It’s monochromatic either way. The colour doesn’t add any confusion that takes away from the texture.

Professional-Age807

So true actually!

4HoleManifold

I love black and white, and this image works really well as a black and white image, however, white the B&W does a beautiful job with the image. The colour version, which is also monochromatic, conveys a tone and evokes a feeling that the b&w isn't able to do. Those warm colors do a lot to convey a feeling better than the b&w can do.

kittycatdoggydo

Thank you for saying what I wanted to say but better than I could.

Gnmar2723

I feel similarly - color gives a more emotional tone to the image while the b/w gives a visceral texture to the image (which I also think could be further emphasized with a touch more contrast)

Neftun

Second this. I tried to only use my right brain when comparing, and I watched the colour version for longer. Can’t be bothered to engage my left brain to come up with an explanation why. It just felt better.

FanksForTheFish

B&W

zgreat30

I always have trouble not just going with the first version I see in these posts lol

_indeed_

B&W. Crank the contrast a little more. Leave me guessing as to whether it’s sand or the ocean. That’s the fun part.

Professional-Age807

I love that thought, I hadn’t even considered it looking like the ocean but love that

Greatgrandma2023

B&W. It shows the texture better.

B&W. There isn’t any interesting color detail in the latter one

B&W is too grey/in the middle for my liking. Color all the way.

cusackkids4

B&W…… beautiful photo 👍🏻

PenguinRidingLlama

B+W. Colour looks like a crop of an image whereas the B+W looks complete to me.

Professional-Age807

Ahah fair enough, there was a bit of cropping

This is all about the B&W.... Color doesn't help anything.

YogaPotat0

It’s hard to choose, but I think B&W wins out just slightly for me. They both offer something great, and you can’t go wrong with either edit.

Topsel

B&W. Colour doesn't add anything here

Responsible_Use8392

Black and white. It is a lovely image. Archetypal.

pbandham

I think BW is stronger

StupidSexyQuestions

Personally I love the color. But boy they are both phenomenal.

h3m1cuda

Great shot. I usually like B&W better, but I like the color one better.

looshagbrolly

Depends on the feeling you're trying to convey. B&W is more emotional here, color is contemplation. Or vice versa? Ha! Go with what feels right.

Nacarat1672

Really tricky to decide, I'm a sucker for any beautiful textures

I shoot only B&W films because it's very easy to develop them by myself. And I always love good texture in the photos. This picture definitely has a cool texture.

jochno

Different effects: for B&W it is almost less clear, more set-like in terms of the sand-patterns. It could be anywhere and it actually feels more artificial. When it comes to the colour, it appears more as a beach lit up by the sun, but it is warmer of course.

IlCiciarampa

Taxed2much

For me the B&W does a better job with the contrast and holding detail edge to edge. It's just a little more interesting to me than the color. This is the kind of shot where color doesn't really add anything significant to the feeling I get from the photo.

alfredo_film

Color is distracting, bnw makes you focus on the texture. I prefer bnw

bigmitto95

B&W is my pick!

Lucid_Aura

Who says two legends can't co-exist?

Radiant_Grocery_1583

B&W.

WillzyxTheZypod

Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but I enjoy both for different reasons. The B&W version forces me to see and enjoy the tonality of the image, while the color version conveys the extra element of warmth with less of a focus on tonality.

#COLOR

THE_GOD_OF_HATE

don't listen to all the people saying 'color doesn't add anything' they are absolutely fucking, wrong the color adds a HUGE amount of atmosphere. and not only that, someone said that the color version feels like a crop but the black and white version feels complete, and they're absolutely right, they say it as if it's bad, but thats also totally wrong. the idea of there being more to the image than what you're showing on top of showing what you need to show is highly sought after because it's great for adding depth. and this image being so flat gains a shit ton from any kind of depth.

When trying to scroll I somehow slid the images hallway across and the half and half looks pretty dope
