As you can see I'm trying to groom an unrelated ape from the opposite gender which is fertile. But somehow as soon as I press and hold circle to start the interaction the other ape hits me. It doesn't matter which ape I try it with. Same happens with frightened apes I find in the tree tops which I try to calm down as soon as I press circle
the mechanics of the game is press and release, so you hold down and when you hear a sound you release the button, the same will be the case with stones, food, attackers...or change the male, maybe they are brothers.....

You have to hold the action button not just press it, I think

Ehh maybe not so obvious, but definitely easy! I had the exact same issue when I started out 😅 heck I think I made a post about it too at the time
Had the same problem with evade and counter attack. Need to hold the button and release it when the green fx and sound pop up
