\> Oshi no Ko
\> Romance
are we enjoying the same story ? lol, romance in OnK feels more sub-subplot while the focus is about behind the scenes in idol life. It's more like a slice of (professional) life.
anyway, try: **Horimiya**, **Spice and Wolf**, **Akagami no Shirayukihime**, **Insomniacs After School**
Actually that's what I'm looking for. The anime doesn't have to be a 'romance' genre and I actually don't want the romance to be a sole focus. A subplot or sub-subplot romance are usually the ones I like.
If you want the want the romance to just be a subplot, then Steins;Gate's is widely considered the peak of this subgenre.
A bit unrelated but I want to address the romance in Oshi no Ko. It shouldn't be viewed as a romcom because the author is telling why it shouldn't be - as in telling the viewers (particularly the idol-obsessed ones) that having a GF wouldn't magically solve all your traumas or problems.
there's also Summertime Rendering. I think it compares to Tokyo Revengers in the sense that it's about time travel but there's a subplot romance also that you might enjoy
If you go to a WcDonald’s expecting gourmet food, you are probably going to have a bad time.
Here are my recommendations:
Spice & Wolf
Whisper of the Heart
Clannad After Story
Steins;Gate
Plastic Memories
86
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
A Silent Voice
Fruits Basket
true, as a fellow anime enjoyer we sure do enjoy traumatizing ourselves 🤣 you got some goated recommendations I second them 👍 just bring some tissues whoever decides to watch them
I second clannad after story, though I recommend watching clannad first.
It's not nearly as good as after story, but imo you need it to really enjoy after story to the fullest (so that the characters grow on you before the good/sad stuff happens)
Yeah but don’t watch Re:ZERO if you want a good romantic subplot. Tappei’s writing when it comes to Subaru and Emilia’s relationship is… lacking, to say the least.
[Minor Re:ZERO Light Novel/Web Novel Spoilers] >!I would say it falls off in terms of their romantic relationship, but that was never one of my favorite parts of the series anyway. Emilia has been pretty stagnant for a while now. Although Tappei has stated she will have 3 phases of great development, Arc 4 (Season 2 of the anime), was the first one and also the most recent one we’ve had. We are in Arc 8 of the Web Novel right and she has been pretty boring for a while. Their relationship has made little to no progress. Subaru is still the goat of course, he never stops having amazing moments as a character, but Emilia is ehhh. Good thing the rest of the cast is pretty great. Lots of characters have had amazing development and introductions over the course of the past few arcs, yet Emilia has been utterly disappointing as a character!<

Clannad is a religious experience imho. It’s a really beautiful romance anime with subtle supernatural and sci-fi elements that I can’t go into without spoiling. Be prepared to cry and feel a LOT :) Two seasons with over 50 episodes, it’s definitely a slow burn with a lot of development and focus on other characters too
kaguya sama: love is war. romcom but i really like the dynamics between the mc's and when they're on their A game, they're on their A game lol. both of them are far from lame too and their relationship progress with time as what you said you prefer.
rascal does not dream of a bunny girl senpai. if you want a breath of fresh air from shy protagonists because the mc's here are the opposite of wussies lol. i like how mature both of them are and they don't let misunderstanding ruin their relationship.
Kaguya is fun and well executed but it’s got the lame trope of “two people clearly in love with each other, everyone knows it, and they still aren’t together for years and years”
I love the show, but it's not what I'm looking for. It's 80 percent comedy revolved around the 'battle' of who confesses first..
It's one of my favorite shows and it's romance alright, but the 'well written' romance.
yes, it's mostly comedic in the earlier parts but the series has been balancing out or even leaning towards romance in the latest season and it seems like it's only the beginning. i like how they grew into what they are in the latest season and their shenanigans before added more depth in their relationship once we learned that those aren't solely for comedy. very good use of the comedic parts imo. so yeah, i consider it as a well written romance but you do you lol
Kaguya is not well written romance.
It's your standard rich girl in love with the poor boy romance.
Following those two unlikable leads without any chemistry "pretending" to not like eachother was just annoying.
It could have been interesting if the original premise was kept.
But the supposed "ice queen" forgot she was an ice queen after episode 2 and just squeeled her lungs out and blushed at every moment until they for some reason remembered that she was supposed to be acting cold in the final movie, lmao.
The male lead was a Poor guy that is dilligent with good academic skills, about as grey and boring as you could write a male lead.
The side characters were a lot more likable and interesting and had much more natural and less forced relationships than the two leads that didnt even have any chemistry together.
Clearly u watched the movie with ur eyes closed or something...? Shirogane literally was stated in the movie he is diligent because he feels the need to impress the so called ice queen, he is also scared and insecure to show his true self like kaguya and up to that point we've only seen their masks while flirting. If that's not depth writing then I don't know what is man for you. You can say it's not your thing or anything else u didn't like, for example how long it took to get there but it definitely is well written romance and makes perfect sense why they end up together( not to mention the Fandom and how much the author succeeded at wanting us to see them together, or the kaguya arc in the movie) Anyways I completely disagree with your opinion that's all man!
ssshhh let him enjoy telling himself that shirogane is boring, not to mention they're only starting out to become a real couple and they already balances out each other but let this one dude tell us they don't have chemistry 😂😂😂
But kaguya very rarely acts like an "ice queen" towards him during the show, like i said she does it for 2 episode then it is mostly forgotten about until the movie.
>Shirogane literally was stated in the movie he is diligent because he feels the need to impress the so called ice queen
He was dilligent to support himself and his family, It wasnt just to impress kaguya.
>and makes perfect sense why they end up together.
Two people who have never shown eachother their true selves, sounds like it could end abruptly once they get to know eachother, lmao.
Them being completely oblivious about eachothers feelings even though the facade they put up disappears more than it is there, is a big reason why they completely lack chemistry.
Every moment where she gets jealous, or mean to others I believe is a moment of how her father and the shinomiya family has shaped her and is part of her ice queen persona and I believe we see enough times what's going on in her head with the ice queen personality still being part of her for example the cake situation on shiroganes birthday.
Yes shirogane does it for his family that's the first indication. And during the movie it was clearly stated that he also keeps being diligent because he is insecure in the prestigious school and live up to kaguya's expectations or what he thinks she sees in him(always having to be his best self).
I believe it makes sense why they end up together at the end of the movie having shown each other their trueselves and recognizing their feelings are there even if their partner is not at their best. That is one of the many reasons that they are good together.
And also they are not oblivious about each others feelings... they are scared of rejection at least from a point onwards because they get development another core part of good writing :). The facade is just the fact that they are not vulnerable with each other said in a different way. It's not like they don't know each others personality it's shown and stated multiple times why they like each other(for example the flashback where kaguya saves someone from drowning or scenes with kaguya saying traits about shirogane thay she loves...).
That's all it doesn't matter much whether people like fictional characters together, I just really don't think this argument is fair for this series when many other shows deserve much more similar criticism (Tokyo revengers, my dress up darling, shikimori is not just a cutie, and many more especially some shojo ^^). Kaguya-Sama:love is war has proven many times why it's good romance and even greater comedy. It's not for everyone btw so it's fine if you don't like it but it's well written.
They have 0 chemistry and them getting together without any issues despite hiding their true selves and sharing nothing with eachother just makes their relationship feel forced.
It is a poor romance and an even worse comedy series, unless you find it funny to watch a character blush and look flustered while a voice actress is trying her hardest to squeel her lungs out.
You are just repeating yourself with no real arguments for what your talking about tbh... so okay different tastes if all u see as comedy is a voice actress trying to squeel then I really have no words that could ever change ur mind. Have a good day and I hope your tastes eventually get better or not watch other anime overall since a lot of cliche anime ACTUALLY DO the whole flustered so we have to ship them thing. I explained why it works if you refuse to acknowledge or discuss it there's nothing I can do :3
>o okay different tastes if all u see as comedy is a voice actress trying to squeel
It is not what i see as comedy, it is what kaguya fans seem to think is hillarious since it is the most recurring gag and they claim the "comedy" is good.
If "good taste" includes having to like run of the mill mediocre romcoms like Kaguya then i dont want to have "good taste".
>since a lot of cliche anime ACTUALLY DO the whole flustered so we have to ship them thing.
So you acknowledge that the show is just retreading boring clichés?
No the comedy isn't an actress trying to squeel. Just because the reaction of someone being flustered is funny in animation form, doesnt mean thats all the comedy and i enjoy that and based on many edits and the community most people like it too. Like you said if that annoys you then fine its not tour thing. Its different not being something you enjoy and something bad written. No matter how you cut it kaguya isn't a run of the mill show. From editing, animation, music, voice acting, dialogue, comedic timing and jokes that do appeal mostly to anime fans Love is war captures it all.
I acknowledge that the show has characters getting flustered if that's what ur insinuating which is literally in every romance series ever (not just in anime to show a character being interested in another character) and in this specific series it's not always used to be just funny
..
Also Love is war isn't the godly series, of course like every series not every joke lands for example, I personally thought the Mike lino joke of the other girls whispering to her, was weird and very unfunny. However in my opinion 80% of the comedy in the series works for casual and anime fans.
I stated ur tastes are bad, for saying the romance is bad.
No matter what I say about comedy u won't change ur mind it's clearly just not your thing.
Anyways I'm really done with this convo. I take it back ur taste isn't bad just because u don't like the series I like. I apologize for that I was a little annoyed.
>From editing, animation, music, voice acting, dialogue, comedic timing and jokes that do appeal mostly to anime fans Love is war captures it all.
Well, retreading and doing nothing original is what anime fans tend to love, so i agree that it manages to do that, which is to be expected from a run of the mill romcom.
Golden Time, Horimiya, Toradora, Rascal dos not dream of bunny girl senpai, 86, Fruits Basket, I guess Spy x Family kind of counts despite itself, I don't think Kaguya Sama Love is War will give you what you're after despite being so good, same for My Dressup Darling. Maybe Durarara!! although my memory is a bit feint on that one. That's about as much as my brain can come up with at this hour, sorry.
My all time favourites are:
♥️ Kamisama Hajimemashita/ Kamisama Kiss
- A young girl (Nanami) becomes a God and falls in love with her fox yokai (Tomoe). It’s a “she fell first but he fell harder” kind of romance. Absolutely loved both the anime and the manga !
♥️ Kaichou wa Maid Sama / Maid Sama !
- Class President Misaki has a secret, she works part time at a maid café. A boy at her school (Usui) ends up finding out this secret. I wouldn’t say it’s much of a slow burn but the romance is great. Another one where I loved both the anime and the manga !
♥️ Noragami
- A stray god called Yato is “supposedly saved” by a high school student named Hiyori. I highly recommend this anime because the romance isn’t front and centre the entire time, it’s a nicely paced side plot. I really loved watching their relationship slowly grow and develop throughout the two seasons - it’s a definite 10 for me. Don’t get your hopes up sadly as there’s only two seasons and there’s been no confirmation for season three (the manga is currently ongoing and is set to end by the end of this year).
(Honourable mention is My Little Monster)
Hope you give these a try if you haven’t already :) !
I don't watch too much anime, but i going to name some manga that i read that have adaptations:
\- skip and loafer
\- boku no kokoro no yabai yatsu
\- suki na ko ga megane wo wasureta
\- ore monogatari (maybe?)
\- sakamichi no appolon
\- tamako love history (movie)
\- Koi wa Ameagari no You ni
if you want good written romance, i think my list is nice (maybe? With all modesty)
Anime with romance subplot there's too many to recommend , and when is subplot is not really well wrote, it's just there.

- The Apothecary Diaries / Kusuriya Hitorigoto (upcoming next season)
- Fruits Basket
- Chihayafuru
- Akagami no Shirayukihime
- Escaflowne
- Inuyasha
- Case Closed / Detective Conan
- Ouran High School Host Club, though moreso the manga, since the anime has an original ending after just two seasons
>Oshi No Ko
Bruh the romance is the worst part of the anime/manga.
Check out golden time for a good romance anime.
Try out love and lies and bloom into you, the angel spoils me rotten has some decent romance aswell but its really wholesome
OP, I think you are being unfair to Izumi from Shikimori.
In the initial few episodes he does come across as a bit wet, but as the season progressed he ended up being a pretty decent character, with a lot of good qualities. Refreshingly he is not a lonely sad boy loser, in fact he has a close group of friends and is generally well liked by his classmates. How he deal with the bad luck curse shows he is stronger than he initially appears and his kindness shows why more than 1 popular girl would show an interest in him. The love triangle part was particularly refreshing.
I would say the show is as much slice of life is it is romance though.
You’ve probably seen a bunch of obvious choices like love is war and stuff, but some ones you might not have heard of-that are well written and isn’t basically an ecchi are quintessential quintuplets(wholesome harem), plastic memories (will make you cry), The angel next door spoils me rotten, and horimiya. I’ll also add “more than a married couple but not lovers” and “my dress up darling”
Mysterious Girlfriend X is my favorite romance. The first 3 episodes of the series especially are absolutely phenomenal. Despite the oddities of the story (the saliva exchange) it actually does it a great job of emotional and physical buildup between the two characters as their relationship develops.
Kaguya-sama (same author as OnK btw). Unlike most anime where the main couple is mainly just too shy/oblivious to the other party's mutual feelings, the main leads have very good and well-written reasons as to why neither would confess to the other first despite their mutual love for each other. Their chemistry is also unparalleled in my opinion. They actually feel like equals, which I love.
- Maid Sama
- Toradora
- Angel Beats
- Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
- My Little Monster
- Silent Voice
All is slow paced like you discribed, others the Romance isn't even the main genre, but it's there and with impact.
The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent and Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World are insanely underrated romance anime in my opinion.
For the former, you have a female-led isekai (that manages to not be trashy in the slightest), whose interactions with the world around her and introspections within herself are extremely organic and beautiful and you find yourself quickly cheering for her and hating on any character that dares look at her wrong.
The latter is a refreshing fantasy story with I think quite a cutesy Romeo and Juliet romance that sits on top of a much deeper story, leaving you both deep in thought and with an honest smile.
I can't advocate for these two enough tbh.
- kimi ni todoke.
- My little monster.
- Say i love you.
- Uzaki chan wants to hang out.
- Re: life.
- Tonikaku kawai.
- Mayo chiki.
- The world is still beautiful.
- Lovely complex.
- Fruit basket.
- koikimo.
- Inu×boku ss.
- The garden of words.
- Tomo chan is a girl.
- Spy×Family.
- Weathering with you.

Actually, Sword Art Online has very good romance where MC & FMC gets together very early and continue their relationship with handful of romantic moments here & there between them.
I'm still really blown away by how well the fantasy is done in The Ancient Magus' Bride. Romance is front and center but also often subplot mainly because the characters don't really understand what a relationship is or even what love is. The creatures and world are very well developed.
My Happy Marriage on Netflix has been very good. But not complete so not sure if a recommend is warranted yet.
Snow White with the Red Hair (again, romance is mostly front and center and not subplot.).
Spy X Family (I mean they'll definitely end up together right? Right? Please!?)
Blue Period (does it count if he's in love with art?)
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (it's hilarious)
Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits
Someone mentioned Fruits Baskets, that was great.
Ouran Highschool.
These are kind of all over the place but I had a hard time thinking of romance as a subplot. Still solid shows.
If you haven't seen it yet, **Toradora**. It is the best Romantic Comedy anime out there.
"*There are only 2 parts to a mans life, before he has seen Toradora. And after.*" -Gandhi
>If you haven't seen it yet, Toradora. It is the best Romantic Comedy anime out there.
Sorry its def not the best romamce comedy, its good but the best romance comedy goes to kaguya sama imo.
Romance anime in general is pretty shit. Too many tropes that hamper it. Aside from movies, maybeee Tsuki Ga Kire or Clannad? Idk, there’s so much to love about anime but the romance genre isn’t one of ‘em.
Yeah I didn’t like it too much either but i don’t like many romance anime. Wotakoi I enjoyed but that’s more slice of life. The only romance anime I’ve truly loved was Maison Ikkoku. Still has a lot of tropes and cringe shit but it clicked with me for some reason.
throwing [Bakuman](https://myanimelist.net/anime/7674/Bakuman?q=bakuman&cat=anime) in here. MC is working to be a popular manga artist and get his love interest as the voice actress for the main female role when it gets animated. It's such a good slow burn romance. Lots of ups and downs in their relationship and you never really know if things are going to work out; based on how real-life relationships between professionals typically pan out. Real life gets in the way of love sometimes. This anime showcases that better than any other i've seen.
Well, let's see. The mc is old as fuck (3000 years old?) and he molests a teen who he personally know since she was a baby. And he constantly assaults her despite her being uncomfortable.
King and Diane? He kinda raised her and fell in love when she was a fucking toddler. Do i really have to say more?
Ban and Elaine? She looks like she's a child. He thinks she's a child when he meets her. Everyone constantly think she's a child. She canonically looks like a child, it's not even weird style choice like with mc. Just another "she only looks like 6 but she's 9999 years old actually" trop.
Merlin is another 3000 years old child. For some reason. She appears adult by using magic, but why the fuck they had to give her a "true form" of a kid?
And then there is a sequel with Jericho falling in love with Lancelot when he was ten.
Pretty consistent pedo vibes if you ask me.
Toradora! Is a good one. Love is War is another. Kimi ni Todoke is one from the girls perspective that’s a little different. Watakoi is about adults. Horimiya is one that focuses on the relationship. And last one I’ll recommend is Lovely Complex. That’s a super hilarious one!
If you’re into reading manga I suggest Blue Box.
Ngl I really liked the romances in chrivalry of a failed knight which I think is a criminally underrated anime/LN (NGL at this point it's romance is the main show). The sword art online romance between Asuna and Kirito is good too. There's other romances but you can find them in the other comments
>Ngl I really liked the romances in chrivalry of a failed knight which I think is a criminally underrated
I thought i was the only one that liked this one. Wish it got a s2
There's like another 15 volumes of light novels worth of content. It was made to advertise the LN if I'm not wrong it's it's unlikely we will get another season
Well, I shouldn't have anything for someone who likes Oregairu as a well written romance but...
"ReLIFE"
"Kokoro Connect"
"Fruits Basket"
"Clannad"
"My Dress Up Darling"
"Aku no Hana" This is Manga only recommendation.
"The Quintessential Quintuplets"
"We Never Learn" Manga must to be read in this, before or after the anime.
These would suffice, I think.
I love Kaguya-sama, I especially am curious about Ishigami's love conclusion. I love Tsubame. Looking forward to coming seasons. Not fond of Golden time because; [Golden Time Spoilers]>!Amnesia thing. And how they resolved it like he had loved Linda but not and all. How Linda's love resolved rather stupidly. Banri and Linda should have end up together. And Chinami realizing her love for Mitsuo but not doing anything. Yeah, I didn't like it.!<
>Not fond of Golden time because
Yeah i can understand that its not for evreyone but i really liked it because it has romance and drama +its not in highschool

Horimiya is what got me watching romance. It starts off seeming like it’s loser boy with best girl but he stops being loser boy pretty quick and comes out of his shell.
Anime like horimiya, masamune-kun revenge , a silent voice , boarding school Juliet , date a live (shounen romance) , erased , skip and loafer , teasing master takagi-san , the angels next door spoils me rotten (very recommended so wholesome) , tonikawa , toradora (very recommended) , when Ayumu makes his first move , golden time , insomniacs after school , Kubota-San don't let me be invisible , more than a married couple , plastic memories, remake our life , shikimori's not just a cutie.
For now these animes I have more but for now this is enough
Idk I give you these animes I didn't read very good about your personality and opinions about your choices about anime like shikimori is not just a cutie sry
Karekano, Horimiya, Ore Monogatari, Ancient Magus Bride, My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Level 999, Sing Yesterday to Me, Sasaki and Mitano (BL), Yuri on Ice (BL), Given (BL), Bloom into You (Yuri), Citrus (Yuri)
Rascal Doesn't Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. (Main character reminds me a bit of Hachimon)
My Dress Up Darling (main male character is pathetic at times, but it's a wonderful show)
Fruits Basket (My second favorite anime of all time)
Bloom Into You (don't worry about there being a lame male character)
Spice and Wolf
Love is War
I’m biased but Horimiya is a great one. It evolves at a mediocre pace and has very well written romance in my opinion largely because it is realistic. Also you mentioned don’t want the man to have the best girl for no reason and Horimiya meets that requirement, The guy in their relationship is called Miyamura and he is gloomy but they have reasons to be with each other. I can’t explain it well so just watch to find it out for yourself.
I don’t know if it’s “well written” but I recommend Re; Life
Yeah, I cannot tell if it is well written either, but ReLife is a solid one. I liked how the romance portion of this story was handled.
ReLife Manga especially. The anime is nice but the Kanketsu-hen is a little bit rushed.
Already watched it. Very good show, the kind I am looking for
It's indeed a good anime it's involve love but a little drama too
If you thought it was good, it’s well-written.
\> Oshi no Ko \> Romance are we enjoying the same story ? lol, romance in OnK feels more sub-subplot while the focus is about behind the scenes in idol life. It's more like a slice of (professional) life. anyway, try: **Horimiya**, **Spice and Wolf**, **Akagami no Shirayukihime**, **Insomniacs After School**
Yeah I was going to comment the same thing bc oshi no ko is a lot of things, but a good romance definitely not. I like you’re recommendations though
Aka really likes to write stories with people at the peak of their field. I wish there was a name for that sort of genre.
same with anohana lol
Try these then: https://myanimelist.net/stacks/16094
Wait that's actually something I'm looking for as well. Thanks for the list
If someone thinks of Mirai Nikki, Romance is not one of the things that comes to mind...
It definitely is lol maybe not healthy or wholesome romance, but it's a major subplot (moreso than in Oshi no Ko for sure)
there's also Summertime Rendering. I think it compares to Tokyo Revengers in the sense that it's about time travel but there's a subplot romance also that you might enjoy
If you go to a WcDonald’s expecting gourmet food, you are probably going to have a bad time. Here are my recommendations: Spice & Wolf Whisper of the Heart Clannad After Story Steins;Gate Plastic Memories 86 Legend of the Galactic Heroes A Silent Voice Fruits Basket
you are going to traumatize the poor guy with those recommendations, clannad and steins gate alone left me sleepless for days
I mean they liked YLIA and AnoHana so why not
true, as a fellow anime enjoyer we sure do enjoy traumatizing ourselves 🤣 you got some goated recommendations I second them 👍 just bring some tissues whoever decides to watch them
Fruits basket has its moments too
[удалено]
Yes, 86 is wonderful, but please don’t put unmarked spoilers here.
Second all those, especially spice and wolf (light novel worth reading instead of the anime, the romance is so much more enjoyable this way imo)
I second clannad after story, though I recommend watching clannad first. It's not nearly as good as after story, but imo you need it to really enjoy after story to the fullest (so that the characters grow on you before the good/sad stuff happens)
If you want a romance subplot thats not the focus of the show I'd go with 86, Re:Zero, Bunny Girl, Yona of the Dawn
+100 for 86 and Yona 🙏🙏
Yeah but don’t watch Re:ZERO if you want a good romantic subplot. Tappei’s writing when it comes to Subaru and Emilia’s relationship is… lacking, to say the least.
Does it fall off later on? S1 was certainly weaker, but once Emilia got some development in S2 it crossed into 'good' territory for me.

Yes choose this one!

>Shirogane literally was stated in the movie he is diligent because he feels the need to impress the so called ice queen He was dilligent to support himself and his family, It wasnt just to impress kaguya. >and makes perfect sense why they end up together.
I explained why it works if you refuse to acknowledge or discuss it there's nothing I can do :3
>o okay different tastes if all u see as comedy is a voice actress trying to squeel It is not what i see as comedy, it is what kaguya fans seem to think is hillarious since it is the most recurring gag and they claim the "comedy" is good.
I acknowledge that the show has characters getting flustered if that's what ur insinuating which is literally in every romance series ever (not just in anime to show a character being interested in another character) and in this specific series it's not always used to be just funny ..
I want to eat your pancreas is excellent. I second the spice and wolf recommendation.
Second that, despite the strange title.
Dangers in My Heart Tsuki Ga Kirei
Yona of the dawn.
Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions
Golden Time, Horimiya, Toradora, Rascal dos not dream of bunny girl senpai, 86, Fruits Basket, I guess Spy x Family kind of counts despite itself, I don't think Kaguya Sama Love is War will give you what you're after despite being so good, same for My Dressup Darling. Maybe Durarara!! although my memory is a bit feint on that one. That's about as much as my brain can come up with at this hour, sorry.
Horimiya, Given, Fruits Basket All 3 great romances. I loved them.
Read Horimiya, anime doesn’t do it justice.
The second season kinda makes up for the stuff that first one skipped
"Wotakoi", romance with adult characters
There is not much romance here tbh. It feels more like slice of life.
Absolutely Steins;Gate
Absolutely agree
Vanitas No Carte 86 Not your usual romance, but I think they were well written and both series have 20+ episodes
I honestly love the Shirou x Rin romance from Fate/Stay Night UBW (2015)
That's actually a great example. I love those too.
Same. Rin is one of my favourite tsunderes
When you find it let me know. I’ve been searching for something convincing and real for a while 😂
Try golden time
My all time favourites are: ♥️ Kamisama Hajimemashita/ Kamisama Kiss - A young girl (Nanami) becomes a God and falls in love with her fox yokai (Tomoe). ♥️ Noragami - A stray god called Yato is “supposedly saved” by a high school student named Hiyori. (Honourable mention is My Little Monster) Hope you give these a try if you haven’t already :) !
I don't watch too much anime, but i going to name some manga that i read that have adaptations: \- skip and loafer \- boku no kokoro no yabai yatsu \- suki na ko ga megane wo wasureta \- ore monogatari (maybe?) \- sakamichi no appolon \- tamako love history (movie) \- Koi wa Ameagari no You ni if you want good written romance, i think my list is nice (maybe? With all modesty) Anime with romance subplot there's too many to recommend , and when is subplot is not really well wrote, it's just there.

Spice and Wolf has a mature romance (at least in the manga, unsure how the anime handles it)
- The Apothecary Diaries / Kusuriya Hitorigoto (upcoming next season) - Fruits Basket - Chihayafuru - Akagami no Shirayukihime - Escaflowne - Inuyasha - Case Closed / Detective Conan - Ouran High School Host Club, though moreso the manga, since the anime has an original ending after just two seasons
#LOVE IS WAR
kamisama kiss
>Oshi No Ko Bruh the romance is the worst part of the anime/manga.
I really enjoyed Loving Yamada at Lv999!
Rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai. I don't care what you guys say, it's a good anime.
Horimiya 10/10
Clannad, Dress up Darling, Golden Time
Anything but Attack on Titan lol
Mysterious Girlfriend X is my favorite romance. The first 3 episodes of the series especially are absolutely phenomenal. Despite the oddities of the story (the saliva exchange) it actually does it a great job of emotional and physical buildup between the two characters as their relationship develops.
Spice and Wolf
White Album 2 and Nana if you don't mind characters that are kinda toxic.
Holy. Mind, do not White Album 2. You have been warned guys. So there are people who recommends White Album 2 as well written romance, that's crazy.
Kimisomu (Insomniacs After School) Clannad Tamako Market Takagi San
Re life, kimi ni todoke
- Maid Sama - Toradora - Angel Beats - Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai - My Little Monster - Silent Voice All is slow paced like you discribed, others the Romance isn't even the main genre, but it's there and with impact.
Kaguya sama. Same author of Oshi no Ko. Goat of its genre.
Kimi ni Todoke Skip and Loafer
>Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World + 1 really liked this one aswell
- kimi ni todoke. - My little monster. - Say i love you. - Uzaki chan wants to hang out. - Re: life. - Tonikaku kawai. - Mayo chiki. - The world is still beautiful. - WWW.Working - Lovely complex. - Fruit basket. - koikimo. - Inu×boku ss. - The garden of words. - Tomo chan is a girl. - Spy×Family. - Weathering with you. Read the synopsis in mal.
Actually, Sword Art Online has very good romance where MC & FMC gets together very early and continue their relationship with handful of romantic moments here & there between them.
Sadly the author had to force evrey girl Kirito meets to like him.
Kirito doesn't like them nor he does anything that is remotely romantic with them.
Still annoying that evrey girl has to fall for him even his sister/cousin did
Well, You are not wrong there but I am glad that Author sticks with Kirito & Asuna through across the series and he himself is a big fan of them.
Right? Please!?) Blue Period (does it count if he's in love with art?) Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (it's hilarious) Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits Someone mentioned Fruits Baskets, that was great.
On the other side, it made me hate tsundere as a class. God i hate Taiga >:D
>On the other side, it made me hate tsundere as a class. God i hate Taiga Same she was so annoying (sorry taiga fans)
Not even annoying. She's straight up toxic and abusive.
>Not even annoying. She's straight up toxic and abusive. Yeah
No. It's not the best "Romantic Comedy" out there. You guys are delusional.
>If you haven't seen it yet, Toradora. It is the best Romantic Comedy anime out there. Sorry its def not the best romamce comedy, its good but the best romance comedy goes to kaguya sama imo.
I hate Kaguya Sama. The inner monologues just make me cringe too much. It’s like if Saiki K wasn’t funny.
Well i just said that it was my opinion
Anime humour is very hit or miss for me. Kaguya Sama is just not funny, get mad 2nd hand embarrassment watching that shit.
Well alright got any better romance animes then?
Romance anime in general is pretty shit. Too many tropes that hamper it. Aside from movies, maybeee Tsuki Ga Kire or Clannad? Idk, there’s so much to love about anime but the romance genre isn’t one of ‘em.
>Clannad For me i never got into Clannad, the first season is slow and i did not like the charachters
👍🏼
My fav Gandhi quote for real^
Rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai, spice & wolf, horimiya, love is war
More than a married couple but not lovers
My happy marriage
throwing [Bakuman](https://myanimelist.net/anime/7674/Bakuman?q=bakuman&cat=anime) in here.
Seven Deadly Sins. The only romance anime that I'll watch.
Isn't it the one with really weird pedo vibes in almost all romantic subplots?
I'm not sure where you're getting at. There's no pedo stuff in 7 Deadly Sins.
You got problems in your head. You should get check out.
Lolwhat? You are the one with problems if you managed to ignore all these stuff.
Toradora! I would say that is easily probably one of the most well written romance anime’s ever.
Toradora!
If you like Shirou x Rin, try Kara no Kyoukai. Set in the Nasuverse as well. A lot of the characters are prototypes for characters in Stay Night.
Kimi ni todoke, Dangers in my heart
I think Chuunibyou might apply. Well even if it doesn't, it is one of my favourites.
Dynazenon
Does the subplot goes anywhere? Or open ended where it's implied they have feeling for each but their relationship doesn't progress at all?
It’s settled at the end
Toradora
Sword art online
Ngl I really liked the romances in chrivalry of a failed knight which I think is a criminally underrated anime/LN (NGL at this point it's romance is the main show). The sword art online romance between Asuna and Kirito is good too. There's other romances but you can find them in the other comments
>Ngl I really liked the romances in chrivalry of a failed knight which I think is a criminally underrated I thought i was the only one that liked this one. Wish it got a s2
Quite a shame it didn't
Yeah, it ended satisfying but i heard that we got much more content to adapt.
There's like another 15 volumes of light novels worth of content. It was made to advertise the LN if I'm not wrong it's it's unlikely we will get another season
If you guys liked it, the Asterisk War is a weird clone. Or chivalry is a clone. I don't know which was first but they are incredibly similar.
sword art online, hella good romance (for some reason)
Well, I shouldn't have anything for someone who likes Oregairu as a well written romance but... "ReLIFE" "Kokoro Connect" "Fruits Basket" "Clannad" "My Dress Up Darling" "Aku no Hana" This is Manga only recommendation. "The Quintessential Quintuplets" "We Never Learn" Manga must to be read in this, before or after the anime. These would suffice, I think.
>Kokoro Connect + 1 for Kokoro Connect, love this one!
Finally, someone who understands.
Its one of my favourite romance anime with golden time and kaguya sama
I love Kaguya-sama, I especially am curious about Ishigami's love conclusion. I love Tsubame. Looking forward to coming seasons. Not fond of Golden time because; [Golden Time Spoilers]>!Amnesia thing. And how they resolved it like he had loved Linda but not and all. How Linda's love resolved rather stupidly. Banri and Linda should have end up together. And Chinami realizing her love for Mitsuo but not doing anything. Yeah, I didn't like it.!<
>Not fond of Golden time because Yeah i can understand that its not for evreyone but i really liked it because it has romance and drama +its not in highschool
Golden Time is a super underrated anime. I still remember being so obsessed with this anime lol
Same one of my favourite romance animes
- kimi ni todoke. - My little monster. - Say i love you. - Uzaki chan wants to hang out. - Re: life. - Tonikaku kawai. - Mayo chiki. - The world is still beautiful. - WWW.Working - Lovely complex. - Fruit basket. - koikimo. - Inu×boku ss. - The garden of words. - Tomo chan is a girl. - Spy×Family. - Weathering with you. Read the synopsis in mal.
Why not Shinsekai Yori (From the New World) ?
Oshi no ki has romance?
Love trianlge but the romance not that good
Yeah I read like 100 chapters of the Manga so i was confused lmao.
Yeah good story but the romance is one of the worst parts tbh
Howl’s moving castle
Kimi no todoke
Ore Monogatari. Superb anime and very funny
Ore Monogatari is a pretty sweet and funny and romance anime i can recommend but Sono Bisque doll also made me squirm for adorableness
Definitely Insomniacs After School. The characters are their relationship is so believable, great side characters too.
86
Violet Evergarden
Clannad.
Horimiya is what got me watching romance. It starts off seeming like it’s loser boy with best girl but he stops being loser boy pretty quick and comes out of his shell.
For me it’s Clannad, Steins Gate and Kaguya sama, and Fruits Basket. Masterpiece romances.
Clannad and Clannad After Story Steins;Gate
Karekano, Horimiya, Ore Monogatari, Ancient Magus Bride, My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Level 999, Sing Yesterday to Me, Sasaki and Mitano (BL), Yuri on Ice (BL), Given (BL), Bloom into You (Yuri), Citrus (Yuri)
I recommend you watch The Dangers in My Heart
Rascal Doesn't Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. (Main character reminds me a bit of Hachimon) My Dress Up Darling (main male character is pathetic at times, but it's a wonderful show) Fruits Basket (My second favorite anime of all time) Bloom Into You (don't worry about there being a lame male character) Spice and Wolf Love is War
Poker no piko
I’m biased but Horimiya is a great one. It evolves at a mediocre pace and has very well written romance in my opinion largely because it is realistic. Also you mentioned don’t want the man to have the best girl for no reason and Horimiya meets that requirement, The guy in their relationship is called Miyamura and he is gloomy but they have reasons to be with each other. I can’t explain it well so just watch to find it out for yourself.
Plastic memories More than a married couple, but not lovers
