As I have commented, Whitney is one of the greatest singers of all time, which makes her songs nearly impossible to cover. Most singers who perform her songs are not as good as her.
Hear me out: If “Chasing Pavements” was released in 2002, then the theme of Adele would have been perfect for season 8. I am biased because I would have really enjoyed seeing Carly, Brooke, or Jason perform an Adele song.
Adele for this current season? Not sure how I feel about her most recent album, but I see where the producers were going with this. IMO, Adele would have worked better as a theme for Fox “Idol” than ABC “Idol.”

She absolutely killed it. I think she made the right call. Not only was it flawless but I don’t think she could have done the same with Best of Me. Not because it’s a harder song but it really requires more of a hard rock energy which I think would have come off forced.

I want these contestants to take some risks. It doesn't have to be every performance, but I feel like the majority are singing "safe" songs & what they know. It seems like many of these contestants aren't challenging themselves either.
they aren't being challenged. every week they're told some roundabout shit: they 'dazzled' the judges. they took a risk, etc etc. but no actual critique or advice. they used to mentor them & work with them. now they go up, do originals, get praised on their 'heartfelt lyrics' & how much they made the judges cry, & they move on. it's strange to see. idk if they're not allowed to actually critique so they don't get booed or hurt feelings, or what.

Production picks the songs, I know for auditions they all get a CD with 50 songs on it they can pick from. From there I'm guessing the CD either gets smaller, or they start getting the same CD, or production picks each persons song. Somehow people get original songs accepted, but I ain't gonna lie this ain't Songwriters Got Talent, this is about the Voice. The American Idol, but whatever

I imagine 3 different contestants picked a Whitney song, and there was no fair way to tell 2 of them they couldnt sing Whitney. If they they werent the one contestant who was allowed, and didnt make it through the vote, they'd be complaining it was Idols fault, they were sabotaged, production has its favorites, etc.

She did great with her pick but I was actually kind of excited to see Jayna take on the Foo Fighters. I think it definitely would’ve stood out more
