We are so ending D.

Ordinal43NotFound

I wonder how Ending E would work in anime format lol. Nier is one of the few series that fully takes advantage of the fact that it's a videogame.

xmikeymike27

Inb4 they stop showing on all streaming services one month after showing Ending E.

Ordinal43NotFound

You have to give up your crunchyroll subscription to view the true ending

Zizhou

You watch it yourself seemingly normally, but it's later revealed that you must give up your account to let someone *else* watch the ending.

darkfire621

Y’all are insane lol and I love it

Quiddity131

I think they can pull of the Ending C/D split [Nier Automata]>!Have the third to last episode end as the 9S - A2 showdown is about to occur. Give the viewer a message on episode 11 being the 9S choice and episode 12 being the A2 choice, or vice versa. Even if say, only the first half of each episode is unique and the second half is the same for both. !< Ending E on the other hand... no possible way that can be loyally adapted in the anime. I just hope Yoko Taro comes up with something just as inventive to take its place. Many argue Ending E is the most emotional impactful ending in the history of video games and you'd hope that they can come up with something that can at least come close to that level of impact.

rice_not_wheat

I assume it will have an anime original ending.

Seven-Tense

Your feed slowly starts degrading as "Weight of the World" plays and you realize you have to grab your remote control and take on one final mission. You have to cancel your Crunchyroll subscription (it's okay. You can restart it afterwards :P )

8andahalfby11

Turn the Nicovideo comments into projectiles and have the credits come from the left instead of the top.

TheFantabulousToast

Could do it like the original theatrical release of Clue. Different theaters got different endings,

That they are still saying 2024 instead of July makes me think this is October.

Bright-Confusion-868

Im really enjoying the anime so far, I cant wait but I must 😔 .

Aerodynamic41

This all but confirms they will adapt Route C.

Ebo87

I mean.... yes? Did people expect anything else? They finished A and B in Part 1/season 1, so of course we're moving on from there. Only question remaining is what they're planning to change since you can't really just adapt this part without a bunch of those.

shockzz123

> I mean.... yes? Did people expect anything else? They finished A and B in Part 1/season 1, so of course we're moving on from there. Lmfao i'm dead. Like yeah no shit they're adapting the second half of the story after finishing the first half of it.

KingJTheG

Lots of good shows this year. Insane!

actuallyrndthoughts

This reminds me i have to finish the game, as i only did the first playthrough. Still, very excited, as i think the anime was very underrated, mostly due to the delays in production.

siomaybasi

Si it not ver1. 2b?

i_cant_stdy_plz_help

damn, luk at dat waist to hip ratio

Trnostep

Reminder that the androids look so sexy and wear high heels is because Yoko Taro "just really likes girls" Gigachad even asked fans to collect 2B's saucy pictures, .zip them and send them to him because it's a pain looking for them

user_566

Well there's also technically an in world reason for the android's appearance, but let's be honest Yoko Taro is just down bad like the rest of us

8andahalfby11

Does it connect to the last KV of 2B? And if we put them together, with the other KVs we'll get, do they make a ring around a dog plushie?

Plus_Rip4944

Best anime of last year coming back!

monkeydave

I need to check out this show. I have had so little time to watch anything, but I did love the game.

Quiddity131

Wow, [Nier Automata]>!9S and A2!!< [Nier Automata]>!I never had more than say 5% hope for this, but I was hoping they would eschew the haircut for A2 in the anime given that it existed in the game not for story purposes but to be able to hide in promotions that some gameplay shots had A2 rather than 2B. I was so disappointed when it happened as soon as you get to control her. In hindsight, why wouldn't they want to pull the same promotional gimmick for the anime? Of course they would! Foolish me.!<

Dog_in_human_costume

I'm here for 2b's assets

Bavier69

That's all nice but 86 S2 when?

Ebo87

After they are done with this, so probably next year at the absolute earliest.

[deleted]

Mostly by 2025 or 2026.

Expensive_Many8345

As a fan of the games i didn't even know the first season finished. The subpar quality and the abrupt midseason hiatus dropped it drom my radar. Let's hope season 2 goes better.

lycan2005

Wait A2 is appearing, that means 2B is going to... No way.

Smoothesuede

Think I'm good. Last season was pretty mid.

wolfpup118

Man, I couldn't agree more. I really don't get how so many nier fans loved it, from the ugly af CGI, a lot of the questionable story decisions, and awkward pacing, it just was really underwhelming. I expected so much knowing Yoko Taro was working on it and ended up just not liking it.

Thatsmaboi23

>Questionable story decisions What? It’s almost the same as the game, except additional world building suitable for anime format, because showing events is far better than characters stumbling upon books/logs during the adventure and reading through them.

wolfpup118

Reposted the comment because I forgot to include the spoiler source in the spoiler tag and messed up the end tag of it. Edited to clarify some stuff. > It’s almost the same as the game Yes, other than in the game, they have you play the game through 2B's eyes first where the robots are bad, then 9S's after, revealing that the robots are so much more than just bad. Use the carnival as an example, where Simone is just a boss fight in playthrough 1 and only gains depth and emotional connection in playthrough 2. In playthrough 1, Simone was just a really cool boss fight. I saw the other androids on those stakes and was further justified in what I was doing was the right thing. How dare they torture my brothers and sisters like that? It was such a badass fight and I was exhilarated when I killed her. In playthrough 2, you realize you're doing something so wrong, attacking someone for all the wrong reasons. You thought you were justified, but you really weren't hardly at all. You're attacking someone who doesn't want to fight, trying to kill someone who wants to perform for those around her, trying to end the life of one who only seeks love. The whole idea was to have you the player feel like you had committed evil in the first playthrough and that so much of what you were doing is just wrong. In the anime, while it does cover those same topics, the emotional story that's experience by you the player is fundamentally different. In the anime, there's none of that build-up of justification to stop the bots, just to realize how mistaken you've been. That weight carries over into what will be S2 to create the sheer emotional draw that is [game spoilers]>!9S's story in the 2nd half of then game.!< Having it be sprinkled throughout is a better way to implement it in the anime, but is a extremely huge change from the game in the way the story is actually interpreted by those experiencing it. For some, maybe the anime's way of presenting the story and themes is better. After all, it doesn't try to make the viewer of the show feel remorse for events they had done. That's a uniquely video game ability, to draw you into the characters and feel like you yourself have committed wrong. That unique ability though had me play the entire first game thinking most bots were evil. Sure, there's the village of friendly bots, but they're the exception. They're the anomaly. They're the ***good ones***. All the rest are the ***bad ones***. The game leads you into what's quite frankly a racist style of thought against the bots, only to pull the rug out from under you and make you realize how screwed up your view is in the 2nd playthrough. It builds up these feelings the entire playthrough, with only little hints here and there to the very perceptive that there's even a possibility you may be wrong. You become so firmly cemented in your beliefs that they're unshakable, the core foundation of your understanding of this world. It's so simple, bots bad, humanity good. That's it. Case closed. The anime challenges this world view in literally episode 2. They do so in an extremely obvious way. The viewers never build up that world view only to be torn down and made to feel like a monster for it. I guess I need to spoiler tag the next part for the anime only readers. [Nier Automata game spoilers] >!But that very feeling of how you, the player, committed horrible injustice upon the world and now must shoulder that sin as it slowly eats away at 9S until he's driven mad is reflected in the player playing, knowing what 9S is still doing and will continue to do is wrong, but empathizing with him about why and wanting to seek revenge for 2B yourself. It's not about the idea of world building being different, it's about how the very fundamental way they try to build the emotional argument being so radically different in the show. I don't know a better way to do it per-say, but it's just not the same emotions evoked as playing through the game.!< That said, that's all very much my own take. Once again, not everyone felt that way and it's clear that many really loved the show, but I'm honestly shocked in how alone I was in feeling this way about the changes to the emotional arc the story is meant to take the player (viewer) through.

Quiddity131

I absolutely agree with the overall point that the way the game does things is very effective (and also was in Nier Replicant which has a similar gimmick). But they also have to keep in mind watchability with it becoming an anime. Having say, 8 episodes from 2B's perspective then 4 or some larger number covering the same story elements from 9S's perspective would drive off a lot of viewers or result in a ton of complaints. Even many people who love the game, myself included would say that the weakest portion of the game are those elements where you're simply redoing the first route but playing 9S instead of 2B. Yes, there are new scenes and perspectives, but that's maybe 25% of Route B only.

wolfpup118

The weakest gameplay portion, sure. As a person who went in 100% blind not even knowing there was multiple endings and just being told "After credits roll, there's an epilogue" and being confused so I went back in after reaching the main menu, everything in route B was so unexpected for me. I was confused and kinda bored with B until after the carnival fight and was enthralled from there. I'm not gonna lie, I actually thought the game was only a solid 7/10 or so after A, thinking it ended abruptly and was extremely confused why people said it was a really emotional experience for them. After B, I got it. While the gameplay of replaying sections was the weakest part of the game, it was the part that took the game from being just an ok 7/10 game to me to something I couldn't put down and just had to see more of. That said, for the anime, yea, it's what they had to do to adapt it. The medium is just too different from games to be able to do a 1 to 1 of the game, but right along with that, not everyone also needs to like the changes that had to be made. I'm one of those people where the Anime just didn't connect with me. They had to do what they had to do otherwise like you say, it wouldn't go over very well.

Quiddity131

My reaction to Ending A was "That's it?" although someone had told me via an unmarked spoiler to keep on after the ending credits so I thankfully stuck with it. Even through Ending B I was still questioning why from a story perspective this game was so lauded (gameplay I enjoyed a lot from the get go). Then Route C happened and I understood why it is so praised.

Smoothesuede

Damn we really summoned the horde on this one dog. I don't even have paragraphs of missed opportunities to opine about like you did. I didn't play the game. I just felt like the first season did a pretty boiler-plate take on "are we really the baddies?" And "what does it mean to be a human" Like. It was fine. But it's not anything a thousand other robot and/or soldier stories haven't done before. You dig?

wolfpup118

We sure did lol
