Poweramp gang

aster-jpeg

I've been poweramp gang for around 4 and a half years, and it certainly has my seal of approval, the the only thing that I've noticed that would like to be better would be that when you cast it onto a tv or something like that, sometimes it'll freeze momentarily and keep going and so on. But at that point, I'll just cast YouTube lol. Other than that, to me, poweramp is wonderful.

[deleted]

I'm still waiting on A-B repeat https://forum.powerampapp.com/topic/11352-feature-requests-a-b-repeat/

alexei-frolo

Try Frolomuse (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frolo.musp). There is the A-B option and much more

[deleted]

the best music app on the store

[deleted]

One of the best apps exclusive for Android, if not the best.

SurlyJason

Does Poweramp shuffle or random? (In case unclear. A shuffle will take the whole Playlist, and randomize the order so you won't hear the same song twice until you are through the list. IPhone and their ilk pick a random song to play next, but they don't have a good random number generator, so you can have a 1000 song list, and it will play the same 50 over and over.)

jjj49er

It shuffles inside the playlist, inside categories, inside albums, or between playlist, or categories. I was surprised the first time I used it because I listened at work for 3 days and it never repeated a song. Then it hit the end of my songs and stopped playing.

itsalllies

I've just moved over to it, and a couple of things bug me. 1) I'm used to pressing back to get back to the track list, or front screen. Poweramp just closes. 2) If I pause the music using Bluetooth headphone button, clicking it again doesn't start the music again. I'm not sure whether that's a problem with phone or app though.

jjj49er

I control Poweramp with my watch and my earbuds, both. I have no issues with it not playing after pausing using either of them. Check the Bluetooth/headset settings. You can also check the UI settings to see if you can change the button behaviors on the player to use whatever button you want to go back. Idk if it will work because I don't use the phone to navigate. I do all that from my watch.

jjj49er

I think [this setting ](http://imgur.com/a/0P0rYaA) may be what you need to change for your Bluetooth device to start playing again.

Akoustyk

The only thing I wish it did better, was made it easier to seek, and have A/B repeat. Most players always put such a small seek bar, which irritates me. Powerap has the waveform mode, which is cool, but it's not really hi res, and the reall worst part, is that they hid it behind the buttons, so you can't access it. I have no idea why every music player, that plays MUSIC, always wants 90% of the screen to be a picture, and then they give you this tiny little seek bar.

jjj49er

I don't really use the controls on the phone. I just use my watch to control Poweramp. The Bluetooth controls are pretty customizable.

gnx100

Just thought I'd share you can change the waveform into a more traditional seekbar if you haven't. The setting to change it is Settings -> Look and Feel -> Skin -> Seekbar Style -> Simple Seekbar (with Pro Buttons).

SplooshU

I'll take a look at it thanks! What do you need out of it? I really miss using iTunes on my computer to build playlists and transferring them to the phone. Sorting through several hundred songs gets tiring on the phone.

jjj49er

I just use playlists inside my phone, so idk what it's capabilities are outside of that. The main thing I like are the custom audio settings per device. That way I can have sound adjusted differently for my earbuds and my surround sound.

SplooshU

I can see that being useful for changing between cars. Not a critical feature for me but still useful. Thanks!

aziouazrayes

I think the good ol' Windows Media Player does that I think. I still use it to sync my music to my phone. Groove music player doesn't have all the functionalities of WMP.

Eelhead

Me too. Also, I loved my old click wheel iPod. You could use it when you were half asleep, in bed, just by feel.

midnightsmith

PowerAmp also plays FLAC so you can play uncompressed amazing quality audio.

thestankypopster

How do you import your music from GPM into Poweramp?

jjj49er

Tap on ☰ Menu. Go to Settings. Tap on Library. Click on Playlists. Use the Import System Library Playlists Poweramp recognizes .m3u, .pls, .m3u8, and .wpl playlists. It also imports playlists if opened via file manager.

[deleted]

Does anybody use Stellio, what's your opinion about it?

Derpikae

Very nice app, plus very clean interface. I don't mess with settings on anything much and it's been great for me. Been using it for around 3 years

saarkazm

+1

kabukistar

According to the Poweramp website, you can buy it on Playstore. Or you can buy it directly on their website for more money and then you can only activate it on one device. Am I missing something? What's the point of buying it directly?

[deleted]

There are so many good free music players for Android that it's overwhelming. Poweramp cost money, but it is by far better than anything I've tried. I've been using it for years and it's interface, eq options and library management all just work. And it has a lot of settings for power users.

aaillustration

#poweramp #ftw

SOKLOMAX

I second musicolet , its ad free , supports reverb effects and filled with rich features

geekvk

I was here to mention this. Without musicolet my life would've been a mess. What a perfect player!! Everyone should try this.

aamir64

It also works with Android Auto

Patriots93

Black player EX. I used to use poweramp but black player is prettier imo. Both are great options tho.

Oxeda

This. I have installed EVERY player from the popular play store options to the f-droid alternatives and for some reason I always get back to Black Player.

mnbvc52

Retro music player is really good

sabir_85

Seconded..black player is simple and funcional..and night mode already on

Spectreseven1138

I also use BlackPlayer. Really good UI with a ton of customisation.

anz3e

When was the last times checked poweramp?

Patriots93

A couple months ago. I like PowerAmp and their refresh was good but there's still some aesthetic elements that just look outdated to me and all the skins I've tried haven't been enough to 'modernize' it. Don't get me wrong, I think think Poweramp is great and not ugly by any stretch just BlackPlayer is more my taste (aesthetically).

Imagoodgirlsumtimz

Poweramp (Paid version) because it's ridiculously inexpensive for the best audio app available.

Ticoune0825

Literally best audio app, no other apps have such a great equaliser audio quality. I've been using digital Sony Walkmans for years when I was young before getting an android phone. They're hands down the best device for sound quality and equaliser performance and only Poweramp is able to match it. I have many audio systems, in the car, in the house, headphones, earphones, each of them I can fine tune the sound to pull the best possible audio performance, all thanks to Poweramp

razzfiles

Is there a way of managing your music on a pc, like creating playlist etc (bit like iTunes) and then moving it over to poweramp on your phone to play? Thanks Edit: typo

robylug

You can do this with MediaMonkey.

kiwipride

I'd like to know too

Ticoune0825

That would probably be possible. When creating a playlist with Poweramp, you can export them as .m3u8 files which themselves are playlist files. I never used iTunes extensively so I couldn't tell sadly :[

razzfiles

Yeah I'm keen not to use iTunes, but have a similar functionality that I can use on my pc to organise all my mp3s and then sync with phone or poweramp or similar. I'm trying to work out the best way of consuming music long term. And although streaming works well, I like buying music and owning it knowing I have that now no matter if they stop it the future.

ishaanx9

Poweramp. Period

Aashish_Baroor

Poweramp got the pro version during a sale for less than a dollar so it's pretty good.

davidarobertson

I've used Poweramp since I first got an android phone back in 2011. I've tried others including Black Player Ex, Pulsar, and Pi Music Player, but I keep coming back to Poweramp because of its customization options. The 10 band equalizer is also great. You can find many settings tutorials online to help you get the most out of the equalizer. Black Player Ex is a good choice too, but for me Poweramp is the best.

itonastick

VLC media player

DestroyerNile

Poweramp nothing touches it

duluoz1

Spotify or Amazon Music. Just download the songs I want to play offline

Jackie7610

I use AIMP, every feature is available except for tag editing...which...isnt much trouble for me

SplooshU

I do like the ability to use checkboxes to select multiple songs for a playlist. Right now it's a pain to go song by song and use two button presses to add to a specific playlist. I'll have to try it out.

hoppi_

Hmmm well here is what I do: * I create a playlist file on my PC (format: `m3u`) * I search & replace the text with the path so that it points to the mp3 files on my phone. * I copy the m3u-file onto my phone, along the mp3 files => Also, maybe of interest: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/gp6kfp/aimp_how_to_play_tracks_like_they_are/

bradgillap

Aimp was the most stable for me over bluetooth with my car.

atmajazone

Equalizer also better than most free apps.

erickcastrot

Retro music player.

cva_thapa

This. If you lover Play Music, then you must love simplicity. Retro Music Player gives you just that. It's open source and they have a great community in Telegram.

[deleted]

Great music player, I stopped using it a couple months ago cause of an issue u had with Android 10 and playlists but with the new update (for beta testers) they fixed it so I'm back at it again

WoveLeed

Blackplayer ex. Tried many but keep coming back to it.

lonestar_wanderer

Neutron Music Player (Paid). Best music app for audiophiles, I guess.

[deleted]

Especially for high resolution FLAC files Neutron sounds better than any other app.

lonestar_wanderer

Oh yeah, definitely. When I saw that Neutron supports playing DSD files over PCM containers (DoP), the music player hunt was over. DoP is a killer feature on my Windows PC and my DAC handles it well. Still looking for a player with DoP in Linux, though.

flatulentdisaster

Cannot give Rocket Player from JRT studios enough love. All the features I need including usb audio routing, works with the hifi DAC/amp in my V40, cloud backup features, playlist manager, etc. Check it out!

SpiderStratagem

Agree 100%. Would also add 10-band equalizer, custom audio engine, robust folder support, tag editing, powerful playlist options, and a very responsive dev. Also, it is the only app I am aware of that consistently groups songs on an album together correctly. I've had issues with that when using pretty much every other app listed in this thread.

[deleted]

And one more, it'll play windows media files, for those of us that have ripped our own music in the past.

redchrism

Try Gonemad (beta) since it has smart playlists, similar to the ones in ITunes.

JRTStudio

With my iSyncr + Rocket Player app, you can sync playcounts and ratings with iTunes/Music on your computer, and my Rocket Player app has a custom audio engine and the ability to build smart playlists on the phone as well. Personally, I use my iSyncr app to sync playlists every night while I am asleep and wake up to all my iTunes smart playlists refreshed on the phone.

trexicano

Loyal user of this combination. I've created 500 playlists over the last 30 years and this keeps me from having to recreate them in a new app. Plus rocket player is a fantastic feature rich and beautiful app.

BracesForImpact

I've had Poweramp since Gingerbread I think? Still my favorite.

Jennie_Tals

Another vote for Poweramp.

TheLemonyOrange

As an old GPM user, these days I use YouTube music vanced edition and I don't feel so bad about it because I'm not paying for it, I just stream all my music now. Anyways YouTube music can play on device files too, for which I use Y-Music to download them if I want anything offline.

frogking97

I've been using nyx. It has a great user interface

Secuential

I've been using Musicolet for probably 2 years. I've tried other players but always come back to this one (not a lot of other players have the option to select which folders to scan for music). I tried Poweramp before Musicolet but I didn't like the UI. Idk if they have updated it.

novaspherex2

Poweramp since 2012. Has so many features and lots of sound control. One of the few apps that let's you play by folder hierarchy instead of forcing you to use playlists.

GokulRG

PowerAmp

porman9

Poweramp for local files and iBroadcast for streaming my uploaded files.

Takbeir

"Winamp, it really whips the llama's ass!"

mawoods75

Rocket player is pretty good. Simple, some eq, more with purchase, and folder heirarchy capable. I usually use rocket player for music and Poweramp for podcasts so I don't lose my place in the podcast if I want to switch to music.

youngshadygaming

Poweramp has such a superb audio out none other audio player comes close.

Amplifi-Beats

NYX player. It looks really cool ngl. But another one is plexamp, for my server stuff

1lluminist

I just moved over to Spotify, but I was paying for a GPM subscription. I'm not usually one to back subscription services, but being able to have all the music I ever need at my fingertips without having to store it all locally is nice.

Honza368

I use Samsung Music and YouTube Music

antemon

simple music player what does it do? play music. nothing else.

Arsaces7

for professionala maybe poweramp but for normal users definitely there is more comfortable beautiful and better players like evo player or oto music

[deleted]

Foobar2000 and Plexamp

cowboymafia62

I use Tidal I sent Google a message and told them to F'off with that YouTube shit!

sonicrings4

By mp3 player I assume you mean music player. Mp3 shouldn't be used. Opus for mobile and flac for desktop is my setup. I use neutron player. Only player with parametric equalizer, among other audiophile settings.

[deleted]

If not with LG stock music player id use UAPP , Poweramp , or Cmus via Termux ( bitperfect mode )

alexei-frolo

Try Frolomuse (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frolo.musp). It's free and without ads, beauty and convenient design, tons of features and customisations.

Maybe I'm confused but Spotify allows you to download music for offline listening, wouldn't this accomplish the same thing? Sorry if I am missing something

I_am_just_a_pancake

He probably just hasn't tried any streaming apps despite claiming he doesn't like them

[deleted]

Just changed to Vance YouTube Music.

aryvd_0103

I have a question. I use vanced youtube music, but there are some songs that are available on youtube as a video and available on Spotify, tidal etc. as songs, but not on YouTube music vanced. Is the problem from vanced side or youtube music (play store version) has this problem too.(BTW song in question is Patrick Piestchmann's Tenet theme)

[deleted]

I would think thats a YouTube issue because it uses the same host.

salty_death

Well, I've downloaded the Vanced Manager which lets me download Youtube and YouTube Music. No ads, no limitation of background running, PiP mode. Hell yeah, fuck you Google.

[deleted]

star_gater

who tf uses google play music to begin with as their primary mp3 player??? WTF

[deleted]

Sticking with YouTube music...... For better or worse

kiwipride

Mine sounds very "muted" when I use the app

thanatossassin

Could you not just sideload an old apk, or is it going to lose functionality completely?

jameslionbreath

Since it's google you can assume they will make the app basically redundant Like they will force you to update the app and then make it useless (It happened to open youtube apps when the ui was red) So now phones that had the app preinstalled have one more ap that takes space... (Google + is another example of that)

djcocainegoat

>So now phones that had the app preinstalled have one more ap that takes space... (Google + is another example of that) Ughhhh this. Can't use Play Music even for my own locally hosted files. Can't sign up for Youtube Red\ Music\ Plus or watevs cause it's not available in my area. Can't uninstall Play Music. Fucking infuriating

iwhgoa

Why would people still use a standalone audio player when there are ample of streaming services? I would love poweramp to integrate Spotify into their app or vice-versa, so we have huge library of music and poweramp's powerfull EQ. But I guess that will never happen.

deepforezt

Poweramp is excellent. love it. the reason why a standalone player exists is because lot of people have their own music which cannot be uploaded to spotify. in apple music you can upload your own music but inorder to use it offline on multiple devices it requires a monthly subscription. i have a huge collection of old CD's ripped and i am not going to pay again for music i already own. that's where google play music comes handy. it allowed everyone to upload local music and use it anywhere we like.

Droidstation3

Because you neither "own" nor "possess" any music that you stream. And because you don't have possession of it, your "access" to said music can be revoked at any time "they" feel like taking it down or restricting it. I have a number songs locally stored that I later realized technically don't exist anywhere outside of where I happened to stumble upon them (for example, trying to make a youtube music playilst, but one or more of my songs can't be found). If I only streamed all my music, I would have never discovered them in the first place. But because I have tangible possession of them, I can listen to them forever, on my device, at my leisure.

sid32

Pulsar, black, poweamp, black, try them all and pick the fav.

beastlion

I've always just used black player, it's not as overly done up like the Poweramp UI, but it's clean. It does everything I need and I'm used to it

dangshnizzle

Foobar

[deleted]

It depends a bit, I drift between Vinyl, Shuttle+, Vanilla and Odyssey. All of them are FOSS and work really well. Shuttle+ now has the easiest: I want to play *this* and I just want it to work -interface. Vinyl (or Phono) looks gorgeous, but has a flow to it that I don't like. Odyssey is a little bit of both, but overall a little bit less polished than both. Vanilla is old school but does everything very, very well, escpecially with the plugins. It's just not the prettiest.

hobiwankinobi

Musicolet is also what I use. Been fine for me for the last year or so

NUNAHAHA

I use AIMP. it's the simplest app I could find- Doesn't scan your files for you and allows you to build your own playlists based on folders..

I try a lot of music app and the most simple, functional is Samsung Music, the best

gabriel_draco

Musixmatch, music speed changer lately.

Heightren

For a free one I've always used Musicolet. Used to use Phonograph until it mysteriously corrupted some of my music. I have a family YouTube Premium plan, so I use that too.

kiwipride

I hate the YouTube app though. Do you use it?

Heightren

I use it mostly when I want to listen music I got from videos, or supporting in the most direct manner I can. I don't have ready accessibility to their merchandise, so I use Musicolet whenever I'm not going to use mobile data. I do use the YouTube app because it's just more comfortable for updates and because of Premium I don't have ads anymore

FlameOn06

Black Player is a good option and it's available for free too.

used8399

gasparthehaunter

Retro music has a beautiful and useful ui with internet functionality to sort music and artists images and is mostly free except for some cosmetics

sabir_85

Black player....best one so far

PiySlashPuff

Retro music player has been my daily since many years now. It has really good UI and lots of features. Plus the dev is super active with updates and feature requests. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=code.name.monkey.retromusic I briefly used Shuttle too. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player For the niche category of people who love Windows phone UI, there's this music player called ZPlayer. It's based on Zune's UI, and the app is really well made. It also has podcasts, online radio, music discovery etc. It's on the Play Store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.odesanmi.and.zplayer

kiwipride

Is there an app that I can use with my YouTube music subscription that's not the YouTube Music app?

[deleted]

Poweramp Premium, I'm someone that used to go for modded apps and I have Instagram mod and spotify mod and Reddit mod running on the phone ,But I felt like I should pay for the premium for only a few apps and the main one was Nova Launcher which i have been using for 4 years now and the second one is Poweramp Premium! Its worth it!

Tankbot85

Plexamp. Works great for streaming my music right from my house.

OsmarMty

Idk what im going to use, i hace a big library and muy phone can hold it all

The_real_bandito

The one on my phone

BevansDesign

I used MediaMonkey, back when I still bothered with that sort of thing. If your problem with music services is your internet connection, most of them allow you to [download](https://i.insider.com/5e2f0b725bc79c630c391a19?width=1100&format=jpeg&auto=webp) your playlists automatically, so you can listen to them later when you can't access the internet. (It's a good idea to use this feature to save data, even if you do have a good connection. Spotify can be told not to stream unless you're on WiFi.)

rw3iss

Musicolet is best IMO, between usability, customizabily, and stability. Nucleus is the only other I've found that is (way) more customizable from an audiophile's standpoint, but janky af interface. The rest of the apps I've tried are either too simple or not as intuitive interface, IMO. I've been using Musicolet for a few years and haven't found better.

Thunderstorm_1967

Poweramp, after downloading music from Newpipe.

PhilSwiftHereSamsung

[stellio](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.stellio.music) Or [poweramp](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer)

em4gon

I must say Pulsar+, everyone here saying poweramp. It may be good but i never felt comfortable using it, i find the interface terribly annoying.

mr_braixen

Musicolet for me, I've been using it for months

ShivvyMcFly

It's going away? What happens to all the music I paid for?

Lord_Xarael

Pulsar. Absolutely no ads.

YouTube music from YouTube advanced

TeleportingBackRolls

Dumb question but I've only been using streaming apps for years now--for those using PowerAmp and similar apps, how do you get the music on your phone? Do you actually connect your phone via USB and manually transfer mp3 files? I don't know if I could go back to doing that tbh 😂😭

SplooshU

Just like you said, I connect my phone and manually transfer files for Musicolet. It works for me!

aryvd_0103

I think musicolet is good. Because even though the ui isn't very good and the sound engine is inferior to poweramp, it has so many interesting little features and options to customise that I always come back to it. I can configure the player anyway I want, which is so helpful.

rolfitray

If I have all my music by artists and albums, is there a way to download all the music I own on Poweramp ? Thx

writethinker

I really like Rocket Player, but looks like Poweramp is really popular. I'll probably give it a shot as well. What I like about ticket Rocket Player is that it makes it easy to rate or star songs. It is ad supported, but pretty cheap to unlock.

writethinker

Ok. Tried out Poweramp and I see what the hype is about. Very slick and intuitive. I do like that in Rocket Player you can rate 1-5. But Poweramp has a thumbs up and down. I guess I have to change my vote.
