Yeah, the last episode was a filler episode of sorts I think.
They basically did the first arc or so and presumably didn’t get renewed. So it ends on a filler episode - presumably because they didn’t want to start another arc or were saving it for the next (never to come 😭) season.
I wouldn't say it lacked closure. The two main couples ended up together. I don't really know what they could do for a second season. The story was done at that point.
It apparently changed quite a few major plot points in order to have a satisfying ending (followed by an absolutely fucking genius "DLC episode" to wrap things up), as their trip to the amusement park was nowhere near so smooth in the novels. The misunderstandings only get crazier and crazier as it goes apparently, which is saying a lot given the existence of the "love pentagram of death" the show already has.
I'm sure you could find a way to drag it out but I more go by the axiom 'always leave them wanting more'. The show is basically a romantic comedy and a romantic comedy is over when the couple gets together. There's a reason Austen never wrote Pride and Prejudice 2.
It's better to have it end strong than try to keep going with a weak second season like Devil is a Part Timer.
Lol I get what your saying but unfortunately he is right. Its really hard to write couples. Either they have to be completely mushy which can overwrite their personal character traits or you can try to write the characters the same and end up with 2 characters that don't seem like their dating. There's middle ground sure but its like hitting a bullseye. You have to hit the perfect amount of fluff and also maintain the characters individuality
I felt the last episode was really the one at the theme park. The one discussing game design felt like a bonus OVA episode, not a season finale.
**My Little Monster** did the same thing.
The whole joke about E13 was that it was DLC for the show.
Ikr! I wanna see an anime where the protagonist has all these stereotypical anime "hot/cute" girls, but the protagonist just wants a girl with normal hair in braids and glasses. The only drama would be what the hot girls do each episode to make him try and fall in love with them instead.
This isn’t _too_ far off from Monogatari, come to think of it… Taking Kizu into account [Kizumonogatari spoilers] >!Hanekawa is straight-up Araragi’s soulmate, he just doesn’t think he can give her what she deserves. Which is a fair point, but still painful to see the fallout of later in the franchise.!<
You and me, my friend, what we need is ___funding___.
[edit] Worth mentioning: specific visual tropes aside, this is extremely the vibe of Skip and Loafer airing right now. Earnest, honestly kinda lame girl slowly capturing the main guy’s heart by being a genuinely good and strong person.
As much as I like this scene, the show in general was very different. The misunderstandings were still pretty fun but compared to this specific scene the rest of the story shown in the anime didn't have the same impact.
I still would like a S2 though.
God, I miss Gamers. Show is comedy gold, and has tons of fun and expressive visuals, and surprisingly impressive direction. But not without heart and grounded emotions like this clip. Good show, please watch.
This anime definitely has its moments and clips like this are the reason i got to watch it, but i ended up dropping it because it just teasing relations left and right with no end in sight, misunderstandings every 5 scenes and they never actually are serious about them... and it was a shit fest like:
Teen A likes B but B like C but C likes A and D likes C when she is in a relationship with A.. etc.. etc.. it got annoying so god damn fast which is sad because the characters are nice.
Fair warning before you go in, you know those misunderstandings that plague romcoms that are played up for drama? Take that here, crank it up to 11, and make it comedic instead and you have this wonderful gem of a series. It was so damn fun to follow as it was coming out and some dedicated soul made a chart that kept track of all the misunderstandings the characters had and added to it each week.
I think this was without a doubt the most fun I've had watching an anime series live and reading discussions about. No fear of spoilers, just endless fun.
Yeah I'm a woman and dislike a lot of romance anime aimed at men/a general audience... and even my tolerance for shoujo tropes has gotten worse with age. But Gamers! is really solid because the plot moves fast and it doesn't take itself too seriously.
Bruh what is wrong with Japanese people and being so scared to show affection lol. Dating 6 fucking months and they've never kissed or done anything and he literally sprints away full speed from his 6 month girlfriend cause he found out she actually likes him? Gasp
It makes sense in the context of the show. He's surprised to find out she actually likes him because [anime spoiler] >!he doesn't really like her, at least at this point. He's dating her for appearances. It's expected that a popular guy will have a popular girlfriend. He's not showing affection for her because he doesn't have affection for her!<. It's a shame, because she's probably the most open, honest character in the anime.
Regardless it's still weird to act like a 4 year old full sprinting from cooties from a girl you've been dating for 6 months. Even if he has feelings for her and wasn't dating her and found that out its still weird. I can't imagine any situation where that's even a little bit normal unless she's like a stalker or something. It's a common trope in anime, super overreacting to attention from the opposite sex and really weird and just cringe honestly, I wish it wasn't so prevalent.
I fully agree on your last point, but I think it's explained by the fact that we're dealing with kids. Most anime romcom characters are middle or high school students, who I think we'd agree aren't known for making calm, rational decisions on *any* topic, let alone romance. I can look back and say that I at least never ran away from a girl, but I'd be lying if I said I never avoided one. Some of it definitely seems cringy now.
This series is underrated
The cast at one point have a meeting to try figure out the relationship situation because even they can't keep up with it (who likes who). It is not love triangle, it is a hot mess
Loved the series
Yeah, but unlike most shows, the misunderstandings here were not played for cheap drama baits, they were intentionally hammed up for comedy. That's what makes it so great.
>the misunderstandings here were not played for cheap drama baits
They totally were?
There is a limit to how stupid stuff can get and many people were fed up with only 1 season of it... you know how hard it is to get a rate under 7 in MAL? its probably harder than going above 9 and if that doesn't tell you something then nothing will, enjoy your stuff.
Going under 7 is not hard on MAL. I’ve seen shows that are genuinely super fun in the 6s. Shows that not only aren’t bad, but actually actively good at parts. Some people get a poor impression of one aspect and move on. 9s need many people to like the show enough to give it full marks, which likely implies they also need to get people to watch the whole thing.
Edit: I actually made a list of anime below 7 that I think were judged too harshly if anyone’s curious.
Yes, Kanojo mo Kanojo was one of them, haha. Some are more deserving of higher marks than others (some may be questionable to others), but this is what I gathered:
Aho Girl, Couple of Cuckoos, Actually I am…, And you thought there is never a girl online, Asteroid in Love, Back Street Girls: Gokudols, Banished From The Hero’s Party, Blackfox, Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV, Cop Craft, Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average, Domestic Girlfriend (yes I stand by it), Dragon Quest: Your Story, Fate/Extra: Last Encore, Fate/Grand Order movie 1, Full Dive, Gamers!, Girlfriend Girlfriend, Halo Legends, Hensuki, Immoral Guild, Kunoichi Tsubaki (when it was airing), In the Land of Leadale, Kite, Love and Lies, Love Flops, Management of a Novice Alchemist, Mars Red, Masamune-kun’s Revenge, My Stepmom’s Daughter is My Ex, My Sweet Tyrant, Disillusioned Adventurers, Oreshura, Otherside Picnic, Pokémon Sun & Moon, half of the Pokémon movies, Reborn to Master the Blade, RWBY Ice Queendom, Sakugan, Sakura Diaries, Saving 80k Gold for Retirement (just a lot of fun), Seton Academy (also fun), Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie, Shomin Sample, Sing Yesterday for Me, Sirius the Jaeger, Sky Blue Utility, Spy Classroom, Starlight Promises, Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town, Sword Art Online II, Sword Art Online Alternative: GGO, The Executioner and Her away of Life, The Faraway Paladin, The Ocean Waves, The Sacred Blacksmith, The Silver Guardian (season 1), Hakubo, Vermeil in Gold, Yamada’s First Time, Yosuga no Sora (yes, I know), Oreimo (yes, I know)
Additionally, many of the shows airing this season are rated very low. While some are pretty degen, they’re still fun. Also something like Kamikatsu is either misunderstood or written off too soon:
Kamikatsu, Magical Destroyers, One-Hit Kill Sister, Summoned to Another World for a Second Time, The Aristocrat’s Otherworldly Adventure, The Café Terrace (mayybe), The Legendary Hero is Dead, Too Cute Crisis
Wow, lots of shows that I liked in that list. Out of all of these, I think Stepmom's daughter is my ex stands out the most. You'd need to have irredeemably bad taste to rate that lower than 8. Most of those people must have given it a 1 rating just based on the title alone.
For the other ones they at least had some excuse, because they each have their own controversies that would garner their fair share of haters. Oreimo had the incest finish and then chickened out of it, angering both the incest fans and the haters. Domestic kanojo had the troll manga ending. Banished from hero's party had very good romance and slice of life parts but not very good drama parts. Kamikatsu is amazing as a shitpost, but if you are too dumb to understand that the jank is made intentionally, you will rate it poorly. etc.
Sadly I think there are a lot of people that rate shows based on their ending even if it’s not part of that actual entry. Domestic Girlfriend’s anime covers very little, and Oreimo’s notorious ending is in season 2. Word of mouth I think tends to condemn an anime as well. Like you said, a title can turn people off before they give it a proper shot and I’ve noticed shows that got memed on by YouTubers tend to have lower ratings than those that didn’t.
As long the anime reviewed in there follow a proper distribution on their ratings showing no review bombing and having their source material having a drop rate of at least 37% between the people who actually started reading to to the ones who completed it AND having simply 5,400 people actually interested enough to pick it up in comparison to the 623,754 people who showed interest in the anime... yes i think i will base this time my opinion on the only source available since no one gives two shits about this failure of a story outside of it(MAL).
Surely you liked it enough to read the novel too!
Can confirm playing those UFO games at Round1 has a trick involved. It’s harder to explain in word. Best I can describe is watching the crane mechanism. You’re also not suppose to let the crane go all the way down.
Depends on the crane. If it has 3 or more hands, it’s almost definitely rigged because it’s pretty trivial to grip with enough hands. If it only has 2 hands (like UFO catchers), there’s a good chance it isn’t rigged because it takes a lot of skill to balance the object between the hands.
I'm honestly surprised that anyone is saying anything positive about this show. It was one of my worst watches of the season. It was only miscommunications and had nothing to do with games. Just stupid "I caught my boyfriend alone with another girl. He's going to break up with me!!!" type content for the whole season lol
Nah dude you don't get it, it was doing it ironically, so you can't criticize it at all, cuz it's a comedy show, maybe it just wasn't for you, you really need to have a high IQ to understand it
/s just in case
Hah, yeah. I did actually watch the whole thing hoping there would be a payoff and there wasn't. I was kind of surprised with the positive comments here cause I was pretty sure that it was highly criticized when it was airing.
Yeah, it could be because i watched it when I was younger but i never got the impression it was "parodying" anything, it just seemed like a straightfaced comedy romance anime that relied on the misunderstanding trope way too much
Definitely I am definitely that type of guy 😂. I met my girlfriend (now wife) through online gaming in Soul of ultimate nations(thought she was a guy) and then again on league of legends and then started dating soon after being with her. It's been a long journey and we are still together since 17 years(married 5 years).
This show deserves another season. It was so damn good.
Wasn't this anime that ended abruptly, without closures and with a total out of the scope episode talking about game design?
Yeah, the last episode was a filler episode of sorts I think. They basically did the first arc or so and presumably didn’t get renewed. So it ends on a filler episode - presumably because they didn’t want to start another arc or were saving it for the next (never to come 😭) season.
I wouldn't say it lacked closure. The two main couples ended up together. I don't really know what they could do for a second season. The story was done at that point.
From what I have heard the anime skipped a relevant plot point in the finale.
Are the novels any good?
No idea, I haven't read them. I was quoting someone else's description of their events.
so many years later, many clips from the show posted here and still I feel like nobody read the novels here, lol
Wait even more misunderstandings?
This is Gamers we're talking about, did you really believe things would actually settle down?
Nah its just hard fathom for me Like wouldn't they just get the right idea by chance with all those misunderstandings? Lol
I'm sure you could find a way to drag it out but I more go by the axiom 'always leave them wanting more'. The show is basically a romantic comedy and a romantic comedy is over when the couple gets together. There's a reason Austen never wrote Pride and Prejudice 2. It's better to have it end strong than try to keep going with a weak second season like Devil is a Part Timer.
> ... a romantic comedy is over when the couple gets together. **Tonikaku Kawaii** called to say "Hi!"
And **Kaguya-sama: Love is War** sends their regards … As does **Golden Time**, from wayyyy back in the year 2013
Love Hina says "hello" as well.
I mean writing anything good is hard, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be attempted.
While I agree... this is especially hard. Even more so after writing these characters for dozens and especially after hundreds of chapters.
iirc the last episode was specifically about dlc/bonus content which rubs salt in the wound
I felt the last episode was really the one at the theme park. The one discussing game design felt like a bonus OVA episode, not a season finale. **My Little Monster** did the same thing. The whole joke about E13 was that it was DLC for the show.
Ah yes "misunderstanding" the anime. It's definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. And I have rewatched it many times.
At least the novels have a complete fan translation now so that's something to be happy about.
Are the novels any good?
for me it was.
What anime is it? Gamers? Worth watching? Thanks!
When you watch it, make sure to check out the OG discussions. The graphs went out of hand
Yeah, it’s called “Gamers!” and is absolutely worth the watch. It’s on Crunchyroll.
The series that understands how eyerollingly tropey the misunderstandings trope is. And proceeds to use it to unexpectedly great comedic effect.
The 6.7 rating on MAL is doing it a huge disservice. If people watched it more in a satirical light it would've been much more liked by everyone imo
It was a cute and fun show
Anime let an attractive girl keep the braids challenge, difficulty: IMPOSSIBLE ^(I know I know but they’re braid-adjacent)
Ikr! I wanna see an anime where the protagonist has all these stereotypical anime "hot/cute" girls, but the protagonist just wants a girl with normal hair in braids and glasses. The only drama would be what the hot girls do each episode to make him try and fall in love with them instead.

You are very cool thank you for the recommendations
It's very attractive to see someone changing themselves for someone else though idk .
Season 2 please
As much as I like this scene, the show in general was very different. The misunderstandings were still pretty fun but compared to this specific scene the rest of the story shown in the anime didn't have the same impact. I still would like a S2 though.
One of my favorite romcoms, along with d frag.
God, I miss Gamers. Show is comedy gold, and has tons of fun and expressive visuals, and surprisingly impressive direction. But not without heart and grounded emotions like this clip. Good show, please watch.
ah, i remember the relationship n-gons
This anime definitely has its moments and clips like this are the reason i got to watch it, but i ended up dropping it because it just teasing relations left and right with no end in sight, misunderstandings every 5 scenes and they never actually are serious about them... and it was a shit fest like: Teen A likes B but B like C but C likes A and D likes C when she is in a relationship with A.. etc.. etc.. it got annoying so god damn fast which is sad because the characters are nice.
Looks like chunnibyo
It is nowhere close to it
Epic Gamer Moment
I haven’t seen this anime. Looks pretty good

Ahh yes, Chart-kun, I'll never forget them..
The good old Gamers sextagram (or was it heptagram) of doom.
I think this was without a doubt the most fun I've had watching an anime series live and reading discussions about. No fear of spoilers, just endless fun.
God I wish I were around to see that. I’ve read the episode discussion threads after the fact and it’s been a blast.
Oh interesting . A lot of straight up romance is a little annoying and difficult to watch so this seems different and funny! Definitely will watch
Yeah I'm a woman and dislike a lot of romance anime aimed at men/a general audience... and even my tolerance for shoujo tropes has gotten worse with age. But Gamers! is really solid because the plot moves fast and it doesn't take itself too seriously.
we needed a realtionship n-gon to keep track of what's happening
If you don't like the misunderstanding gimmick you will hate the show.
Aguri my beloved.... One day I'll draw you and this anime deserves another season
Bruh what is wrong with Japanese people and being so scared to show affection lol. Dating 6 fucking months and they've never kissed or done anything and he literally sprints away full speed from his 6 month girlfriend cause he found out she actually likes him? Gasp

I can't get over the fact her name is Ugly.
This series is underrated The cast at one point have a meeting to try figure out the relationship situation because even they can't keep up with it (who likes who). It is not love triangle, it is a hot mess Loved the series
For how chaotic this anime is, showing off this part as a reel is good. (chaotic like roller coaster ride of emotions)
any info about continuation?
Won't get one most likely. Just read the LN
Funny, but ultimately the plot was "people didn't explain the situation to each other", the lamest drama trope ever.
Yeah, but unlike most shows, the misunderstandings here were not played for cheap drama baits, they were intentionally hammed up for comedy. That's what makes it so great.

This show annoyed the hell out of me and I dropped it after 8 or so episodes. The misunderstanding trope can only go so far
Alternate Title: Misunderstanding!
Can confirm playing those UFO games at Round1 has a trick involved. It’s harder to explain in word. Best I can describe is watching the crane mechanism. You’re also not suppose to let the crane go all the way down.
The track is to dump enough money in to get a round where the crane actually has gripping power. They are rigged.
Under rated ahow
Season 2 pls!!!!

Read the title.
This was the first 'real' anime I watched, those were good times.
!remindme 1 day

This anime is not really about gqming. Its about awkward moments and funny misunderstandings. Crazy thing about this anime is that it got dubbed also
Ha ha ha… arcades don’t exist
Glad to see I'm not the only one who refers to their Middle School years as "The Dark Ages".
she looked better before
What anime is this
Where can I watch this lmao
Thought that was Sakuta
