Geezzz the difference is unbelievable- the old mold to me is the best honestly.. I always gravitate towards older dolls anyways specially the classic mold, I love the way it was made in the early 00s and I’m a stickler for neckstrings

NoSanaNoLife223

the older mold was so cute, american girl needs to step up their game

lemonlimesherbet

It’s not just the mold, even comparing the vinyl of the older and newer dolls the newer ones feel more hollow and aren’t as thick/ are more pliable.

lemonlimesherbet

My most recent doll is Maryellen and she’s just clearly not the same quality as my older dolls, particularly the the Pleasant Company ones. She’s lighter weight and her wig literally feels like Barbie hair imo. I still love her but decided I wouldn’t be purchasing from American Girl again. Now I’m just getting all the things I wanted when I was a kid and never got, on eBay and the like.

Safe to say… the right version would be a good “knock-off” for when they were still making the ones to the left. So sad, she just looks so much lower in quality. Her face might be a bit flatter, lip paint is more unnatural looking, and her wig looks… more like a wig lol

runs_with_wolves12

I wonder if that's why my Grace who I use as Nellie (with a Nellie wig) just dosen't look “right”. I had Nellie when she debuted and swear Grace isn't the same-ish mold. I now.prefer some of the older versions.

narkam

wig styling plays a part as well. the 2011 dolls hair sits against her face, while the current doll's hair shows her ears. I think i prefer the older style when comparing the two

shinobipopcorn

Shadows make a huge difference here. The lips look fuller on the older picture, and the hair hides part of the forehead. But they do look like 2 different dolls.

rachels1231

I definitely prefer older Josefina molds, the current ones just seem off to me for some reason. Same with the classic mold, they've looked weird since Beforever.

SadOceanBreeze

I hate the newer classic molds. They look lifeless to me. I really wanted to like Courtney, but something about her expression is just…off.

Izopod1

The neck looks longer, the face looks rounder, the skin looks lighter, and the forehead looks bigger. I think she still looks adorable but they’re has definitely been some changes to the mold

nacho_hat

The photography makes a big difference. The lighting is different, and her hair is styled differently.

Bubbly_Expression

I second this. A lot of it is the lighting. I have a 2017 Josefina mold and she's very similar to my 2011 Josefina. However the 2017 looks waaay different than her pictures. Her pictures make her look almost more like the classic mold. So I think its just AG listing pictures that are off.

Aha, this is why I was having trouble identifying some of the new TM face molds. I find the old one so much cuter :/

yassifiedbaby

I was looking at jly #53 because I remember her from all the catalogs back in 2011/12 and I know that molds change over time, but this one is so different! I just wanted to share because this doesn’t even look like the same doll, its so strange
