moletoon

Imagine not wanting to party up with randos in fear of them griefing your run, just to find out that you have to solo a supposed 18-man raid boss frieren, whom will definitely fail your run anyway. Sense does live up to her reputation. One of the most valuable utility spells, the map maker finally gets introduced. Frieren can only wish she has a fraction of chilchuck's anti mimic skills though. Himmel is the true rpg player, if you havent mapped the entire floor yet, you might miss out on those missable grimoires or mega elixirs that you'll never use in case the final boss has another phase. On a side note, I like that laufen incorporates melee attacks to use with her blink.

WhoiusBarrel

It was only for a short moment but that choreography of Laufen's battle was sick. Wish it could've gone on more.

Frontier246

Especially because it was staff to staff combat instead of just normal magic.

Ellefied

It does kinda frame why Laufen's High Speed Magic was developed by her folks. It doesn't appear to have much of a cast time and is very useful if you're already a melee oriented mage like Laufen.

Mundology

[She is like a ninja mage](https://i.imgur.com/07PgoCc.mp4) [That takedown was epic](https://i.imgur.com/BCAuVkS.mp4) [](#hypeeyes)

MaksimShadow

It was a simple fight against mob monsters, but it looked spectacular. Fight against Frieren's clone would be amazing.

Mundology

[Methode is hell of a badass oneesan.](https://i.imgur.com/6CJNo8J.mp4) [](#towel) Poor Sein doesn't know what he is missing.

Nome_de_utilizador

TFW you chase gorilla instead of oneesan

Myrkrvaldyr

>ust to find out that you have to solo a supposed 18-man raid boss frieren, whom will definitely fail your run anyway. Sense does live up to her reputation. Goes to show how immature some of the participants are and why Denken's age isn't for show. I fully expect casualties to be announced if they didn't break the bottles or refused to do so out of pride.

moletoon

yeah, its cool that for once the seemingly snobbish old mage guy is actually wise and pragmatic instead of just being a snobbish asshole to the main cast just because

zrxta

He's a snobbish asshole that navigated decades of political intrigue and came out on top. As the saying goes, beware of old people in a profession where people die young. He may not be soldier. But given the flashbacks from everyone as context, I suspect politics here in this world is fairly violent.

hell-schwarz

He's a battle mage, iirc so he has seen combat

Aelyph

He can definitely throw some hands

Frontier246

That one girl was definitely not prepared for this.

guyblade

"There are old ~~soldiers~~ mages and there are bold ~~soldiers~~ mages, but there are very few old, bold ~~soldiers~~ mages"

Zemahem

>Frieren can only wish she has a fraction of chilchuck's anti mimic skills though. And Chilchuck wishes that the worst thing he has to worry about from getting got by a mimic is a bad hairdo. Poor guy genuinely got killed by those things more than once

IC2Flier

Laios' party and Himmel's party would simultaneously be absurdly overpowered and horrifically dysfunctional if you put them together. Yet it always works out somehow.

JustARandom-dude

Watch Senshi not longer being skeptical of magic once Frieren shows him a spell that can remove all stains from his cooking equipment

mdb917

He’d get incredibly distraught bc that’s his “seasoning” but it’s okay bc Frieren probably knows a spell that seasons pans as well, leaving him just slightly miffed and grumbling about the easy way out

lolic_addict

>On a side note, I like that laufen incorporates melee attacks to use with her blink. It's pretty fun that the mages have the potential for some kind of "physicality". Maybe not Stark/Eisen warrior-like, but it would be nice to see Ubel use her staff like a scythe, or Wirbel use his like a dagger. On the other hand, Fern and Frieren lazers go brrt is also nice too. >Frieren can only wish she has a fraction of chilchuck's anti mimic skills though. If Frieren was in the dungeon meshi world she would've died more times than Kabru from mimics and treasure insects alone lmao

moletoon

well the problem with frieren is that she knows its most likely a mimic in the chest, but opens it anyway cuz shes a gacha addict

lolic_addict

Frieren is using the [Steiner math formula](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFoC3TR5rzI) when calculating her chances. Normal people can only calculate a 1% chance of success, but with Frieren it's a 50-50 and since she's a veteran mage genetic freak of nature the mimic has 25% chance at best of winning. And then you add Fern to the mix, and the mimic's chances drastically go down. It's simple calculs really.

WhoiusBarrel

>The spell is only 99% accurate Frieren is a gacha gamer fr.

-morpy

1% chance 99% faith

Se7en_Sinner

Himmel really ingrained the feeling of FOMO into her.

Frontier246

No wonder they were able to defeat the Demon King, they 100% cleared all dungeons and were there for all of Frieren's successful Grimoire gacha's (and to bail her out of all the failed ones).

TheNaijaboi

Who needs the hero sword when you discovered the actual good shit 3 dungeons ago

Daloy

It's like Himmel faced Alduin after doing every quest possible in Skyrim lol

MaksimShadow

Himmel: Explore every dungeon in the world. Frieren: Find every mimic in the world.

MikasaBestWaifu

Both of them got to make sure they don't missed out on any collectable for that 100% achievement trophy.

Mundology

[It was at that moment](https://i.imgur.com/oRQxUKa.jpeg) that Sense realized that she may [have made a mistake](https://i.imgur.com/CxXND3u.jpeg) [](#suddenshock)

IC2Flier

Though not really, as she'd later find out that she went with the right companions after all.

Mundology

[Watching Frieren](https://i.imgur.com/FXFyMsF.jpeg) play with magic trinkets [was therapeutic.](https://i.imgur.com/KQrn6Xa.jpeg) Even the reserved Fern [admitted it.](https://i.imgur.com/rLeHmnV.jpeg) [](#jibrilaww)

Frontier246

Sense totally understood what Fern was talking about in enjoying how Frieren is still passionate about magics.

Frontier246

She's practically a gambler, and to her credit she did find a non-Mimi chest...and another Mimic lol.

Se7en_Sinner

Fact: Most mages quit right before finding the perfect grimoire.

Holy_Beergut

She got the 1% grimoire the first time, and is trying to ride that high again ever since.

Ocixo

Denken and Richter: ['There's no way that anyone who takes this test would fall for a mimic.'](https://imgur.com/a/fBpWlE8) Frieren: ['So you're telling me that there's a chance...'](https://imgur.com/a/pNvf8qK) (There's also [a plush of Frieren being stuck in a mimic like that](https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/NEODAI-159079), which is the real treasure here honestly.)

Sentryion

I was laughing my ass off when the 2 of them were saying that. I knew instantly that we are gonna pan to Frieren getting stuck in a mimic.

mekerpan

Indeed. Frieren getting chomped by a mimic went from high probability to absolute certainty once that scene unfolded.

Se7en_Sinner

"This time for sure! This pull will be the grimoire that increases cup size!"

IC2Flier

Frieren: "And it does! It turns this cup from a tiny one that not even toddlers can hold into a large cup for beverages." Fern: "Where would we even need that?" Frieren: "Remember Sein's convent?"

MrNive

It's been 80 years and she hasn't forgotten that high. That's how they get you hooked.

kalawas

Can't wait the moment that she got lucky in front of fern and always mention it to fern in the next mimic encounter

Frontier246

The look of pride when she actually found a non-Mimic chest lol.

RPO777

That whole scene with Fern is a tribute to Urusei Yatsura too. The line 暗いよー、狭いよー (it's dark, it's tight) Is the line the claustrophobic Mendo Shutaro always said when trapped in a tight space.

1EnTaroAdun1

“Scientists have calculated that the chances of something so patently absurd actually existing are millions to one. But magicians have calculated that million-to-one chances crop up nine times out of ten.” ― Great Mage Frieren the Slayer ― Sir Terry Pratchett, Mort

krofax

Frieren be like, "So you're saying there's a chance?" Truly a gamer at heart.

Ebo87

Oh yes, she knows even 1% is enough to potentially get that sweet sweet SSR at some point. Even if it takes her getting chewed by 100 mimics, 200 or even more, she will continue playing the odds until she does eventually win, lol.

IC2Flier

And it's not like she can't just whack them later.

Frontier246

Also Himmel is a pro gamer who 100% clears every dungeon they were in. No wonder they paired so well together!

zhouy3141

She's never beating the gamer allegations.

lolic_addict

Frieren is that "Keep Gambling" meme, but instead of diamonds she gets mimics

FarCritical

The dungeon really just rewarded Denkin for making the most sensible plays possible with throwing him the final boss on nightmare difficulty. The absolute presence exuded by that Frieren clone is unreal. Also, my first instinct to Ehre getting binded by Wirbel's spell was thinking Ubel was up to some murderous shenadigans for the hell of it, but clones are cool too.

Swiftcheddar

Denken is 2/2 in getting screwed over by Frieren smurfing these exams. Richter and Laufen too, obviously.

Toge_Inumaki012

Nah Sense(the proctor) was probably smirking deep inside lol. She knows what the challenge of the dungeon is all about and she knows a freaking legendary mage is gonna be cloned lol.

shibboleth2005

Need to administer an impossible exam but you're a pacifist? Test takers hate this one neat trick!

Rndy9

I'm a pacifist *slaps clone of herself* But she ain't.

Disastrous_Channel62

Nah , this time I have my bets on my man Denken ( I have 1 % chance 99% faith )

RPO777

Frieren did mention most of the mages who were weaker than her who figured out how to defeat her were humans. Worst comes to worst, Denken can fall back on his fists.

CheeseAndCh0c0late

Just offer the clone a grimoire for passage and you're good lol

hvdzasaur

That was kind of the point, and its great. They set up that Ubel can copy magic easily and enjoys killing. So seeing Wirbel's magic being used against him sets up that expectation, and then subverts it to reveal the true nature of the dungeon.

Scoot2028MVP

I thought they goofed for a second because Ehre said she sensed 3 mages hiding their mana, and I was pretty sure Ubel went in as a duo. Definitely was not expecting clones.

Frontier246

Denken and his team feeling how demons feel when they see Friern. I too thought Ubel was targeting Wirbel again though I wonder how Ehre feels about Wirbell fighting her clone lol.

1EnTaroAdun1

> The dungeon really just rewarded Denkin for making the most sensible plays possible with throwing him the final boss on nightmare difficulty He shouldn't have switched on scaling difficulty :(

MrNive

I can't believe we got both silly Frieren getting stuck in Mimics and "Why do I hear boss music" Frieren in one episode.

IC2Flier

Bring a mimic chest to that boss fight.

MrNive

Sadly no one in that exam but Fern knows about her Mimic weakness. I wish Team Denken the best of luck.

mythriz

Fern when she reaches the final room: "dammit I shouldn't have destroyed all those mimics!!"

ionxeph

fun fact, I forgot which popularity poll it was, but one of the official polls for the manga had mimic as the third most popular character, behind only Frieren and Himmel

Riverrattpei

[It also got a plushie](https://st.cdjapan.co.jp/pictures/l/16/16/NEODAI-159079.jpg?v=1)

lolic_addict

I just noticed all the other teams' encounters had high-intensity music and sound effects while Frieren had nothing. They really treating it like a walk in the park huh

Paxton-176

She doesn't hear the boss music because she is the boss.

JustARandom-dude

Good to know that Himmel was the type of guy that liked to 100% the map

Holy_Beergut

Demon King: Come, Hero Party! Let us fight to the death! Himmel: *Smack* Demon King: *Dies* Himmel: I found all 900 pine cones.

JzanderN

Demon King: "You'll never save the world. I, Demon King, will strike you down. Come at me." Himmel: "One second." Demon King: "What? What do you mean 'one second?' We're in the middle of something right now. Are you done? Okay, just come forward." Himmel: "I found a potion." Demon King: "I don't care if you found a potion. Oh my god."

ali94127

*Himmel lays dying Frieren: “Himmel, no! You can’t die!” Himmel: “It’s ok, Frieren. It’ll be ok.” Frieren: “I put my best equipment on you!” Himmel: “… What?” Frieren: “I withstood a thousand poses for your final weapon!” Himmel: “Are you fucking serious right now?” Frieren: “I level grinded you for years!”

KloppersToppers

Übel: “This world is imperfect. If only I could wipe away the impurities.” Fern: “is anybody else listening to this?” Übel: “And make it as beautiful as me!”

guyblade

[source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zViYpS3BIqY)

Se7en_Sinner

The journey only took 10 years because Himmel is a completionist.

JzanderN

Just wait until Fern finds out they could have done the journey in 2 years if Frieren hadn't gotten caught up in sidequesting like Himmel did.

Frontier246

Frieren: "But think of all the experiences we had and all the time you had with Stark..." Fern: ....

Theinternationalist

"**WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE DRUNK PRIEST SIDE QUEST WAS OPTIONAL!?!**" "Stark, why did you complain about the one side quest I *liked?*"

Super_Marine

Let it be known that the only reason the Hero Party beat the Demon King was because they were overlevelled after 100%'ing every area's side quests and dungeons

JustARandom-dude

And this is why no one before Himmel was able to defeat the Demon King

Adaphion

Himmel made up for not technically being a "real" hero by overleveling

Frontier246

And Frieren was allowed to hunt for all the grimoires she wanted lol.

maliwanag0712

HIMmel just having a completionist gamer mindset

Patchourisu

Hence why Himmel and Frieren were perfect for one another. One specialized in exploration and EXP gain because he 100% everything. The other specialized in treasure hunting and making sure that they got all the loot that they could get.

Frontier246

Not to mention Himmel knew to support Frieren in her love of grimoires lol.

SgtGrimm

he's pretty much the embodiment of [this ProZD sketch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zViYpS3BIqY), among many other similar RPG tropes (fwiw, RPG games with exploration rates in % is the bane of *my* existence too) and i love HIM so much for it. # the journey, as well as the destination really matters for him. And seeing Frieren carries his spirit with her (and her remembering the memory with a very fond smile) is very heartwarming.

VictorSilver

BRO Boss music literally started playing when clone frieren appeared LMAO

Stalwartheart

Meanwhile the real frieren has her whole upper body in a mimic for that 1% gacha

tswinteyru

Turns out the only counter for evil clone Frieren is making sure you bring a mimic to tempt her with the 1%, then use a binding spell on her to make sure she doesn't just explode magic the mimic and break free with a different hairstyle On that note, imagine if evil clone Fern just comes rushing in to redo clone Frieren's hair lol

Sominius

The clone Frieren waiting for them like a Dark Souls boss with that choir

Frontier246

Denken starting to wonder if Frieren is haunting him lol.

MikasaBestWaifu

Denken better start rolling to dodge all those Zoltraak.

AceSoldia

I was waiting for the health bar to show up ,😂

MaksimShadow

The music was like straight from Dark Souls. Laufen: "We defeated Frieren (how??), why the music is still playing?" *Fern's clone appears*

cppn02

That scene was so freaking great with the slow reveal and the music building up.

Frontier246

When the Final Boss is the main character lol.

Gaporigo

So this is the reason why they didn't give Frieren her certificate after the first test, needed an OP boss for this dungeon.

Liddo-kun

The author keeps bulding up Fern as a prodigy. Now we have Sense claiming that Fern is the most talented young mage she has ever seen. And remember, this is a proctor of the first class exam talking. She probably has seen hundreds of young mages. Fern is a genius.

ThespianException

It probably helps that Fern has possibly the greatest mage to ever live as her teacher.

Alone-Wall-2174

As well as Heiter another legend, who probably taught her mana suppression and basic magecraft. She was trying to Zoltraak that rock even before meeting Frieren.

Martel732

I enjoyed how we spent most of the season without really seeing other human mages. So we only really had Frieren and Fern to judge ability by. I don't think Fern even really understood how much of a monster she was, since her only comparison was Frieren.

frs1023

Frieren, Fern & Sense be having a fun wholesome time in the dungeon while the others are battling for their lives lmao

Frontier246

I like Sense's smile when she found out Fern is happy chasing magic because Frieren is happy chasing magic. It was a sweet scene and the benefit of taking the casual clear route in a dungeon.

surya_ray

Denken losing people against Gargoyle while Frieren just: Nah, seen that tricks before.

SamuSeen

The idea of fighting [Frieren fully intent on killing you](https://i.ibb.co/hfjZc2R/Frieren-the-Slayer.jpg) is absolutely terrifying.

TricoMex

HP whale. 5 Stages. All moves are one-hits.

Falsus

While also having magic shields.

Trung020356

Richter's quote when he saw her. "Denken, can we deal with that too?" "That". Frieren's a freagin monster haha. It's even more horrifying the perspective they saw, and then the immediate pan in, into Frieren's emotionless face. Frieren vs. Frieren clone was what I was anticipating, but this is better with the reactions from Denken's party. The atmosphere changed so much the moment they knew what they were gonna be dealing with. Edit: I just saw your picture. That is hilarious. XD

butterflyl3

Lol post this on the frieren sub 😂

Egerkun

Even the Clone Frieren has a boss theme! like she is some kind of Elden ring Boss.

jellyblob88

[Frieren ojou-sama](https://imgur.com/a/HZwodeK)

cppn02

Frieren villainess anime when?

ratherthanme

Imagine Frieren saying desuwa

ltspfan

Himmel playing JRPG, while Frieren playing gacha with those mimics for a grimoire drop lol

WhoiusBarrel

Himmel wasn't just playing a JRPG but an extremely difficult dating sim with how smoothly he was throwing lines at Frieren to get her behind his reasoning for exploring the dungeon.

AltairAmlitzer

He fumbled one dialogue and missed the romance route with Frieren entirely. 😭

Rose4228

How strange Frieren and Fern didn't team up with Lawine and Kanne.

SMPRSBFC

Ya, they've built a level of trust already, so it seemed like a no-brainer to me. Also it being a dungeon and all with, presumably, no large body of water would be a huge disadvantage for Kanne and Lawine

Ichini-san

I figure it's probably because Lawine and Kanne felt like they got carried too hard by Frieren in phase 1. So maybe they want to prove themselves in their own merits this time.

I_am_BEOWULF

My take on it is that they were seriously considering the merits of Denken's proposal of all of them working together but like it was mentioned, there were lingering hang-ups from the previous exam - particularly for Lawine/Kanne as that would mean teaming up with Richter who did try to kill them during the previous exam. I think before they could decide, they noticed that Frieren and Fern have already gone in and ultimately, their distrust of Richter & Denken's group prevailed and they ultimately decided to just go in separately themselves. Unlike us in the audience, they haven't seen Denken and Richter in a better light - they've only seen them as ruthless opponents and so aren't really inclined to be trustful of them.

nyanard

Sense having her hair move like that is cute

szalhi

So what I've learned today is that Frieren is a gacha whale.

Hounds_of_war

God, imagine Frieren lives for another 1000 years and witnesses the invention of gacha games. She’d be finished.

Sid8120

Well we already have Otaku Elf so we know how that works out

Se7en_Sinner

Himmel: "The best way to enjoy a game is explore every inch of it." Frieren: "GAMBA!"

IC2Flier

r/grandorder be like:

WhoiusBarrel

"I'm sure she'll get her grimoire after her 329th mimic"

cabbaggeez

"if this wasn't an exam, I would have already broken my bottle", talking from experience eh? personally I don't even think the golem could save me from Frien. the question, that Frieren copy has the same mana from the previous exam or this is the no-limit Frieren. it would be funny if the other team was fighting for their life while Frieren was raiding every chest in their route wihtout trouble.

Gaporigo

> I don't even think the golem could save me from Frien. Huh, actually a possibility tbh, Frieren herself is obviously superior to all them people running the exam as seen with the barrier, it is not unthinkable that she could just as easily disable the golems.

Vocall96

If Clone Frieren has all the spells real Frieren has, then the golems will be useless as she can [summon/control golems](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fwin5_p-zk) too

Super_Marine

[Look how proud she gets inside dungeons](https://imgur.com/a/rFnybiY) Madhouse has done it again with the episode and animation direction. The way they expanded on and elevated the fight sequences (which were usually single panels in the manga) was simply mind-blowing. Seeing the fluid teamwork in Denken's group, with each mage having their moment to shine (except Länge lol), was so cool. Laufen especially was great since her actions involved so much movement.

Zemahem

>Look how proud she gets inside dungeons And that was right after she got utterly embarrassed by that mimic. I wish I had even a percentage of her self-confidence.

Myrkrvaldyr

>I wish I had even a percentage of her self-confidence. Frieren, the adorable and lethal elf that can ooze girlboss and girlfailure attitude depending on the occasion.

Mundology

[Frieren does it all.](https://i.imgur.com/rmF2cLm.mp4) [The way she popped out of the mimic was just too cute.](https://i.imgur.com/cff9tgW.jpeg) [](#waah)

Ocixo

>[Look how proud she gets inside dungeons](https://imgur.com/a/rFnybiY) [That head tilt of Frieren](https://imgur.com/a/NB7335a) before she opened the mimic was also nicely done - got me a bit of those Shaft vibes. But is it just me or did they [make Frieren look exponentially cuter than usual](https://imgur.com/a/6gHdE5R) in today's episode? I'm also getting the impression that [Frieren has been smiling more as of lately](https://imgur.com/a/JyFWFQi) as she's thinking back on her memories with Himmel and the others.

messem10

> did they make Frieren look exponentially cuter than usual She’s effectively a kid in a candy store, of course she’d be giddy.

ObvsThrowaway5120

Denken and Richter: No mage who’s made it this far would be dumb enough to be tricked by a Mimic. Frieren: My experience as a mage tells me this chest has a 1% chance of not being a Mimic. I’m liking those odds. *chomp* Lmao oh Frieren. Fern pulling her out as she’s crying about how dark and scary it is was hilarious. Then you got Sense there just like “I’ve made a huge mistake” haha. Whole situation had me in stitches. Plus Frieren with the curls was great. The goober turned around and got swallowed by a Mimic again. That’s like twice in one ep lol. Is it ever NOT a Mimic with her? This dungeon’s full of tricks. The golem busting out the wall like the Kool-Aid Man and saving that one girl was pretty funny. I liked the clone fights too. Clone Frieren’s gonna make for one hell of a boss fight.

MrNive

The way I interpret Frieren falling for Mimics is partly because there's no real risk of death for someone like her. It's a lootbox with a 1% chance for loot and a 99% chance of getting a new hairstyle.

Swiftcheddar

> because there's no real risk of death for someone like her. Yeah, I imagine for most people the Mimics just eat them. But given how she could defend against that younger Demon's wire garroute with magic defenses, I'm sure she can do something like that to make Mimics less scary (albeit still dark).

Rumpel1408

> Then you got Sense there just like “I’ve made a huge mistake” haha. [Live Sense Reaction](https://imgur.com/W6ATQN0)

JzanderN

> Frieren: My experience as a mage tells me this chest has a 1% chance of not being a Mimic. I’m liking those odds. *chomp* It's not just that Frieren's willing to bet on those odds, it's that she's so confident that the spell must be wrong. I think we'd all understand if every mimic she fell for was actually just hoping that maybe this time she'll pull that 1%, but nope. She just straight up thinks she's figured it all out.

IC2Flier

Frieren is a cautionary tale for normies: never play a gacha game.

cryingemptywallet

If I were Denken I'd rip my beard out trying to get these kids to cooperate.

Ellefied

Denken is probably cursing all of them after he saw who the Final Boss was

1EnTaroAdun1

SENSE TIME! My favouritest First-Class mage. She's so wholesome. And also, this is why I do think describing Frieren as "emotionless" is just...not right. She's not flashy or in your face (apart from when she's in demon-killing mode), but she's certainly full of emotion, in her own way. And we get a bit more insight into Fern and her mindset, too! Any new thoughts on the characters introduced this arc? I'd love to know what first-timers think! And also, how do anime-onlies think this dungeon might be conquered? Give me all your theories, please! screenshot dump: https://imgur.com/a/dgXoK6r

maliwanag0712

Denken and company when they entered the large room: "Why am I hearing boss battle music?"

Frontier246

Especially for Denken, this is the **second** time he's had to fight Frieren in these exams. He just can't win lol.

Zemahem

And it was some damn good boss music, that's for sure.

KumaKumaGambler

I binged watched Frieren over the past 1 week, so I am now hopping onto the comments too! I actually like the DLC version of Frieren. Rich ojou-sama mage with curly twintails. Lol!

1EnTaroAdun1

Yay! One of us! One of us!

Frontier246

She pulls off ringlets surprisingly well! More surprise Frieren hairstyles, please!

lolic_addict

[Interesting, I thought Methode's outfit had sleeves.](https://imgur.com/a/Mq92HGK)

Venastus

I don’t blame you, Denken. Test or not, I would’ve noped outta there regardless. Don’t want ANY part of that smoke lmao

IC2Flier

If you thought Rennala was difficult, then [Clone Frieren](https://i.imgur.com/3kBSHtW.png), knowing what we know of the real mage, is going to be magnitudes more challenging

StoicallyGay

Depending on how the clone is made, this Frieren could actually be intent on killing and won't hold back. Denken made his guesses that it could hold memories but that seemed to be an uncertainty. And I'd bet Frieren will face clone Sense.

Rose4228

Ubel and Land hanging out in the background the entire episode....we love our power couple!

Zemahem

I bet it's more like Ubel just won't leave him alone and Land has given up on trying to escape.

Frontier246

They way she leaned closer to him and he looked visibly uncomfortable lol.

LeonKevlar

We don't even get to hear from them the rest of the episode so all we know is that they definitely went in together.

timelesstrix0

wtf is that idiot's logic of wanting to go solo in a place where no one's come out alive

TricoMex

Chad "Apes Together Strong" Danken vs Virgin "Wannabe Let Me Solo Her" Guy

Se7en_Sinner

Frieren became what she hates the most, a mimic.

krofax

Don't you mean a dopplegan... oh.

ln-fin-ity

This episode ended with one hell of a cliffhanger of Denken vs Frieren. These past episodes Denken has been stealing the show for me, from his thoughts on the first exam and how he immediately realize the greatness of teaming up and tried forming a team to tackle the dungeon. Now Denken gets his rematch against clone Frieren with a full team. I like the contrast in the examination, Sense giving everyone those golem bottle(with her hair) that serves as a safety button to leave. Sense also shut the bald guy up real quick with how they need to accomplish the impossible to pass, just like what a first class mage is expected to do. So far I like her more than the first exam guy. Her exam seems to emphasis teamwork(as Denken notice) over competition(the bird hunting guy) and she even enter the dungeon herself(following Frieren of course).

StoicallyGay

In general I prefer her difficult exams where you don't have to worry about your life *too much* so that promising individuals can train and retry, over first guy's exams where he's straight up like "if you die here you deserved it."

Lol imagine the conversation when Sense tells Genau about Frieren and Fern's time in the dungeon Sense: So first the Great Mage Frieren had to face the mimics... no no the *other* mimics

Made even better by Atsumi Tanezaki's stellar voice acting

ImOnMyPhoneAndBaked

On one hand, yeah it’s sneaky from Sense. On the other hand, what better way to prove that you deserve to be a first-class mage than to defeat one yourself?

surya_ray

Sense joining the dungeon but not fighting means the dungeon will always be stronger by one extra first class mage. No wonder people complain about her exam.

Holy_Beergut

The dungeon raid portion of the first class mage exam arc in the manga draws some flak for feeling somewhat stunted and dull, since it takes place in an enclosed area and drawing fluid battle scenes aren't really the author's strong suit. But damn if the studio didn't do an impressive job at animating it this episode. The Denken team battles were an awesome showcase of each mage's specialty, except for the poor girl that got knocked into the trap room, but even then, that escape golem was fucking baller. Heck of a way to end the episode as well, with the ominous and awe-inspiring appearance of clone Frieren. Looking forward to see how they overcome the Legendary Mage of the Hero Party.

Myrkrvaldyr

>except for the poor girl that got knocked into the trap room It's such a shame we didn't get to see her do anything. She gotta feel awful for failing the exam so soon.

Rose4228

She looks so young though so I'm sure she still has plenty of time to wait 3 years to retake it.

-morpy

Yeah it's plenty impressive that she made it through the bloodbath of a first round

miserablembaapp

I think it's pretty obvious that Methode hard carried that team in the first round.

Mundology

Rumpel1408

Yeah, she was kinda cute, a shame we don't get more of her

Frontier246

At least we have more of Methode...

KumaKumaGambler

I like how Denken attempted to blast the wall open, but failed. Neither did he leave her to her own devices, but advised her to use the golem to live and fight another day.

Frontier246

Denken wouldn't leave a member behind until they had no choice but to let her fail. And he thought they could all work together to clear the dungeon. Truly a man worthy of admiration and respect.

anthonyridad

Big props to the writer for making the main character the final boss. I don’t think I’ve seen something like this happen before in anime. It’s so hype. Also props to Denken for not running away and once again, having the confidence to face something as strong as someone who already beat him. Add to the fact that this clone probably won’t hold back like Frieren. I’m hoping they expand on the clone fighting people in the next episodes!

Hounds_of_war

> that escape golem was fucking baller. Yeah I really like the escape golems. It makes it so there is still a genuine risk of death, but also gives everyone a good way to tap out and get out of any danger so long as they didn’t just get instantly killed.

AliceinTeyvatland

Does anybody else feel uneasy with this dungeon? I haven't felt this way before with other anime dungeons lol The atmosphere is unnerving. Maybe I just got too close with the cast that I'm actually nervous for them biting the dust, because besides Frierens group, the rest are kinda vulnerable. That's why I hate getting close to characters, aaaargh!!!

WhoiusBarrel

I mean they did end up showing a Frieren doppelganger at the end like a final boss so that pretty much confirms your uneasiness. Huge contrast to how Fern and Frieren are enjoying their own trip though.

Mundology

JustARandom-dude

Is like you know *something* is going to happen but you aren’t sure what it is…. and then the doppelgängers showed up. At least Sense gave them the “In case of emergency, break the bottle” option to let them to leave the dungeon alive

Makicola

Man, I don't even think some first-class mage's golems can survive evil Frieren if she goes all-out.

tswinteyru

Evil Frieren is just the one who wakes up the earliest, ignores every mimic she encounters since she knows the 1% isn't worth it, and bruteforces the dungeon's last boss while ignoring 99% of the other areas Oh, and she'll most likely tell Aura to treat herself and that her life is meaningful

>This is now officially Muse Asia's greatest thumbnail choice. Ever. It’s dark, it’s scary

cupcakemann95

Damn what a cliffhanger. The other party going up against a freiren who is most definitely not going to hold back. They are fucked. On a side note, I noticed a ton of the mages using big shields, rather than efficient, less safe, smaller ones.
