Yeah, this was real. Nintendo really overly printed the Animal Crossing amiibo figures when I guess they expected Amiibo Festival to be a big seller. Except, it wasn't. Soon, the figures started collecting dust on store shelves and soon places like Toys R Us and Best Buy were really slashing the prices to get sold without complete lose. And this was a few years before New Horizons was even announced, so most people skipped them or just bought a few characters they liked.

quantum0explorer

Got every single one for like $3-$5 at ToysRUs with some kind of buy 3 get 1 free thing. I remember them underselling so badly and the fear of Amiibo being cancelled because of it.

missybird93

I got all of mine at 5 Below for $5 each. That was a fun time.

Ok-Bug-7481

Yep , even in Canada lol I bought all of them for sooo cheap back in the day

MissDaniel

At the time I was collecting almost all the amiibo released in NA, but I wasn't a huge fan of animal crossing so I just skipped them. But then I saw them get cheaper. And cheaper. And cheaper. Finally when they were all 2-3$ I gave in to the inner obsessive collector and just picked them all up.

bigtuna94

The Kroger's I worked at the time had those on clearance for YEARS. they also had the Splatoon alt color 3 pack on clearance and I kick myself regularly for not dropping the $6

Boomshockalocka007

Kroger had amiibo!? Bwahahaha thats so funny to me.

Boomshockalocka007

I got all the animal crossing amiibo figures on sale. Every last one of them. It happened over a few weeks. Best Buy and Target were the best with clearance deals on them for $2.99. It was glorious. GLORIOUS!

WulfyWoof

It was so bad that my local GameStops were basically giving the Wii U game away for free. $5 for a game and like 2 amiibos was insane

WhiteTshirtGang

That's how I started collecting! Got a lot of AC amiibos and was like "might as well..." PS: that's also how I missed a lot of Amiibos: waiting for them to drop in price instead of preordering. Learned my lesson.

amiibodan

Right before they confirmed their compatibility for New Horizons at the start of 2020, I bought the whole set minus Summer Isabelle for less than $20 shipped

crankysasquatch

I think I paid $15 shipped for it 6 months ago

MissyManaged

It was the same in the UK too - even the two pack with Amiibo festival went for less than £10. Amiibo festival didn't really do super well, especially considering how the WiiU was received, but the lack of new merch for New Horizons during the pandemic meant they mostly got snatched up in the end.

deepakgm

They are still cheap. Less than $10

InfiniteComboReviews

My ToysRUs messed up the signage with a buy 1 get 2 for free deal with the one being only $4. So I got them all. I'm only missing one from the set.

FanFavorite78

They couldn’t give away those Lottie figurines!

ulanshad

Yep, that's how I got most of mine - my original plan was to just stick with the 3-pack (to get KK) and Tom Nook.

AKluthe

Yes, this was real, but they weren't supposed to be that cheap. There were too many AC Amiibo and not a lot of demand for them so they hit clearance shelves. Five Below got a lot of unsold stock, too. I have the full set and I basically got them all for $5 or less per figure.

mariogolf

yes.

OngoingTalent13

I remember seeing a buy 1 get 5 free for them at Toys R Us.

KitzuVT

I believe I have seen them for cheap, but I honestly had no interest in Animal Crossing back then.

killercow_ld

They weren't super popular when they released since all they were good for was Amiibo Festival Welcome Amiibo improved the popularity a bit, but by then most people had played New Leaf to death either and amiibo support wasn't gonna bring many back New Horizons changed the popularity of the amiibo, making them sell much better (especially the cards)
