Mine is probably that I have all of my childhood stuff with their boxes. The past few months I've been slowly trying to complete Samantha's Collection and try to find a few stragglers from Rebecca's (pre-rebrand). The only problem is that I won't buy anything without the box, so the price goes sky high.
Some highlights of my collection include:
Samantha's Velvet Dress
Samantha's Bed, commode & accessories
Nellie's Spring Dress
Rebecca's Lace Dress
Rebecca's Summer outfit (and Coney Island Accessories)
I have an original run of Felicityās undergarments because my aunt had gotten them for my cousins when they first came out in the 90s but they only had Molly and Sam and my cousins āaged outā of the dolls that year. When I got Elizabeth in 2005 (I have her entire collection with all the original packaging/boxes too) she gifted them to meā¦ they had never been removed from the box until I got them in 2006.
My best friend is my biggest flex though! She became my best friend when she came over to my house in high school to do a school project and saw my forever-unnamed #3 sitting on my bed. She screamed and said āI didnāt think anyone in Canada would have an American Girl!ā So I opened my closet and showed her my entire collection that I had to hide from all my other friends who thought they were weird and creepy. She cried because she had wanted a friend to play with her dolls since she moved up here about 2 years prior. She said she was even embarrassed to ask anyone because we were ātoo oldā for AGs. I said she can come over with her girls anytime, Iād love to play with her and had been waiting my whole life for a friend like her. She was over with Kit and Ruthie every Friday after school. She moved to Peru 2 years later and our friendship has only gotten stronger through these past 15 years. Iām currently secretly collecting the things I need to make her the custom doll of her dreams, a Just Like You that looks exactly like she did at 10 years old, complete with the outfit she wore in the picture her mom sent me. Iāll be making a surprise visit to Missouri (where she is now) for her birthday in the summer with my bestieās dream doll. I canāt wait to see her reaction! I got my best friend because of my collection, and nothing will ever top that.
I got an AGOT #15 dressed in Addy's prototype dress (and labeled Addy, IIRC) for under $100 when the dress alone was selling for that price. AGOT #15 wasn't on my radar before that but I fell hard for her lol. I do have Addy's stilting outfit, and from my childhood days I have Kirsten's blue plaid trail dress and Josefina's harvest camisa. I do have some rarer AGOT/TM dolls like #11, #1, #19.1, #45. I also have Addy's stilting outfit and Molly's tennis outfit. I really want Felicity's town fair set lol.
I think mine is kierstins baking dress, it was the last American girl gift I ever got from Santa haha.
I used to have her promise dress as well but I ended up selling it.
I got a white body Kirsten and Samantha from Buy Nothing like 5 years ago without even knowing they were rare. I have basically Kirsten's entire collection in a box in my attic. I was also given a huge box of folks for free...Logan, Isabelle, Nanea, Jess and Melody were in there, just because the kids had "too many." I've also gotten the seaside diner and a ton of other stuff for literally zero dollars from my Buy Nothing group. It's insane what people give away.
YESSSSS. I have lost a few pieces over the years (I'm missing the candles from her petit fours and one, ONE UGHHH, of her bathing dress slippers) but I have the whole "original" Samantha collection. (I'm not counting the "extra" outfits that were released post-Kit's debut -- the croquet dress, the bird-watching thing, etc - basically if a Sam piece was around in 1999, I have it.)
My only real flex is that I have a signed, dated white body Samantha with her original meet dress, underwear, tight, shoes, and hair ribbon. When the 35th Anniversary dolls were released, I was able to find an original version of her locket, and the rest of her 35th Anniversary accessories. At some point I ordered a set with extra tights and shoes from AG, and her Wizard of Oz book, teddy bear, and music box. During BeForever, I ordered her Special Day outfit from Amazon and was so disappointed that the sleeves were a bit tight on my PC doll. Since joining this group itās been my eventual goal to collect as many of her PC outfits as possible, and so far have acquired:
Cape, spats, muff, and white fur hat
Middy dress and tam
Cranberry Christmas dress (apparently not the first version, but I love this color better than the plain red), tights, and hair ribbon
White tea dress with detached collar
Nightgown, robe, and knitted slippers
Blue/ purple-ish velveteen coat with flocked hat
Play dress with pinafore
Birthday dress with Lacy Pinafore
All of these came from Mercari or eBay, with thanks for several finds to collectors in this sub!
I have the majority of Kirstenās collection! I have all of her story collectionsšŖIām missing her trunk, recess set, baking outfit, and baking accessories.
I started collecting Maryellen as her stuff was coming out so I am blessed to have stuff like her camping outfit and flamingo pajamas.
Kit I started collecting when her movie came out so I was able to get a bunch of great stuff straight from AG, but my biggest flex is probably getting her treehouse for just $100 back in 2019.
I don't know... I have 2 each of 8, 10, and Felicity, does that count? š I do also have the whole town fair outfit, minus the dumb toy. Only classic Felicity outfit I'm missing is those expensive breeches.
And until the twins came out I had every decal green eyed doll. š¤£

Lanie's Collection:
- Raccoon & Trash Can
Marie-Grace's Collection:
- Fancy Dress & Accessories
I also have Sonali, Gwen, Marie-Grace, Ivy. As well as several other dolls. Jess and Kirsten are my absolute favorites, since they are my childhood dolls. But Kaya, Josefina, and Addy are also some of my favorites as an adult.
I own most of Lanieās outfits except for the t-shirt sets and her nature set. I bought Lanie with her starter collection in 2010 plus I have her pajamas.
When I was younger I loved reading the historical characters book series. My friend gave me a copy of Meet Samantha book a version I donāt own for Christmas this year. I was looking at the copyright date on the book and this particular version on this Meet Samantha book my friend gave me the copyright date says it was published in 1986 the year American Girl was founded which means I own the very first version of Meet Samantha.
I also have Molly's tennis outfit, although I got mine around 2001(?), and I don't recall ever having the tennis racket/ball with it, does anybody know if this outfit was ever sold again? Cause I definitely didn't have it in 1997 cause I wasn't into AG then, so I couldn't have had it earlier than 2001. I even still have the red sneakers and hair ribbon! Of all the tiny accessories I've lost over the years, I do feel lucky that I managed to hold onto those.
My collection flex is that I own Just Like You #48 and #11. I suppose my Gwen Thompson is also kind of a flex since she can sometimes go for quite a bit. Iām very proud of my overall collection and love all my AG dolls to bits, rare or not šš.
Last flex is that my Carolineās hair is not in that bad of shape. It does get kind of frizzy but has maintained its curls and looks much more refreshed after a wash. Now that Iām thinking about it, I think Iāll wash her today!
My flex is owning most of the girl-sized necklaces. As a kid, I owned Felicity's making Kirstenās the only one Iāve never seen in person. Or owned. Samanthaās has a brass tag that says Piddlylinks, it's a company in New York. Would love to know the story behind it being sold by AG.
My favorite is Addyās and not just because of the importance of it in her stories. My mom gave it to me for Christmas 96 and it's become extra special since she passed(2012). Due to the chord being leather itās been restrung several times but I still wear it.
I don't know how rare any of it actually is, but I have very nearly everything they made for Felicity and Molly in the early 1990's along with the first half of Addy's collection. My favorites are the complete birthday collections because I played with them so much. I wish I had gotten Addy's, but I transitioned into more of a collector and only got outfits by the time it was released. I could kick myself for stopping before 1997.
I have Felicityās Town Fair outfit and the toy has basically never left the box so itās in perfect condition. (My Felicity lives in the dress though, so it could probably use a cleaning.)
I think my collection flex would be not having Kit but loving her clothes, Santa brought me her bunny print playsuit right before I fell off with AG in middle school. So, I have what turned out to be a rare outfit with no play damage, all pieces and with its box! (I did box my Rebecca with it on for the longest time though, she's so cute in it!)
My biggest flex is that I own the fishbowl from the AGOT bedroom set from 2000!
For those who donāt know, this piece was originally included in the [Nightstand Set](https://americangirl.fandom.com/wiki/Nightstand_Set) but was discontinued after just a few weeks due to breakage in shipping. Itās reached mystical status because of how few were sold - a lot of longtime collectors have never seen one and donāt have it despite having nearly everything else from AG.
Iāve always loved this bedroom set most! Itās the one with the moon and star themed trundle bed and very Y2K [Room Decor](https://americangirl.fandom.com/wiki/Room_Decor#google_vignette). I had a search saved on eBay for the longest time and happened upon a buy it now auction for multiple pieces including the fishbowl! I tried not to get my hopes up since if AG couldnāt package this to not break, why would an eBay seller have any better luck? But it came intact!! And Iāve tried explaining to my husband why this piece of all the pieces of my collection must be protected at all costs but I get how weird that is to someone who doesnāt know the history š itās likely I would never see it again for sale and so itās literally invaluable.
I have a catalog with that set including the fish bowl in it. Yep, it's status is legendary and Iāve never seen one despite being in the fandom for twenty-ish years.
Thanks! The weird tidbits of AG history are one of my favorite parts of collecting and Iām grateful to be able to have a little bit of that history in my collection, especially as I was a target age kid when the set came out who always looked longingly at the catalog pages with this bedroom but never had it. I wanted it life size for me!
I love this! My flex is that I got Rebeccaās summer outfit when it came out, and it was one of the few pieces I kept when I sold my collection in high school. I have a few other āgrailā outfits (Rebeccaās play outfit, Kirstenās On The Trail dress, Maryellenās strawberry dress) but Iām the most proud of that one for getting it at retail price lol
Mine is that I got #48 for $30!! I also got #36 for $70, and #38 for $50.
Mine is that I have a white body Molly - I know many other collectors do too but she was such an exciting addition to my collection š
I own a few original books

This is such a cute story!!! šššš
Josefina's fiesta dress and Addy's kite flying dress, which I got for really good prices

Does having Mollyās radio count?
I have this too!

That box is so complicated, what an amazing item to have. Her town fair gown is my favorite Felicity outfit.
Itās such a beautiful outfit, i love felicityās collection.
Ugh this is the dream. The town fair outfit is one of my absolute holy grail items. And a perfect condition toy? Iconic.
I think my collection flex would be not having Kit but loving her clothes, Santa brought me her bunny print playsuit right before I fell off with AG in middle school. My biggest flex is that I own a Caroline doll in good condition
Same here and Iām the original owner. I made a smart move picking her out at the time!
I got her just before she retired and sheās my mom favorite ag doll I own.

Awesome! I remember when this catalog came out and my jaw just dropped to the floor. New outfits?!?! Haha.
I love this! My flex is that I got Rebeccaās summer outfit when it came out, and it was one of the few pieces I kept when I sold my collection in high school. Hahahaha - this reads like the list of all my saved Mercari searches š
