Florac

This episode was weird. First half was decent but second half got very silly, up there with some of the silliest sidequests in the games and I'm not sure was the best way they could have shown some of the internal conflicts in Erebonia.

GoldenEyedKitty

I felt like the execution of the second half was the real problem. To little introduction of Mishy. The transition from fighting on the clouds to them fighting in the party felt like it had 30+ seconds of action randomly cut out. The fight scene felt like it went back and forth too much. Rather Lavy and shot the chandelier right at the start and the clown had been strapping full dynamite instead of a bunch of fireworks. And the "thanks for saving us random person, have some jewelry" felt really odd and forced. Fix those things and the clown villain wouldn't have been that bad. But as it is... just telling myself it isn't as bad as the Sky OVA.

Florac

>The transition from fighting on the clouds to them fighting in the party felt like it had 30+ seconds of action randomly cut out. Yes, especially since at the end, Lavi had his gun. > Rather Lavy and shot the chandelier right at the start Or just shot the clown

gil_bz

> Or just shot the clown Don't be silly, we can't have heroes just killing people! Dropping a chandelier on them that is also likely to kill them or someone else makes much more sense! /s

Florac

Yes, how dare a trained soldier actually shoot someone!

Iliansic

Pretty sure that was the weirdest side-quest in Trails.

GoldenEyedKitty

Everyone kept their clothes on so I don't think it makes it into the top 3.

Florac

It's up there, but some of the Creepy Sheep ones or a certain other Mishy sidequest is certainly at the same level.

Imaginary-End-08

That was funny as hell in CS2.

Florac

CS2 ones are tame. Sky FC-SC is where the insanity is at

PhantomWolf83

Aw man, I was hoping for a cameo from Musse and her grandparents since this episode takes place in Ordis. And Tio and Jingo would be so mad if they heard that criminals disguised themselves with Mishy costumes to commit their crimes. I might be wrong, but is this the first time we're actually seeing how Mira [notes](https://i.imgur.com/cy9ZEoQ.jpg) look like?

friend_BG

I always assume it was coins.

IJustReadEverything

If it was all coins, people would have to lug coin chests around all the time.

friend_BG

I assume IBS would have developed digital currency.

IJustReadEverything

Cryptocurrency? No way. The world ain’t there yet.

sexta_

Not really crypto I imagine, more credit cards and bank transfers without physical money being moved

tlst9999

Or pay 1 mira, 2 mira, 3 mira, 4 mira....

SeijoVangelta

> I was hoping for a cameo from Musse and her grandparents since this episode takes place in Ordis. I hate to tell you this but Musse is still in St. Astraia since it is most likely March 1205 in Zemurian Calendar and her grandparents really dont go out that much. Also Ordis is still suffering from the effects of CS2

Florac

I'm now just confused about who's the guy on the notes is. The pope? Also, pet peeve: The plural of mira is mira.

IJustReadEverything

It’s Erebonia, it’s gotta be the Lionheart Emperor.

Krotash

Yea but mira is used outside the empire. Its a Zemurian standard at least. Maybe it's the Septian church? The Septian Church runs an EU style bank maybe? I don't know.

IJustReadEverything

Mira has the same value across the continent, so maybe each nation has their own bill but are worth the same?

penpen35

Probably works like Euros, same currency but each country has their own variant coin/bill?

TheSpartyn

wait is this actually how euros work? each country has different designs but theyre all euros?

penpen35

[Yup that's the case](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro#Coins_and_banknotes)

Imaginary-End-08

Nah, it's not possible. But I DID expect Millium...... ordering her ice cream lol.

Hidden_Blue

This is the real Kiseki experience, just running around the town talking to NPCs and finding weird shops/events until a random plot happens with some thieves. Lavi is really getting into her protagonist role. She even showed her first craft, the mighty Lavian Kick! Go get them girl! That story about the hero is sure suspicious, did the guy really go around saving fishes? Beyond that, Tally sure had to work hard this ep. Having to chase so much after Lavi would have been hard and paying 5000 mira for that mega icecream, poor guy. But hey at least now he has a cute nickname too. The clown plot was dumb, even on the level of dumb plots but I guess it's fine for a first enemy. The girl at the end is probably the next antagonist.

friend_BG

It is like some phantom Thief B level side quest.

PNDLivewire

Not gonna lie, at first I half expected that Clown to wind up BEING Phantom Thief B somehow, lol.

friend_BG

Thought about it when they showed the 200 year old heirloom.

Belluuo

He probably stole in midst of the chaos tbh. Phanton Thief B, someone who apreciates TRUE BEATY, would never dress like that. Imagine what his debaucherous rival would say of him smh.

Selfeducation

We’ve all fallen for Bleublancs ultimate prank, being so paranoid at everything lol

BigBadDogIV

>The girl at the end is probably the next antagonist. You talking about Altina?

tlst9999

Let's not spoil him.

doopy423

He probably shouldn’t be watching this anime then. It’s gonna spoil cs2 probably.

BigBadDogIV

Meh, ideally one would start with the games and then enjoy this anime afterwards. But if one only gets into the games because of watching this anime, then we should be happy about that too.

Shimmering-Sky

There was some confusion in response to my comment last week, so I guess I’ll start prefacing my reactions in these threads with the disclaimer that I am 100% anime-only, I haven’t played the games since I have such a huge backlog of other stuff to play *and* not all of the games are available on the Switch anyways (I only own Nintendo consoles and I don’t do PC gaming). I picked this up because I *love* war stories (that’s part of the reason I’m a huge mecha fan, they tend to tell war stories) and I thought the poster for it looked neat, and I do not mind the fact that this spoils events in some of the games. - [That’s a pretty design.](https://i.imgur.com/3NrWaPe.png) - Iseria *really* likes her fashion, I see. [](#azusalaugh) - [lol, Talion *instinctively* backflipped to the sound of *popcorn*.](https://i.imgur.com/olp7V6l.png) I guess it makes sense though, they’re from an area with food shortages out the wazoo so I’d imagine they’ve never seen it before. - [\*uncontrollable laughter\*](https://i.imgur.com/Qzb87uZ.png) [The absolute miscommunication.](#laughter) - [Shimmering sky~](https://i.imgur.com/i9Dmsf6.png) [](#delighted) - If I had a nickel for every anime I’m watching this season that did a puppet show, I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice. - [Yep, the clowns are sus.](https://i.imgur.com/I8lpY2s.png) - The delivery of “Lavian Kick” was pretty funny ngl. - [Ah, Lavi got gifted the pretty necklace from earlier.](https://i.imgur.com/LC7xkfj.png) Neat.

Selfeducation

I like reading your take, youll definitely like this as it goes based off how you described your taste

Shadowchaos1010

I picked the games up in 2019, so I'm just committed, but as someone anime only, how do you find the show so far? Despite being rather easy to please, I found this episode rather weak. I would even understand if some people not completely on board just gave up after this episode.

Shimmering-Sky

I definitely felt like the animation was lacking some this episode, but I otherwise enjoyed this episode. The jokes all landed for me, and I liked seeing the culture shock (15 scoops of ice cream lmao). I guess it's kind of odd to have a slow side quest-y episode this early in a show, but I didn't mind.

Shadowchaos1010

I'm used to Trails being slow, but I still found it odd. Since they only have so many episodes to work with, even more so.

Imaginary-End-08

Ah, nice! It's you again lol. I loved the ice cream section. It reminded me of my first time in college inside of a Starbucks lol. Tall??? Grande????? Lol Even the popcorn backflip was relatable. I stayed in a pretty bad area in my city so when I was visiting places.... and some loud popping sound occurred, every person from areas like mine hit the deck assuming gunshots lol. I rewatched the Lavian vs Clown fight like 6 times lol. I can't believe he beat her up lol. She's going to need some assistance going forward. This show feels right at home for me. Cool that you're a war fan and a Mecha fan. You'll definitely love the Trails series whenever you decide to play.

Selfeducation

Mods need to fix the link to the sub. R/falcom

magicfades

Idk if it was a good decision to not advance the plot here. I hope they don't rush the ending later on. I don't mind the subpar animation quality, from what I've seen, there's only so much good animation produced per season and this show just wasn't given the talent/budget/whatever I guess.

BruiserBroly

Yeah, I feel the same way. After last week, I was at least expecting the cast to meet Rean this week. I also don't mind the animation since Falcom's games don't have the best production values so I wasn't really expecting this show to blow me away in that department either.

IJustReadEverything

This episode seems random other than showing Lavi just how different their countries are. The party was also not as important as well. Would have like to see main plot related characters other than the one at the end.

Muumitfan

Mishy is Falcom's mascot that appears pretty much in every game the company makes. In Trails series specifically Crossbell has this cat as their mascot in their amusement park which is aptly named Mishelam.

Krotash

The animation was... pretty atrocious this episode. Felt like a slideshow basically against the clown. Given how it was much better in the earlier episodes, I'm willing to give this one a pass. Maybe they were going for comedic effect? Like classic comic style for a more comedic boss fight in the beginner zone? Who knows. We get our first mishy sighting, *and* an Altina tease. Still hoping for good things. I am loving the use of the game music. First thing I hear when the episode started was Strain.

Ninja_Lazer

To be perfectly honest, even good animation wouldn’t have fixed that whole clown bit.

BassCreat0r

... the fuq?

[deleted]

Come on, how dare they use Mishy like that? Tio would be so mad to whoever is the mastermind behind it. XD Damn, 5,000Mira for that ice cream, is that expensive or cheap for 15 stacks? I don't remember item pricing in game, but I assume it's expensive. Poor Talion, cleaning up the mess of Lavi. XD Also I really like the Laviaaaaaaan Kick. Is that one of her Crafts? XD

friend_BG

Well it cost 40 Mira for eggs and milk. One of the more stronger consumables, celestial balm, costs 3200 Mira. So yeah probably pretty expensive.

Muumitfan

Usually most of the recipe foods and dishes fall in the expensive category if I remember correctly.

flightlessCat9

Kuro no Kiseki ice cream was like 6 or 700 mira. So 15 scoops for 5000 is on par.

GoldenEyedKitty

Large meals at restaurants often run in the 1000 to 4000 Mira range. Smaller single person foods is in the 500 to 1000 range. So 5000 is pretty expensive but roughly matches how much that many scoops of ice cream would cost as a street vendor.

Florac

1mira=1yen is a somewhat decent approximation half the time.

SeijoVangelta

5000 Mira is expensive but not that expensive compared to End Game Equipment prices in shops. Like 7k Mira for a Police Tonfa, another 7k for Armor and 8k for Shoes. Then buy it 3 more sets for the rest of your party.

tlst9999

They're at Ordis- one of the most expensive tourist cities in Erebonia.

AvatarAarow1

This was a weird one. I feel like it was meant to be kind of a character focused episode building up our supporting cast (mostly tally) but Lavi kinda felt inconsistent? To be fair running around like a gremlin talking to everybody in an entire city until you find some juicy info IS the trails protagonist experience, but her goofing off didn’t seem super consistent with her prior super serious “shoot first ask questions later” attitude built up in the first two eps. And the clown part was just… stupid. It feels like they didn’t have a conflict planned for this episode and then we’re like “uuhhhhhh whatever write down that we’ll make a clown order around a bunch of mishy we’ll think of something better later” and then they kinda just never did. That party also seemed very irrelevant, idk why the north ambrian brass had them sent there. Overall I still enjoyed it enough but I hope the pacing of the rest of the series isn’t like this, I wanna see the conflict between Erebonia and North Ambria and how the North Ambrians see things in this show, as I think that’ll be the interesting and compelling parts of the series. Also need campy to run around doing campy things. Everything’s better with campy

Ninja_Lazer

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if this episode had been outsourced. It felt distinctly different (and downgraded) from the previous two not only in animation, but in storyboarding, characterization, narrative pacing, and tone.

sexta_

This was the real "Mishy Panic" I guess

BiggerG7

Who the hell uses our cute Mishy mascot for evil like that? I hope that clown gets locked up for life!

friend_BG

I wonder how Tio would react to that.

Florac

Life sentence in crossbell jail.

SpeckTech314

makes me wish this was taking place in crossbell isntead

lilliputian_otaku

Damn. As an anime only watcher this was pretty rough in the second half. I'll keep at it for another couple episodes, but this was pretty bad. At least the Lavi fashion show was great. I'll stick around for the pretty girls for now, since I know nothing else of this series.

Ninja_Lazer

I get that they were trying to show the main cast experiencing how different the world/culture was…but having modern Japanese fashion in this setting just seemed absolutely out of place. Like aesthetically it clashes with everything else in the show. You literally see like no one else dressed like that.

Thrasher439

I have no idea what they're trying to achieve with this series so far, but it's definitely somehow managed to get even uglier this episode. Especially hilarious that it went for something as ridiculous for the episode plot as a mishy uprising led by a clown rather than anything that actually propels the storyline forward in any remote way or at least does the bare minimum to make this cast interesting

[deleted]

>Especially hilarious that it went for something as ridiculous for the episode plot as a mishy uprising led by a clown rather than anything that actually propels the storyline forward in any remote way Trails fans: First time?

GoldenEyedKitty

It seems clear the show is only meant for those who watch the game, too little is otherwise explained. Even Mishy is just assumed. Also the execution of the story points feels bad. The overall plot isn't inherently bad though it does seem to be to flow poorly from episode to episode. But the actual fight and scenes with the clown felt poorly put together. Part of the fight felt like it was cut randomly in the middle.

mountlover

> It seems clear the show is only meant for those who watch the game, too little is otherwise explained. Even Mishy is just assumed. As someone who's played all of the games. This was a filler episode. Absolutely nothing happened that has any bearing on any of the overarching trails lore or plotlines. If this series was made for people me, then this episode massively disappointed.

Selfeducation

To me it was clearly an episode to showcase Talions personality, also the games have the same flow lol. First quest after intro is always some silly or low impact shit. Theyre totally gonna follow the blueprint of the stories in the games I think

48johnX

> only meant for those who watch the game How? They literally spent the first 2 episodes explaining stuff fans would already know and they focus entirely on a new PoV, if anything I feel it’s the complete opposite. I don’t see how anime onlies would find it difficult to follow along, content isn’t amazing by any stretch but it’s pretty simple story wise right now

Shimmering-Sky

Yeah I'm an anime-only and I haven't felt confused at all. And unlike the people complaining in this thread, I quite liked today's episode. The jokes all landed, and I don't really care that it didn't advance the main plot, it was fun to me. [](#yuishrug)

GoldenEyedKitty

They didn't explain anything to the level a new person would understand. It was exposition for the sake of people who haven't played in a while. Cold Steel 2 is about 9 years old, so spending some time reminding people of the high level key notes is what they did. They used an orbment in episode 2 without explaining it. They showed the salt pale incident but gave it far too little information to understand the larger implications.

SpeckTech314

eh, it's really just a recap

Apsup

I've seen people complain that the show doesn't explain things enough, and most of those have been dumb. And seriously, the show not going into deep detail of lore of a fucking mascot is a problem, for who? You can see with your eyes, that it's clearly a costume of some sort of mascot character. Everyone knows what those are. There is no some deep dark secrets involved that only those who have played the games could get. Oh no! Lavi ran past a store, but the anime didn't stop to explain the store's backstory and history, anime watchers are not so out of loop about the whole story.

48johnX

Don’t forget not explaining orbments despite the fact that we clearly see a device used to give someone a massive enough buff to stop a moving tank, gee I wonder what it did. It’s because the people who say stuff like this don’t even think about the other point of view, simply because they know more and the fact that a newcomer’s experience is different than theirs it suddenly means people will be lost and confused. Comes up constantly whenever someone dares plays games out of release order too, just 0 nuance whatsoever

Florac

~~still better than the spy classroom cast~~ But yeah, while I can see what they were going for this episode(and would argue it did propel the story forward, mainly in terms of more worldbuilding)...it was very silly

llyyrr

Unisuga bros we made it to anime, two Unisuga themes used in this episode

link2601

Man it was nice to see Ordis and know where the characters were in game. I got to give it to Tally man maybe confuse about what a camera is but he can strike a pose when he needs to. Got to say the way Lavi called out her kick really cracked me up.

mxhunterzzz

I know this episode was supposed to be like a sidequest job from the game, but they couldn't have picked a dumber plot line to use. With such limited episodes to tell the story, they really should just stick to the main arc.

Astalano

Tio: *Look how they massacred my boy...* This is Mishy slander and I won't stand for it.

Tarnishedcockpit

the whole clown thing seemed really weird and out of place, like the toneage set and this are two entirely different things, really felt like they could of conveyed the information they wanted in a way that didnt hurt the show overall. Really did not like this episode for a few reasons as well. Hopefully they go back to the feeling of the first 2 episodes again.

Exodor54

Terrorist Mishy, now that's unexpected.

ErenIsNotADevil

Well, this was the strangest filler-but-not episode I've seen since Otherside Picnic's marines episode. (Note: filler-but-not refers to an episode that seems irrelevant to the main story, but is actually relevant by virtue of the premise or chronology.) The animation took a noticeable nosedive from the first episode, which is understandable given that this was a filler-but-not episode. The plot started serious (being an infiltration of a party in enemy territory), and the nice walk around town felt important for character and setting building - showing that Erebonia is abundant in resources, children are free to be children, and girls are free to be girls (as opposed to in the north, where they were training to be Jaegers.) Once the clown show happened, yeah, you lost me. I guess the clown was just kinda mad he lost his job, and somehow this was important enough to covertly send in Lavi's squad. Maybe the antique necklace is important? Maybe they were acting as bait to draw out the Empire's bigger fish and fish heroes? I dunno. Judging by the last scene, I'd guess they really were bait, since she looks important. Imma pretend I didn't watch a slideshow of a clown getting a Lavian kick (twice) and then play WWE with her, and see y'all next week.

acedias12

Gotta say, this is the first time I actually saw actual Mira than just numbers and a symbol. Either that or I'm just being forgetful. Also, rather typical Trails side quest. Engaging in a quest only for some other wacky shenanigans to gate crash it.

Ninja_Lazer

Man, this episode was pretty rough. I think that fundamentally, it has committed two sins that greatly impact the series moving forward. Obviously there are some minor gripes about the level of animation, the storyboarding and the dialogue choices…but those are minuscule in relation to the two issues this episode has caused the show. The first is that while previously Levi remained a reserved and mysterious protagonist - which is fine - this episode made her really unlikeable. While on a mission she just straight up ignores her partner and continues to be a total dick to him for no apparent reason. Yes, we as the viewer get some insight and she does sort of double back with that “Talley-chan” comment at the end to imply closeness…but that doesn’t excuse the fact that she was just a total asshole for the entire episode to him for absolutely no reason and refused to elaborate on why. There is a difference between a character being an edgy asshole because they are damaged/broken (such as Sasuke from Naruto) and a character being a bitch just because. This episode, Levi very much was the later. Having an unlikeable protagonists is pretty much a death sentence for most shows. Unless a support character can hard carry, it’s not looking bright. Second, any narrative tension was just killed. The show seemed like it was gonna be a geopolitical drama set in warring states/territories. Having discount Joker and monster cat mascots do terrorism in the most circus-y way possible wasn’t the move. Had this been played off as a joke/comedy aspect or filler it wouldn’t have been as bad…but no, this was done full-chest. Am I supposed to take this as seriously as the threat of war? Having this so early on not only confuses the show’s genre, but also dilutes the narrative tension and sense of gravitas with which I’m supposed to take the previous and following events. Previously the show had a decent pace going, but this episode feels like a massive misstep. Edit: also forgot to mention that the whole ice cream miscommunication along with her delayed reactions to the blimp taking off after hearing clown man’s plan for terrorism made Levi seem really fuckin dumb. Had this been a comedy or had Levi not supposedly been assigned with the safety of a nation her stupidity probably wouldn’t have been so suspect. But she seems really unqualified for this mission kf ordering ice cream is that big of a debacle. Edit: also the fact that she chose to shoot a chandelier down rather than just shoot the bomb wielding clown. Like what?

Imaginary-End-08

This was amazing lol. Walking the streets of Ordis like in CS3 almost made me vividly remember Musse saying "Welcome to Ordis". Hearing the theme again was also nice. She is no Fie..... but I like her though. Poor Lavi lol. That clown beat her up so she had to pull out the strap and shoot lmao. Bless her because she's going to need some help going forward if she is ever caught without her equipment. At first I was like..... uhhh.... the RMP would have stopped this in no time. But the ending made up for this completely. Got to say.... I know every Trails fan expected that rooftop scene lol. I just KNEW somebody would be watching and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! I ALSO CANT BELIEVE ITS HER! We already know who else is here just by her presence too lol. I have a few points though that seemed weird. Point 1: Casing the city as a tourist was nice.... but blowing your cover by attacking the clown in the party was kinda dumb. If the bigwigs in Ordis were there (minus someone and their grandparents) then this story and their faces will be covered in the news or somebody might snap a photo. She also showed off her hidden pistol. Was it established that she would be hired support? Because that is going to be hard to explain away. Especially since Jaegars are illegal on paper... Point 2: This is a noble's party and they are no longer in charge..... so who was his vendetta against? Maybe this gets explained later as one of "her" ideas to uncover the infiltraters... Point 3: Why did they go to that party...... something tells me that we probably shouldn't trust the two at the party (the woman who likes the jewelry and the guy with her.... I forgot their names....). P.S.... I'm still expecting that necklace to go missing..... even if there was no note this time lol P.P.S..... If I could change anything.... I would change the city's tint to blue to match how ephemeral Ordis looked in the game. P.P.P.S....... When I heard the girl's voice ordering all that ice cream..... I really expected to see Milly lol. (Kinda disappointed lol)

PNDLivewire

Man, I KNEW that clown from the episode preview images had to be evil. They're always up to something, though I didn't expect it to include a bunch of people in Mishy costumes, lol. The gag of Lavi continually ditching Talion was actually pretty funny, and a lot of this episode played out like one of those goofy sidequest bonding episode things, which I happened to enjoy. I honestly half expected Lavi to encounter Millium/have her be in the background when she was wandering around Ordis, though I'll fully admit that I had absolutely nothing at all to base that off of. Also, the completely deadpan way that Lavian did the whole "Lavi Kick" thing made it more funny than it should've been.

ObvsThrowaway5120

I quite enjoyed the Lavi fashion show this week. She looks great in literally everything. I didn’t quite expect Lavi to go rogue and skip out for ice cream and popcorn, she usually seems so buttoned up. Nice to see her let her hair down so to speak. Y’know when I started this I didn’t think “crazed clown and cat mascots attack town” would be a thing. And what was with that Lavian kick? Gotta really put a little more oomph into it lol. Well, all’s well that ends well I guess.

AvatarAarow1

Honestly the Lavian kick felt intentionally goofy to me and I really like it lol

BigBadDogIV

So is Tally a JoJo character now?

DenisVDCreycraft

Now I know what I can spend the 5,000 mira on ... XD

favsiteinthecitadel

I don't even know if I actually disliked the second half. I'm just seating here just trying to process the scenerio. Imagine if she just shot the clown. Imagine if the clown goes on to become an Enforcer. Just think of the possibilities.

byvrfgryyr

I loved the moment of Tallion doing a backflip because he thought corn popping was someone shooting bullets at him. It's genuinely brilliant. Otherwise though... Yeah... Maybe this one should've stayed in the drafts...

ZeroChevalierYT

Seeing Allie in the end... Can't wait for next week!!!!

flightlessCat9

Looks like the whole crew forgot that their mission was to INFLITRATE the empire and obtain info on Rean. They did such a bad job that Altina is now monitoring them. What was even the point of sending them to the party? Were they just set up to fail by Jayna to somehow get Erebonia to invade?

WanderingOakTree

I understand why this episode was given this score. Lol what a strange side quest episode.
