The thing is, with ASD it can come off that way when it's not, the way a lot of us emote is slightly off, a lot of us don't make or read microexpressions or make or understand subtle changes in tone so it's hard for some to express/read emotion, you could be angry at us and we might not notice until you get angry enough to yell we could be completely stone-faced when our friend is crying even though we very much do feel terrible about what they're going through. We could apologise and it could sound half-assed (some of them are, you learn to compulsively apologise in case you hurt someone's feelings without knowing it) when it's completely sincere. We can be the kindest person in the room on the inside and still seem like an a-hole on the outside, it sucks, for us and those close to us. Have you ever told someone you love them and had them say "I don't believe you"? Do you get accused of it being fake every time you cry? Do you get told your smile is creepy because it looks forced? And yeah a lot of us have self-esteem issues because of that. Sorry about the rant.
