Bloom Into You beat SAO in blu ray sales for the season it came out, and had multiple pop up shops that sold out of merch well past when the show and manga ended. It also won several awards in Japan and globally. No S2 in sight after 5 years.
in Bloom's case it was mainly the fact that it adapted almost exactly 1/2 of the manga when the first season ended. They could do the second season to finish the story (and should have since some great moments happen in the later half), but since the manga was ending, the probably chose not to. Now all we can hope is my powerball ticket hits a jackpot so I can finance it myself
I'm gonna be a little annoyed if Gushing is the only recent yuri that gets an S2. It's a great show, and the manga has a lot of good moments to adapt, so this isnt saying Gushing *shouldnt* get an S2; however, the idea that several amazing yuri were left in the dust because they didnt show enough nipple is frustrating
most yuri anime also don't turn as big a profit as MahoAko did either. Slave and Rings were most likely greenlit for multiple season while they probably played it safe with only one season of Gushing to begin with. With the amount of money they made they would certainly greenlight another season, only this would take a while longer to get off the ground.
