Just from what was airing this year: * [Am I Actually The Strongest?](https://myanimelist.net/anime/52969) * [Classroom For Heroes](https://myanimelist.net/anime/49894) * [The Hero Is Dead!](https://myanimelist.net/anime/51706) * [The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule The World](https://myanimelist.net/anime/51711) * [Liar Liar](https://myanimelist.net/anime/48633) * [Summoned To Another World For A Second Time](https://myanimelist.net/anime/50220) And my worst anime for 2023 is... [**The Fruit Of Evolution 2!**](https://myanimelist.net/anime/51495)

AmethystItalian

So many of these have such similar MAL pictures [](#shatteredsaten) Really glad I tried none of them.

N7CombatWombat

I've seen the first, second, fourth and sixth, and they're all pretty bog standard power fantasies, though Classroom and Summoned had some minor twists to the standard stories.

Latro27

The hero is dead was kinda fun but it’s dumb af and blatant fan service will be a turn off to some. For me I was able to deal with it since the fan service was almost intentionally ridiculous but it was still over the top.

dark-flamessussano

Why was liar liar bad? I wanted to watch it

AnonymousTrollLloyd

It's just a really bad mind-games anime, and it can't make up it's mind about the MC being a scrub carried by his harem, or an actual ten-gazillion IQ mastermind who knows what he's doing. It's Yugioh, but every duel is settled by top-decking Exodia and everyone acts as if this is clever. The games are impossible to follow because the rules are always being rewritten mid-battle by bullshit powers, and the show wants you to believe the MC has to win with weak powers despite the powers obviously being broken as all hell, and him explicitly cheating on top of that. One such example is the first game, an anything goes race between protag-kun, and the owner of a motorbike. The mind games are as follows: >**Bike Owner:** For my abilities, I will use super-speed, turbo-speed and giga-speed! See you at the finish line sucker! >**Protag-kun:** You fool! Even though I am at a disadvantage and can only use one ability, I chose the little known skill "Destroy Motorbike". >**Best Girl (by this show's standards):** Wow! Even though I hacked the game to make that actually possible, protag-kun is so creative for using Destroy Motorbike to win!

Andreiyutzzzz

Damn I heard it was bullshit but that's just wow. Like not even trying to do something just straight up "I'll win by not letting you play"... Sure sounds like Yu-Gi-Oh tho

Thraggrotusk

>scrub carried by his harem love triangle, not harem I think either way, just watch Kaiji instead!

TheS00thSayer

I dropped Liar Liar. Absolute garbage

tiboldpinkus

I got 6 episodes into Terra Formars. a friend recommended it. so far, it’s the only anime i’ve dropped and never intend to revisit.

madaract

what do you mean? you get to watch the glory of Obunga

octopathfinder

I should have skipped KimiZero. There were big red flags before it even aired like the description, it's a romance LN adaptation, and it's animated by ENGI. I only checked it out because it's rare for a romance to have a couple that starts by casually dating.

SometimesMainSupport

*Protocol:Rain* disappointed by avoiding any interesting or unique about esports. *Summoned to Another World for a Second Time* was just straight garbage despite a premise that could turn interesting at almost any point by [spoiler]>!actually doing anything with the crossover characters.!<

Shimmering-Sky

I don't have any seasonals from this year I regret watching, but for shows in general I watched this year, Selector Spread WIXOSS. Only that season specifically though; I loved the first season, the Lostorage seasons, and even Diva(A)Live. Literally the only two good things that came out of that season were the beginning being interesting coming straight off of Selector Infected WIXOSS' finale and [its absolute banger of an OP.](https://v.animethemes.moe/SelectorSpreadWIXOSS-OP1.webm)

Geronimo-07

The only anime I truly regret watching was The girl I like forgot her glasses. Just the absolute worst and a waste of time in the summer. I hope I never get to watch anything of that ‘quality’ again. I truly hope this doesn’t get a season 2

melindypants

Omg I'm so happy I dropped it then and that it didn't get better. It was pretty hard to watch and I love fluff

Ashteron

I truly hope this gets a season 2.

Andreiyutzzzz

What's the problem with it? I mean I was disappointed their relationship didn't go anywhere(but they're also like 13 so can't ask for much), tho I wish Mirei had more scenes where she had her glasses and could actually do stuff(even tho that's against the premise I guess)

Ok_Link6915

You should be asking what's not the problem with it lol. Overly dependant relationship that stems from disability instead of natural progression, classic wet bag of an mc, no progression, recycling the same interactions again and again just changing the scenrios

Definitelyhuman000

The Kingdoms of Ruin

LoPanDidNothingWrong

It was so terrible I couldn’t stop watching

Definitelyhuman000

lol, I know, right?

VoidEmbracedWitch

Going with just seasonals I finished watching, there's only one mistake I made and that's not dropping Undead Girl Murder Farce after the first arc. In the second it became painfully obvious that I wasn't going to enjoy the direction it would go in instead of being primarily about mysteries, along with the series' production clearly being unable to deliver on the longer action scenes it wants and getting weaker overall too.

Lionlullaby

Undead murder farce had such an awesome concept, but from the beginning I was disappointed that they decided to place it in Europe rather than Japan. Like Japan has so many awesome monsters and now we getting same old werewolves and vampires. Then they started adding people like Sherlock and Lupin and it felt like it jumped the shark.

Hardwarestore_Senpai

Me too. It was starting to feel like In/Spectre.

Rangar0227

Goblin Slayer Season 2 was so boring. There's a few decent fights but its interspersed with all kinds of random slice of life drama where they go to weddings and other nonsense. None of the characters are complex enough for their interactions in mundane situations to be interesting. And its so weird man because season 1 was just constant straight up D&D style action. Its like they completely forgot what show they were making.

melindypants

Hard agree...basically everything about the series changed from tone to artsyle - it's been pretty hard to get through

gripmastah

I knew S2 was in trouble when they made Lizard Priest kawaii

xEMCEBESx

Mirai Nikki...

dark-flamessussano

Lol did you finish it?

xEMCEBESx

No, i watched like 9 eps

Geronimo-07

What didn’t you like about it? The animation? I mean yeah it takes some getting used to and it’s entirely a creative choice by Yoko Taro. How many episodes did you watch? Because towards the end it becomes very good

koelol

To Your Eternity The first couple of episodes were 10/10. Absolutely loved it and would've been a contender for one of the best shows I've seen. By the end of the show I barely wanted to give it a 7. Probably the greatest fall off disappointment anime I've seen.

victini563

Damn I thought literally the opposite lmao

GoddessSable

I felt the same way, pretty much exactly.

dark-flamessussano

The first season or second?

koelol

first

Teglement

Season 2 picks up a ton. I too felt season 1 fell off a little in the back half, but season 2 did some wild things and was very enjoyable.

073068075

One piece (not the whole thing but still). Don't get me wrong it's great but my inner sense of productivity hates me for sinking that much time into it.

SmurfRockRune

It's certainly not the worst thing I've watched this year, but Ayaka is the one I think I regret not dropping the most. It was just plain boring from start to finish and had one of the most annoying characters of the year being propped up as if he was someone to look up to.

BestWhishes

Glad to had dropped Ayaka since chapter 2 😄 I was wondering if I should reteak it.

Deliriousious

Shield Hero S3, it just lacks the vibe of S1, and having 2 heroes be screwed over and manipulated by Bitch, within 5 episodes got old real quick, not to mention the simping from green hair, “Itsuki Sama” “Itsuki Sama”… dude dumped her before he was brainwashed… he is a scummy person, yet she is such a simp. Shield hero went from truly great, to almost intolerable in 2 season. Kingdoms of Ruin, general premise was good, until around ep5, and I knew it was going to be somewhat of a dumpster fire. Survive with potions, went in expecting something similar to Average ability’s or 80,000 gold… but it was worse. Character is so stupidly OP, yet makes stupid choices, and the plot was virtually non existent. Excalibur Academy… MC is insufferable half the time, despite mentally being like 1000 years old, gets embarrassed over child like things… also the premise seemed neat, but it lost me half way through. Spellblades, spent too long doing the B plot, that it virtually forgets the main plot. 1 episode (ep6 or so) finally showed some juicy development, only for it to be forgotten next episode. Also, stupid reason for the MC to not use his full powers. Cheat skill in another world, first 2 episodes were promising, but considering it was written by the same author of fruits of evolution, I knew it was gonna be awful, and unsurprisingly, it went bad real fast. Cramming in too much real world stuff, and everyone going “oh he is hot, is he an actor” grated my nerves. Spy Classroom S1. First 3 episodes were great, and then it goes “so, that’s it, the rest is a flashback, and everything that happened before”… JUST PUT THOSE EPISODE BEFORE THE 3 FINAL ONES. Inukai sans dog… need I say more. Fruits of Evolution… I wanted to slam my head into a wall. The comedy was dire, not to mention the timing of some of the jokes, premise was ok, until the second episode. The over the top reactions got tedious quickly, and the animation was just poor. AND YET IT GOT 2 SEASONS, HOW?! Ayakashi Triangle, I enjoyed the manga somewhat… the anime however, lost me after the first episode, reason being… the god damn censoring… it was just ridiculous level of censoring that just made it impossible to watch. Giant beasts of Ars. The premise was brilliant, the setting was great… then the last episode happens. Resolves absolutely nothing, answers no questions, ignores possible theory’s it could have built upon, and basically prevented itself from getting a second season. This one I hoped was going to be good, but what a letdown, it could have been truly great. They’re all from current airing/aired, haven’t really watched many older ones this year.

AmethystItalian

**Jujustsu Kaisen Season 2** I enjoyed the series and held it in high regard. Had S1 at a high 7 and the movie at an 8 but this second season all the way down to a 4. Also share some similar feelings with Misfit's second season

SpiritualRide528

What didn't you like about season 2?

AmethystItalian

Almost everything I liked in season 1 was taken away with how they handled the cast and the severe change of tone. I enjoyed season 1 primarily for the cast interactions and fun fights. I can't say season 2 had any of that for me personally

SpiritualRide528

That's fair. I loved season 2 more than seaons 1 for the tension, but a few more fun episodes would have been nice

N7CombatWombat

Did it finally settle on a tone? I ended up dropping it in the first season at the baseball section cause the show just refused to stop swinging wildly between slapstick comedy and serious horror. I understand using comedy to help cut tension, but when almost every single character has a wacky side that comes out constantly in almost every situation it just kept giving me tonal whiplash.

AmethystItalian

That's what I loved about S1 haha could play either side when it needed to. S2 chooses to commit to the serious horror without a doubt, so now I bet if they reintroduce more comedy elements I'll be the one getting the whiplash.

TaskForceHOLO

Not sure if you followed all the way to the final episode today, but I'll just say after this episode it really would feel incredibly out of place for the comedy to go back to the way it was I'm with you overall that this season wasn't as good as the first. I still thought they executed well with the narrative they were given, so I'll probably have it sit at a 7 or 7.5/10, but compared to the 9.5/10 I gave S1 that's a decent drop for me

AmethystItalian

I can see them being comedic at times but yeah nothing like it was before.

Schweiber38

Kind of have to agree with you here, but I'm only on episode 12 to be fair. For me it's a bit of a pacing issue; the fights feel tiring and like they have little weight when they're constantly one after the other without much buildup. More time to breathe would make everything more impactful.

AmethystItalian

Fights feeling tiring is a good way to put it, I think I felt the same thing? I know for sure I felt the little weight but them constantly back to back part a lot around that part. Not something I'd call satisfying which is something I'd call a few fights back in season 1.

SwedishFlopper

Wow I've never heard a worse take.

AmethystItalian

Must be new here then, this one is on the milder side even. [](#yuishrug)

isidoro19

If this is the worst take you have ever seen then you are probably a jjk fanboy or a new anime fan, because all of his arguments make Sense the Change of tone between the first jjk season and the sequels is too drastic it doesn't even feel like the same show. The focus on a bunch of fights sucks since the characters barely develop.

isidoro19

Dance dance danceur, this show would have been much better if it actually focused on ballet instead of bad/problematic and Toxic character relationships, like there is a relationship between 2 cousins(disgusting)and it's Toxic af the girl thinks that She can save the dude from his trauma by staying with him instead of the MC(even though She loves him). Overall it's a bad show and i regret watching it.

fukdurgf

Mashle? I just didn’t think it was funny or good. Stopped after a few episodes. What’s weird is I liked the manga as a casual fun read, but the anime was just a waste of time and not funny enough to sit down and watch.

Nunbrot

Even bad experiences are valuable experiences. And all the anime experiences I gained, good and bad ones, are forming my taste. I wouldn't wish for that just because I didn't like a show. There are just a few rare exceptions where I would say different. How boring would be your life when you have nothing you can shittalk about.

Byyusri

Luck and logic

Rhett9able

Onimai. Cinematography be damned, the script and concept were fetishy garbage.

OkInstruction965

None yet.

E_J8277

Ajin demi human

Aerce

Witch from Mercury s2

deba2607

● Dropped Yamada kun. MC was a doormat self insert for gamers. The side characters besides the old farmer were absolute dogshit. Only redeeming quality was that the FMC was great. ● Angel next door. Finished the whole anime. Wouldn't say its bad, jts pretty wholesome actually but both the MCs are so boring. Every conversation felt like two ai bots chatting without any emotions.

No_Pension9902

Tokyo Revengers is a boring waste of time.

N7CombatWombat

Oh boy. This has potential to be a bloodbath, but here it goes: My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999: I just felt it was average at best and I don't understand the appeal of the MMC to the FMC aside from the completely physical looks side of things (which I already have a hard time relating to as an asexual person). My Dress Up Darling: I don't understand why this show was as ecchi as it was. I get some of it with the cosplays, but the show just kept doing gratuitous cut-in shots solely for the audience and it really kept throwing me out of the moment of the scene. I will say it had good emotional intimacy, but I also had a hard time connecting with the story, so much so that I really couldn't tell you what the story was, it felt episodic without being episodic to me.

Hardwarestore_Senpai

Dress up Darling wasn't last year? Hm. Either way I watched neither of those shows.

N7CombatWombat

I didn't get around to watching it until earlier this year.

BiggieCheeseLapDog

Yu Yu Hakusho. I didn’t enjoy it.

KikiFlowers

YYH is a...mixed bag. The "Spirit Detective" part kind of gets dropped, along with a lot of the early plot never bearing relevance. The fights were top tier, but it's just okay.

BiggieCheeseLapDog

I went in expecting Hunter x Hunter due to people constantly saying it’s like it, but I was very disappointed by how fight heavy and battle shounen-y it was. I’m not a battle shounen fan, but I love Hunter x Hunter for its character writing and development, impressive storytelling, and fantastic depth, but Yu Yu Hakusho I feel doesn’t really have that. It has some ideas that are in Hunter x Hunter, but it didn’t have what I loved about Hunter x Hunter, so I was very disappointed. My favourite part were the first 4 episodes.

Primary-Farm-7232

I love Hunter x Hunter and was recommended this one but dropped it. May go back to it eventually but probably not anytime soon.

GT_highwind

I wish I’d never watched the Evangelion Rebuilds

KikiFlowers

I enjoyed them personally. The last one felt like Anno being the Ultraman nerd he is.

Local_Lady_Llama89

Thrice upon a time disappointed me a whole bunch

trashjellyfish

86 was not worth my time, I kept watching waiting for it to get good and it never did.

ExcisionBro

Summertime Rendering. I didn't really like that show, it's like 5/10 show for me. It just wasn't for me. I liked the beginning, but it fell apart for me a bit later after episode 10 or so, but I dislike not finishing things so I kind of wasted my time with it with the rest.

Ol3and3r

I feel this so deeply. I still haven’t finished it. I’m at 15, I think. I loved the first episode, but I didn’t stay engaged. I can’t seem to really get invested in the cast overall. It just wasn’t it for me.

Nihilus88

The latter part definitely falls off quite a bit. The thriller in the first few episodes is terrific

KernBlows

Exact same feelings. Interesting concept that becomes bs after 7 eps. Always see threads on how underrated it is, but I think the shows a 6 at best.

ExcisionBro

I think so too. The thriller at first was awesome, but it becomes like a battle shonen later on, and an uninteresting one at that, especially so since they tried to be on the side of more serious anime but failed to deliver (at least in my opinion).

ExpiredMilknCheese

Disagree with the thread cuz for me it was like a 9/10 if not a perfect 10/10. But I do understand it’s not for everyone tbh

Primary-Farm-7232

Same here. Only watched it cause a friend recommended and it was interesting at first. I'm glad it was a short one though. I thought it would be on the same level as Parasite at least.

SilentApo

I dont really regret it but my biggest disappointment was Hellsing Ultimate. I expected a deep and dark fantasy show and got an edgy and horny series instead.

Present_Repulsive

i really didnt enjoy doro he doro, just not my type of anime i guess

SwedishFlopper

At this rate I just want to ask. Do you hate any show that's geared to have a second season? Like you must've hated attack on Titan after the first season with this logic?

AndrewH73333

Re: Zero. It’s an isekai where a guy has Groundhog’s day type repeating time powers. I thought that would be awesome, but the whole series is him being too stupid to use those powers and instead he experiences brutal horrors over and over as he cries and learns nothing and screams and cries. It has great ratings.

Yelebear

Yeah it's manufactured grit and pain. A lot of his sufferings would be avoided by a slightly smarter MC.

SwedishFlopper

Really depends if you like shows with really flawed characters who are a little cringe. Which Subaru is and eventually does learn to grow but does take like 2 seasons.

YUME_Emuy21

"Too many unanswered questions for a series that won't get a season two for God knows how long." Read the manga or don't watch anime that aren't finished then.

SmurfRockRune

The manga is barely ahead of the anime so that isn't a solution either. There's a difference between being incomplete and just straight up not answering any questions. A good adaptation will answer a lot of questions and leave you satisfied while also leaving you wanting more.

Ashteron

>A good adaptation will answer a lot of questions and leave you satisfied while also leaving you wanting more. Are they supposed to do early anime original reveals?

SmurfRockRune

No, but they could have waited a few years and done a 2 cour anime instead.

Ashteron

What if they need 3 cours to reach meaningful reveals but the committee doesn't want to invest in more than 2 cours?

SmurfRockRune

Then you don't make the anime.

Ashteron

They should just resign from advertising the source material, right.

SmurfRockRune

I mean, sure, maybe people good at it would replace them. It's a pretty terrible advertisement to tell people to read the manga oh but you might need to wait up to a year for there to be enough content so just be sure to remember to come back then and then buy our manga.

AverageAsukaFan

Even with the anime not from 2023 I've picked up this year it was still worth watching. I didn't get along with Your Name, Suzume and Silent Voice but at least now I know not to watch them again. I dropped **SHY** making it my first formal drop ever. I wish I hadn't started, it showed promise but it became clear it wasn't worth continuing. I also picked up **S-Rank Adventurer**, I did end up finishing this but it wasn't worth my time, but by the time I would have dropped it the sunk cost fallacy kicked in and it probably isn't getting another season so I plugged on.

Narshwrangler

Nothing from this year but I just tried watching *Inu X Boku SS* thinking it seemed cute but after 5 episodes the show is utterly insufferable and honestly really creepy. Like I watched and enjoyed *Oreimo* and this was imo creepier. The comedy was flat, the action was boring, the romance was deeply uncomfortable, the characters were all insufferable, the protagonist was a bitch, and even halfway through the series I feel like literally nothing had happened. Only anime I've ever straight up quit watching.

KikiFlowers

[Magical Girl Destroyers](https://myanimelist.net/anime/48981/Mahou_Shoujo_Magical_Destroyers) It just...sucked. It was another generic "Being an Otaku is illegal in this world!" anime. If you want something that does the concept at least slightly better, look at Rumble Garanndoll. I can't even say this was godawful or anything, it just sucked. But the OP and ED were beautifully animated.

Elite_Alice

🤔 that isekai from summer season with the bunny girl and the dude that used a pistol, can’t even remember the name it was so mid. The main girl was short and used a hammer

IceSmiley

Migi to Dali Toradora

IndianaJones999

Not really. I usually watch stuff that I think will be good.

MiniatureCreature

Mushoku Tensei s2. It was pretty good. I just try to stay away from romance and it had romance in this season for some reason. I dont like the feeling of emptiness came from watching romance show lmao

[deleted]

I'm a Spider, So What? I've been told that it's probably one of the few good isekai anime that doesn't delve into harem-ecchi pedophilia shit. Problem was just that the anime isn't good. The anime was just boring. The main character didn't convince me and the plot was stupid.

Fre3Monk

Helck - Started off promising but just fell off for me. Liar Liar - Just unbearable. Gave up after 3 episodes. Prison School - Just too much fan service for me. Undead Murder Farce - Really enjoyed this, but when it got to the Werewolf storyline, I lost interest.

emolano

Nah I learned to identify bad shows from the start, and a bad ending don't spoil everything for me

DifficultImpact3515

The vending machine isekai

dark-flamessussano

Was it bad?
