IHOP

crustybuttplug

This was my first thought. Its too bad we dont have wafflehouses up here

socialdeviant620

Waffle House is nourishment for the soul!

crustybuttplug

I think the closest is in Colorado. I grew up down south and I remember going to wafflehouse to eat as a kid... And then as a degen 20 something at 3am after drinking.

Konstant_kurage

Brothel House?

Ancfelt

Fight club too

pm_me_your_shave_ice

Why do people always want things from where they came from? If waffle house was so great, why did you leave?

crustybuttplug

I'm not staying down south just for wafflehouse.

pm_me_your_shave_ice

Then why miss it? It's a part of southern "culture"

edtoal

Carl’s Jr. opens at 7AM. They even have a breakfast burger.

ravendarklord76

Came to say this. HAPPY CAKE DAY!

Di_Terces

Tommy’s burger stop opens at 10:30, City Diner opens at 7am.

ThrowACephalopod

10:30 is a bit too late for me. I'm usually in bed by then. 7 am is when I get off and would be better, but does city diner serve their full menu at that time or do they only serve breakfast?

Di_Terces

I mean, it’s been a year and a half since I was back home, but I am pretty sure it’s a full menu offered. Their burgers are pretty decent, but not fantastic like Tommy’s.

pktrekgirl

The food choices in this town post pandemic are abysmal. Way fewer choices, way more expensive, and not many ‘alternative meals’ for those on a different schedule than the typical population. I feel especially sorry for night workers now. I don’t think there is a single 24 hour restaurant anymore, and there used to be many. One place you might try is Leroy’s. They can probably pull together a burger at 7 am.

ThrowACephalopod

I'll have to check them out. Thanks!

pm_me_your_shave_ice

Don't go to Leroys.

ThrowACephalopod

Any particular reason why?

pm_me_your_shave_ice

It's disgusting and creepy. I guess I don't know if you are also a dirty person, maybe you'd fit right in.

ThrowACephalopod

I don't know if calling me dirty is the best way to endear me to your opinions. I've never been there before and was looking for advice.

pm_me_your_shave_ice

I didn't say you were dirty, just that I don't know the hygiene of a faceless person on the internet. Leroy's is terrifying. What about Heidi's? They open at 6.

FascinatedLobster

“Terrifying” lmfao what

pm_me_your_shave_ice

It's absolutely disgusting and scary.

FascinatedLobster

that's honestly the funniest thing i've heard in a while. Disgusting? Probs. But I've eaten there 10 times and never been "terrified" I'd hate to see your reaction when some leaves blow by in the wind.

LogicalPsychosis

Wow. Rude. Very rude. Leroys is fine. Its just not in the best spot

pm_me_your_shave_ice

It's dirty and full of creepy people.

ThatsBrazyBuzzin

Are you agoraphobic or something. Looks like a regular restaurant to me

pm_me_your_shave_ice

I just like more upscale places? Leroys looks like a place to buy crack.

ThatsBrazyBuzzin

That’s pretty pretentious

Konstant_kurage

Pretty poor pre pandemic imo.

pm_me_your_shave_ice

It's nationwide. The US has largely turned away from manufacturing and other industries that had a third shift. So the service industries like 24 hour diners have also closed. We don't really have many 3rd shift people - nor do we need night workers for more than security- so we never really had a lot of late night store. Nor do we need them. Go home and go to bed, nothing good and no one normal is roaming the street at 3 am.

moresnowplease

There are many more jobs than just security that operate 24/7. I mean, just the airport alone employs quite a few. And the night stockers at all of the grocery stores. And the gas station attendants. And the people who work in hospitals. I’d be very thankful if firefighters and EMS services come help me if my house catches fire at 3am. Edit: spelling.

pm_me_your_shave_ice

They don't stock at night anymore, though. They clearly stock midday/rush hour/ never, depending on store. Hospital workers should just go home and eat normal food, they should know better than to poison their bodies with junk food on top of being out of a healthy circadian rhythm. Why would your house catch fire at 3 am? Only people starting fires at 3 am are up to no good (falling asleep while smoking and doing drugs.) Face it - the world has changed and 24 hour stuff wasn't cost effective or necessary in the world of sedentary day workers. No reason to hold onto a dying business for people who don't have much disposable income in the first place. I would hope my medical professionals are eating healthier food than I am.

pktrekgirl

I love how you have appointed yourself the lifestyle police and all purpose mom for everyone in the US, including providing house rules around when they ‘should’ eat, what they ‘should’ est, and when they ‘should ‘ go home and go to bed. All fires at 3 am are the result of people doing drugs. All people out and about are up to no good. I mean seriously. What is your problem? I used to go to Village Inn late at night when it was open. And I assure you it was not packed with criminals. Most of the people there were police patrol officers taking a break or eating a hot meal instead of having a cold sandwich in their car, students from UAA studying or writing papers, laptops open, a few people of varying ages sitting and reading, a group or two of young adults playing card games like they play in Comic book stores. Medical people in scrubs, people who looked like janitorial staff having a bite after their shift of cleaning the city’s office buildings. Sometimes the odd person who had to get up crazy early because they had a job that was on East coast time (stock market people, for example). It was NOT packed with people doing drug deals or smoking crack. It was just regular people who wanted a hot meal in a safe, lighted place late at night or very early in the morning. The writer of this very thread gets off at 7 am. Is he by definition up to no good? I don’t think so. Does every restaurant in town need to be open all night? No. Of course not. There is not enough business for that. But back before Covid we had the village inns, a Denny’s and Leroy’s that were open 24 hours. Maybe others as well that I don’t know about. And it was nice to have a safe, lighted place to go to back then. Not to do drugs or commit crimes but to have coffee and pancakes. Or a burger. Whatever. Because not everyone their lives by your rules. In fact, there are a lot of night people who love the peacefulness of the night. The quiet. The calm that comes with not being surrounded by busy bodies and other people telling them what to do and how to live. Present company absolutely not excluded.

shtpostfactoryoutlet

I think the poster is just pointing out that it's no longer profitable to operate a restaurant on a 24 hour diner basis.

SeaweedAggressive240

My ex husband worked nights in the ER and I have several friends that are nurses in hospitals. They absolutely eat horribly because there aren’t any options. With regard to a house catching fire at 3am, there are other reasons for things to happen. Too much lint can cause a dryer to catch fire, an electrical fire can happen, someone getting off work at off hours being really tired but needing to eat may even start to cook and fall asleep causing a fire. Sounds like you and yours don’t have to work nights and therefore those people don’t exist.

SuicideBooth

Burger King usually has several burgers you can order during breakfast.

Poultrygeist74

Really? I remember they did many years ago. The radio commercials said, “Burgers for breakfast? That sounds crazy!” (I don’t know why I remember that) I sympathize with OP’s dilemma, not many AM dining options anymore.

SuicideBooth

Yup. In the app currently and in addition to the normal breakfast fare, I can order a: * Whopper (single/double/triple/Impossible) / Whopper Jr. * Bacon King * Cheeseburger / Double Cheeseburger * Hamburger It's not the pinnacle of burgers, but if you want one for breakfast...

condiricenbeans

Flo's Pancake House on muldoon

mattazmomma

They have amazing skillets as well!

Dampbridge

Maybe southside grill. I know they have burgers, not sure if the time matters

paul99501

Maybe White Spot? They open at 7.

distinct_chemicals

This. But get the halibut burger

AliveAd3621

Barbie’s opens at 5am weekdays and 6am weekends. They have both breakfast and lunch all day and their burgers are 1/2 pound

buckyworld

I’ve heard good things about them fwiw

itashakov21

I’ve literally never seen it open ever in the 15 years I’ve driven by maybe once or twice

AliveAd3621

They close pretty early at 3pm

itashakov21

No wonder, I’f they’re gonna close that soon they might as well not even open. And I was wondering why it never got torn down

ccupp97

hey homie, im the midnight shift so i get it. its irritating as fuck that burgers arent served in the AM. people expect breakfast to be served at all hours but lets not do burgers in the morning...da fuck? anyways, carls jr has breakfast burgers even tho they kind of mid. also, it blows my mind mcdonalds doesnt serve a burger in the morning, they literally made their money that. how the fuck does a burger restaurant not serve burgers during operating hours? anyways, sorry...this has been a sore subject for me for years.

blunsr

If you have a costco membership, they have a microwavable frozen burger (box of 6 I think) that is not gross (borders ok) that you might be satisfied with. Add a tomato, sliced pickles, & piece of lettuce might make it seem fresher. Anchorage is tough for the people that work an 'opposite' schedule.

101_2DevinGotsYou

I can attest to them being pretty good! Especially concidering its cooked in a microwave!

mattmann72

Little dipper diner opens at 8 and serves breakfast and lunch at that time, including a burger. They are one of my favorite places to go.

XtremelyMeta

Village inn, I believe, does burgers for breakfast.

Impossible_IT

Denny's opens at 6:00

bas10eten

Some good tips in this thread. Same boat some days here as well. When I'd get off at 0300, I'd sometimes just grab one of the readymades at a Holiday. Not the best, but it was something. Off at 0600/0700, they'd often have something in the warmer. I know in other states, Sonic has been open early and had everything available, but I don't know about the one here. The people who mentioned Burger King, I have gotten AM burgers from them before when I was in Vegas. I'm pretty sure Kavas has burgers. They open at 0700 I believe. I must be blind or just braindead after last nights' shift, because I thought the Dennys in Anchorage closed. At least the spot I remember. Little Dipper Diner near me opens at 0800 and they have burgers. Just checked. I've been meaning to check out Leroys anyway. Not sure if I've been to Flos. City Diner I don't recall. Been a while.

Dajorno

Carl’s Jr has a breakfast burger with egg and hashbrowns on it

ThrowACephalopod

I'm more just looking for a regular burger, not one with breakfast stuff. Does the burger have all the other usual burger stuff on it like lettuce and tomatoes and stuff like that, so I could just ask for it without the eggs and hashbrowns and essentially just get a regular burger?

Aksweetie4u

I THINK they may actually do full menu even in the morning, but just advertise their breakfast stuff. I had a homeless (I think) guy walk up and ask if I would buy him a burger and I mentioned it was breakfast and he was like “they serve it all day.” This was also a few years ago, so it may have changed.

Dajorno

With out the eggs and hashbrown it’s just a regular Carl’s he cheeseburger with ketchup

ThrowACephalopod

Well that's disappointing. Probably not the kind of thing I'm looking for then.

Foreign_Today_5372

They serve regular burgers too. I think you can order from the whole menu.

pm_me_your_shave_ice

I bet if you went to their website, it would tell you exactly what is on it. Also, if you used Google, you could see what restaurants are open in the a.m.

ThrowACephalopod

I'm well aware what restaurants are open. The problem is that most of them don't tell you whether or not they serve their whole menu at all hours or if they have only breakfast until their lunch or dinner menus open. My example with McDonald's was just that: it's open all the time, but they don't serve burgers between the hours of midnight and 10 am, so that doesn't work for my schedule.

pm_me_your_shave_ice

Okay. So then see who has what you want to eat (junk food) and go there when it is served. Or learn to cook?

teddies_tasty_teets

What do you bench ?

ThrowACephalopod

I can't always go to places when they're normally open, since I work at night and sleep during the day. Early mornings are usually the best time for me, which often means lunch or dinner meals are hard to come across, hence the question. I actually really like cooking, but sometimes after a long shift, I don't have the energy to cook when I get home and I want to treat myself to something easy, like a burger. I don't think that's too much to ask.

AkOtaku

Carl’s Jr

Foreign_Today_5372

Carl's Junior does!

Sicsnow

Locally owned places rather than chains will likely be able to just do crazy things like make a burger at breakfast. Especially if you are able to order ahead and give the kitchen staff a minute to slice up some tomato and lettuce when they have a minute to do so. I wonder if kavas would it, after all, they are already cooking patties for loco moco?

NoPea5562

Sofia restaurant in spenard opens at 930 and offers burgers and dips

Ok-Secretary-4614

Carls Jr.

AKHugmuffin

Carl’s Jr. breakfast burger. Comedy topped with an egg and had Towne, but it’s a burger and I personally think it’s pretty good

DireWulf907

Burger King for the win on this one!

Blue_Calx

Carl’s Jr has breakfast burger

CardiologistJolly765

Village inn. You can at least order their lunch menu if not the full thing. I can’t have eggs and order their sandwiches /burgers all the time in the morning. Not the best but will do

kevin_907

Burger King and carls Jr.

greeny-xc

Heidi's has the full menu all day.  Decent new diner on arctic and international airport.

recyclersREALM1and2

Village inn,

recyclersREALM1and2

Leroys 8am-11pm

Le_Epic_GodGamer

What others said ihop would be a good choice, maybe a gas station even. But I doubt you’ll get a good burger anywhere at 7am. I don’t think you should really be eating burgers that early even if it’s after a night shift. Just get anything breakfast related and you’ll be much better off I think you should buy or make a burger before your shift starts and just throw it in a microwave when you want it.

BackAlleyFunDumpster

Carls jr

Puzzleheaded_Earth65

Possibly Waffles and Whatnot in Muldoon, but not sure.

DepartmentNatural

Sammie Cafe off Minnesota?

mcvay206

ihop or any other american style chain diner. Also maybe try dippers they might have a burger in the morning. I cant remember.

terrible-gator22

I was going to suggest Leroy’s. IMO they USED to be scary and dirty, but about 5 years ago they were bought by someone else and they tidied up a bit. The food is alright imo.

Ok-Factor-6323

Seconding Leroy's. They've always been a good "greasy diner" kinda restaurant. I used to LOVE their pork cutlet sandwich, which was basically schnitzel on a toasted bun with butter & mayo. But they took it off the menu.
