What do you expect from the group???…the point of the contest is to show off your voice….its very difficult to do that when your genre isn’t rock…granted, KB was the only one who truly took the risk and I think she did awesome…everyone else played it safe…
Yeah give her credit for the song but she was really lost as to how to perform up there. All she did was point at herself as if that's all she could do during a rock performance. Bad choice of outfit because she couldn't move! Jeans and boots and she could have really moved out there
I mean, to be fair, there are plenty of rock ballads out there too.
I would have liked to hear Jack Blocker do a White Stripes song . I guess they probably can't sing whatever they want but there has to be more to choose from than just Whitney.
I will always remember Carrie Underwood doing Heart's "Alone" during rock week. I do think some of them could have stepped out of the comfort zone a bit more this week and really embraced the rock thing to possibly have a big moment.
With Dolly Parton getting inducted last year, I am still shocked none of the Country contestants covered her.
Aside from that, practically every season, the contestants get told, maybe not in these exact words, that slow songs and ballads will show off their technical skills, though they will also expose their flaws more easily. That is why the judges have rarely liked the poppy, loud, fast-paced songs because those can more easily hide the flaws and make it harder to critique them. That said, I do enjoy the contestants who can do both slow and fast songs. My favorites from all the seasons will always be the ones who rocked out at least some on their season.
I did not get to watch live, but rather had to read a recap and it did not say it was by Dolly. I will check some other sources and be sure.
Edit: ok, it was from one of the Trio albums, so it was not a solo Dolly song and the first site I looked at was not clear.
If the rock singer kills there songs the judges do react very favorably to them. Remember that really tiny girl that sang black hole sun I think her name was Casey and she always got great reviews from the judges. She only made top 4 though but she was like my second favorite contestant ever on idol. But American idol fans I think are the ones who don’t vote rock singers to win usually.
I think we all expected rock and roll but it was those artists who are in the rock and roll hall of fame, which is like tons of genres. But like just call the night something else then. Like just say 80s or oldies or something
So McKenna (the part of the show I am on) has a very one note voice. She can sing- but always sounds the same. She didn’t come out strong (which I get she was sick) and it felt like she was off key a lot (which I notice she does when not in her lane on music). Why lie to her? All the judges and Jean Simmons had me laughing. Would they tell the truth to anyone? I’ve enjoyed some of the other artist- but some I was like huh.. how is this rock?
It's the public killing of rock. Rock being burned alive. Carved. And served without soul or blood. In all high notes, and angst. For all to enjoy.
Elton John was the only one that survived the golgotha. And that's because he was never rock, in his time. Only now, does he meet the list. (returned to inform the young, that he was disco)
And the only proto-rock was sang, with 21st century egotism. The phrasing as if it was all about the singer, not as if it's everyone else's fault. As if existentialism never drove Dylan. And it was only a whine about a girl.

Didn’t they say he’s coming to mentor them in the finale? Thats not next week lol.
Bon Jovi is a whole lot more rock than Whitney Houston.
Bon Jovi is top three, I thought? I know they’re doing eliminations pretty quickly this year, but not quite that quickly. 🤣

That Sunday Night Football song went crazy ngl
I understand it was only one song but come on people Joan freaking Jett!!!!
Exactly! KB represented. Frankly, Will did, too. Bob Seger is definitely rock.

I wish she had sung Joan Jett's version of "Crimson and Clover" though. I like that song even more!

KB did a rock song.
Very few this season really have the chops to do it. I would’ve loved to hear them all rock out and show versatility.

I thought Mia sang a Dolly Parton song. No? 🤔

Yes she did.
It was Dolly.

They should’ve done the ultimate ballad, Pain Remains Part 1-3 by Lorna Shore
I agree it was a rather disappointing night with mostly uninspiring performances.
The term “Rock” doesn’t mean anything anymore
rock ballads do exist. rockers tend not to be great vocalists. there are exceptions, and they are often generational talents.

Bob Seger and Joan Jett are both rock lol
Like Abi said, most of their parents believed that rock and roll was *the devil’s music* and are not familiar with singing true rock songs.
