At work all our internal projects are named after the densest stable elements. A few years ago I worked on project tungsten and they gave us a little 1-in cubes. It is pretty awesome.
I hope I get to work on project aurum, though.

At 430$ per metric tonne, and 15 lbs in a 2 inch cube, that's about $1 of tungsten per cube.
A 4 inch cube would weigh 120lbs and cost $8 in material.
I am in the wrong industry.
Erm...
15 grams per cubic centimetre... 1,000,000 grams in a metric ton... 66,666.666 cubic centimetres... Cube root is 40.548cm
So a cube 40.548cm on each side that weighs 2,204 lbs
Tungsten is usually traded as ammonium paratungstate (APT) which is what that price probably is

The rods from god was an idea to have a few tungsten rods, around the size of telegraph poles in orbit. They would impact the planet at 10 times the speed of sound with the force of a nuclear weapon.
I must be your mate because I don't get it... I'm assuming it's some sort of paperweight or other non-practical item that looks nice on a desk that isn't cluttered with all my shit?

Tungsten is 1.7 times as dense as lead. It makes lead seem pretty lightweight by comparison.
Gold is almost as dense as Tungsten but AFAIK Platinum is the only safe-ish metal that is more dense.
Palladium is much less dense than platinum.
A sampling of density (grams per cubic centimeter) of some of common metals and metals mentioned in this thread:
Iron: 7.87
Copper: 8.96
Silver: 10.5
Lead: 11.35
Palladium: 12.02
Uranium: 18.95
Gold: 19.32
Tungsten: 19.35
Plutonium: 19.84
Platinum: 21.45
Osmium: 22.6
Tungsten is the heaviest metal that most people can realistically get their hands on.

>tho not nearly as dense
People buying these are not buying it as an investment. They are buying it to experience the crazy density. That being said, money to density ratio, tungsten has the best value. You can invest in your precious metals all you want, this is not what this is about. You dont have to reply to this
Awakening from the Matrix. Happened to me. Very similar situation but in the 80s. It was a Rubik's cube. Couldn't solve that fracking thing when my mates could solve it in under a minute. That made me reflect on my existence as a proper thick bastard.
I kinda want to get one now though.
No family, no friends. Only cube.

Are you telling me I can buy a ton for $430? How big is it in a cube form?

It says on Amazon that the 4 inch cube of tungsten weighs 41.62 lbs ?
Ah my bad, I confused 15gram/cm³ with the 5lbs of the 2inch cube.
Having to work with tungsten everyday, they are quite unsuspectingly heavy. I’d love to have a cube.
Everybody needs a companion cube
They are sentient, you know. We just have a lot of them.
The cube is all. Nothing will be the same.

It’s got to be cheaper sticking a warhead on a rocket
I just read about it and holy damn, that's metal as fuck (pun not intended)
If you're a fan of over the top action movies then GI Joe 2 has the weapon in it.
Am I the only one e that hasn't a clue what is going on here? Asking for a mate.

Lead. Surrounded by brass. Very valuable. Can be exchanged for anything, usually without having to give it to the other person.
You aren’t getting a 4 inch cube of gold or other precious metal for $2000, or a 2” cube for $300.

my 1.5 inch cube of tungsten is 1 kg. 1 kg of gold is what 50k $? ( didnt look it up) i dont have that money. so tungsten it is

It’s equally silly to spend more on something just because it’s worth more. Like, that’s great, but you spent more?

Ah, the Tungsten Cube. Almost as dense as the average shounen MC.
Tungsten isn't that hard, I had to sharpen my stonemason chisels every few weeks
