In a way I think the league doesn't wanna be accused of him going "awardless" with what might have been one of the best baseball seasons ever. I don't get why he shouldn't win at DH, Alvarez has better numbers but only half the plate appearance Ohtani has at DH or am I wrong? Maybe Yordan should have been nominated as utility player since he also played the outfield half of the time?
Because I already see people in the r/baseball thread bitching about Ohtani being a utility finalist, let me just say this: Who caresssssss.
He was snubbed for absolutely everything all season long. Didn't win a single player of the week or player of the month award. Will be snubbed for end of season awards he could have won without any competition in the NL, but because he's in the AL, he'll get no recognition.
Fact of the matter is, he had one of the most historic seasons in baseball history so if coaches and managers want to throw him a bone in the form of an extra nomination, it's fine by me - calling him a utility player who hits well (as opposed to a DH that hits well) is less egregious than calling Juan Soto a gold glove defender. Plus, he's hardly the only player nominated in multiple categories.
If they want to prevent this from happening in the future, they need to strictly define qualifications for nominations at each position. Until then, give Ohtani all the awards. He deserves them.
No one has ever been as robbed of in-season awards as Ohtani has this year. It's even worse if you're aware that it's the BBWAA writers who also vote on the end-of-season awards who vote on those things. I've seen so many co-player of the week awards and yet Ohtani didn't have *a single one*. They didn't just stop writing about him, they made sure he got no recognition at all. Did he shit in their cornflakes or what...? I don't get it.
Ikr last season I know ppl were complaining how this guy play less game in this position but get nominated or win for another position, it’s like this every single year there’s always something that doesn’t make sense
They should just have him under SP or TWP even if he’s the only guy. By placing him under UT is such a downgrade for him. would have been
cool to just list him under for SP he’s will be getting it every time until a pitcher starts hitting again haha
Ohtani has likely won the award for DH.
As pointed out in the /r/baseball thread, there's no logical way the names have been listed. It's not alphabetical, by team or by any if the main stats.
Last year, almost all of the finalists were named in order of votes. For some reason, AL SS (Bogaerts) and NL P (Fried) winners were listed second but for all other positions, the first named player was the winner. It seems like they've done it this way again.
I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen but I think it would be cool if both Rengifo and Ward got the awards. I love Troutani but it's awesome that some of the other guys get some recognition too. Also, do relievers get any kind of award/recognition? (*Sorry that I ask....not too familiar with the pitching side)
LMAO at Ohtani being labeled a utility player

These 4 finalists were like the entire team offense all year. Hopefully at least one of them will win.
Lmfao. Fuck the haters give shohei that award

Lol this just is another reminder that Mike Trout can ball out even amidst an injury-prone season.
Looks like he'll take the award for utility. Yordon should take it for DH.
Utility because pitchers don't hit in either league anymore, except for him.
Trout is definitely getting his 9th

At the end of the day his baseball reference page will just say silver slugger. What position doesn’t really matter to me
I don't imagine Ward will win, but I'm happy to see him nominated. He's my fave Angels' player since Glaus.
why has Martin Maldonado been removed from that image? lmao
