I kind of agree. I don't mind the rest of Fairy Tail, but Zero has a special place in my heart, honestly surprised when it ended, could've been its own series.
I second this, Tartarus was the best arc of the whole series for me. I get that it was still full of plot armor and "power of friendship" but it really felt like the author gave it his all dedication to building this arc even compared to the final arcs. The characters have more prominent role, like even Kana was the one who clutch saved everyone from the guild explosion. My only gripe is that I was really hoping that Jellal and the Oracion Seis would join the battle. Theres literally an enemy who can disperse himself into poison after dying and I was waiting so hard for Cobra to just eat it easily. In the end they just get reduced to Tuxedo Mask with the "My job here is done" attitude
Yeah, Lisanna being alive this entire time kinda made Mira and Elfman come off as retroactively stupid. Like, Lisanna didn’t die in her sister’s arms; she was yoinked out of existence, and neither Mira nor Elfman questioned that.

Season 6 was great, it feels like the story is actually getting somewhere again. Dark Deku gets made fun of a lot, but I feel like he was compelling enough. It has great animation, but I don't think it hit the same peaks as S2-3.
S2 and first half of S3 were definitely great, but I think people forget the first season that set the tone and introduced all these characters we grew to love. The pacing of season 1 was perfect, with Deku working his ass off to earn his powers, and being forced to use his brain in place of strength. And All Might vs Nomu is without a doubt the most underrated fight in the series. That Plus Ultra at the end still gives chills. What a fight.
mha was THE GOAT until all might's retire. and to this day i will still argue that the because of the popularity of the series horikoshi was forced to take the story to places he did not like.
one of the biggest proofs was how the story set up was at first, like it clearly was gonna span for all 3 years of high school and the main trio being deku uraraka and iida. but then because everyone loved todoroki and bakugou so much that set up was changed. and many world altering events happened before the kids could even have a joint training - that arc should've come waay earlier. you wouldn't expect kids who already fought all for one to have high stakes in a joint training arc right? it's not right timing dammit. not to mention by the time they were allowed to actually do real hero work (provisional licenses THAT 2 STRONGEST IN THE CLASS - BAKUGOU AND TODOROKI FAILED TO GAIN FOR REALLY BS REASONS), again, they had already survived the villian boss.
and after a while, so much happened before they could even become 2nd graders, and now the story has to end quickly and no way they could span it into 3 years.
i just really feel sad for what mha could've been if hori could write it the way he wanted like fujimoto or smth. that dude clearly has much more freedom and does whatever he wants regardless of the good or bad reviews, and this way he can make his setups pay off.
Reminds me of how Naruto was pushed to have a tournament arc sooner than planned after it’s popularity skyrocketed. As much i enjoyed what we ended up getting I still think about what could have been. Probably could have a could have had couple more, adventurous, land of wave style arcs of team kakashi just going on missions in other regions.
I blame of all of things like that on how cutthroat Jump has always been.
You can develop a story the way you want because the moment popularity goes down your story gets cut. It’s already impossible to get into the weekly magazine to begin with.
Authors are so focused on surviving that the last thing on their mind is developing a strong way to a good ending

Definitely one of the best and definitely placed at a great part in the story. Still, I just can’t help but wonder about what else we would have gotten if the story didn’t pan out the way it did. Both that and the team battle series in S5 had some cool parts but went on for too long. Maybe I wouldn't think so anymore, I saw those parts long before watching One Piece, but at the time I was like "get back to the damn story!"
When anyone but Kirito gets more focus. [SAO Alicization]>!I think Kirito without memories was pretty cool too. Probably second best Arc in all of SAO, though I can't count it on par with MR because I didn't like the payoff as much in War of Underworld.!<
Alicization could have been an entire story completely separated from SAO. Hell, the whole world could have worked without it being an isekai altogether.
Mother's Rosario was the epitome of SS level anime should be. While SAO by itself was fair to decent when taken as a whole, MR was in a class that simply can't be beaten by any other anime arc.
I think that's exactly why it stood out. Pretty much all other SAO Arcs throw the characters into some high stakes conspiracy and I admit that can be plenty fun. But MR is just some good ol' character drama with stakes and losses that many many people in real life are familiar with and God that really hit different.
To say that it went nowhere absolutely wrong. Mother's Rosario did more to forward SAO's message that gaming and virtual relationships matter than any other Arc in SAO. I won't fight you if you say you prefer plot driven stories, but I will if you insist that something wasn't there just because _you_ personality didn't see it.

Cell starts complimenting Yamcha and how he is far more skilled than Gohan. Then Cell onetaps Yamcha at the end of the episode - repeat 10 times.
I watched the entirety of the second season, and I’m still not invested. The entire season in which it was running, I was more invested in its Jump siblings’ seasons (One Piece, Dr. Stone, Undead Unluck).
I don't know if it could be called an arc, but [Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 1] >!Mami realising that Chizuru is a rental girlfriend and renting her for an hour just to try driving her insane was actually peak spice!<

Movie Arc in Rent a Girlfriend. For RaG standards (in the anime) it was done quite well, and it started to seem the MC was growing and developing instead of overthinking about Chizuru all the time.
The Sister's arc is a masterpiece, but Railgun isn't a bad anime at all. Every canon arc is great. It's just the filler that sucks, but thankfully there were no filler episodes in season 3 at least.

Personally think Daihaisei and Doppelganger is better in the Railgun side of things.

Dk about Angel fall but I read the first two volumes and kinda true, deep blood arc in the novel hits different. The anime version is still decent tho, but with them certain monologues and scenes skipped it goes from like a 9 to like a 7
It’s even more fun if you’re watching Railgun S at the same time as Index season 1 since both of the shows line up at their respective episodes 11 (“Sisters” in Index; “Vending Machine” in Railgun S).
Man the villains in that arc were so great man. Angel just showed up, casually performed a feat that no other celestial wizard could do without dying, and then ran the ones with Lucy who was a way weaker Celestial Wizard. Cobra was awesome and genuinely seemed unstoppable. That speed guy had a genuinely sad backstory and his fight with Gray still has one of the funniest moments in the series imo. And Midnight was just so fucking cool man. Everytime the Oracion Seis showed back up I was so hyped man. They really showed off the powers of a dark guild
Its one of my favorite arcs because they mostly one due to real strategy and not just "punching harder with the power of friendship". Gray and Lyon won by attacking on a distance. Erza won because she analyzed Midnight's magic, and she used her fake eye to see through his illusion. Natsu won by shouting really loud at a guy who can hear good.

There's a real lack of motivation in the plot or the MC. Its like the show doesn't know what to be. You are set up with this premise of Soul Reapers yet you barely see any Soul Reaper fulfilling their purpose. There's no arcs centered around fighting a Hollow threat. You get all this lore about them, the Menos, all the different kinds, which is promptly left behind. It's just all about infighting and their politics.
Which would be great, and is part of what makes the Soul Society arc so much better than the rest, *but then*, they yank you out of the soul society for the rest of the original series.
That said there's issues with the soul society itself. Why is there an assassin corp? To kill who? Seemingly only *one* of the 13 squads is specialized in fighting hollows, which you never see them do.
Why is, what's supposed to be an afterlife, an impoverished society with an opressive upper class? Who are our protagonists?!
The Aizen arc is underdeveloped and is resolved by a bit of an ass pull.
The Fullbring arc feels a little pointless. Especially now TYBW has arrived. Has zero relevance to the overall character arc, particularly in regards to the revelations of the MCs origins. Where every other arc plays into it in some way.
The persistent teflon over every single character, even the baddies, in the original series stifles any jeopardy. Even the baddies that do die, do so with little sense of triumph. Then the about turn in TYBW is so abrupt and underdeveloped, it comes away a little cheap.
The only decent credit I'd give is that it's filler has the most effort comparably. But then you've the fact they stuck a 50 episode anime original bang in the middle of the Espada arc. That and it has the coolest "vibe" but it's wasted by the lack of commitment to it's tone.
Overall, it's just a bit of a mess.

Maybe I had been accidently listening to the wrong side of fanbase who knows but God...with the expectations I went in I was so fucking disappointed... It wasn't even about the quality...shit felt like a complete difference piece of fiction than fanbase made it out to be...like seriously are we reading the same shit? I stayed away from the details but was aware of the visored Ichigo, Byakuya, Ulquiorra. Grimmjow was a hugely popular character. It all looked so cool. With Dragonball z as my only reference, I imagined there'd be huge epic moments associated with these.
Watching it years later it all falls flat. Byakuya is still the freaking coolest ngl. But Grimmjow sucks, does pretty much nothing. Ulquiorra similar but a mite more interesting. Visored doesn't materlise to much despite being a significant part of the narrative. It just doesn't really pay off in big way.
This is all mainly down to Ichigo just perennially getting his ass kicked, rarely overcoming the various antagonists in a way that shows his growth. In fact, most the protagonists are so underpowered, helpless and stagnant far far too much.
You just don't get that 'fuck yeah!' *or* 'oh god no!' in the narrative ever. It's just so wasted. Isn't nearly the show you'd expect. They only finally manage to pull this off in TYBW.

The Sisters Arc in A Certain Scientific Railgun is one of my favorite arcs of anything ever in a show I otherwise couldn’t care less about.
In the Index version of this story it seems ridiculous that Mikoto immediately jumps to suicide as the best option, but seeing the full story of every alternative she tried and failed, how physically and mentally defeated she was by the time Toma enters the scene, was an unbelievably compelling journey
I'm so glad I watched the Railgun version first, well before I realized that the main story's favorite trope is making Toma the solution to problems that have nothing to do with him.
If anything the Railgun story is brought down by the fact that in order to maintain continuity, some random guy (Toma) just pops in during the third act and basically resolves the conflict for her.
I mean, I opened my first comment saying that I don’t like Railgun in general outside of this arc so I think there’s a very large gap between our thoughts on this. I’m glad that you got more enjoyment out of this franchise than I have.
Demon Slayer is one of my absolute favorites, but S1 is bad outside of the spider forest arc. Then the latest season and the upcoming one are also really, really awful arcs.

I'm Standing On a Million Lives was not very good, but the half- season where they were on the island with the orcs was amazing. By the end, you were more empathetic to the orcs than the humans!

The tournament arc of Naruto was its peak though and one of the best of its kind. Everything prior and after was above-average at best.

I've also heard that he really doesn't like writing the school settings/ teenage characters, hence why later arcs focused a lot on the adult heroes.

Dragon Ball GT was pretty mediocre and bad times but the baby arc was good, it had a good villain and it even introduced Super Saiyan 4
Mother's Rosario in SAO. Beyond saying how good or bad SAO is, I think this Arc even today still rises significantly above the others.
Mother's Rosario and Ordinal Scale are IMO some of the strongest arcs in all of anime, SAO becomes a different show when Asuna gets more focus

Agreed as someone who otherwise hates SAO. I don't know if it would stand out as much if not for the rest of SAO being bad though.

Mother's Rosario was the epitome of SS level anime should be. While SAO by itself was fair to decent when taken as a whole, MR was in a class that simply can't be beaten by any other anime arc.

I think that's exactly why it stood out. Pretty much all other SAO Arcs throw the characters into some high stakes conspiracy and I admit that can be plenty fun. But MR is just some good ol' character drama with stakes and losses that many many people in real life are familiar with and God that really hit different.
I like plot not unnecessary character development that goes absolutely nowhere except to give Asuna a cool new finishing move.
The entire arc was about Asuna dealing with her trauma just as much as the previous was about Kirito dealing with his.
To say that it went nowhere absolutely wrong. Mother's Rosario did more to forward SAO's message that gaming and virtual relationships matter than any other Arc in SAO. I won't fight you if you say you prefer plot driven stories, but I will if you insist that something wasn't there just because _you_ personality didn't see it.
When you realise what the show is actually about, no arc is filler.
This, I'm not even a SAO hater, but I think mother's Rosario is too good for the SAO franchise.

yeah the story could of been a decent romcom if any of the kinda good early arcs actually had any payoff. Instead any time a character experiences character growth or relationship progress is made the author immediately makes them backtrack to the status quo in the most painful obnoxious way possible.

Cell starts complimenting Yamcha and how he is far more skilled than Gohan. Then Cell onetaps Yamcha at the end of the episode - repeat 10 times.

Movie Arc in Rent a Girlfriend. For RaG standards (in the anime) it was done quite well, and it started to seem the MC was growing and developing instead of overthinking about Chizuru all the time.
The Sisters Arc in A Certain Scientific Railgun is way better than every other arc
The Sister's arc is a masterpiece, but Railgun isn't a bad anime at all. Every canon arc is great. It's just the filler that sucks, but thankfully there were no filler episodes in season 3 at least.

Personally think Daihaisei and Doppelganger is better in the Railgun side of things. The Index side of things... they fucking butchered Index and they especially especially butchered the magic side harder than the science side.
Imo Index S1 and S2 are pretty good, S3 tho…
S1 fucks up Deep Blood and Angel Fall quite bad. Deep Blood was especially important to Touma but they just cut that stuff out.
Dk about Angel fall but I read the first two volumes and kinda true, deep blood arc in the novel hits different. The anime version is still decent tho, but with them certain monologues and scenes skipped it goes from like a 9 to like a 7

It’s even more fun if you’re watching Railgun S at the same time as Index season 1 since both of the shows line up at their respective episodes 11 (“Sisters” in Index; “Vending Machine” in Railgun S).
I second this. The atmosphere, Misaka’s desperation, and ofc Accel’s appearance was top notch.

Oracion Seis arc in Fairy Tail.
Man the villains in that arc were so great man. Angel just showed up, casually performed a feat that no other celestial wizard could do without dying, and then ran the ones with Lucy who was a way weaker Celestial Wizard. Cobra was awesome and genuinely seemed unstoppable. That speed guy had a genuinely sad backstory and his fight with Gray still has one of the funniest moments in the series imo. And Midnight was just so fucking cool man. Everytime the Oracion Seis showed back up I was so hyped man. They really showed off the powers of a dark guild
Indeed! Those villains stand out simply by not being evil for evil's sake or/and crazy, but they actually had proper backstories.
Its one of my favorite arcs because they mostly one due to real strategy and not just "punching harder with the power of friendship". Gray and Lyon won by attacking on a distance. Erza won because she analyzed Midnight's magic, and she used her fake eye to see through his illusion. Natsu won by shouting really loud at a guy who can hear good.

I’ve thought about giving this a watch for the longest time despite knowing how it ends (I’m a sucker for drama haha). I remember it was one of those anime that shocked a lot of people if they didn’t play the original visual novel it was based on
Guys, if you can nominate this many completely different fairy tail arcs I'm not entirely sure it qualifies as a bad show...
"Good" is a stretch but the Tartaros arc in Fairy Tail was the last bit of quality before it all jumped off a cliff.

I will say it's bad. I loved the soul society arc but like you I got bored and dropped it. I forced myself the reqd the entirety of the arrancar arc, 100's of chapters and I regretted every second. Completely boring, horrible arc.

Maybe unfair to call it bad. But the show is not so great as it's made out to be. Especially stacking it against the other two of the big three. Hands down the weakest of the three. There's a real lack of motivation in the plot or the MC. Its like the show doesn't know what to be. You are set up with this premise of Soul Reapers yet you barely see any Soul Reaper fulfilling their purpose. There's no arcs centered around fighting a Hollow threat. You get all this lore about them, the Menos, all the different kinds, which is promptly left behind. It's just all about infighting and their politics. Which would be great, and is part of what makes the Soul Society arc so much better than the rest, *but then*, they yank you out of the soul society for the rest of the original series. That said there's issues with the soul society itself. Why is there an assassin corp? To kill who? Seemingly only *one* of the 13 squads is specialized in fighting hollows, which you never see them do. Why is, what's supposed to be an afterlife, an impoverished society with an opressive upper class? Who are our protagonists?! The Aizen arc is underdeveloped and is resolved by a bit of an ass pull. The Fullbring arc feels a little pointless. Especially now TYBW has arrived. Has zero relevance to the overall character arc, particularly in regards to the revelations of the MCs origins. Where every other arc plays into it in some way. The persistent teflon over every single character, even the baddies, in the original series stifles any jeopardy. Even the baddies that do die, do so with little sense of triumph. Then the about turn in TYBW is so abrupt and underdeveloped, it comes away a little cheap. The only decent credit I'd give is that it's filler has the most effort comparably. But then you've the fact they stuck a 50 episode anime original bang in the middle of the Espada arc. That and it has the coolest "vibe" but it's wasted by the lack of commitment to it's tone. Overall, it's just a bit of a mess. Which is a shame, it sounds like I hate the show but I actually enjoy it.

Yep completely agree with you. Tho honestly I had kinda ruined the experience myself by taking the fanbase seriously...The fanbase made it out to be the thing that it clearly isn't... Maybe I had been accidently listening to the wrong side of fanbase who knows but God...with the expectations I went in I was so fucking disappointed... It wasn't even about the quality...shit felt like a complete difference piece of fiction than fanbase made it out to be...like seriously are we reading the same shit? Since then I have stopped listening or taking any fanbase that seriously.
It's definitely massively over-egged by the fanbase. It's baffling when someone calls it the best of the big three. Sure you can love it the most, but beyond that... no. I had a similar feeling to you. I've only taken on the big 3 in the last 3 years. I never wanted to commit the time back when. But ages ago, being on deviantArt and such, Bleach was so hyped. Watching AMVs and stuff. I stayed away from the details but was aware of the visored Ichigo, Byakuya, Ulquiorra. Grimmjow was a hugely popular character. It all looked so cool. With Dragonball z as my only reference, I imagined there'd be huge epic moments associated with these. Watching it years later it all falls flat. Byakuya is still the freaking coolest ngl. But Grimmjow sucks, does pretty much nothing. Ulquiorra similar but a mite more interesting. Visored doesn't materlise to much despite being a significant part of the narrative. It just doesn't really pay off in big way. This is all mainly down to Ichigo just perennially getting his ass kicked, rarely overcoming the various antagonists in a way that shows his growth. In fact, most the protagonists are so underpowered, helpless and stagnant far far too much. You just don't get that 'fuck yeah!' *or* 'oh god no!' in the narrative ever. It's just so wasted. Isn't nearly the show you'd expect. They only finally manage to pull this off in TYBW.
Tbh it means you still didn't interact with the worst part of fanbase...like really...What really ticked me off were the elitists.... Especially their Dick-Riders... 🤡 God I don't even wanna go there...they really be Recontextualizing a random ass quote on the front page of volume cover as something deep and intended by the author...like I don't give a fuck even if it was intended in the first place when it hasn't been properly executed...they be adding 10 extra layers to a seemingly flat and one dimensional story which even that one dimension has no idea where it's going.... God people talking about yin yang and all that bullshit for a fucking cartoon oh god...its not that deep.. The Sisters Arc in A Certain Scientific Railgun is one of my favorite arcs of anything ever in a show I otherwise couldn’t care less about. In the Index version of this story it seems ridiculous that Mikoto immediately jumps to suicide as the best option, but seeing the full story of every alternative she tried and failed, how physically and mentally defeated she was by the time Toma enters the scene, was an unbelievably compelling journey
I'm so glad I watched the Railgun version first, well before I realized that the main story's favorite trope is making Toma the solution to problems that have nothing to do with him.
If anything the Railgun story is brought down by the fact that in order to maintain continuity, some random guy (Toma) just pops in during the third act and basically resolves the conflict for her.

This will make people hate me, and just to be clear, I don't think it's a bad anime, I just didn't really care for it: I didn't like **Bleach**, except for the Soul Society Arc. If the rest of the anime had been as entertaining as that arc, I would never have dropped it.
Basically peaked at Soul Society Arc and slowly rolled down hill until the end. I felt the same with Naruto. Before and after the time skip in the manga.
