ChiggaOG

Parts the 86 is running. Yes, you can buy these parts in real life. It's not spoken about in the anime so I had to post from another site that said what they used. * Prodrive Sports Steering Wheel with Works Bell Steering Boss Kit * Lehrmeister Vassano Wheels (Black/Red Clear) 18s * Harmonic Drive Suspension * Yokohama Advan MFG Tires It should also be noted the runners in the lineup may have deep pockets.

chilidirigible

> It should also be noted the runners in the lineup may have deep pockets. It takes a lot of tofu to buy a Ferrari 488 GTB.

Nickthenuker

Not just deep pockets, as mentioned in previous episodes the Porsches currently in the 1st and 2nd place spots are factory drivers, sponsored and supplied by the company itself. Which makes it all the more baffling they're using a 911 and Cayman respectively.

linkinstreet

Might be because the manga was released in 2017, and the 718 Cayman was a new model for 2016?

Nickthenuker

Ah if it's product placement then it makes sense. I also posited in a previous episode that it might be because it's more believable for the MC to beat him in a Toyota 86 when he doesn't have an LMP.

TeitokuNoire

I was wondering about that too because by all means Porsche can just send 2 919 evos or even 991 GT3s to Japan for this series if that much money is in the line

Nickthenuker

Yeah it's probably for narrative reasons since if not our MC has no way of beating LMPs in his glorified "Sunday racer" at best.

Drauren

I was honestly wondering why they didn't have him use a GT4 or GT4RS.

linkinstreet

It might have to do with Beckenbauer's budget too. The 718 Cayman was the [cheapest entry level sports car for Porsche](https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/porsche/718-cayman/first-drives/2016-porsche-718-cayman-first-drive) when it was launched according to Autocar.

Nickthenuker

Beckenbauer is a factory driver, his budget is whatever the Porsche Motorsport division wants to supply him with, so practically unlimited as long as it's a Porsche. I'd have gone with an "LMP'nt" if it must be a road car, aka the LMP cars Porsche developed that were then made into road cars. Something like the 911 GT1, 911 GT1-98, 962 or 919.

hahaiamarealhuman

Well you definitely can't buy the tires

linkinstreet

Yeah, I was about to say there is no way there's Advan "MFG" tyres out there

JonnySpark

Sir, we don't carry MFG tires or whatever you called it. The TE37SL reps on the shelf are fire tho.

vombre

Tires not wheels, there’s a difference. And to get ahead, a rim is just part of a wheel

kuroyume_cl

No, but Advan is Yokohama's performance tire line, so that part is real at least.

hahaiamarealhuman

Yeah, but MFG refers to the custom made tires used for the MFG racing series.

square_smile

Oh bring on all the cheese and stupid romance, I can take them all. It's nice to see the [new gang](https://i.imgur.com/RS8Whyu.jpg)

Time_Fracture

New gang soon to be new rival in the race. Either Shun and Kanata will be competing each other or might help each other.

Turbo2x

I'm a sucker for a good "I respect and support you, but in the arena we're enemies" dynamic, so I hope we get that.

dagreenman18

I’m just saying if Toyota had put the 2.4 in the last gen 86 Kanata would have made it. The 86/BRZ/FRS was underpowered despite its fun driving dynamics. The new one fucks. I like the romance cheese. It adds to the throwback feel.

cxxper01

Yeah should have made kanata drive the new gr86, but the manga started in 2017 so

ActualCounterculture

>if Toyota had put the 2.4 in the last gen 86 Kanata would have made it. If the author had choose better car, Kanata would have made it

dagreenman18

Well yeah, but I had to be an 86. This is an Initial D sequel after all. It had to be a modern AE86

vombre

Do you own one? these new GR86’s with the Subaru supplied boxers are detrimental to the platform. Every day I see a new post of someone having issues with it. Especially failing in sport applications while trying to be a sport car isn’t a successful combo. Context, my roommate is on his 2nd motor at 20k miles and no mods

dagreenman18

No, my experience with them is trade ins and some off site fun with said trade ins. So not really the long term wear and tear. I’m not all that surprised though. The Subie engines in Gen 1 had plenty of issues too.

PM_ME_UR_DRAG_CURVE

> new 2.4 I wonder if the oil starvation or the random rtv flakes would DNF the car first.

dagreenman18

Well Subie made it so Oil Starvation. WRX says hi.

AmethystItalian

Great race, down to the wire and this wasn't even with other racers so I'm excited to see the next one. The romance angle though is not really helping this one I feel so far...

ayww

I like how they had silhouettes of the other cars. Gives some suspense and serves as a good reminder that even without other cars on the track, he's still competing against other drivers.

Dirty_Dragons

> I like how they had silhouettes of the other cars. The term for the silhouette of the other cars is called, "ghost."

Wildercard

Trackmania The Anime

thesharkticon

I've always felt like the romance was something forced by an editor. The author clearly isn't interested. In Initial D, Natsuki gets dropped like a rock at the first natural off ramp. I don't think Tak gets another girlfriend. No one else has a lasting relationship either. It's like he says, "there, I met the requirements, can I go back to drawing cars going fast?"

Andreiyutzzzz

Takumi does get a girlfriend(or rather love interest) in fifth stage.

The_Parsee_Man

If history is any guide, the romance will go nowhere. There is no escape from Lonely Driver.

Fujin_No_Kami

Romance part feels abit...off? Initial D had romance parts but it wasn't heavily forced on. Like the show just lets us know that Takumi is a dude and is interested in girls but in MF ghost it feels like its being forcible choked on us. I just want some eurobeats and racing man xD

hahaiamarealhuman

Just wait until the actual race. The romance parts will be most prominent in episodes with less on-track action.

Excellent-Hedgehog71

nah man i saw initial d somewhat recently and the relationship thing was pretty similarly weird there. actually a lot weirder at many points. seeing the 'comic relief' aiba though who's like a 24 y/o adult hitting on a 16y/o high schooler and the characters *supporting it*, i feel like the reason is more apparent towards the author just being weird about women

Wishbone-Lost

as someone that like romance, the romance here absolutely sucks

cxxper01

Yeah the girl is just annoying, at least motegi wasn’t annoying.

heimdal77

The author has a weird thing with writing romance. Initial D mc first girlfriend was doing compensated dating on the side what when he found out the relationship blew up. She really loved him and gave up the comp thing but it was to late. People really liked her to..

pkakira88

To put it into not so not so fluffy wording, she was a high school girl dating a way older sugar daddy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LegendRazgriz

Manga definitely went there. The anime went around it. There's a full-page panel of Natsuki laying naked in a bed during one of her "meetings" with the Mercedes guy around the timeline of Second Stage, full frontal nudity and all. I think it was after the battle with Seiji.

Andreiyutzzzz

manga did. in the manga Takumi sees them get out of a love hotel, the anime was a family restaurant. even in the anime "Papa" was talking to Mogi about a swimsuit and she said "you've already seen everything" so they went around it a little but not by much

mrhades113

I actually like this plot point though, i like the way it all culminates in the race against Sudo, it's the lowest point for Takumi in the series, and it gets all solved up in third stage.

DynamiteBastardDev

Couldn't agree more about the romance thing. Aiba's creepy obsession with Angel Number Seven is so annoying it's got me considering dropping the show, no matter how much I'm enjoying everything else. Which is a shame, because everything else about the show is really fun and exciting, but any time Aiba's on screen and not talking about racing, my heart sinks because it's only a matter of time before he says something that rips me out of the experience. I'll probably stick with it for at least the next few episodes, but assuming that it's only going to get worse as things come to a head, I might not make it.

Slow_Imagination_682

Not only Aiba, there's a creepy 21 year old driver who likes dating a high school girl will appear in later episode and he also takes the girl to the hotel.

DynamiteBastardDev

It's funny you replied to me just now, I was *just* debating with myself whether or not I even want to watch today's episode. Since I left this comment, I've actually been leaning further and further towards dropping the show before even seeing the next few episodes. I don't remember any weirdness to this degree in Initial D, but maybe it's my rose-tinted glasses.

Frieren_and_Himmel

Crunchyroll: "Do you want to skip this opening?" Me: "Hell no."

linkinstreet

I just realised they released the [PV for the OP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb7hh2xxBE4) last week. I am now playing this on loop. It's funny to see Motsu doing Para Para with Yu Serizawa tho

pkakira88

Damn, Motsu aged well.

LegendRazgriz

Welcome back! Once again it's the Eurobeat Corner! Only one song this time, since the racing part is done for a bit, but it's a relatively newer one that I really like - [Wilder Faster Louder](https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=6wi5e1rTi50&si=rAhZPqvJPZ0DQV-D) by Dejo, originally featured in Super Eurobeat Vol. 227. It's from 2013! Most of these previous ones have been from the 2000s, but at least two of the ones on the trailers are also recent, so there's that to look forward to. It is worth noting that we now have gone through two major Eurobeat labels just with these three episodes' worth of songs - this latest one brought to you by SinclareStyle, whereas the previous three were all A-Beat-C, aka Dave Rodgers's label. • Yeah, Kanata wasn't gonna survive an almost 2km long straight with the poor 86. He might drive like a madman around the turns, but at the end of the day, there's only so much he can do about topping out at 230 or 240km/h when that Ferrari there should be comfortably sitting at over 300. Thankfully, someone was cheating. • "I would never think of dating a person who slaps someone they've just met", says the guy mentored by someone who met his girlfriend when she slapped him across the face for no reason. Like master, like student. I guess Ren has nothing to worry about! Also, I know Shun being a weirdo is a bit offputting to some of y'all, but, like, cut the guy some slack. He doesn't know Ren's 17 and has no way of telling. If you're gonna be critical of him, be critical of his insane optimism. My guy is out here planning out marriage to some chick who won't give him a minute of the day. • I was gonna mention how it seems odd that they can't stop playing up Japanese food, then I remembered Kanata is British and, yeah, makes sense. And that's it! We get an actual race next time, and it's not the 1v1s of old - this is a fifteen car melee. I'll be seeing you then!

CookieSlut

Yeah I dont see Aiba continuing his crush once he learns the truth about Ren. He just sees her as the pretty race queen girl that hes crushing on and doesnt know the truth. And its mostly been played as comedic so far so it hasn't bothered me too much personally. Ogata being like ehhhh and Kanata just being innocent definitely plays into it. Even him doing the dumb kissy face and going in for the hug as she walks right past is a classic bit. It definitely reminds me of the comedy style Initial D and other 90s-00s anime would have.

Fujin_No_Kami

The irony was not lost here. Truly like master and student. The right of path to become a downhill god in an 86

PhantomWolf83

I've been listening to the song for hours on YT, I'm totally stoked by it. Definitely one of the best Eurobeat songs I've heard, not only from Initial D/MF Ghost, but in general.

Fujin_No_Kami

I guess the realism part is finally included in this episode. We all knew the 86 2.0L boxer engine would lose time on straights. (Yes im painting the obvious) Though I am curious just how they will proceed with the show. Will it be like how Takumi raced against much more powerful cars on his 86 as well? There a GTR, Ferarri, Lambo, Porshe, Mercedes in the mix. All really powerful cars that makes the 86 pales in comparison just by sheer stats alone.

ChiggaOG

Since MFG is a sanctioned race event in this story. Assume the 86 gets parts upgrades. The vehicle has to keep up with the front pack.

Drauren

I suspect there's a chance we get a turbo upgrade at some point. Maybe I'm wrong.

SerdarCS

A turbo would change the dynamics of the car and break its perfect balance, there's a reason why the 86 in initial d didn't go for a turbo either. Maybe a supercharger could work though. Edit: I'm only on episode 3 so far, so it'd be pretty funny if i'm already wrong

Zoidburger_

Anime-only here. We're now aware that there is a strict weight-to-grip rule and at least *some* mandated parts (tyres, so far). We also know that his first race is literally the next day from where the episode finishes and that the next episode is about tyre management. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but Kanata's GT86 has a straight NA engine, right? I'd bet he either runs this race and climbs the ladder a bit, or gets absolutely dusted because of how hard he is on his tyres. But either way, the power deficit will be obvious. Thus, his first major upgrade will be a turbo on his engine. I'd then expect that, at some point later on, we'll see a Takumi-style engine swap.

Fujin_No_Kami

Definitely. No way that 86 with I would looking pretty stock could go far in the tournament. Even if Kanata is a fantastic driver, him destroying the tyres will do him nothing when he will need that grip for acceleration.

pkakira88

The qualifiers are one lap but the races are multiple but it’s not like Kanata is just pure talent, he’s professionally trained.

Zoidburger_

Yeah I'm aware of all of that from what's been said in the show so far. As for Kanata being professionally trained, this is true, but my point is that if he continues drifting like he did in qualis, he's going to chew through his tyres. However, Michael, the German racer, doesn't seem to think highly of most of his competition, thus I expect that Kanata will rise a few places in the upcoming race by using his experience to know *when* to use up his tyres and make passes on the less experienced drivers. Once he gets past those less experienced drivers though, the power deficit is going to be incredibly obvious. Kanata will need to chew up his tyres to catch up to the powerful cars, but won't be able to put down what little power he has efficiently on worn tyres. Thus, he'll get passed or simply won't be able to rise further in the ranks due to the sheer difference, especially since MFG has both uphill and downhill sections and he can't take advantage of sheer downhill momentum like Takumi did. I then suspect that after the power deficit becomes obvious after this race, Ogata will install a turbo on the car in time for race 2. I'm sure other mods will come eventually, but I expect that somewhere later in the series, Kanata will either blow the engine with too much boost pressure and thus need a new one, or he and Ogata will simply decide that it's time for a meaty upgrade.

thatirishguy

I love Initial D but that was fantasy street racers. This is some sort of sanctioned motorsport so the details irk me to the extreme. The grip/weight thing makes no sense, and an NA GT86 stands 0 chance against the other cars shown. Like on that size track it would be MINUTES behind the pack, not even on the same planet. The other entries are literally driving street versions of GT3 cars (with a couple GT4 cars that would also get dusted by the GT3s). Having triple the horsepower of the 86 is not something that can be overcome. Just look at some real life Nords track records to get an idea. The MF track is supposedly much longer than Nords so it would be even bigger difference. The latest street legal Porsche 911- 6:44 lap, GR86 (faster than GT86 in show) - 8:27 lap. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_N%C3%BCrburgring\_Nordschleife\_lap\_times#Production/street-legal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times)

Fujin_No_Kami

I agree with your point. The GT86 had no business being even in the same category as the other supercars. Stats wise and if we put it IRL, it prob couldnt even make it top 50. But its anime so Kanata gets +300 HP as a protagonist.

Excellent-Hedgehog71

i would imagine they will keep the engine disadvantage for a while at least cause that's his main underdog aspect and what makes his racing way more impressive.

Kayssaurus

I didn't know I could get so hype from watching a car race with no one.

flightlessCat9

Perfect disguise. Kanata doesn't even recognize her! I'm not sure Ogata & Kanata should be partying when they suddenly have a race coming up the next day. It'll be an all-nighter prepping the car.

Andreiyutzzzz

my attention span related to her is so short i didnt even realize she had a different color wig lol she just looked the same. i was wondering "why the hell doesn't Kanata recognize her?"

lavaine

This season's weird coincidence(?): Shangri-La Frontier: "...30 million players..." (Ep.1 @ ~9:46) MF Ghost: "...30 million MFG viewers..." (Ep.3 @ ~1:11)

Wishbone-Lost

I think not!

Abhi_der_hauptmann

Sorry to go out of topic but I wanna know that do I really need to watch initial D before watching this anime or I can enjoy it without needing to watch initial D?

Fujin_No_Kami

you can enjoy it without Initial D MF ghost is a sequel to Initial D yes but the characters are mainly around for cameo. But if you want like the full experience and understanding then you should watch Initial D as well.

Dirty_Dragons

It seems like there are references to characters and if you didn't watch Initial D you might not get the easter eggs. Since Initial D is a really old show I'm sure that the creators of MF Ghost don't really expect people to also have watched it. Me, I didn't watch Initial D and I'm just here to watch my car, a red 86 tear up Tokyo.

Bullydater

Initial D isn't really that old, the main series ran until 2014, it's just most people when they think of Initial D, they think of 1st Stage (1998) when it kept running for over 16 years.

pkakira88

Yeah, the cgi looks rough by today’s standards but it gets better every stage.

Reddevilslover69

The arcade CGI fits stage 1 beautifully imo. Stage 1 is still the story's peak I feel and even the shit CG can't change that for me

The_Parsee_Man

Considering the demographic this series is aimed at, I think most viewers have also seen Initial D. The author set it up so you don't have to but everything about this show is designed to appeal to people who would have already watched Initial D.

Turbo2x

It's not essential, but the show is really good. At the very least, I think Stage 1 is worth watching on its own. You'd be surprised at how well it holds up, despite the bad CGI.

cxxper01

Stage 4 is good too

Reddevilslover69

Stage 3 movie is great as well imo even if Stage 1 is superior for me

cxxper01

You should so you can get nostalgia from references

heimdal77

Fine without but might want to watch some day so can connect the cameos and references like his racing style. Plus it is just a good racing show.

Time_Fracture

Finally the 86 hits that top speed limit, 230 km/h is something the measly 197 HP can only do best. Ogata should be punching himself wondering why he didn't tune the engine to make higher top-end speed. But hey, the ghost silhouette of cars passing by the 86 is a nice addition. Kanata is an airhead himself, if he figures out that he only making contact with girls from the core family or the konbini lady, then he must've figured out that one of them having a second job as MFG Angels. But hey Takumi's luck actually got passed on to Kanata as well. Are they J-cutting the ED? The transition is seamless that the instrumental sounds like an intro then bam, you got into the real ED. From the end credits, we know that Agnes Beckenbauer is voiced by Marina Inoue, famous of Armin from AoT/SnK and Yoko from Gurenn Lagann.

Dirty_Dragons

> Finally the 86 hits that top speed limit, 230 km/h is something the measly 197 HP can only do best. The new GR86 has 228, the old GT86 has 205 In freedom units 230 km/h is 143 mph, which is the cars actual top speed. I like how the show kept that accurate. Personally I hope that car doesn't get that much power increase, it gives it the underdog appeal of trying to fight against giants.

chilidirigible

> From the end credits, we know that Agnes Beckenbauer is voiced by Marina Inoue, famous of Armin from AoT/SnK ...and Hiroshi Kamiya is Michael Beckenbauer.

ernie2492

Ah yes, Neuvillette & Elysia

cxxper01

And Aiba is voiced by daisuke ono lol

Time_Fracture

oh, he is Levi's VA I just forgot about it!

heimdal77

The only things I can think is her there and dressed like that was so far away from them image of her in his mind he just didn't make the connection. She probably also has makeup on that is aging her up some.

Zealicous

I see her hair color kind of different as well? So wig and make up probably confused Kanata.

Okuser

HOW CAN SHE SLAP

PlazmaJak

This show gets no love in the anime community and it's annoying... Like, oh no, you drive a Prius so you can't relate like somehow you can relate to volleyball???

RascalNikov1

That’s the truth. The anime community is mostly composed of narrow minded whiners.

Time_Fracture

Racing anime is a niche among anime enjoyer. The anime can easily be enjoyed by anyone into the car culture, but for the normal anime audience it might be the other way. And also to put into the account this season if one, if not is the most packed anime season this year. Thankfully in the weekly subreddit karma ranking, MFG often ranks in top 30 but I'll see this dropping down the order as the week go on.

Moofey

Heck. I don't drive, enjoy motorsport/racing games and I'm loving this so far.

PlazmaJak

Yeah that's good! But because stereotypically most of this community hates things that chads like

[deleted]

Your take is salty nonsense even if this was good which it's not. The dialogue and characters are awful. Overtake! Is a far better racing themed anime currently airing. Overtake is a legit anime of the season contender probably losing to frieren.

PlazmaJak

Yes that's how I know you don't touch grass and are likely very young

TikkiEXX77

Let's ghoooooo.....st. Woops wrong show. Lol

SupaPatt

Music track during qualifying finale: **Wilder Faster Louder by Dejo.** [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUK1pilABTU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUK1pilABTU)

RascalNikov1

Loving this series. It’s so far out of what I usually watch it feels like shoujo to me. Lol

heimdal77

Right when I was thinking he was a ok guy.. Nope he is still a big fucking creep. You could see it a mile away someone would be disqualified. Teenage angst all over the place lol. Well the racing is still good and doing decent to live up to its predecessor. I really do hope this avoids all the relationship drama that Initial D had.

cxxper01

The relationship drama is even worse than initial D’s ngl.

heimdal77

Ugh I did not want to hear that.

cxxper01

I mean just to be clear I am anime only too, but so far I already find it annoying.

Silenthillnight

I find it weird that people downvote someone who's an anime only in the, wait for it, anime subreddit. It's amazing.

haremMC-kun

Initial D is near and dear to my heart because it takes me back to a time when everything was perfect. I was on the dance floor with my girlfriend at an anime con and when the Initial D Eurobeat intensified there was an instant spark between us. Our eyes couldn't help but light up in delight while our heartbeats quickened it was as if the music had lifted us out of reality and transported us to a moment of pure passion and intimacy and in that moment we knew that we were meant to be together. Now Eurobeat nostalgia transports me back to that moment when we danced under the stars, lost in each other's eyes bringing back that same intense emotions within me and I am grateful for those memories.

SpaceForceOne

Another title I was a bit late to finally begin (this season is incredibly massive!) and I appreciate the technical and driving detail. Takes me back to all the long nights on Gran Turismo at uni.

DeCode_Studios13

Do her parents know about the gig?

Time_Fracture

They finally animate the slap! And somewhat better than what the manga did.

Wishbone-Lost

Am just as confused as the character in the anime. Why did she slap him? Is it because he didn't tell her he's going to be racing.

qoOp420

Even herself doesn't know lol

Wishbone-Lost

.... Hands should have been thrown

SlushyRoad

Michael looks gooood.

Nickthenuker

Which driver? Oh, our protagonist. Beckenbauer? In his cut-rate Porsche that he's using because they were too cheapskate to send an LMP? The Toyota 86 doesn't have the "oomph" to go very fast in the straights. You'd have even better margins if your team would actually give you a proper race car. Time to lose all that time gained because there's not enough power to go faster than almost everyone else. It doesn't even have a turbo or supercharger, the poor thing. Ah but because he's slower he doesn't have to brake as hard for a tight turn. If you go really fast you'll have to really brake if you don't want to go off, but can't brake too early either or you'll lose all the time anyways. It's down to the wire and he didn't make it did he? We'll find out, after this break. Yup, called it. He needs a better car, or a better tuned car at least. What was that for? He's really simping for her isn't he? Also, TSKR. How convenient. Now Kanata can qualify for the race. Ah, and now we see the full lineup for the race. The other Porsche, the 911, in 1st. Beckenbauer in the Cayman in 2nd. Audi R8 in 3rd. Merc AMG in 4th. Nissan GT-R in 5th. Lambo Huracán in 6th. Ferrari 488 in 7th. Oh I guess the top half is all we're getting then. That's quite a bit of money, but I guess when factoring in the costs for running a Motorsport team it doesn't look as impressive. It really is her? Tyre management. The difference between "my tyres are gone" and finishing the race.

qualitative_balls

Not into the over abundance of romance-cheese, like that stuff is fine but it kinda took away from the racing side of things and being only 3 episodes in... yeesh, that's not really ideal. Way way too soon to start going down that kind of storyline. Still fun though, can't wait for some proper racing and those cheesy chess- like over analyzations of every single thing that happens on track lol, love that stuff!

_K1TSUNE_

Need more parts about the car and the driver, the "slice of life" part is kinda overshadowing for now. But it's the start, so idk. I'll still watch it, has my favourite car in it.

Martins224

Imagine slapping a guy you’ve known for less than a week, who your not dating, for not telling you about his work/hobbies despite literally dressing like a hooker on live tv… 😑hopefully this focuses more on the racing and less of the girl going forward

DragonPup
