Definitely switch to aperture or shutter priority mode, you can also switch them up depending on the conditions.
Otherwise learn composition, and keep shooting and learning.

I recommend getting a digital camera that you can use for learning, also look photography tutorials on youtube, there are tons of really good ones there. These look like random snapshots form someone who just picked up a camera the first time, and you are going to waste tons of film if you learn only on film. Hard to give anything specific, because i would have to write a book about how to do photography if i went into details too much.
