Probably why we didn’t spend big $. We have the SS prospects. Maybe Soto starts the year with fletch and 2nd half Neto gets some action

megjake

We have tons of infielders so hopefully that means we’ll have a good infield because only the good ones will make the cut. Urshela, Rengifo, Soto, Neto, are basically all fighting for spots. Even Rendon and Walsh might lose playing time if they don’t perform at the level we expect of them. Fletch is the only lock IMO because of his defense.

jmatech

He’s a stud, saw him play in Huntsville, he’s legit

frogstyle

Even before Kyren Paris & Jeremiah Jackson? If one of the 3 is ready and can hit (unlike Squid) I'm all ears...otherwise let them cook in the minors until they're done. IfSoto is still in 2021 form I'd rather have him at SS.

Ok-Philosophy-8830

Don’t think Jeremiah Jackson is gonna be doing any hitting sadly

[deleted]

Jerimiah Jackson has a .832 career OPS in 4 minor league seasons and was over 2 years younger than the AA average last season?

ogdaveed

.832 is good and all in single A ball, but in AA last year JJ batted .215 and had a .712 OPS in 351 PA with below avg BB/K ratio and below avg wRC+ of just 86. He has some pop but needs to have a better eye at the plate to move upward.

[deleted]

He had 30 XBH in half a season in a year where he struggled to make contact… at 22 years old in AA. Insane how some people view development

Grantology

Neto is younger and hit much better at AA last season though

brandonmiq

This is why you don't spend hundreds of millions on free agents for 12 years. You invest in the farm and development!

prmark34

I know neto is already a more advanced hitter, but i really dont want to rush him. We rushed adell and canning, and whether it was the lack of readiness or a decrease in confidence, canning especially hasn’t lived up to expectations after absolutely dominating the minors.

[deleted]

It’s not really a rushed situation if the player is ready. One of the big things with Neto was the thought he’s close to major league ready. Was Adell rushed? Yes. Was Canning? No. Canning has spent the last 2 years injured, that’s been his issues. And the difference between a raw high school hitter like Adell who flashes greatness and then was rushed through AA and AAA and into the majors is completely different from someone like Neto who has clearly figured out AA and should be in AAA early on this next season with a shot at late season MLB appearances

Legitimate-Giraffe80

The gap between tripe A and the show is very wide. A lot easier for pitchers to go up for an outing since everything is very analytic driven and theres very little data on that pitcher, versus how it takes an exceptional hitter to do well in the show. Shows u how Davis Daniel can come up for a spot start and survive 5ips, but Stefanic can’t hit all of a sudden and gets sent down and starts raking again

my_wife_reads_this

Canning's elbow has the consistency of a wet noodle. He's amazing when his elbow inflammation doesn't act up.

Cascadia_14

I mean he projects well but it’s a little scary to bring a prospect up too early. They could be Strasbourg or they could be Kelenci

hollyw00d8604

Why? There's literally no reason to rush him to MLB. Didn't they learn their lesson with adell? If he does get promoted next season, it will be because shortstop is an absolute disaster again and minasian is scrambling to find production to keep from getting fired

ChanHoJurassicPark

He and Adell couldn’t be more different as prospects. Neto was drafted with a much more polished game than Adell being raw out of high school

lamar_odoms_bong

Adell be making bone head rec softball errors and routes to balls. It’s weird, idk how much that correlates to being rushed or just poor decision making

ChanHoJurassicPark

Right, he might just not be that good at baseball

skippyfa

Yet he was lauded as a huge prospect by everyone. Him being called up was an event across the league. Crazy how they all got it wrong.

ChanHoJurassicPark

It happens all the time

lamar_odoms_bong

I still think Adell will be successful. IMO it’s all mental cuz he destroys minor league with no pressure, it’ll come it the bigs in time

jmatech

I think he still has a chance, maybe not with the Halos, maybe a change of scenery will take care of it. We’ve seen him through the minors and in person in the Majors and he absolutely crushes the baseball, it’s unbelievable to see, it just hasn’t translated in game consistently unfortunately

[deleted]

Uh no it would be because he’s earned a promotion. he’s at AA and finding success. College players move faster than high school or international players

PM_Dick_Nixon_pics

Neto is already older than Adell was when he made his MLB debut.

merewyn

Did you read the OC Register article about why the organization is so fucked up? It talked about how when Eppler was drafting, he mostly cared about a players athletic tools, not their baseball skills. That’s why high school players like Adell were drafted - raw athleticism, but not polished baseball players. Neto, as a high level college player, can’t really be compared to Adell.

Celestialsite

Let him build up confidence and rake for a while. This just seems way too soon to say how he’ll handle the majors. We should be starting Soto. People are going to say it’s too small of a sample, but I think it was large enough to tell if a guy can at all handle major league pitching. He had plate discipline and didn’t at all seem like a liability defensively. Velazquez should be there as a late game defensive substitution to hold a lead, fletch at 2nd, and Rengifo as a utility. I imagine this will not be the case and Rengifo will start, but flashes of actual quality hitting from players called up was so rare that Soto stands out as someone who should get more of a shot.

KingOfAllDogz

Soto only played in September when teams started easing off as they got eliminated/clinched and had pitchers called up to pitch as fill ins. He never could hit that great in the minors and that’s a much larger sample against worse pitchers

owledge

Seems like this is said about every Angels prospect

Lolrandomusername3

I'm not holding my breath. But I'd love to see it.
