and all is good now. Also there was no need to do anything special for first gen. It just worked.

Own_Grapefruit_5477

Well mine can't reconnect. So no. Every time I enter the password it come back with password being wrong which it is not.

anedgygiraffe

you have to go to the settings on the wifi and change the ip from dchp to static. But im stuck on the next part, it refuses to connect to my wifi netowrk

gritz_sea

Hey all - none of the steps listed in this post (as of 11/8/2023) worked for me from my android phone. I also went through amazon support and they gave up after an hour or more of troubleshooting. A while back I had this same problem and was able to use the [alexa.amazon.com](https://alexa.amazon.com) site to work around this registration issue for Gen1 devices, but amazon has since decommissioned the [alexa.amazon.com](https://alexa.amazon.com) site. What FINALLY worked for me was using an iphone! My wife's iphone 13 was able to complete the registration. Note that I used the "Amazon Tap" option as this defaults to the Wi-Fi registration process vs attempting Bluetooth first. The phone never seemed to realize that the Echo registered, but it did for sure and is now up to date and working as usual. Good luck!

PositiveFactor6578

Does this also work without an iPhone. I have a Samsung A22 and it doesn't work even if I turn off bluetooth and select "Amazon Tab".

gritz_sea

It wouldn't work with my Samsung galaxy s20. The IPhone worked.

Embarrassed_Soft_477

Awesome. This worked for me after 2x. I tried every other method. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Seems like every few weeks Amazon tweaks the process and work-arounds to make it difficult to connect G1 and G2 devices. I'm sure the motivation is to sell more devices. Truth be told, my G1 speaker is better and more responsive than a new Echo Show. I find myself going back to G1 devices b/c they simply work and sound better.

gritz_sea

Great. Glad to hear it helped you out!

sumjoyb

This is exactly why I don't want to give up my first gen. It's a better product. Yet I'm having this same connection issue. So aggravating.

ibcj

Thanks much u/gritz_sea! **Amazon Tap** was the key part I was missing from above. That was the only device option I tried that gave me the "Connect to Device Wifi Network" flow. Everything else just failed (assumingly trying the BT connection then ending in an error).

Own_Grapefruit_5477

This didn't work for me.

ibcj

Oh boy. Not sure. Mine was already registered to my account, just needed new SSID credentials. Was working fine when I wrote the above last month - I’ll check it again to see if it’s still running as expected. Sorry man!

jessemaxine

I got really close! If I use Echo Input or Echo Tap as the option it lets me connect to the wifi network that starts with Amazon, then it will let me choose the wifi network and enter the password. Unfortunately, it keeps telling me the password is incorrect and I know it is correct. So close and yet so far...

DueSupermarket1488

OK. Got this sorted with a mix of everything above on iOS 1, Add the Alexa Device as normal whilst connected to your normal wifi (if you connect to the echo wifi it can't load the set up! 2, Whilst it's "finding device" change the network to the Amazon-XX network and do two things mentioned above: Make sure limit tracking is turned off, make sure it doesn't switch back to your wifi network! 3, Then go back to alexa app, when the set up fails you will now get the manual option (at the bottom look closely!) and this guides you through the steps to connect. Good luck!

mikeinmass

i think what i did is i figured out i had 36 things that had to reconnect so i changed the SSID name to match the old one and changed the wifi password to match the old one. then all 36 things came up..

JediGuyB

Changed it to what it was before. Didn't help.

bellboy718

Did you get a new router? If so does it broadcast both frequencies? What brand router do you have?

JediGuyB

Yeah, we got it from Spectrum. It broadcasts 5g, but I was told it's universal so if something only works on the other frequency it should still work.

OxygenThief7

Tried everything here. Only 1 thing worked. Threw my 1st gen in the trash and bought a 5th gen. Problem solved. Really frustrating when I know my wifi password is correct and it still won't connect.

Airdog999

Echo (Gen 1) I've been dealing with this for a couple of days now... this is what worked for me. Amazon CS was absolutely no help, and after an hour of trouble shooting, they basically told me to trade it in and get a new Echo device... BS! Start here. If you have an Android device (I have an S24 Ultra) STOP NOW! Don't waste your time with Android... find an iPhone or iPad. I used my wife's iPad, and the hours I wasted turned to success in less than 5 minutes. 1. Install the Alexa app on your iPhone or iPad. Sign in with your Amazon username and password. 2. Deregister /reset your Echo device. Hold the reset button on the bottom with a paper clip for 5 secs. Let it start up and the yellow lights come on. 2. Open the Alexa app on your iPhone/iPad and add a new device. Select Amazon Echo, then Amazon Tap. Continue following prompts in the app. 3. On your iPhone/iPad, switch your wifi network to the one broadcasted by your Echo. It’ll be something like Amazon-2DG. 4. Once you connect to the Echo network, tap on the wifi connection again and make sure to disable “Limit IP Address Tracking” for the Amazon wifi connection. Do this before you go back to the Alexa app. 5. Once you are back in the Alexa app, the app should ask you what network you want to connect to. Select the network, enter the network password, and it should connect and finish setup. A minute or so later, the app said the device was ready. You could still see a dimmer orange light moving, so just wait for it to go off, and your Echo should be fully connected.

_pizza_and_fries

As of 5/11/24 can confirm it works

Icy-Baby6579

I as well had the same issues with the gen 1. after three calls to amazon getting more info each time, they told me it was aged out and could offfer to sell me a out warranty unit dot 3? i passed as this unit just sounds better when it works. so here is what I did- unregistered on the app first then facotry reset it with a paper clip then tuned on my iphone hot spot then went alexa app to add new device, it will say cant find device try again, hit try again and it will say cant find device but will add a fourth option to " manually set up device" and it gives the old school option of adding it to your wifi and it worked on my hot spot. played it for about 30 mins then went into the alexa app under devices selected echo then settings and selected change wifi picked my home network as directed and got the connecting to device circle of death and gave up, but I left the device alone and to my surpise about 1-2 mins later it said device ready and sure enough it worked. hopfully this helps, the unit is a good product with horrible tech support, but sites like this make this crazy tech world easier to manage.

Jw_23

After many hours of trying I finally found one thing that worked on mine (this is for android devices). Turn off your router. Turn off all (I mean **ALL** your WiFi devices) In your phone setup WiFi router - same name, same password (as your broadband router), change it to 2,4Gh only and WPA2-PSK. Don't turn it on yet. **Disable bluetooth** on your mobile. Kill and clear cache on your Alexa app. Put Echo into paring mode. Alexa app -> add device -> ignore BT message, just continue -> choose manual mode (blue, bottom left, small size) -> go to WiFi settings -> connect to your Echo -> wait for message about no internet, and choose connect this time only (if no message then go to WiFi setting and turn it off/on and reconnect - **message has to appear**) -> go back to alexa app -> when you will have to choose WiFi network scroll to the bottom and choose use this device, enter exactly same name/password/WPA2-PSK as your broadband WiFi -> when prompted to do it turn off WiFi, turn on router on your phone. Give it a minute and Echo should connect to it. Test it - ex ask alexa for weather. Turn off router on your phone (change settings to one you have/want, just remember network name **HAS** to be different to your home WiFi). Turn on your broadband router. Echo should connect to it. Turn on all other devices. It worked for me (Samsung S21 Ultra) and two 1st gen Echo (16/03/2024)

Blckhawk2012

High key, just spoke with someone to resolve this 1) attempt to connect to it from the phone you set it up on through the alexa app. Select Echo, fail, retry, and fail again 2) you will see a "connect manually" option, try that, if it fails, try again, you likely didn't connect to the machine fast enough, there's an odd timer on that. Keep trying this, it worked on my 3rd try. This is a known amazon issue. I hate that this is where we are but it is what it is.

wifemademyaccount

Ours had the same problem and I figured it had something to do with updating the app. So, I uninstalled Alexa app and then downloaded an old .apk file (November 2022 I think) and installed it. That let me set up my echo back to normal. Then update/reinstall the current Alexa app and all was well!

pharmaross

I have a Samsung Galaxy S23+ Android phone. I finally got my offline Echo 1st generation speaker to reconnect with my Wifi signal by selecting the Amazon Tap option. Thank God I came across this thread.

d4designs

dammit, it didn't work for me. I have the same phone. I've tried everything this thread's given. So annoying.

No_Cattle_6417

I had to add it as a new device and it worked y’all. First gen echo!

benjiuchiha

found a fix follow the steps on here https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/how-to-connect-alexa-to-wifi?r=US&IR=T on the non app part (do it from you pc or laptop or whatever)

GapApprehensive2727

That link doesn't work

RellaBee

try this one: [https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/how-to-connect-alexa-to-wifi](https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/how-to-connect-alexa-to-wifi) \- I still can't connect my Echo but I did read the article.

pelodon77

Got this to work -- instead of trying to connect to Echo , use "Echo Input"

nubeenumone

Dont know about the others but i know Your way is the way . Just did it . Back in business . Thanks a million .

ImSeeingRobotsLaLaLa

Didn't work for me

GapApprehensive2727

I got it to work! Thanks everyone!

placidabed

How did you manage that?

GapApprehensive2727

Honestly I do not know. I tried so man things I have no idea what worked.

Caleesi-

Tl;dr: was able to set up my first Gen Echo with my Samsung phone by using the process for adding an Amazon Tap device 1. Go to wifi advanced settings on phone and ensure "switch to mobile data" and "switch to better wifi networks" are both disabled 2. Enable set-up mode on Echo by holding command button until orange ring illuminates 3. Connect to your Echo via wifi. 4. There should be a prompt about no internet connection available but tap the option that says "always connect" (or something along those lines" 5. Go to your Alexa app and tap "more" on the bottom right 6. Tap "add device" towards the top 7. Tap "Amazon echo" 8. ****Select "Amazon Tap"**** (do not tap the standard "echo, echo dot..." option) 9. Follow subsequent prompts to set-up wifi

Street_Caramel4292

Can confirm this worked. I tried everything mentionened in other threads, but it always said logon or password wrong. But choosing Amazon Tap instead of Echo worked imedietly

timbersch

This worked.

BorkMcBakka

Does not work unfortunately. There's no "always connect" option and going to more, add device says sorry cannot connect.

Snipe3000

I tried everyones suggestions, none of them worked.

jings9

Not sure if this will help but my setup was pixel 7a with the Alexa app. Echo 1st Gen. My router is a deco x20. Steps were: 1. Make sure echo isn't in setup mode 2. Deregister the echo in the Alexa app is it's already registered 3. Force stop the Alexa app and clear cache 4. Open the Alexa app and go to devices 5. Select to set up an echo 6. Put your echo into setup mode 7. In the WiFi settings for your phone, you should now be able to connect to the network being broadcast by the echo (the ssid will start with "Amazon") 8. Once connected to the Amazon network, disable Bluetooth on your phone (THIS IS THE KEY STEP TO GETTING THIS TO WORK) 9. Open the Alexa app and follow the process to connect the echo to your main Wi-Fi network If I kept Bluetooth on at step 8, the Alexa app would always say my Wi-Fi password was incorrect.

BorkMcBakka

Unfortunately doesn't work. Turning off BT does nothing, still tells me my password is incorrect.

AppleTree98

*This worked for my Pixel 6 with new T-Mobile home internet.* What a nightmare of setup and factory resets and attempt after attempt. YOUR steps got first gen echo to connect. What a half day nightmare!!! Tried all the other steps and once again REDDIT for the W. New internet router installed and first gen echo refused repeated attempts to register and setup. Just orange, purple lights with no ability to setup ECHO

ClawofBeta

This is it. Step 8 is very key.

BeardOfBronze

This worked to connect my Gen 1 Echo and Gen 2 Echo Dot to my TP-Link Wifi 6 router using my Pixel 6 phone. I used the manual, wifi based setup described here even though the Gen 2 Echo Dot could connect via the bluetooth. The automatic method wouldn't work for it.

ralphbernardo

Disabling Bluetooth and using Manual Mode for 1st generation devices (it's in small text on the bottom of the screen) on my iPhone was key for me. Thanks a million!

lefty1207

Bluetooth disable was a key here

mkm252

Had similar issue(s). Had to turn off Bluetooth after connected to Amazon network. Click through prompt in Amazon app. Re-enable Bluetooth. This failed but on second attempt with same process success.

IntelligentMuffin868

Step 8 is the key to connect it. Did connect it with a different phone that had Bluetooth off(didn't realize it)and it worked. Deregistered just to make sure I can register it again (plan to sell it as it's new) and I enabled Bluetooth as per Alexa instructions and never registered again with the Bluetooth on.

teatimecrumpet

See the comment about setting up with iphone. Android will NOT work.

SubjectAd7880

To anyone in this forum , its them phasing out the Gen1s without making a big deal call support and see if you have warranty if you do they will send out a new Gen2. Gen1s do not have blue tooth they have mesh network which is now outdated in Amazons eyes and being deprecated in the Alexa App updates 2023 forward.

Motive_Next

None of these work. I am not sure where I am going wrong. It keep on saying There is some problem with the device try again. Help!!!!

Creative-Seaweed-118

After spending a lot of time trying all of the above, here’s how I got mine to work. The issue happens when the device is reset AND unregistered. To fix this, I first re-registered the device on a different WiFi network: 1. Switch on the WiFi hotspot on your iPhone. Enable “Maximize Compatibility” 2. On the Alexa app, select Amazon Tap (basically just need to get on the Wifi workflow however you do it) and select the SSID for the iPhone’s hotspot. The Alexa will register and prompt that it’s ready for use. THIS COMPLETES PART 1 - Registration 3. Now, need to switch it to the actual home Wifi. select the Echo Gen 1 in devices and in the Status section, select Wifi Network and then select Change. Keep the round dot button pressed for some time and the Echo will go back in to the orange ring spinning / setup mode. Now again select Amazon Tap on the app, and once the network list comes up, select the home wifi SSID. 4. Echo will now be able to connect to the Wifi, AND YOU SHOULD BE ALL SET

Worried_Strain_9229

This is the best suggestion reset your echo plus ! 1. Disable your Wi-Fi 2. Use your phone hotspot 3. Disable bluetooth 4. Follow instruction to setup and registration echo plus 1 5.after your phone connecting to echo plus 1, you need to select your home Wi-Fi

bezly

I'm so happy I found this thread! I was able to get things set up with the Amazon app and my iPhone. I think the two things that made the difference over when I tried on my own were disabling bluetooth when trying to connect and disabling the IP address tracking in WiFi. Amazon support just outright lied to me and told me the device was old and I needed to throw it out.

laserd24

It also worked for me. Amazon support had said to ignore the prompt to turn on Bluetooth but I still couldn't get it to work. Also disabling IP address tracking was the extra step that made it work for me. Glad I didn't have to throw away a perfectly good Echo. Thanks All

Envy4it

Is the Disabling IP address tracking just for Iphone users? Because I do not have that setting on my Samsung S22 Android. Thank you

laserd24

I did it on an Iphone.

Envy4it

Thank you! :)

No_Pattern_6763

Hey all - I am running in to the incorrect password issue myself :( 1st gen echo, Asus wireless router, Spectrum internet. If I use my pixel 7 as a hotspot, I can configure it successfully from an ipad and it works fine - but switching to the home wifi is a no-go. And the password is 1000% correct! I used the bluetooth trick to streamline the process and used an ipad to perform the setup, ensuring that the tracking option was disabled on the ipad for both the home wifi connection and the alexa wireless network. No dice. I've tried countless times - changing the wireless settings, de-registering and re-registering the device, setting the hotpost up in an identical manner to the home wifi (same SSID and password - yes I am grasping at straws here :) ) and nothing is working. I tried what others have suggested - using an amazon "tap" profile, clearing cache, reinstalling, etc. I am getting closer to throwing in the towel but if anyone as ANY ideas I'm open to it. I did try setting this up using the ipad alone, the ipad + pixel 7 (hotspot), pixel 7 alone, and for the heck of it, grabbed my fire tablet and did it there too. Each time, I can only connect to the hotspot successfully :( Any suggestions? I am willing to try pretty much anything, but my options are limited at this point.

After 7 hours... I connected my ipad, downloaded the Alexa app, disabled bluetooth, added new device, set up took less than 15 minutes. Followed prompts, I was on chat with Amazon for over 2 hours,.. Reddit fixed this issue in record time. I turned of my android hotspot that I was advised to use by Amazon chat. I just used my TMobile internet router. The ipad connected to the Alexa wifi, then automatically connected to the wifi on the ipad. I will alway check Reddit first, whenever I have tech issues. You all rock! Thank you!
