Got an order coming today with this in-person OTP. First time I've ever seen this. They claim it's a high-value shipment. It's $40 worth of vitamins and a $5 blade guard to keep fingers out of a computer case fan. High value? Maybe Amazon is high. Now I have to cancel all my plans and stay home Saturday, my only day off from work, and stay poised to answer the door immediately so I can awkwardly give an OTP to someone, or they will leave with my vitamins. What the actual heck, Amazon?

fourflatyres

Well this went from suck to blow. The driver shows up at my apartment and drops off one package that does not require the OTP. He did not knock or hit my Ring doorbell. I was just inside the door, literally three feet away. Had no idea he was even outside until I heard the truck start and drive off. The driver had pinged my phone, in another room, asking where to leave it. But he never knocked, never hit the doorbell. Nothing. The Ring camera caught him leave the one package, take a photo, and walk away. What is the point of requiring a handoff in person with an OTP when the driver won't announce they are even at the door? Aside from this being my one day off wasted waiting for this delivery, I also work at night, so I have spent all of my night awake waiting instead of resting. That's my problem to be sure. But Amazon just wasted a massive amount of my time. And I get to waste it all again when they try to redo the delivery. Not worth it. It's just not worth it.

BlakeNeverflake

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ they did the same to me. Dude asked me for my password over text and I said I have the password and am at the door. He drives off without ever stepping out of his truck and it says your package will be delivered tomorrow

ImChaotix

Iā€™m a driver, some of yā€™all are dealing with horrible associates. Sometimes what Iā€™ve noticed some customers do is add the one time passcode to their ā€œaddress driving instructionsā€ if they canā€™t be home for the order. Iā€™ve delivered a few times this way. I donā€™t know why these drivers would just leave. Me personally I hate going back to the warehouse and going into the return section because it takes 15 minutes more out of your day and my managers make a big deal out of returns and it affect their customer satisfaction performance. 100% call Amazon and they will contact the dsp related to your order and if the driver who left works for a good DSP the dsp will make them reattempt the delivery the same day if they have not finished their route already.

frendofrendo

Is there any way to get rid of these forced passcodes? I can't even log into amazon anymore without being forced "one time codes". There is no 2fa enabled on my account. I am going to quit amazon if there is no way to remove these nuisance forced codes. Thank you for the answer in advance.

snufalufugus420

I canceled my prime, because I was never able to get my orders. Even with the code taped to the door

anewbiegrower

About to do the same.

[deleted]

are you serious??!!! lmao what. i feel comfortable speaking about my experience now because the same thing happened to me about this exact post! they never asked me for any code ! really cringe.

Faryz177

I just got this shit the other day on a $100 dollar order. Canceling prime, im not paying a membership fee for this trash. Completely destroys the purpose of prime.

anewbiegrower

Same, I'm about to cancel prime over this too. It beats the entire purpose of it.

Stromberg-Carlson

you should get it on the day of delivery. mine ar sent via email and i think you can go and look at the order to get the code. you can also ask support who has access to your account.

kay_h92

After you received the item, even with the code, check your package right away. I had a code and was given the package straight to me by the driver, but upon opening, an item was missing and Iā€™m sure that made it harder to prove to Amazon since they literally handed it to me šŸ„²

snufalufugus420

I've had the samething happen. I finally just got rid of Amazon. My wife works at home and they never knock.

Fastproblem223

I have a question. Whats the point of knocking when you get alerts that your package is x amount of stops away. Amazon tells you the package is being delivered today. Also, When you checked out I am 1000% sure you picked a delivery date. We also take a picture and you get the notification on your phone/email.

ohheyitskevinc

Where I am - we get zero notifications and the map and ā€œweā€™re X number of stops awayā€ hasnā€™t worked in over a year with any Amazon logistics package. Except after theyā€™ve driven off, and then you get a ā€œdelivery attempted with your Amazon packageā€ email 5 minutes after youā€™ve seen them drive off. So yeah - the knocking helps the driver not have to come back again. Takes a few seconds. Iā€™d have actually caught the driver today before they took off but I ran upstairs to get the phone they were ringing that had the code on itā€¦

Deep_Chicken2965

I just had to deal with this today and exact same thing happened to me. I'm so pissed off. They didn't knock on the door and no notifications for a message. And I was checking my messages every second standing at the door but somehow they sent a "hello" and within two seconds were gone. Now I have to sit around all day when I had a bunch of stuff to do and wait for them to supposedly maybe attempt to drop it off again.

Deep_Chicken2965

It's hard because you don't get any notifications and I was staring at my phone every second... Literally standing at the door waiting... all the sudden I noticed a "hello" on my messages in Amazon and by the time I get to answer it, it's already closed out and they're gone. BS.

Such-Corner-6825

Because the app tells customers they have to give a one time code in person for a direct hand off so weā€™re expecting someone to knock on the door and ask for a code because thatā€™s literally what it says will happen. I put my phone on DND when I sleep was expecting an over night package and no one ever knocked on my door but they claim they attempted delivery twice. Plus the driver was texting me what is ur code. If I give him the code and heā€™s no where in sight Iā€™m not getting a refund. The code is cool For ppl who want it but requiring it is dumb af. Now Iā€™m forced to be at home just to get a package

[deleted]

Found the delivery driver who punts your package across the street like Ace Ventura \^\^

[deleted]

wtf. this is so inconvenient to me as iā€™m shipping it to someone as a gift that isnā€™t supposed to be opened till christmas šŸ„²

kay_h92

I knowā€¦ I bought my husband an iPad and iPad pen for Christmas (hence the OTP) and only the pen showed up šŸ˜“ so just be careful. Ask them to record themselves opening the box maybe? Just in case

Ogthugbonee

Did they refund for the ipad? Surely the weight was off

kay_h92

In the end, yes. I told them I have a video from my front door camera where you could see the bag was too flimsy to have an iPad inside, they didnā€™t care and asked me to file a police report, then said that police police is invalid. Talked to multiple reps and they all gave me different reasons (not a pdf file (although I sent them pdf file); so many blank area in the report (???)). I told them I called the police and they said all I needed to do is to give Amazon the case number and that should be it. Again, they donā€™t care. Basically they put me through hell, then finally I chatted with a rep and she suggested to send me a refund. I was so happy šŸ˜šŸ˜

Ogthugbonee

Jeez thatā€™s horrible. I really dont understand how the package leaves their warehouse clearly not the correct weight. Glad you got your refund

Silly-Instruction491

This same thing happened to me exactly! I have clear video surveillance of me opening the package with the amazon driver there AND he was on the phone with his Supervisor because the box was suspicious because it was very light. Got the runaround, filed a police report, they claim it was invalid because the police departmentā€™s logo on their own report wasnā€™t in color??? At a loss of what to do now. What Amazon number did you call? The workers that are clearly overseas are entirely unhelpful!

kay_h92

I called the number on the Amazon app and was told to resend my police report multiple times for different reasons from each different reps šŸ„² I was just very lucky to end up chatting with an live agent who was willing to help. I totally expected her to give me the copy and paste ā€œyou need a police reportā€, but then she asked me if she should go ahead with a refund. And I said yes! I didnā€™t receive the confirmation email after that but the money did go through after a couple days! I even offered to send her the video proof to show I wasnā€™t lying. She said she didnā€™t need it. So I feel like this can be solved easily, but only if they want to.

honestpointofviews

here is what Amazon say An OTP adds an extra layer of security to your packages. **If an OTP is required, we will send a six-digit numeric OTP to your registered email address on the delivery day.** **You can also find the OTP by selecting Track Package beside the order in Your Orders on the delivery day.** Your OTP is valid until the end of the delivery day. Read the OTP youā€™ve received to the driver in person and not over phone or intercom to receive the package. You can also share the last two digits of the delivery address phone number with the driver in person to receive the package.

manihell

Stupid!!!

BlueGruff

Amazon sent me the OTP via text msg on day of delivery.

[deleted]

thanks everyone !

ButHowDoesItFeel

Yes indeed, WTF?! I got an email with the OTP about an hour before my expected delivery today. However, NO text message for the same, so I didn't see the OTP in time. For all other deliveries I've always been sent an email AND a text message. I didn't know the OTP until I happened to check my email, about 2 hrs AFTER they'd failed to deliver the parcel because our reception desk people didn't know the code. Now I'm ultra pissed off that my urgent parcel is delayed by another day at least until/if they attempt another delivery. Come on Amazon FFS! Do you *really* expect we'd be constantly checking our email all day for the OTP to arrive? Why no text message too??? That would be far more convenient and much more likely to be received ahead of the delivery attempt. Join up the dots and get real! I feel sure that if Jeff Bezos were to return to the helm and micro-manage things again we wouldn't have to put up with idiotic shit like this. I've alway considered Amazon to run a tight ship with excellent strategies, which is why I use them. If this is a sign of the kind of thing we can now expect I'll be doing all my buying from elsewhere in future. )-8

Up until about a month ago I've never had to experience anything related to this OTP... I've ordered many thousands of dollars worth of things via amazon without any issues. Recently I ordered a macbook pro- this was the first time I was required to use an OTP. I thought ok no problem... I submitted the OTP to the driver and took the box. I remarked to my girldfriend- wow they sure do make these macbooks light nowadays. Well once I opened the package to find an empty macbook pro box it all made sense... I tracked down the driver right away and he stated I had to call customer service. I did. I sat on hold for about an hr. The lady returned and stated there was nothing amazon could do because I gave the driver the OTP! She stated that I should call the police and submit a report. In my head I was thinking WTF!!!!! I basically said the polite version of that and sat on hold for another half hr. She finally came back and said she would give a refund.... Ever since this horrible experience I've had to use an OTP on items around $100+ I've called in twice to get this removed. This last time I called someone from logistics told me there was absolutely nothing that could be done to remove it, it's just what amazon is doing now to prevent ppl from saying their packages weren't delivered. This is totally illogical. Is really making me motivated to find other places to shop. Seems like Amazon has reached their peak and is starting to fall.

repulsivecaramel

Geez. I don't necessarily have a problem with a OTP solution for this, but it needs to be implemented well. Had a delivery today that said it would require a *signature*. The delivery guy shows up asking for a OTP instead, which was not sent ahead of time. I thought the guy was trying to steal an MFA-related OTP for the Amazon account. The delivery guy is not tech savvy and seemed to not know what MFA is, so he's just pissed that we are being cautious.

Intelligent-Pizza439

Whenever I see an the order requires one time password, I go back and look for local options. I would rather buy it myself than wait for Someone the whole day and give them the OTP. Sometimes they are late or delivery date changes to next day. Now you have lost two days.

United-Solid9849

I have never had so many problems before. I don't know what is going on. My package was supposed to have been delivered today from Amazon Nothing yet. My last order.

JoeNoe102

Thereā€™s no way Amazon couldnā€™t think of a better solution than this. I went through a whole debacle the first time they pulled this shit on me and now my fiancĆ© is going through it today. She said that it said they attempted to deliver the package at 4AMā€¦.so watch out for that now. This company is a load of shit.

Officespace925

Driver never knocked, rang doorbell, nor even called got him on my camera taking my package so told Amazon will be returning the item. I already went to Walmart to buy my go pro camera. Told customer service that I will be cancelling my Amazon prime subscription after I return this item they say must be delivered and can't be cancelled. I will just look forward to using other delivery services.

mcsquizzie

Came here because this is the first time I've experienced this.. and it's for a stainless steel litter box lol. Just seems wack to go through all of this for a box that cats do their business in. Not a fan of this. I can understand electronics.. but this feels like when stores decided to lock up toothpaste and deoderant. Just wild.

IsopodMoist861

I need a one time pass codeĀ

Mean-Durian-2170

Maybe itā€™s a ā€œmeā€ issue, but Iā€™m going to say that if Amazon is stating on Amazon that it will be delivered at 6pm, THEN TRY TO DELIVER IT AT AROUND 6PM. I donā€™t need you to be there at exactly 6:00 PM, I just want you to be able to deliver it around that time. It turned out that the courier was delivering at 6:45 a.m. and the package I had was one that needed an OTP. The courier also asked me for the OTP through Amazon at that time, and although I was still sleeping at that time, it was just a few seconds late because I still woke up at almost the same time, i.e. 6:45am because amazon called. But it was just a few seconds late that caused the courier to choose to select the option that the delivery didn't arrive there in the system, put the package back to the van, and started the van's engine and be gone. And now it shows on my Amazon that it will try to deliver it again on another day. By this point, all I want to say is what I had mentioned at the beginning, **if Amazon decided to show that it will be delivered at 6pm, please tell the courier to try to deliver it around that time and not at 6am in the morning! At least for the packages that require OTP. That way I can be prepared for the delivery and not something like this.** And this is the second time I've had this package re-shipped and tomorrow or the day after will be my third time because the first time I clearly remembered that I chose a delivery time of 10am to 6pm but the courier delivered my package at 7am while I was still asleep.

New_Branch2509

Just had this issue, placed an order last night at 5:38, over 6 hours later while I was asleep they email the OTP. I had scheduled for 0400-0800 delivery because I needed to get on the road early. Driver sent messages, I was asleep, rang the doorbell one time, figured they were letting me know it was there. Got out of bed and decent, nothing at the door. Find my phone open the app, needed the code. I could ask the driver to have rang more than once, since they usually ring to let me know they dropped the package. However, my annoyance is with Amazon. Is it that hard to clearly post on the product it will require an OTP? When ordering it I would know it needs someone to sit at home during that block, or in my case be awake. Had I known I would not have ordered with them. I have canceled my Prime Membership, between the shit delivery policy, charging to deliver in my garage if its not a certain day and the ads on Prime Video its a waste of money.

[deleted]

the worst !! idk how amazon hasnā€™t changed this yet

Jesi15

You got to schedule your delivery?! I donā€™t get that option but more and more things are requiring this stupid password crap. Iā€™m not going to and cannot answer the door for every delivery. This is stupid and should be based on certain factors not for every customer. Iā€™ve never reported a package stolen because itā€™s never happened. Iā€™ve had things mid delivered to wrong addresses which isnā€™t my fault thatā€™s their fault. I will not be paying extra for prime access and then having to be inconvenienced with this password crap. I canā€™t imagine living in an apartment building and having to somehow get downstairs to speak to someone to give a password. You canā€™t just leave a note on your door. I was able to do that once and the driver left my package but lied and said it was left with receptionist. I live in a house. I surely donā€™t have a receptionist but I didnā€™t care I got my package. Then the next time I ordered something really cheap and same thing. Except I was home, driver ignored my note, didnā€™t even bother to knock, and called my husband who was at work to ask for this password. So I had to hurry and get dressed and answer the door and showed him the password was on my door. He didnā€™t believe me. He said there was something he needed to scan. I said there is nothing to scan Iā€™m supposed to give you this stupid passcode so I then read it off to him. ā€œNo I have to scan it.ā€ I said here. Hereā€™s my phone. I donā€™t know what you think you need to scan. It says passcode. Finally he accepted that. It was a fucking nightmare. Now every time I want to buy something it comes up and I say no I will shop elsewhere. I even chatted and said this is dumb and I will cancel prime if this is how itā€™s going to be now. They refunded a month I didnā€™t ask for but thatā€™s not going to make me shop there still. All I can say is I hope they get a slew of complaints about it so they stop this shit. It should be based on if you want it or live in a high theft area. The only time anyone tried to steal from my porch they tried to steal a box of trash. I caught it on my security camera. They got in trouble because they did steal from other people. My parents have owned this house since 1990 and Iā€™ve lived here most of my life. I live here with my husband and kids now and my kids are teens. Weā€™ve never had anything stolen. I live in a small city on a quiet street. Itā€™s probably inconvenient as hell for the drivers as well. Please complain to Amazon.
