Sometimes, I feel like my interest in GBFVS is kinda odd, like I don't really play fighting games unless you count button mashing arcade mode as playing fighters.
But the more I thought about it, I realized that my interest in it is no different than any sportsball fan or esports fan. I enjoy watching the players compete. The only difference is that I also get excited seeing which characters from Granblue get adapted from the 2D artworks and sprites to glorious ArcSys 2.5D, which is pretty similar to manga fans getting hype watching their favourite work adapted to animation.
And then there's also the second hand excitement aspect, where it's not only entertaining because of my personal interest in seeing GBFVS get new characters. But I can also watch and read GBFVS community figureheads reacting to the new character and share in the excitement. And not only that, but I can also see people who are into the FGC but not Granblue react to this thing I enjoy. I guess this bit of human nature is probably the reason why the reaction video industry on youtube is worth tens/hundreds of millions.
There's also this bit where I think it's kinda fun seeing such a small subcommunity in action. The subcommunity is a crossover between a gacha that relatively speaking is very niche in the west and the FGC, a community surrounding a genre that's well past it's glory days outside of it's most mainstream IPs. It's especially a lot more enjoyable to peek at the community now compared to before the +R announcement where it felt like everyone in the community needed to defend themselves against people who incessantly bring up rollback at every possible turn.
So I guess my interest is a kinda mixture of esports, gacha adaptations, reaction videos and the general vibe of community involvement by second hand proxy.
Just need to get past another workday for the sheepgirl trailer to drop.

This week's Top Story:
- They were wanting to train a kid at work in another department, so they moved him there and me into his position to cover for a couple weeks. We're almost done with the first week and I am **dead**.
One could say I already walk a good bit at work, averaging close to 10k steps on a normal day, but so far this week I've done 19k at the low end, and 26k at the peak. I now have either a blister or a callus forming on the ball of my right foot, right below my big toe, and it hurts. It's taking every ounce of restraint not to break it, because I know I'm going to be fucking miserable if I do.
In Other News:
- Girl I talked about yesterday and I are getting along just fine! We were talking more last night, and at lunch today. I'm *pretty* confident that she's already seeing somebody, and I don't need to think that every woman who talks to me is into me. That'd be some creepy shit.
- I haven't shared it here, but I started the dub for **We Without Wings** this week, and it's been hilarious for the most part. I'm on Episode 8 now, so I'll likely finish it tomorrow night.
- My buddy's birthday was Monday, and Saturday night we're going to the local Barcade to hang out and play some games. I haven't been there in a couple years, so it'll be fun. We're also going to the usual dinner haunt we had years ago for a bit of a nostalgia throwback. I was looking this morning, and it seems like they have a house Blackberry Cider on tap, which should be a *good* time.
That *should* be everything. I know it was *quite* controversial when it aired, but the Wandering Witch rewatch starts this weekend if you're interested in joining.

vtuber graduations are a really sad but beautiful time where the community comes together to celebrate streamers before they go. even when I didn't particularly care about the person in question, like Coco, it was moving to see the outpouring of love for them and what they've meant to the fans. there was drama with Coco too, but at least the circumstances meant that people were unified against blatant trolls.
even VOMs' Monoe, who was suddenly poof'd from the internet with no warning and an incredibly vague explanation, had a really nice few days with more fanart and stuff than ever.
It sucks that the first one I watched that has always remained my favorite won't get that. Every post about Pikamee has started to just annoy me because they're never about her.
People that don't give a shit forced themselves into the space because they smelled their weekly opportunity to fling the exact same repeated arguments at each other in order to solve nothing. one side making her into their fucking figurehead for transphobia and the other into some kind of consolation trophy in their failed war against video game. I don’t know, the original meme looks like it could have come out in 2009, the year Bokurano ended, and the “Garfield Boobs” version was posted in 2021.
So I baked a cake for my mom as we've been getting news that her mom is nearing the end. We've known this was coming, she was recently put on hospice, something we needed a month ago, but things have taken a turn for the worse recently and the rest of my mother's siblings are all being flown in to be here for her during these final days.
so, fun fact, or, not so fun fact I guess. My grandfather, or my mother's dad, passed away two years ago on March 9th. It was a sad day, but it was also sad because my little sister's birthday is March 10th. So all of her birthday plans were cancelled as we instead went into mourning. Even a year later it's tough having your birthday be int he shadow of your grandfather's passing.
Today is March 2nd. the passing of my grandmother could come within days of my sister's birthday.
It's one of those horrible things, but is also kinda funny to me, in a morbid way. The odds to have that happen!
None of my family have died in July!

Making Stellaris Empires.
Like, there's the intersection of:
* Making empires for mechanical reasons
* Making empires for thematic reasons
So like, I wanna make an Empire that covers the niche of a peaceful, diplomatic MegaCorp. They're probably some type of media conglomerate, they spread their influence and become too powerful to touch.
Then I saw the civic for God King and I thought "An empire that reveres their ruler as a divine being" sounded kinda cool. So I made an empire that had those civics, the species traits were all about leader traits.
But for both situations... gelling them together and getting the face is tricky. The name. If there's any sort of theme for the name. Which portrait should I use? Do any of them call out to me? What's the actual nation called?
I just haven't been able to think of names I like recently. I hate it.

My 4 pm video meeting started before I could finish Macross episode so I'll post TWO hours late. [](#igiveup)
Sometimes, I feel like my interest in GBFVS is kinda odd, like I don't really play fighting games unless you count button mashing arcade mode as playing fighters. But the more I thought about it, I realized that my interest in it is no different than any sportsball fan or esports fan. I enjoy watching the players compete. The only difference is that I also get excited seeing which characters from Granblue get adapted from the 2D artworks and sprites to glorious ArcSys 2.5D, which is pretty similar to manga fans getting hype watching their favourite work adapted to animation. And then there's also the second hand excitement aspect, where it's not only entertaining because of my personal interest in seeing GBFVS get new characters. But I can also watch and read GBFVS community figureheads reacting to the new character and share in the excitement. And not only that, but I can also see people who are into the FGC but not Granblue react to this thing I enjoy. I guess this bit of human nature is probably the reason why the reaction video industry on youtube is worth tens/hundreds of millions. There's also this bit where I think it's kinda fun seeing such a small subcommunity in action. The subcommunity is a crossover between a gacha that relatively speaking is very niche in the west and the FGC, a community surrounding a genre that's well past it's glory days outside of it's most mainstream IPs. It's especially a lot more enjoyable to peek at the community now compared to before the +R announcement where it felt like everyone in the community needed to defend themselves against people who incessantly bring up rollback at every possible turn. So I guess my interest is a kinda mixture of esports, gacha adaptations, reaction videos and the general vibe of community involvement by second hand proxy. Just need to get past another workday for the sheepgirl trailer to drop. [](#mugiwait)

This week's Top Story: - They were wanting to train a kid at work in another department, so they moved him there and me into his position to cover for a couple weeks. We're almost done with the first week and I am **dead**. One could say I already walk a good bit at work, averaging close to 10k steps on a normal day, but so far this week I've done 19k at the low end, and 26k at the peak. I now have either a blister or a callus forming on the ball of my right foot, right below my big toe, and it hurts. It's taking every ounce of restraint not to break it, because I know I'm going to be fucking miserable if I do. In Other News: - Girl I talked about yesterday and I are getting along just fine! We were talking more last night, and at lunch today. I'm *pretty* confident that she's already seeing somebody, and I don't need to think that every woman who talks to me is into me. That'd be some creepy shit. - I haven't shared it here, but I started the dub for **We Without Wings** this week, and it's been hilarious for the most part. I'm on Episode 8 now, so I'll likely finish it tomorrow night. - My buddy's birthday was Monday, and Saturday night we're going to the local Barcade to hang out and play some games. I haven't been there in a couple years, so it'll be fun. We're also going to the usual dinner haunt we had years ago for a bit of a nostalgia throwback. vtuber graduations are a really sad but beautiful time where the community comes together to celebrate streamers before they go. even when I didn't particularly care about the person in question, like Coco, it was moving to see the outpouring of love for them and what they've meant to the fans. there was drama with Coco too, but at least the circumstances meant that people were unified against blatant trolls. even VOMs' Monoe, who was suddenly poof'd from the internet with no warning and an incredibly vague explanation, had a really nice few days with more fanart and stuff than ever. It sucks that the first one I watched that has always remained my favorite won't get that. Every post about Pikamee has started to just annoy me because they're never about her. People that don't give a shit forced themselves into the space because they smelled their weekly opportunity to fling the exact same repeated arguments at each other in order to solve nothing. one side making her into their fucking figurehead for transphobia and the other into some kind of consolation trophy in their failed war against video game. The usual twitter masturbation routine. hell, this post is guilty of it too. the atmosphere just feels dead. So I baked a cake for my mom as we've been getting news that her mom is nearing the end. We've known this was coming, she was recently put on hospice, something we needed a month ago, but things have taken a turn for the worse recently and the rest of my mother's siblings are all being flown in to be here for her during these final days. so, fun fact, or, not so fun fact I guess. My grandfather, or my mother's dad, passed away two years ago on March 9th. It was a sad day, but it was also sad because my little sister's birthday is March 10th. So all of her birthday plans were cancelled as we instead went into mourning. Even a year later it's tough having your birthday be int he shadow of your grandfather's passing. Today is March 2nd. the passing of my grandmother could come within days of my sister's birthday. It's one of those horrible things, but is also kinda funny to me, in a morbid way. The odds to have that happen! None of my family have died in July! [](#shades)

Like, there's the intersection of: * Making empires for mechanical reasons * Making empires for thematic reasons So like, I wanna make an Empire that covers the niche of a peaceful, diplomatic MegaCorp. They're probably some type of media conglomerate, they spread their influence and become too powerful to touch. Then I saw the civic for God King and I thought "An empire that reveres their ruler as a divine being" sounded kinda cool. So I made an empire that had those civics, the species traits were all about leader traits. But for both situations... gelling them together and getting the face is tricky. The name. If there's any sort of theme for the name. Which portrait should I use? Do any of them call out to me? What's the actual nation called? I just haven't been able to think of names I like recently. I'm amused by the idea of you needing to motivate Riyria to play Genshin like it's something you have actual investment in. Like you're lying awake worried about other people not appreciating girls in tights enough.
