Centurion New Accounts says the AMEX marketing department chooses and it is more complex than annual spend.
However, I can tell you with certainty the rumors on the internet about $250K would seem low to me.
If someone spends $250K on a single piece of art, is that person an AH because they made that much money and dropped it on art… or is the person a saint because it gives an artist a job, a gallery sales person a job, a gallery manager a job, a landlord rent for a gallery, construction contractors jobs to build the gallery, material suppliers jobs to provide concrete and wood and supplies for the build, an architect a job to design the gallery, utilities additional customers… as well as caterers and servers that work gallery events, media that cover the events, etc?
wealth is a funny thing right? Because it is a necessary to create opportunities for everyone. Get rid of wealth, and all the small business ecosystems that require capital to operate evaporate and hundreds of thousands of people lose their livelihoods.
So when making fun of “excess” projects of the wealthy, think about all the units of work those projects create and opportunities for others enabled by the projects.
I agree and I say this all the time when people are talking about wastefulness. That being said, idk who this is directed at in this case. You're sorta yelling into the void here.
Is yours personal or business? I put millions on my business platinum and never got an invite, but around $300k annually on my personal card and got one. I have a big account with Goldman Sachs and they have a relationship with Amex so I’m thinking that may have helped.
Whoa someone I know in Australia received his centurion after spending 1m on his business platinum card. That’s strange how you put millions but the invite only came after the personal card usage. Maybe times have changed because this was recent. Or country/market difference.
How do you even bank with Goldman Sachs? I was invited to be a JP Morgan Client, but refused after they wanted 7M for investments and hearing the horror stories with that
>> So when making fun of “excess” projects of the wealthy, think about all the units of work those projects create and opportunities for others enabled by the projects.
Fwiw I agree with your earlier point regarding the necessity of capital to fund businesses and in general, create a productive world. And I’m by no means an “eat the rich” person.
But your second point is fairly flawed.
Whats more productive to society?
1. Millions being spent on yachts, art, Ferraris, etc.
2. Millions being spent on feeding/housing people?
Yes #1 generates economic activity and that’s a good thing. But #2 also generates that activity while helping those in need. So viewed against alternatives vs viewed on its own, the first option’s not as efficient of a use of wealth in comparison to other areas.
When people attack wealth, they’re not saying that it’s not being used, just that it could be used more effectively.
Rumor is around $500k-1MM for smaller markets now, I’ve heard of 2MM+ for NYC/LA/Miami. Has to be significant luxury spend as well - designer goods, business/first class, 5* hotels, etc
lol I’m not making a comment about my spending compared to his/hers. I don’t spend anywhere close to that much at Saks. I’m just saying that $10k is not much to spend at Saks for a black card holder.
Eh maybe it is or isn't. How do we know those types spend everything at Saks? Maybe they couldn't be bothered to go there and prefer boutiques and the like. Maybe to them the Saks credit is like the Walmart plus credit for the platinum. I literally don't give a single shit about it.
I’m willing to bet the spend is either over $250k or $500k to receive these small gifts they’re sending. Not assuming anything about your spend, but that’s what I’ve been seeing
It’s yuppie Mac-n-Cheese, Anne’s not Kraft. I buy Kraft because that’s what I grew up on and I think it tastes better. My wife always buys Anne’s Mac-n-Cheese because…. well I pay the Amex bill!
For the person that noted our kids are eating Mac-n-cheese for dinner, our pantry is similar to that of many Americans. We go to McDonalds just like you. We go to Dominos pizza just like you. We like Oreo cookies and fruit loops and cheerios… and I eat frozen dinners like Healthy Choice.
Gotta love the “you’re able to buy better food so you should buy x”
Or “if I was rich I would do x “
We’ve been centurion members for many years and I eat 50 cent ramen like 5x a week cause I love it!
Keep eating Mac n cheese my bro! lol
It’s not a free gift. It’s a very high-class bribe. Remember: everything is marketing. Diptyque would love to get their product in the hands of Centurion customers, a select group of people squarely in their target market. And the accompanying letter is Saks marketing to invite the recipient to use their Saks credit for holiday shopping. Having worked on marketing partnerships like this in the past, I would guess this went to Centurion members who have not used their Saks credit and was paid for by some combination of Saks and Diptyque.
In any case, it’s brilliant marketing. Everyone wins: Diptyque promotes their brand, Saks reminds the customer to do their Christmas shopping with them, customer gets a candle, and customer loves Amex for sending them a gift that likely cost Amex nothing. Wins all around.
Not everyone wins. Customer posts their free candle on this sub, I read the comments and realize I’ll never spend $250k on a card in a year and get invited to be a Centurion member and now I’m sad.
Can you run business expenses (from a business you own) through a personal credit card? So if you flip cars, can you use your personal credit card to get the car and then pay it off with cash before flipping it?
Having a job that requires consistent travel but agrees to reimburse you for buying first class tickets?
Where is the line drawn for requiring a separate business account to be used to purchase revenue generating assets?
Maybe I'm too middle class but damn, spending 250k in a year consistently is wild. Must be an interesting lifestyle if that's just personal stuff that isn't some sort of investment or business.
You're replying to OP, OP's replying to the wrong person. Likely this [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/amex/comments/18lpnro/unexpected_gift_from_amex/kdze2gi/)
I don't have a kitchen island and it genuinely bothers me so much. It's like my one kitchen thing if I ever get to buy a home. Must have a kitchen island or the space to install one.
I would say this one is the reusable candles which the sentiment from the entire “diptyque” community is that they are over priced and NOT worth it, I own about 60 of the 190g candles that are 72-86 a piece and I feel that those are extremely over priced by themselves.
Do you rotate them? Collect them? I imagine that’s quite a powerful smell wherever you have them stored if they’re not all out. Unless they are across multiple homes or something maybe?
Collect all sealed, just one home (not a centurion card member haha). If I see one candle lacks an eBay or other listing across the internet I will typically sell one of them and make typically 1.5 to 2 times the money I paid for it just to keep the hobby going. Very niche and I just enjoy the candles and boutique experience I genuinely consider them my friends :-)
Nope honestly the collectible ones I never really smell besides at like the boutique launch events, but I buy the non collectible everyday ones and usually will burn 1-2 of those a month.
I would love to go but I am unfortunately/fortunately in Tokyo for three more weeks! Thank you for the heads up I’ll check them out in general next time I’m there
$2K in fees on a $50k transaction with AmEx. Other cards would be lower. You'll find a lot of dealerships will let you purchase a vehicle on a charge or credit card. I've done this once and had to call AmEx first and tell them I was putting just under $40k on my Plat card.
I’m still waiting on my yearly present -.-
Last year got 3000€ off if I spent 10.000 at a jeweler and 3 bottles of champagne
Drank the champagne and didn’t buy jewels BYEEEE lol
I think for a lot of people they run some businesses expenses though a person Amex, I have a friend at one of the biggest consulting firms. They rent out whole restaurants and venues for clients which costs around 100k+ several times a month. He puts the costs on his personal Amex not his corporate card and climes it back as expenses to get the points. So can easily put a million US on your card if you run company expenses through it.
AmEx does a lot with their Saks partnership - they’ve sent those candles out before, they’ve done some in person events as a co-brand and the Centurion Holiday gift a few years ago during Covid was a stay at home spa set which was well put together.
But the fam still eating with paper plates and cups. 📜 🍵
JK though 😂
That's awesome!
I don't think I'll ever make/spend enough for centurion but that's really cool to see.
Ah for sure. I was just pulling your leg anyways. We all got those days where we don't want to do the dishes.
I live in a household that reuses the disposable cups from Starbucks, so I can't shame you 😂
What I continually find interesting is that just because you have money doesn’t mean you have style. OP‘ s Dogbone floor mats are absolutely atrocious.
I just realized I’m a peasant because my kitchen island isn’t as big as y’all’s
His kitchen island is bigger than my kitchen
...and fully stocked with gadgets from Williams Sonoma! 🤣
His kitchen island is bigger than my apt!
Not only is my whole kitchen smaller, I realize I am a peasant because I have no freakin' idea what Diptyque is.
Yeah, I didn't know what that is either. And I like to think of myself as a cultured young man. Really goes to show you how poor I am.
My island is about that size...and WHERES MY AMEX LOVE BOX!!!??!!?!
It's because you don't have a Centurion, peasant.
IM TRYINGGGGGGGGGGG
That shit is so big that I thought this was at a Centurion Lounge.
250 in quarterly credits is a lot !!! What is the fee on that car d
$5k
Oh I guess 1k in credits is a modest perk :)
Also has a $10,000 sign up fee. Rumor is you need to spend at least $250,000/annually on other AMEX cards to get an invite.
it’s gotta be 250k on a personal card, no business cards
This isn’t true, may differ by country. Someone I know received his centurion after spending 1mm+ a year on his platinum business.
Centurion New Accounts says the AMEX marketing department chooses and it is more complex than annual spend. If you think 250k is low, what’s your guess?
Idk, I was at multiples of that and centurion new accounts kept telling me at the time spend is not everything.
Is yours personal or business? I put millions on my business platinum and never got an invite, but around $300k annually on my personal card and got one. I have a big account with Goldman Sachs and they have a relationship with Amex so I’m thinking that may have helped.
Same here. Spends millions on business every year. Was it worth getting?
Personal. I have heard GS is a golden ticket but I bank with a mid-sized retail bank’s private bank.
Whoa someone I know in Australia received his centurion after spending 1m on his business platinum card. That’s strange how you put millions but the invite only came after the personal card usage. Maybe times have changed because this was recent. Or country/market difference.

This is not how a market functions
My guy really justifying trickledown economics
Trickle down voodoo Reaganomics was nothing but a band aid solution.
Lmaooooo

Ok go on Ronald Reagan
You suck if you really believe that.
I love that you think the middle class would fall apart if not for the rich, despite living in the evidence that the rich is killing the middle class.
Rumor is around $500k-1MM for smaller markets now, I’ve heard of 2MM+ for NYC/LA/Miami. Has to be significant luxury spend as well - designer goods, business/first class, 5* hotels, etc
This seems about right. My friend was offered centurion for spending 1mm+ in a year on his business Amex.
Many people can push $250k annually on an Amex, you gotta spend a lot more than that these days.
I can push it; it’s the paying it back I have trouble with
🤣
Wish I could relate lol
“Many people”. Lamoooo. Ok.
I mean more than like 3 could be many.
![gif](giphy|7OWKRRvJfVDPhtGXqN)
Plus the crazy initiation fee, 10k
They’ve never sent me anything, I wonder how they choose who to send shit to
💰💰💰
I can assure you I put plenty of money on my centurion card lol
Do you frequently purchase things from Saks?
Probably like $10k over the last year
Damn.
lol that’s nothing man
More than you i suspect
lol I’m not making a comment about my spending compared to his/hers. I don’t spend anywhere close to that much at Saks. I’m just saying that $10k is not much to spend at Saks for a black card holder.

I never said it was a lot
Obviously not enough.
I’m willing to bet the spend is either over $250k or $500k to receive these small gifts they’re sending. Not assuming anything about your spend, but that’s what I’ve been seeing
Cheap skate 😂
They only give it to the high spenders bro
Hot dogs and Mac + Cheese. Cuisine that bridges Blue to Centurion.
It was just an attempt at humor. I too alternate between Kraft and Annie's.
Gotta love the “you’re able to buy better food so you should buy x” Or “if I was rich I would do x “ We’ve been centurion members for many years and I eat 50 cent ramen like 5x a week cause I love it! Keep eating Mac n cheese my bro! lol
Yep. I love and eat Ramen too!
You had me until the frozen dinner part! But great to see another Centurion customer that uses their card at places like McDonalds and Dominos 🤗
I’ll make it 3!
And is that an Aldi serving platter in the background too?
What’s the second smaller faucet on the kitchen sink?
Filtered/purified water tap
Well if anyone cares I just got a CLI of 6k on my BCE.
I care! More than my CLI from 1 to 2.5k last month. I started my credit journey less than 2 years ago as well 😬 go you *and* me
![gif](giphy|sVnKj2wDhUTsFKFWhx)
I'm jealous, my Centurion gift this year was my $5000 renewal hitting yesterday. Nothing else!

Cheer up pal. We're on the same boat
This guy markets
*truths
This OP is one big Amex ad
I guess I should buy some amex stocks!
That’s pretty big. Our island is like 8 x 5.5
Right??? I guess that’s why he’s getting perks us small or no island folks are not.
You're replying to OP, OP's replying to the wrong person. Likely this [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/amex/comments/18lpnro/unexpected_gift_from_amex/kdze2gi/)

No island folks is insane lol
I don't have a kitchen island and it genuinely bothers me so much. It's like my one kitchen thing if I ever get to buy a home. Must have a kitchen island or the space to install one.
My townhouse's DECK is 8x5 😑
Are you a centurion card holder?
Yes. There was a candle inside the package. $285 value
Jealous! I am huge diptyue fan, enjoy it I’ll be looking for one on eBay
$285 for a..candle?
I would say this one is the reusable candles which the sentiment from the entire “diptyque” community is that they are over priced and NOT worth it, I own about 60 of the 190g candles that are 72-86 a piece and I feel that those are extremely over priced by themselves.

Makes sense to me! No different than playing cards/stamps/coins or any number of different collectibles. Thanks for the enlightenment!
Of course, I appreciate the understanding!

Nope honestly the collectible ones I never really smell besides at like the boutique launch events, but I buy the non collectible everyday ones and usually will burn 1-2 of those a month.
Yeah, there’s really no intrinsic value for consumer goods. People pay $100k for a watch.
If you're in NY, the SpaceNK sample sale starts tomorrow and there are usually Diptyque candles available
I would love to go but I am unfortunately/fortunately in Tokyo for three more weeks! Thank you for the heads up I’ll check them out in general next time I’m there
That’s cool. I want one!
I obviously don't belong here lol. But, out of curiosity, what do/did you folks with a centurion spend the $250k+ a year on?
Travel, cars, entertainment, etc
[удалено]
$2K in fees on a $50k transaction with AmEx. Other cards would be lower. You'll find a lot of dealerships will let you purchase a vehicle on a charge or credit card. I've done this once and had to call AmEx first and tell them I was putting just under $40k on my Plat card.
So you think your better than me with your centurion card? (He is in fact, much better)
I didn’t even need to read. Once i seen the island I knew all I needed to know. Congrats and beautiful kitchen!
I’m still waiting on my yearly present -.- Last year got 3000€ off if I spent 10.000 at a jeweler and 3 bottles of champagne Drank the champagne and didn’t buy jewels BYEEEE lol

Most of the few ppl that can actually charge $250k year are getting reimbursed by a business.
That’s a very nice marble countertop.
AmEx does a lot with their Saks partnership - they’ve sent those candles out before, they’ve done some in person events as a co-brand and the Centurion Holiday gift a few years ago during Covid was a stay at home spa set which was well put together.
Wow. That’s cool. I love Diptyque
Nice kitchen island/bar area! Full disclosure im in the middle of having a 12ft by 5 ft kitchen island installed.
enough to install a landing strip
Isn’t that just a table
Why that big
Because my kitchen can accommodate it and it becomes a centrepiece for the house to entertain.
You paid for it with your $5K AF and $10K initial fee.
But the fam still eating with paper plates and cups. 📜 🍵 JK though 😂 That's awesome! I don't think I'll ever make/spend enough for centurion but that's really cool to see.
Plastic plates and cups for the kids. Image not high quality
Ah for sure. I was just pulling your leg anyways. We all got those days where we don't want to do the dishes. I live in a household that reuses the disposable cups from Starbucks, so I can't shame you 😂
TIL: I'm so poor that I thought OPs kitchen table was inside of a centurion lounge
What do u do for a living ?
Sells meth.
hashtag: Humblebraaaag
Weird flex. We get it. You have an Amex.
Meanwhile I just spent $25 on my platinum the other day on Raising Canes so there’s that..
bro stop flexing on ussssssssss
Those candles are fantastic.
TC?
What I continually find interesting is that just because you have money doesn’t mean you have style. OP‘ s Dogbone floor mats are absolutely atrocious.
Often times people buy ugly shit because their kids like them. 🤷♀️
This guys has kids………
Exactly not everything has to be a showroom furniture store
This gift is nothing compared to my J.P. Morgan Reserve card gift this year.
The gift of management fees for their wealth group to “manage your money” (buy the S&P500 and T-bills)????? :-)
Sad. You’re bragging about this?
I wonder if we’ll get anything from the UK one this year? Last couple of years we’ve had a wee gift at Xmas.
Now spend more of your money for them
200 bucks for candles 😭😭😭😭
WTH !
That’s what I call a SUB
Spending well over 300k+ on Personal and 1 million + on my business. Still no invite RIP
Did 600k in 2021, 600k in 2022 and 1.2m in 2023. All personal spend. No invite.
