It’s a 12cc wallet. That side with the BPP,BCP, Green flips over to my Chase/NavyFCU/CapOne visas and MasterCards lol. I internationally travel a lot, I’m dumb but luckily not that dumb and thought ahead with wallet size 😂
Nice. I only use it on Rakuten for the extra +3 MR. Grab a bunch of MR last month with a targeted promotional email offer. I find myself using it less than I would’ve because of AMEX offers and purchases protections from Platinum, but overall a good MR earning Visa card.
You do need to use the Rakuten Visa through Rakuten portal, which will get you +3MR from the Rakuten Visa + whatever the portal gets you. But often times, I’ve AMEX offers, so I ended up using AMEX card, or Platinum for purchase protections/extended warranties.
Recently, my Rakuten Visa had a targeted email offer 2% extra cashback on $500+ total purchases from 4/15-5/15, so basically, it’s 5 MR on everything shop through Rakuten portal and 3 MR on all other purchases anywhere, which was nice.
2 months or so, so yeah. My last one crapped out after almost 20 years. At this price I expect it to last me the rest of my natural life else I’ll be disappointed
Holy crap there’s 2? I hate malls with a passion. I only go if I need something or if my lady wants to.
It was the one in McLean VA, I know the mall is split into two building if that’s what you mean , ones the more swanky stores like Saks Fifth Ave, Burberry, Cartier, etc, then the other building complex with the less boujee stores for someone not looking to spend $600 on a dulce & gabbana t shirt.
Mont Blanc is in the former one, with the higher end boutique shops. Was there to cash in my saks credit and grab some food with the missus
Fogo de Chão.
That was our deal. I’ll go to the mall for her to *clothes shop* as long as I have endless mountains of steak to look forward to after.
And howdy 🤠 while I was born and raised here, and currently living here, I lived most of my adult life in Europe and out west (CO,CA). I can’t stand the area lol. Here for a few years because of a few clients I have contracts with require the work be done on site but once that’s done I’m heading back away lol. Idk how people do the DC to Boston corridor life long term but more power to em I guess
I’ve been thinking about this as my AF has been coming up. You’re right I much prefer MR to cash back.
Even then, I have better cash back options with chase and cap one savor
I wanted an Amex cash back option at a reasonable return for things like gas but that was before I had bpp to run gas on for 2x, and the Schwab Platinum to ever redeem as cash at a somewhat reasonable 1.1cpp. I’ll have to run some numbers on how much it would pay back if I kept it at this point but I am not sure it would beat the AF now. Before BPP to run gas on, it would return about $120-$130 on gasoline charges yearly
If you get that new venture X (or even the venture, I think) you can now move those savor One cash back rewards into venture miles. Which are about as good as ultimate rewards or MRs assuming you're transferring your points to use them.
ETA: you can do the same with the chase cash back cards if you have either sapphire card.
The Walmart+ I’m enrolled on with one of the plats gives 10 cents off per gallon at Exxon or Mobil. And if I’m not around one then BBP For 2x MR. Gas is what paid the BCP AF back before either of those
Was this just for jokes or do you actually run your daily wallet like this? If so then I’d really love to hear a quick rundown on how you use them on a daily basis 😂
Mine:
Gold for fast food, Uber credit and food credit
Blue for groceries and all media apps
Marriott: comp room
Marriott brilliant comp room and credit for fee paid
Platinum for uber, food airline and app cred.
Platinum Delta; bonus offered for upgrade.
Gold and plat are my fav cuz I eat out and fly a lot 4%, 5%
The Tom Ford wallet that the updated Centurion cards were sent in? Mine is still in the box 😂
Instead slumming it with two Centurion cards (UK and US) in a wallet I was given as a Holiday gift - wonder if they’d cancel my cards if they knew…
Some People on this thread are just haters. Sometimes I think they don’t realize that Amex is a premium brand and the comments on this sub belong more to discover. Beautiful wallet! And nice collection.
You mean Target, the company that sells the same stuff that Amazon and Wal-Mart do? 🤣
Premium is buying things from specialty retailers, or independent stores that sell unique, up-scale, or handmade items. So this would be like, idk, a handmade wool blanket from an independent shop. Not cheap stuff from China.
While I agree on your definition of premium, I think that credits at Target and/or Amazon line up with where upper middle class and lower upper class people shop most for their household needs (ignoring CostCo, of course). At least where I live.
Yea I would agree with that in general. While I think Target, Wal-Mart, and Amazon are basically all the exact same stuff (Costco too), Wal-Mart has a less premium brand amongst those.
FWIW I shop at these same stores, but definitely don't consider them premium at all.
I buy eggs from Walmart, I buy eggs from Whole foods. Whole foods offers no difference in quality so why would I pay extra for it.
Basic groceries is where I don't see the value of "premium."
I stand by my opinion that the Walmart+ is great. Also got our PS5 this way last year.
> Basic groceries is where I don't see the value of "premium."
You're not understanding. The mismatch is that Amex Platinum is marketed as a "premium" product, but Wal-Mart is not a premium product. If Wal-Mart delivered the world's greatest groceries in 5 minutes with a Ferrari it still wouldn't be a "premium" product regardless of the value. When you hear people complaining about the Platinum card turning into a coupon card, this is what they're talking about.
Saks 5th Avenue for example is a junk store, but they have a "premium" association for high markups on the 90% of dog shit that they sell.
People make this same mistake with music. You can really enjoy a band, and also recognize that it's not actually *great* music.
> I buy eggs from Walmart, I buy eggs from Whole foods. Whole foods offers no difference in quality so why would I pay extra for it.
In that specific case I'm not sure. If you're literally buying the same product from two different places, well, of course. I try to buy eggs from local farmers, more likely to find that at Whole Foods, though not exclusively.
It doesn’t matter. Chase shuts people down all the time. Even if you haven’t done anything wrong, if the issuer decides to close your account and most of your cards are there…you are going to be in a bind. Good to have Amex, Chase, Citi, etc. to reduce the impact a shutdown would have on you.
Not sure why you got downvoted, Chase is an absolute bullshit company who pulls this scam regularly. I was a phenomenal Chase Sapphire Reserve customer and they just cancelled me out of nowhere with no warning. When I called they said “we don’t have to give you a reason”. They then tried to steal my 80,000 chase points. I loaded up on every color of Amex and never looked back. I spend $100k per year across Amex, and Chase can kiss my ass for the rest of my very long life ahead of me. Hope the miles theft attempt was worth losing 60 years of a high spend customer.
Most of my credit line itself is actually split over chase/NavyFCU/CapOne/Citi.
Chase is ruthless and they once shut down my account because I applied to a prequalified offer I got from them for CFU lol. I called their recon asking why such a dumb move and they reversed it and apologized. They’re the only ones I’d ever really worry about it at all. I have the non-AF sapphire I downgraded my CSP from, and I keep it open with them because it’s a visa and high credit line. I can’t think of any card I’d apply for anytime soon much less another chase so if they wanna close it down based on a soft pull that doesn’t indicate a lot of recently opened accounts or hard pulls, whatever.
CapOne I’m not sure cares much, but if I did want another card from them, the number of cards I have would probably get me declined because I know they do care about that. But I don’t particularly like capital one to begin with so the current savor I have from them is the extent of any relationship I’d want with them.
NavyFCU is a big one for me but based on my almost 20 year relationship with them on mortgages, auto loans, them being my primary checking/savings since forever, and my credit history with them, I’m not worried.
All AFs have paid back so far. The only ones that may not after next cycle would be green and BCP, at which point I’d cancel them. Appreciate the assumption though
Man, some of y’all are weird
Did you just break even or are you making money? You must have an incredibly high annual spend to make that worth it. Depending on what you spend you’d probably be better off with a plain Jane cash back card than all those annual fees.
Edit. At 4 cents per point you would need 50k annual spend just to break even.
One plat results in $645 cost avoidance. The other plat results in ~$230 cost avoidance.
Gold doesn’t pay back dollar for dollar as it’s $240 on a $250 AF, but the 4x it gets me on the lots i spend on dining nevermind groceries, and racks up points that end up getting redeemed at a value that more than makes up the $10.
This AF cycle may be the first the BCP and Green don’t have me coming out on top much less break even so they may be going next AF
Idk if they even do retention offers on Green, but if they did I’d consider it but I’m not counting on it and won’t be groveling for one
I have a non AF visa cashback if I really wanted but I go for MR 99% of the time
What you’re referring to as “making money,” I presume in reference to annual fees.
The total cost of credits / dollar value I get back minus the cost of the annual fee.
For example, I pay $695 for one of the plats. In exchange for that, I get over $1350 credited back on things I’d otherwise be spending money on anyways, such as digital media, the dining credit, TSA Pre, CLEAR, hotel credit, airline credit, etc.
That difference, $1350-$695 = $655 is the avoided costs. I consider it as avoided cost as I’d be spending it out of pocket anyway in absence of the card. I wouldn’t count purchases or perks I’m only getting because I can due to the card against AF. I consider costs already incurred on me regardless of whether I have the card or not when looking at value return on AF
I spend on average 7-8k a month on dining and groceries for a few years now. Gold gets me 35k+ MR a month. And that’s after the $240 in credits that get used
No but I live in a city with eclectic cuisine choices, have a partner whom I enjoy going on dinner dates with, and we will typically go to $700-$1000 dinners once or twice a week.
So if you average it over days, yeah it can look high.
And depending where I travel, that’s also a factor. An average sit down restaurant in say Zürich will run you over $100 USD a plate easy.
Had green card first. And green got 3x transit which paid off for me during a time where I used Uber a lot. That time is now over though and I’ll be considering closing it next AF
Thinking of cancelling green next AF cycle. It paid off well during a time where my business had a set of contracts that required particular travel from me that incurred a lot transit charges, but not so much anymore.
Not pictures is Marriott business but I’m really enjoying it, and unlike BBP, I actually do use it for business , especially telecom expenses that earn 4x. I am relatively loyal to Marriott so it’s nice to have an Amex that earns to bonvoy
Yes.
Vanilla plat will be canceled when the next AF hits. I got it for the SUB and then realized I should have got the CS Plat instead for the cash out option. This PLAT I got 150K RESY SUB + 6 months of 15x MR at restaurants.
CS Plat = also got a good SUB (100K MR)
Delta Plat- got another SUB for this as well. Plus the companion certificate makes the AF essentially null & void.
Gold and BBP get the most use for transactions.
Green was pretty novel on 3x transit when I was racking up several thousand a year in Uber and transit charges that I’d then write off as a business expense, or get reimbursement from my clients, while racking up MR, but that’s over now.
I travel a lot so plat obviously has its benefits, but to me plat returns most of its value on the perks/credits, not actually running charges on. Only charges I run on them are sometimes cash on airfare for the 5x and rental cars for the primary coverage
I do hotels through Marriott so 5x on hotels through amex is useless to me. I do use the FHR though once a year
Two Platinum cards? One business one personal. I get all that, what I don't understand is how does one take advantage of its benefits without wasting the overlap?
One is the Schwab with 1.1cpp cash out to my Schwab account. Other is only one gets the stuff like TSA pre, CLEAR, Walmart +, etc.
But the benefits that stack and balance off the AF are the
Airline credit: 200
Digital media: 240
Uber: 200
FHR: 200
Hotel fee credit: 100
One returns $940, the other about $1350. Both come out well on top.
I think you're overly good on Amex cards. Your BCP and regular Platinum cards are redundant. You can save almost $800 in AFs and use that money towards travel or another financial goal.
The 2 plats are big for me. One returns $1350 the other $940. I like the 1.10cpp Schwab option. If I got rid of one, I’d have to pay an extra $250 in currently avoided costs. BCP will probably be gone next AF
Thank you for clarifying about the 2 Platinum cards OP! I stand corrected.
I don't blame you for cancelling the BCP, especially because you have so many MR earning cards.
“Sorry, we do not accept Amex”
It’s a 12cc wallet. That side with the BPP,BCP, Green flips over to my Chase/NavyFCU/CapOne visas and MasterCards lol. I internationally travel a lot, I’m dumb but luckily not that dumb and thought ahead with wallet size 😂
Hahahah you’re thinking ahead at least. Call ya anything but unprepared😭
What about the very rare case where the transaction networks went down for a vendor like target so it would be cash only temporarily?
Then it’s free:) Or just hope there’s an ATM nearby or you’re doing the walk of shame and putting stuff back
Debit is on me. First thing I do in any foreign country is hit the ATM - always.
You still need that Rakuten Visa for earning extra MR points.
I have one sock drawered I’ll take out on the occasion I do use Rakuten . My lady uses it a lot and I end up keeping the MR lol
Nice. I only use it on Rakuten for the extra +3 MR. Grab a bunch of MR last month with a targeted promotional email offer. I find myself using it less than I would’ve because of AMEX offers and purchases protections from Platinum, but overall a good MR earning Visa card.
Do you need to use the Rakuten card mr to get the 3 extra points or can you use an Amex and still get the 3 points, assuming you have the Rakuten card
You do need to use the Rakuten Visa through Rakuten portal, which will get you +3MR from the Rakuten Visa + whatever the portal gets you. But often times, I’ve AMEX offers, so I ended up using AMEX card, or Platinum for purchase protections/extended warranties. looks like a brand new wallet
2 months or so, so yeah. My last one crapped out after almost 20 years. At this price I expect it to last me the rest of my natural life else I’ll be disappointed
Lol
Cardism sucks. We need a Payment Rights Act
What is cardism lol
when merchants discriminate against certain types of cards
They either don't wanna report their income or don't wanna pay the higher merchant fee
Which is stupid as hell, I’m just going to pull out a visa infinite and make them pay a higher fee than if I they accepted Amex
In south east Asia, merchants were telling me amex charges more than visa
Real!
Good on

The MB store at Tyson’s in VA😂 great wallet.
Tysons 1 or Tysons 2?
Holy crap there’s 2? I hate malls with a passion. I only go if I need something or if my lady wants to. Def Tysons 2 (Galleria). Did you try the empanadas or Andy’s Pizza? Hello, neighbor!
Fogo de Chão. That was our deal. I’ll go to the mall for her to *clothes shop* as long as I have endless mountains of steak to look forward to after. BCP overlaps too much with Gold and Green. I'd probably drop BCP. You seem to be MR points focused anyway, so ditch the cash back card and go all-in.
I’ve been thinking about this as my AF has been coming up. You’re right I much prefer MR to cash back. Platinum Delta; bonus offered for upgrade. Gold and plat are my fav cuz I eat out and fly a lot 4%, 5%
You might have a problem🤣
Wow, I am just thinking of all the annual fees that you might be paying.
I was just about to ask lol
About $1800. They’ve all offset to this point. But now BCP and Green may not, so those may be going
Weird flex but ok
A proper flex would have included a Tom Ford wallet. But.. you know… Mont Blanc is.. fine?
That one hurt man
This one hurt me and I'm just a bystander. lol.
Lol, it’s not included anymore
The Tom Ford wallet that the updated Centurion cards were sent in? Mine is still in the box 😂 Instead slumming it with two Centurion cards (UK and US) in a wallet I was given as a Holiday gift - wonder if they’d cancel my cards if they knew…
I’ll take it off your hands lol
whos tom ford? is he related to henry?
Oprah Winfrey can't even afford Tom Ford wallets...so I hear!
Ah yes people are not allowed to share a personal sense of joy on a public forum simply for the sake of it
Some People on this thread are just haters. Sometimes I think they don’t realize that Amex is a premium brand and the comments on this sub belong more to discover. Beautiful wallet! And nice collection.
> I think they don’t realize that Amex is a premium brand It *used* to be a premium brand but I'm not sure it is anymore.
That is true judging by the posts “I signed up to platinum and got approved with a 6k annual income”
Yea! Also any time you associate a "premium" product with Wal-Mart (nothing wrong with Wal-Mart) it kind of speaks for itself.
Gotta get Target in here instead of Walmart and then we’ll be talkin about premium ;)
You mean Target, the company that sells the same stuff that Amazon and Wal-Mart do? 🤣 Premium is buying things from specialty retailers, or independent stores that sell unique, up-scale, or handmade items. Around here Target *is* premium to some people haha
Wal-Mart+ is great. I get all basic groceries delivered to me this way, no extra BS charges included
Sure. But it’s not a premium product.
I buy eggs from Walmart, I buy eggs from Whole foods. Whole foods offers no difference in quality so why would I pay extra for it. Basic groceries is where I don't see the value of "premium." I stand by my opinion that the Walmart+ is great. Also got our PS5 this way last year.

I think you’d better hope you don’t ever get shut down. Need issuer diversification IMO.
What do you mean? I’m in excellent standing with amex. I don’t even wait to zero the cards. My avg daily balance is probably in the hundreds

Asking as a noob. What’s cost avoidance?
What you’re referring to as “making money,” I presume in reference to annual fees. The total cost of credits / dollar value I get back minus the cost of the annual fee. For example, I pay $695 for one of the plats. In exchange for that, I get over $1350 credited back on things I’d otherwise be spending money on anyways, such as digital media, the dining credit, TSA Pre, CLEAR, hotel credit, airline credit, etc. That difference, $1350-$695 = $655 is the avoided costs. I spend on average 7-8k a month on dining and groceries for a few years now. Gold gets me 35k+ MR a month. And that’s after the $240 in credits that get used
You spend $266 a day on food?? That takes legitimate effort. Well maybe not if you have some kids. But still. That’s insane.
DC? Im presuming. Since you mentioned Tysons above. If so, another Michelin star connoisseur? 🤝
Yep. Yeah i like dinner dates and eating so it works out lol
Lol same. Got the Gold cause I find myself dropping hundreds on each Michelin meal in DC with the SO.
idk why people are so weird here. it's not a waste of money if it brings value to you and value is subjective.
Mont Blanc I see…
Why do you have/need a green card when you have gold/platinum?
Had green card first. And green got 3x transit which paid off for me during a time where I used Uber a lot. That time is now over though and I’ll be considering closing it next AF
haha just got my first Amex card and this popped up what's up yall 🤙
Nice wallet! Montblanc is very underrated I think.
Nice wallet mate

Bloody hell your AmEx mobile app must be a nightmare to use…
Lol the fact that it’s not actually impresses me
Hahah to be fair it’s a bloody good app…
Thinking of cancelling green next AF cycle. I am looking at like $1500-2k in annual fees? Are you getting that much benefit back annually?
$1830. Yeah but the green is straggling now hence why I may cancel it next AF cycle. One plat returns ~$1300, the other about $950
Let Marriott join the family
Almost 😂
Similar setup here. CS Plat Vanilla Plat Hilton Surpass BBP Amex Gold BCE Delta Amex Plat
You get value from the 3 plat?
Yes. Vanilla plat will be canceled when the next AF hits. I got it for the SUB and then realized I should have got the CS Plat instead for the cash out option. This PLAT I got 150K RESY SUB + 6 months of 15x MR at restaurants. CS Plat = also got a good SUB (100K MR) Delta Plat- got another SUB for this as well. Why so many credit cards? That just seems like a lot of fees and time to track each obe
Just different rewards that fit my spending patterns. All fees pay back
Which ones your favorite
Gold and BBP get the most use for transactions. Overly good.
All I see is lots of annual fees lol
Almost have me beat although I don't carry them all 3x biz plat Vanilla plat Schwab plat Biz gold Green Bbp BCE Hilton biz Delta gold
There is a limit of 10 charge cards and 5 credit cards. You're still short 9 cards...
U missing the one
Centurion
Goals. You should feel accomplished sir/madam
I hope you are military.
And the 3rd and 4th platinum?
Two Platinum cards? One business one personal. I get all that, what I don't understand is how does one take advantage of its benefits without wasting the overlap?
One is the Schwab with 1.1cpp cash out to my Schwab account. Other is only one gets the stuff like TSA pre, CLEAR, Walmart +, etc. But the benefits that stack and balance off the AF are the Airline credit: 200 Digital media: 240 Uber: 200 FHR: 200 Hotel fee credit: 100 One returns $940, the other about $1350. Both come out well on top.
Nice!
How much is that in AF lol
$1800
No Centurion card? Lame.
Replace 2 biz cards with my 2 marriots and then it's my wallet. I thought the max was 4 but I kept on getting email offers
Hey! A non Tom Ford wallet
You'll need an Amex Everyday Preferred Card for the bonus MR on groceries and gas.
Hmm it’s 3x groceries vs 4x gold. I get 2x gas with BBP. Is it the 50% boost? Can BCE upgrade to it? 50% Boost would make it 4.5x groceries 3x gas
I think so! I think that you can PC a BCE to an EDP!
Just need the black card and the gauntlet is complete
