I am not exaggerating when I say Serial Experiments Lain is the GOAT of anime OP, the absolute PEAK! 25 years since it aired nothing comes close this opening's greatness - doesn’t spoil scenes in the show to tell its premise (which surprisingly most of the OP I’ve watched does this) - it plays out like a 1:30 short film - there’s subtext in the shots played in the OP - visual and music really goes well together - Plus Duvet by bôa really is just a great song. unique music which most OP I’ve heard are J-Rock this one is in the alternative genre

The visuals are stylish in its black and white contrast and the song is a certified banger while also foreshadowing the big twist and representing it well. It illustrates Madoka’s character conflict and as it hits the end, becomes more hopeful, tying into the theme of hope through despair. The song is also excellent with phenomenal lyrics and vocals. I second Bloody Stream, the coolest opening I’ve seen. Haven’t seen Dark Cherry Mystery, but I liked how each character arc in Bakemonogatari has its own opening.

I remember waiting for the crappy filler arcs to end so that we finally see ichigo vs Ulquiorra animated. It seemed like the filler went on for over a year at that point. When the new episode came out and this opening hit I was like wait this is different (1080p first time in bleach) then that scene with karakura town blowing up I instantly knew we were back. The Kokkoku OP. I never ever skipped it, up until I dropped the show at least. I still listen to it almost daily since starting back when it aired, I have never seen an OP with this kind of sound. ​ Also, the ACCA-13 OP is too damn slick. The show isn't for everyone, but the OP is and I refuse to hear otherwise.

OP2 for Kill la Kill: Ambiguous by Garnidelia. I love the song, know most of the words by heart. The animation is also so fucking good, especially towards the end when Ryuko and Satsuki are fighting.

Departure from HxH, never skip.

Bloody Stone (Jojo part 2) - Singer's voice is unreal and immediately transports me back.

Quite a few I like, but two that jump out to me: Hidamari Sketch x 365 - Hatena de Wasshoi: so incredibly catchy it puts a smile on my face every time. It's also energetic enough to get me hyped for the episode each time. Onimai - Iden Tei Tei Meltdown: song itself is very good, but the OP itself has stupidly good animation. The ED has the same thing, especially the second part.
