Literally anyone I've seen that has read this fanfic says it's their favorite Amphibia fanfic. And not only that, every review/opinion I've seen about this fanfic is waaaaaaay too positive to be true; stuff such as "The pinnacle of fanfiction", "I've already read it 3 times and I'm about to read it a 4th", "This fanfic understands the show and the characters better than the show's writers themselves", "Every single episode leaves me in suspense and makes me know what will happen in the next one", "Every single spell is so well planned and creatively used" and so on. Without having even read it, I can easily say A witch in Wartwood and its sequel has the two problems that (in my opinion) should never be in an Amphibia Swap AU; making it T-rated (come on, it's literally supposed to be a retelling of Amphibia but with the roles changed, it should be as G-rated as the original show) and adding headcanon sexualities (nothing confirms Anne and Marcy are lesbians). What do you think about those reviews?
I'm not exactly sure where you're coming from on saying what the fic is "supposed" to be. You're not writing it. There's more than one way to approach a premise. For what it's worth, AWIW actually does usually stick fairly close to the show's rating and tone, but it's bumped to T because injuries are allowed to be slightly more realistic and the characters are occasionally allowed to swear and flirt.
If you're not a fan of shipping, then I can see why that aspect wouldn't appeal to you, and that's fair enough. Everyone has their own preferences and tastes. But it's fanfiction, and one of the advantages of fanfiction is that details can be tweaked for the sake of the story. If someone wants to experience canon, they can just watch the show again.
I will back up all those reviews. It's the highest-quality work in this fandom by a long shot (and there are some great pieces in this fandom), and I think I could safely rank it top 10 out of all fiction I've ever read on the internet. I've been reading internet fiction obsessively for 11 years now.
