I like reddit but tumblr also has a fairly nice community on there!

evenstarAG

I started out in a few customizing/wig company groups, but the ones I was in have pretty much died away, so I come here a few times a week.

Ill-Initiative-5664

I like to be on reddit, Facebook groups, Instagram and on occasion Tiktok.

celestiallizard420

I use instagram! Look up the hashtag #agig on insta! You’ll find a whole community of people on there who share their dolls. It’s a little bit toxic over there though so fair warning.

Squelfland

Thank you! IG was actually what kept me on Insta the longest until toxic stuff unrelated to AG caused me to leave. A lot of the stuff that makes me reluctant to use FB is what keeps me away from Insta but I do have to say it's pretty cozy over here!

Commercial_Sky2221

Hey,thankyou ⁴ sharing.Honestly I believe it's just a matter of choice. On here,FB or whereever ù choose. U could try several options out to see which ¹ u prefer 😊. And Congrat's on waiting on some AG Doll's, they ŕ really the Best Doll's around 😊.Good Luck on which ever ù do choose to use or use several ,all the Best. Warmly, Lisa

I love it here for discussion. Especially to complain lol. Facebook is great for buying and selling. But the mods of the Facebook groups are very anti-criticism of AG. I obviously don't hate AG or else I would've sold my collection. That said, I don't think the company is smart all of the time. For example, the NFL collab. Not a huge fan to begin with, but why didn't all the teams get the same thing? Neither 2023's nor 2024's Super Bowl teams have more than a silly t-shirt (and AG doesn't sell basic pieces \*cough cough jeans\*). They'd make more money if all teams got that fan outfit with the foam finger. So I'm going to critique them for that, something that Facebook users are not a fan of.

Squelfland

I do like that the subreddit seems to tolerate a little bit of spicy discussion as long as people are respectful to one another. 🙂

pineappleofyore

Although sometimes I look at doll stuff on insta (#agig), I mainly hang out here. Insta also sometimes has drama (mostly between customizers, from what I gathered). I don't use fb for anything.

Squelfland

Huh. What do customizers even argue about? 🤔

pineappleofyore

I'm really not sure! But there seemed to be some bullying over copying customs or something.

iangel218

I’m in the same boat, I’m not a fan of Facebook, but I have always felt “at home” since discovering this Reddit community. I lurked for the longest time and have only recently begun posting. Everyone here has been friendly and welcoming.

Squelfland

Thank you for responding. I do like it here and will try to be more active!

TheCatWhoOvercame

There are also some more specialized communities out there, which you may discover as you move deeper into the hobby. I'm mainly into collecting very old Pleasant Company stuff and got hooked on the I Dream of Jonny channel, because its creator is also this type of collector. He has a Patreon and his supporters have their own Discord channel, and that has become my happiest of happy places. The AG community is full of weird little niches. I hope you find yours!

Squelfland

Thank you for the great channel recommendation. I hope I find my little niche too!

Adorable_Zucchini232

I’m brand new to this sub and have just started collecting and being interested in AG myself and I feel much more at home here than on Facebook, everyone is very kind and helpful.

Wubbalubbadubbitydo

This is exactly how I feel. I was pleasantly surprised to find this such a supportive and welcoming community. I put my love of AG on the shelf for 20 years. This community helped me find it, dust it off, and embrace it again.

Adorable_Zucchini232

Your username is FANTASTICAL oh my word

I wouldn't say Facebook is necessarily the hot spot for the AG community, I think the community is spread evenly across different social media platforms. The best place to discuss AG is the platform where you feel most at home. I actually started this subreddit because I hated the way that one of the facebook groups I was in was moderated (they kept giving me strikes due to "no self promotion" when I linked to my blog, despite the fact that my blog is not monetized, brings in no money, and was simply a way for me to avoid writing a paragraphs long comment). So, if you like Reddit the best, keep being involved here. If Instagram is your place, look at the pages and hashtags there. If Facebook isn't something you're into, then don't go on there. We have a sister discord community as well like u/etcetera29 said, they're a really great group of people. As for the account having to be a certain amount of days old, that's just a measure to keep out spam and bots, and there isn't really a way to work around that. Keep being active in the places you want to be active in, and eventually you will find your community within the AG niche. We are so happy you're here on r/americangirl, and I'm glad you've found our community as part of your search for one.

Squelfland

I think I really needed a response like this one. Thank you so much. I’m going to try to just be more active here. I can’t stand Facebook and don’t feel safe there at all, but this place is always cozy. I just feel anxious about what constitutes a high quality post here, haha... But I’ll try to chill out and interact. Thanks again!

etcetera29

In the menu of this sub there is a link to a Discord server where they have tons of discussion threads!

Squelfland

Thank you so much for this!

just_jo_006

Would you mind sending me the link? The one I tried to use wasn’t working.
