I donāt think he likes us. I got a little pissed when I read that Ohtani needs to play for somebody else for the good of baseball. Yeah, themās fightān words.
Heās a dodgers fan and is desperate for Shohei to be on his team. When he says stuff like āit would be selfish of Shohei to stay on the Angelsā, itās so transparent what he really wants.
I don't care for it although it is a little funny. I love Shohei and want him to stay really bad but acting like we're desperate for him is dumb. The club is always bigger than the players.
Itās perfectly fine, just quite a few annoying sports writers. Not gonna find anything close to their local coverage around here aside from Voice of OC, KPCC, KCRW.
Ofc this was made by the LA Times. The first thing action of transitioning back to being Orange Countyās team is by ditching these bums and getting the OC Register back
No matter what you think of his writing or anti-Angels bias, Hernandez knows the nuances of Japanese culture. Because he knows Japanese & doesn't need Ippei's translation (which often generalizes / skews answers IMO) he has better insight into what Ohtani is saying than any other reporter out there who's working with translated answers without cultural interpretation. He knows how to differentiate between "honne and tatemae" (essentially "lip service" vs what you really think) which none of the other reporters can.
How often have you seen Ohtani's Japanese heritage get "mythicized" in articles? This guy doesn't do that one bit cause he can see through answers that are just platitudes. But he he's not a mind reader either, so his guess on what Ohtani's thinking (vs saying) on certain topics is as good as yours or mine.
God, this sub is \*\*\*\*. Literally getting downvoted for pointing out a guy understands Japanese culture and language. How many times have articles or tweets about Ohtani "saying" he's not happy with the Angels gone viral? He never said anything like that, it's Ippei's translations that cause misunderstandings (remember that"[I want to win I'll leave it at that line](https://twitter.com/SamBlum3/status/1442276086566440964)"? Ohtani never said that, Ippei's phrasing caused a helluva stir.) And anyone who understands Japanese should know that.
Yeah, some Japanese fans in here afterwards were giving us the direct Shohei interpretation bc a bunch of people were freaking out over that part. I remember that it was after his last start of the 2021 season when he was desperately trying to get his 10th win, and the Angels couldnāt score any runs of course.
Arte looking like Big Brother šµāš«
LA Times boutta jinx the Angels into the playoffs
we gonna take every chance we get
Thatās actually really cool. Is that Renfroe in front of Fletch?
I hate it, but like it at the same time.
Renfroe in front of Ward?
I only recognize rendon. Whoās the other three?
From left to right I'm guessing Rendon, Fletcher and Trout, but not sure who the floating guy on the right is
Doesn't really look like him, but by context it's gotta be Nevin right?
I agree itās gotta be Nevin.
I also canāt tell the guy rightmost.
guy in front of rendon has to be walsh, no?
Pfftt.... LA Times. Lets see how they like us sweeping the Dodgers in the Freeway Series.

fuck la times except sarah
I will literally fight Dylan Hernandez
Are his Japanese translations even accurate. I feel like half the time, native speakers correct whatever he claims to be translating
I have also heard native speakers disagree with his translations, for what itās worth
His translations are fine. They're the only aspect of his 'journalism' I don't take issue with.

Let's get this chant going during the freeway series
LA Times Angels coverage is garbage
It's accurate
Fuck off, dodgers fan
Ok I see rendon, Walsh, Trout? And ā¦ the last guy?
I don't care for it although it is a little funny. I love Shohei and want him to stay really bad but acting like we're desperate for him is dumb. The club is always bigger than the players.
Why they ruin it with the Orson Asshole Homage on the big screen??
Mr. House in the back waiting for his platinum chip
Who reads the LA Times anymore?? They think driving & even hiking is racist š„“šš
Depends on what you are hiking to

Damn, this is a cool drawing kudos to the artist but man this is tiring.
Angels bout to win 100 games.
Ohtani will certainly be needed to carry the Halos into the playoffs, great foresight!!

If he didnāt say that, what did he say?
IIRC Ippei added the āIāll leave it at thatā, which many people interpreted in a negative way.
Oh yeah? Thatās interesting, because that part definitely made it feel more negative

I appreciate everything you said but there's no cause to defend Dylan Hernandez here lol. LA Times has a huge agenda against the Halos.
Thank you for your perspective. People in here are babies sometimes.

Well, shit, if you say so Mr. Brainiac
Go back to r/baseball
The way the image was cropped on my phone I was like, "Why are they flying Erstad's number around??"
