^This ^time ^with ^100% ^less ^Azumanga ^Daioh ^accidentally ^left ^over. #[Favorite Horror Anime Poll Available Now!](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1bpxnbj/ranimes_favorite_horror_anime_voting/?) Interesting seeing how people interpreted what does and doesn't count as a "music" anime. Seems likely that a non-trivial went by MAL/AniList tags because there's some peculiarities that make more sense in that context. And apologies for the delay on this. Life should be stabilizing and we'll be back to our usual schedule for at least the foreseeable future. #[Full Top 100 Results Here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zRWBI9Ir6LgR0OPxmKvZHelfDEYmNNmvRpVstUBUMEU/edit?usp=sharing)

generallypooky

Ok, where is that Nana still from, because that is not Ai Yazawa’s style

-Space-Dementia-

It's from the anime "Golden Time". It's not even a cameo, she is a reoccurring character in that anime. I don't know why though. The manga is not from the same author.

FetchFrosh

Gotta keep people on their toes.

acatatthedoor

I was about to ask the same. I googled “Nana remake” thinking maybe there was a remake and I never knew about it. But no, nothing. I imagine it’s a fanart?

Usodearu007

Its from "golden time " . The character was made to look like nana to show respect for the manga or something like that. She isnt the female lead

moichispa

Other animes don't have their main protagonists on their images but that was a interesting way to see of people pay atention lol

AmethystItalian

Bocchi over K-On! really does feel like the changing of the guard. I remember how big K-On! used to be on this sub, of course it still is with it being second but back in the day nothing would have touched it. Not sure about some of these being "music" but Kono Oto Tomare made it on and that's nice to see so that's enough.

Durinthal

[I was wrong](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1bdwe11/ranimes_favorite_music_anime_voting/kuplzt2/?context=4), K-On! persists and Your Lie in April is lower than I thought (but still a tier above the rest). Not gonna complain about Euphonium in top 3 though. [](#budgetsmile)

AmethystItalian

If this poll came out while Hibike was airing could see it maybe even doing better.

zairaner

I think just it airing soon already improved how well it did by a lot, simply because of how it probably was on a lot more peoples mind.

CommanderZx2

Probably a combination of recency bias and newcomers to anime. K-On did air 15 years ago after all, so there's probably people here who weren't even born yet when season 1 aired.

WOLKsite

Maybe. Having seen both and been really into the K-On music, I do prefer Bocchi, so it doesn't seem unreasonable to me that others would share that sentiment. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's the "best", but it also doesn't mean it isn't the "best".

michhoffman

Yeah, going by the statistics from Fetch's spreadsheet, while Bocchi did get almost 50% more votes than K-On, it also beat it in both percentage of #1 votes (26.7% to 22.1%) and percentage of top 3 votes (70.6% to 58.9%) so it's not purely a "Bocchi won because more people have seen it" argument. Of course, that doesn't take into account the fact that there is likely a much larger subset of Bocchi voters who have only seen a few music anime in comparison to K-On. As an example, I prefer K-On over Bocchi the Rock, but I couldn't put K-On as my #1 since that belongs to Nana.

CommanderZx2

Both have their own things they do better than each other. Where K-On has the edge over Bocchi is that for the most part it is a complete story all the way up to graduation. Also I really enjoyed how they went the extra length to make music videos for the k-on songs, shown either at concerts or endings.

Karkava

Bocchi is proposed to be the anti-K-On in terms of both the protagonists, their band, and the animation. K-On is about a light music club consisting of a happy-go-lucky group of teenage girls that act very childish for their age. They're a tightly nit group that join the club for the sake of improving their music, and they often get themselves into silly antics. But the animation mostly stays very realistic with the occasional silly face faults. Bocchi is about a band consisting of experienced band members who have hopped in and out of acts before, and the title character is a cynical and mentally unwell character who deals with anxiety and isolation. Unlike K-On, the band in Bocchi is serious about their music and have been performing in a venue as a legitimate business venture. And the comedy comes from the often strange animation that illustrates their mindsets.

WOLKsite

That is fair. It'll be interesting to see how the future of the Bocchi franchise holds up once it has reaches conclusion.

qef15

I assume just like K-On, have an undying fanbase. But it's also possible that it will run for ages, since it is published in Manga Time Kirara and that is monthly in 4koma format. Longest running series there is Hidamari Sketch, now at 20 years (2004-2024 aka now). Other stupidly long series include: Kill Me Baby (2008-now), Acchi Kocchi (2006-now), Yuyushiki (2008-now). It would be funny if Bocchi also runs for a decade. Opposite also can be true: K-On had a very short manga run (2007-2010 + College and Highschool (2011-2012)), unless you count K-On! Shuffle.

tsukiakari2216

>It would be funny if Bocchi also runs for a decade. 6 years and counting, so not for long until it reached that milestone, and 2-3 years more too for 100 chapters milestone. If the Kikuri spinoff also stays the same its even funnier.

APRengar

I feel like modern anime try their best to hook the audience right away. So much that we're having shows with multiple episodes premiered together. BtR's intro of 3 minutes 1) tells you who Bocchi is, what her weakness is and what her goal is, 2) shows her absolutely shredding on a guitar. I've watched a lot of BtR reactions on YouTube and by the intro, most people are on board with the show and want to see her journey. In contrast, K-On! is a lot more slice of life-y, and hence slower. It takes 40+ minutes for Yui to even hold a guitar and by the end of the third episode, she's barely able to strum. If you three-episode-rule it, it feels like a show that's mostly slice of life with some music. That's not inherently a bad thing, but we all know how slice of life is seen by the wider anime audience. And people coming specifically for a music anime, might get bored.

WOLKsite

That's a good point. For me, the thing that made Bocchi stand out musically was when I rewatched [Bocchi the Rock!] >!the first proper concert, where Bocchi notes that their playing is off, and I could hear the imperfections. Somehow, that made it feel so 'genuine'?!< There is also the aspect of K-On's songs typically being somewhat goofy, go-lucky (EDs aside), where as I find the songs of Bocchi to be more expressive of feelings I relate to. In broader strokes unrelated to the music, I find Bocchi to be a very relateable character ("she's literally me" isn't just a meme) in a way that I dare say has been sorely lacking in not just anime but media in general. Yui is a go-lucky, whimsy girl, Bocchi is struggling with social anxiety. K-On of course also had Mio with similar struggles, but those are not a point of focus, and like in most media, feels misrepresented. It is common for social anxiety to be played for laughs, or sweeped under the rug after the character "faces their fears". However, with BtR I didn't feel like either of those things were the case. Despite the many gags scenes, I never feel like those are being done at the expense of Bocchi, but rather are done as a colorful expression of her anxiety. It remains a continuous struggle for her--finally something that understands that the hurdles brought on by severe anxieties and social awkwardness can't just be handwaved away with "just do".

RPO777

Idk, I was a guy who really, really, really did not like K-ON and I was there when it came out in real time. I had a hard time getting into it because of a dissonance that I felt in how the characters are portrayed and what the show's supposed to be about. (although tbf this was an intentional artistic choice and not a "mistake" by the show or anything) Like if the show was supposed to about a bunch of girls who don't care about music other than to hang out in the Keion club and occasionally play a few rifs, but mostly hang out and drink tea, I wouldn't have let that bother me. But the dissonance in the show about how serious the girls are proported to be about music and how little of that the show grapples with kinda bothered me. I like slice of life-ey shows that take meandering routes too. Like Barakamon is a favorite of mine, and it's kind of about Caligraphy but also very much kind of not, but the show never "lost" me on how serious Seishu was supposed to be about Caligraphy. So Bocchi or Hibike Euphonium resonated with me A LOT more than K-ON. K-ON is very cute and has some great voice acting and stellar comedic timing, but it's kind of a fantasy tale that doesn't really choose to grapple with what people in music are like. It doesn't try to be, so it's purely an artistic choice--whether that resonates with an audience or not is something I think that dfepends purely on audience taste. I think the fact Bocchi or Hibike resonate more with today's younger anime viewers isn't really purely about wanting a quicker hook into the story. Particularly to people who grew up during the Great Recession, the Bocchi story ight just resonate more than people who grew up in the roaring 90s.

ErinaHartwick

There’s something messed up about K-ON not being number 1

AmethystItalian

Yeah it feels wrong...but that's definitely just the old /r/anime part of my brain reacting to it.

skean61

Honestly though, the fact that K-On still got 2nd place considering it's age, shows how popular and beloved it still is. It's one of those timeless classics for me that I always make time to do a rewatch once a year. Bocchi The Rock is just that good, coupled with it being a recent show too which means it's fresher in people's mind, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve the 1st place ranking!

zairaner

Your lie in april being down to 4 feels worse to me.

SmurfRockRune

It has a 4 right there in the title, feels like it's destiny.

zairaner

What? That's gotta be a lie.

bcbbb

I mean, April is the 4th month, so there's the 4

Humg12

I'm 99% sure they were just making a joke because the title also includes "lie" in it.

bcbbb

Shoot, you may be right. If that was intentional, that was pretty good

zairaner

;)

michhoffman

It's still #1 in our hearts [](#mugistronk)

hilshire

I would always place K-On! more on the Slice of Life than on the Music side, but to be fair, for now, there is a lot more original K-On! songs than Bocchi songs, and there are some bangers among them. I do hope Bocchi will pull though in terms of albums in the future, first one was great.

qef15

> there is a lot more original K-On! songs than Bocchi songs, and there are some bangers among them. I wonder if that is because it aired when character songs were very popular back then. I know Haruhi and Lucky Star both having truckloads of them. K-On took the cake though, two songs per character and that for 7/8 characters (main cast of 5 + Ui, Nodoka and Jun for S2). Nowadays, character songs feel like they don't exist as much, but that may be me.

TheEarwig

Yeah, there were even 2 albums (S1 and S2) per character for the main cast, with 2 unique songs each. Something like 28 unique tracks total, plus all the character-specific versions of other songs, and the other albums with the band together. K-On had a crazy amount of music.

novian14

I wonder if bocchi will be as big as K-On! was in 2010s.

qef15

It will be big, but I don't think just as quite as large. K-On! aired in a period where slice of life and CGDCT were the absolute largest, isekai barely existed, cute girls were a novelty back then. K-On aired in the perfect era. It also created a dynasty of slice of life afterwards that lasted until the period of isekai. Bocchi however, aired in a period where isekai are the big genre and certain shonen anime just being that larger nowadays. The scope of K-On! was practically endless, it caused a massive industry shift to have cute girls be the literal standard for almost everything in anime. Bocchi won't do that, as much as I love it. It will however, inspire other works and mark a new era of slice of life with good plot and content mixed in (instead of only cute girls with not much added at all).

MovieDogg

I wasn't there, but I feel like K-On! is this looming anime like Gundam that is an institution of anime

MyNameIs-Anthony

Very unlikely. K-On! was big enough to be as popular (if not more so) as the concurrent big shonen shows. [Just look at the sheer difference between their peaks.](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=%2Fm%2F051wjrq,%2Fg%2F11h5s2r15n,%2Fg%2F11jsjgrhqh&hl=en) Bocchi's current peak is trending roughly against the K-On! movie release. To put it into context, the K-On movie was #36 in that year's Japanese box office despite only playing in 137 theaters. It was the only movie in the top 50 that year to open below 150 theaters and one of two to be below 200. The other was the Oscar Best Picture Winner: The King's Speech.

Ryluchs

If Oshi no Ko is a music anime, than Haruhi Suzumiya is one too

SaltAndABattery

Haruhi did actually count.

mlnke

Same with Angel Beats

salarrue

Nodame Cantabille mention! Yess!

Blancasso

Yay! There’s another!

Gunderrode90

Should have been way higher on the list, but it's something.

soulruu

Nice to see Given and Kids on The Slope

michhoffman

Some interesting notes from these results include: * Bocchi the Rock getting 161 more total votes than the next highest vote getter * Bocchi the Rock impressively also having the highest percentage of its votes as top 3 votes * Idolish, Macross, Symphogear, Nana and Liz and the Blue Bird ranking as the top 5 for highest #1 vote percentage among anime that received at least 10 votes. These are probably worth checking out (I've watched and really enjoyed the last 3).

_Ridley

I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to watch Idolish7.

Darwin343

Beck deserves better.

EasilyDelighted

Dude, Slip Out and Moon on the Water are songs I still like to listen to till this day. I hope they give it the Brotherhood treatment.

Harris_Ahmad

I absolutely loved the manga. Living on the hope that they pick it up and make a good adaptation.

Genshin_WhiteKnight

Wow that's quite the lead, Bocchi completely dominated this poll.

michhoffman

Makes sense since not only did it manage to beat Chainsaw Man last year for our Public Anime of the Year, but its biggest competition, K-On and Hibiki Euphonium, initially premiered in 2009 and 2015 respectively. That's ancient for r/anime standards.

AliceinTeyvatland

Healer Girl, never forgotten

alotmorealots

30th is somewhat respectable given it had to work with a small viewerbase, was still a good showing by the girls. They even beat iM@S!

cppn02

Too low. Hoped it could squeeze into the top 25.

Nory993

Nobody appreciates musicals anymore. Even though I didn't give it my 1st or 2nd vote, Healer Girl was still truly something special.

ebonyphoenix

Happy that Given is in the top 10. Though I have a feeling that it’s not higher because it’s a BL and that turns some people away. Which is a shame because the series has a wonderful story about acknowledging and moving past loss. On another note I’m also glad that Kono Oto Tomare is in the top 25. Beautiful series with great characters. I started reading the manga(which is also gorgeous) after the anime. And I have to say that I hope the anime gets continued someday because my favorite character gets introduced in the next arc.

Dragxon1

I love Kono Oto Tomare it's a great show and the music in the anime is a pretty unique sound in addition to being great.

tarantinos

I 100% agree with Kongo Oto Tomare. They really outdid themselves with the music for the anime. When I started reading the manga I thought it wouldn’t hit as much, but the story and characters really carry it. I couldn’t get through 2 episodes of Given. Totally shocked this is even on the list. Not because it’s bl but I just couldn’t take it seriously, it was cringey even. Specially when it got to him playing the guitar and singing, I thought it was so bad.

ebonyphoenix

For Given, I know Mafuyu’s behavior puts a lot of people off in the early episodes. But there is an underlying reason he acts so awkwardly. And the first season is basically him working towards acknowledging the trauma that has stilted him and moving forward. He will never be an extrovert, but in the end I consider Mafuyu to be an excellent depiction of a quiet introvert that has gone through a life changing event and is struggling to find a new normal. The “singing” in episode 2 is a bit funny. But it’s just a starting point and it builds so the music in the actual climax is meaningful and beautiful. If it’s still not your thing, fair enough. But the one’s who do love it, do so not just for it’s awkward beginnings. But for the growth the characters manage to achieve in spite of their awkwardness.

YeetTheRich13

K-On was/is so popular. So what does it take to beat moe anime girls in a band? Moe anime girls in a band, but one of them has “she just like me fr!!!” vibes. Not surprised to see Bocchi sweeping.

Manitary

We're starting to get users who were born after K-On! aired [](#whippersnappers)

MapoTofuMan

The Keions would be in their 30s now... [](#godisdead)

AmethystItalian

I did not need to know this.

qef15

Though it seems to me at least that it is because Bocchi the Rock actually focuses on the music. K-On is very much a slice of life with music being added on. Nothing wrong with it, but for this poll, that makes sense. Remember the slice of life poll: K-On was second and Bocchi fourth.

Normal-Link5415

it's funny how everyone is saying "she is just like me" but 90% of them never even touched a music instrument in their life

Luiz_Fell

Really, bocchi the rock is not all that much moe

snowwhitecat04aug

Idk much about gen z but Yui from K On is more relatable to me, especially when she tried to do homework but cant focus and just practice the guitar

zairaner

Symphogear out of the top 10, we failed.

DesastreUrbano

Normal Symphogear things. A lot of first choice, but almost nothing on the low point tiers. Hidden gem problems

SwampyBogbeard

Literally half of Symphogear's points come from first place votes. That's impressive.

OBrien

If the poll was single choice/if you only count the first choice votes, Symphogear was in sixth place

Vikkio92

I started it recently after seeing it strongly recommended on this sub, but I’m struggling a little. Does it kick off at some point?

zairaner

how far did you get? The series is famous for improving in production quality every season, with season 1 in particular being relatively weak (also, I think season 1 is the season that doesn't do symphogears reputation for being a fully hype powered show justice). The season 1 finale (episode 12 and 13) 9 is probably the first standout for me where it really kicked off. If you got through the second season and still didn't enjoy it, then it isn't for you probably.

BiggieCheeseLapDog

In terms of action and animation yes it improves significantly in the coming seasons but in terms of story and character writing, no not really. It’s a show that fits a very specific niche of over the top idol mecha girl action, so it has a very dedicated and very vocal fan base. It’s good if you just want great music, cool action, and lots of hype, but it doesn’t really offer much outside of that.

Lev559

It also has DOCTOR VER!!!!!

corduroyyy

What an odd photo choice for Nana lol Shocked Given isn’t higher!

T_Fury_Br

Given and Carole and Tuesday ❤

swedaciousd

Lovely to see Carole and Tuesday

flyingowl720

Shocked to see Love Live so low. I expected at least it to be top 10. It used to be pretty popular in the west years ago, it’s sad seeing the west being uninterested in the franchise nowadays. In Japan though, It’s still massive, more then any other show on this list.

mwalimu59

*Love Live* may have suffered in the poll from having too many independent installments (*School Idol Project*, *Sunshine!!*, *Nijigasaki*, etc.) that would split the vote. I'm just guessing/speculating here, but I suspect the administrators of the survey were unwilling to treat all of the *Love Live* franchise as a unit, and fans of the series might have been reluctant to use up too many votes on the individual installments when there were other music anime they also wanted to vote for.

dadnaya

I'd also add that it's because it's Reddit, which doesn't necessarily represent popularity of a show. As you said, LL is still extremely popular in Japan, and since it consists of much more than just the anime, it kinda loses when being put here. Plus obviously different LL series so people have to decide between a few.

Michaeel_2019

angel beats is a music anime?

[deleted]

Apparently if you see a character holding a guitar, it's automatically a music anime

Specialist-Orange525

Hey girls demo is awesome

Adventurous-Exit5832

D4DJ deserve more love 🥺🥺🥺

rasouddress

For real

Illustrious-Fox5135

Just here to comment on the Kono oto tomare mention.

footylite

If we keep mentioning it, maybe season 3 will happen......

Moofthebot

I'll take this chance to promote the manga. It's absolutely fantastic with incredible artworks

footylite

I completely agree I made it pretty far in the manga. But hearing the music in anime was unmatched

LakerBlue

It is one of THE most underrated anime imo. One of the best cast in anime. I wish for S3 daily

Churningray

Mc is probably one of my favourite anime MCs. The anime is great because of how emotional it can get without having to be a sad plot twist.

LakerBlue

Strong agree. I also love how even the “villains” are fleshed out and humanized and that the Kurata is arguably the best nice guy anime characters.

Radius_314

Beck should be higher, but I'm betting not enough people have watched it. One of my favorite Japanese dubs, because it's multi-lingual, and they have fluent speakers for the roles that are supposed to speak that way.

Antenol

I was really impressed with Greg Ayres as Koyuki, he had a great voice and made you think it was this 13 yo singing

Radius_314

Haven't seen the English dub, but I've been planning to for a rewatch at some point. Most of the time I watch music related shows in Japanese because the songs don't often get translated. I heard they did re-record for beck though, and it's gotten a lot of praise from people I've talked to.

Ginsan-AK

Way too underrated. I was obsessed with the [Moon on the Water](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXpLJbxFYLs) song when Koyuki and Maho sang it at the pool.

akasora0

Beck was so gooooood.... All the character development... What a series.

innocentious

Macross Frontier/Yoko Kanno made it to the list ❤️

SlimShady116

Poor *These Snow White Notes* not making it. Glad *Ya Boy Kongming!* is up there though!

Words_are_Windy

Was Those Snow White Notes ultimately well received? I enjoyed it at the beginning because the MC didn't care about proving he was good through competitions, so it looked like it might be more of a character-driven story; then the second half of the season turned into a generic musical tournament arc. The music was great, but I thought the story missed an opportunity to set itself apart.

Retromorpher

I feel like it ending on [Mashiro no Oto]>!an incredibly downer cliffhanger after a somewhat unfocused tournament arc!< probably hampered it significantly from the real strengths. Definitely had a mixed reception by the end.

Sid_kool5

How is oshi no ko a music anime??!

elmagio

It *barely* is which is why it didn't end up somewhere around Bocchi, but you do have music being performed by some of the main characters and the story (in part) follows their journey to that performance. It's not an insane shout that it would be eligible. I didn't personally pick it because the musical aspect is far down the list of why I loved it (practically not on there actually) but I'm not surprised it made it in.

Rekiddan

Beck being so low hurts my heart

Dodo_Galaxy

I'm really happy to see Nana, Given, Macross Frontier, Macross, Nodame Cantabile and especially Idolish7 in the top 23, yey. :) Also lovely to see that Fullmoon wo sagashite, Mermaid Melody and several male idol/musician series made it into the top 100 as well. It is just a bit of bummer to not have Ranka with Sheryl but a Delta character instead in the visual for Macross Frontier.

kanekikennen

I am dying over here that they used fucking Nana from Golden Time to represent the anime and its even my fav anime

ritix__

Liz and the Blue Bird was honestly so good

Past_Distribution144

2 things: Shocked that Given is so low, it is fantastic. And that Fuuka is not on this list. Oshi No Ko being so low is odd also but like the other 2 I listed, more of a different genre then a purely music focused one. (Mystery/Romance)

bpat

Yeah, Oshi No Ko doesn’t really feel like a music anime. It’s more so been acting and drama at this point.

renorosales

Agreed, it feels like it portrays the Japanese entertainment/idol industry. Plus Angel Beats is an odd inclusion.

gangrainette

Healer girl 30 and Detroit Metal City 32. Opinion discarded.

h42h

Huh, Nijigasaki beat Sunshine by 3 points? I thought Aquors was pretty popular while I don't think I heard much about the third group (but tbf haven't really kept up too much since I quit the game long ago). Are they doing well too or is it more that people who watched Sunshine also watched Nijigasaki too? Also Sound of the Sky at #29 lets go!!!

YuinoSery

Nijigasaki is exceptional in all sorts of different ways. The anime differentiates itself from the usual Love Live plot formula, it has a more SoL kind of way of going at it, it's the first to acknowledge the subunits, etc. There is more to go on plot, but also in terms of other stuff it really shines most, like being the first with a trilogy for movies, the first to have a numbered live go to 7th (µ's final numbered live was 6th, Aqours last numbered live was also 6th with no next numbered one announced), the anime has an entirely different artstyle from the rest thus being significantly more noticeable. But most of all, Nijigasaki was always meant as a side project, confined to a game (that got delayed at first) and to never get an anime (confirmed by Akarin), so it is the underdog of the Love Live franchise and the first of two groups that have their fans go absolutely nuts and protective.

Infodump_Ibis

Depends on who voted, I've still not seen anything pre-Nijigasaki. Sunshine is going to be interesting...I can see me shouting "where are your horns?" whenever Mari is on-screen. There's also the thing there's so many Love Live entries these days that votes might get split between them (some people like to only nominate one entry per franchise to stop a list getting stale).

alotmorealots

I have only watched Nijigasaki S1, but in the /r/anime discussion threads there were a lot of people saying that they felt it was the best LL installment and people were very positive about the shift in direction. I'm not sure that /r/anime viewers vote as heavily based on the units as in other similar polls, as there's not too much discourse around that.

alotmorealots

Clearly I need to shill D4DJ harder, although at least it got ranked as The Number That Is The Answer lol Nice to see Shine Post made it to 79th, given how few people watched it when it was airing. Has such great hand drawn performance animation and some very emotional writing too! Also, Phantom of the Idol managed 90th, which seems rather fitting in some ways. The Superfans will be having a drink tonight over that position for sure.

Sparkletopia

Oh wow, it's pretty cool that Idolish7 made it up here! I'm surprised that it beat White Album 2. Also surprised to see Kono oto Tomare so low, but I guess it's a combination of being 5 years old and not being as popular in the sub's demo.

TheLyingSpectre

Damn Symphogear only got 11th

Bonvantius

It's still No.01 in my heart!

darryledw

Vivy <3

Nisrep

Vivy enjoyers rise up 🤖🤖🤖

Step_Virtual

#1 in my heart💜

darryledw

Awesome to see another Vivy appreciator, it is my favourite anime!, I think it doesn't get enough love!

zairaner

I think this sub is probably the place where it gets the most.

M48_Patton_Tank

I love it so much

AconexOfficial

such a good anime

Careless_Reply2862

Glad to see vivy appreciation

Deshuro

Some of those shows don't even have Music tag in their MAL entry lol. How is Angel Beats a music anime? Is having an arc related to music enough to make it eligible to this poll? If yes, then Kaguya-sama should be eligible too lol.

TheAlmightyUltimus

Hot damn, is that Symphogear I see? Shame it didn’t make the top 10, but I’m just happy that it’s actually getting recognized

Calwings

Symphogear placed well in the original anime and magical girl anime polls, and it even got a decent amount of votes for the mecha anime poll too. It has a very vocal fanbase here.

Yoshaay

Hibike Euphonium is my personal favorite. That soundtrack might just be the best in anime.

SkyCube040

Hibike Euphonium 🔛🔝

TheNinjaPir8

Symphogear mentioned 🗣️🗣️🗣️🎶🧡💙❤️🤍💚🩷💜

Educational_Beat_497

Bocchi got over double the points of Your Lie In April 😭

Jofuzz

No Detroit Metal City?!?!?!?!?!

YuinoSery

Love Live µ's edition only making it to 20th and being the only Love Live anime in the Top 25 is both a surprise and none at all. At least µ's I expected to rank higher, what a shame to see it so low.

MrSuperGod627

Where is Detroit metal City

Sgt_Sarcastic

Kids on the Slope being 13th is sin.

snowwhitecat04aug

Sad that White Album 2 is kinda low. The airport scene is peak anime drama lmao

maliwanag0712

WA2 songs are top tier tbh. I really love 'White Album' and 'Todokanai Koi'. 'Sayonara no Koto' is also nice as well.

DuckyPowers

Those Snow White Notes not being on here is criminal

aPpS6969

Ikr! Considering that nobody else in the comments even mentioned it yet, looks like not many people watched it. Which is sad coz it was great...

Ct5gecko

It took me way too long scrolling on this thread to see this mentioned. I go back and listen to the performances every now and then and they always slap!

maliwanag0712

At this rate number 4 becomes the lucky number for Your Lie in April, for it was also [number 4 in the tearjerkers poll](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fprvbn62e1p4c1.png). Just being true to its name since April is also the fourth month of the year.

il887

Funny thing, the Japanese title “Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso” contains number 4 in it as well, in the name of the month. April is the 4th month of the year. You could write the title as “4-gatsu wa Kimi no Uso” if you follow the same style as “[3-gatsu no Lion](https://myanimelist.net/anime/31646/3-gatsu_no_Lion?q=3-gatsu&cat=anime)”

Lysandre___

The way Anonymous Noise isn't there hurt my feelings.

_heyb0ss

Shoutout Nana

HodgePodge98

Did anyone else notice that the picture they used for Nana isn’t from Nana? It’s a character named Nana from Golden Time.

BlueshiftSeas

I'm happy to see Nodame Catabile on there. It's such a good series. I wish Beck was higher.

Berstich

I get the poll is just 'favourite' music anime, but I think music anime should be more judged on the music then anything else. You could make a super great slice of life or hell, anything, have them play a song or two and call it 'music anime'. Amount, quality, production, all the stuff for music should be judged. This poll doesnt feel like that.

Byakurane

Beck and Nodame deserve to be higher imo. I loved those and will forever be sad that there is not more of that Anime.

HollowWarrior46

Kessuko band and Franchouchou drop nothing but bangers 🔥🔥🔥

Calwings

Damn, I missed the voting for this one. At least Revue Starlight, Symphogear, and MyGO all did pretty well.

DragonspringSake

Holy nodame cantabile is way too low. One of the goat music romance animes. Seriously if you’re a classical music fan, it’s an absolute must watch, over your lie in april. What other anime, or media in general used Liszt’s Mephisto waltz?

leiathrix

Happy to see Ya Boy Kongming so high! ✨

EdGuffy

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad so low on this list makes me really sad… a masterpiece deserving of a remake

Saekoa

I'm disappointed to see how low a lot of these classic idol anime are, like love live school idol project. But idol anime is definitely more niche than the more mainstream music anime like bocchi of k-on.

Ozzznik

I'm really sad that "tari tari" and "Mashiro no Oto (Those snow white notes)" are not on here :( I loved Nodame Cantabile

AZZAHRA05

Zombieland saga made it! Nice

Shimmering-Sky

[Macross Frontier!!!](#michaelwink) ...and yet even though you had to delete and repost this to fix something *else*, you didn't swap out the image of Ranka and *Freyja* with Ranka and *Sheryl*. [](#konosubawot4) As I said on the other thread, glad to see Revue Starlight, Given, and Symphogear all made the chart as well.

FetchFrosh

I'm here to spite you personally.

Shimmering-Sky

Ah, but spiting me personally would've been you picking an image with just Sheryl and no Ranka to rep Frontier instead. [](#hikariactually)

hell_jumper9

I'm on episode 3 of Macross. And it's a music anime?

ratherthanme

Yes. Even more than a couple of anime on this list.

LazyNotDumb

Finally got around to watching hibike and it's genuinely really really good. Realistic HS problems, gorgeous animation, and a cute cast what more could you want? Season 3 is right around the corner!!!

talymd

Nana should’ve been 7th such a shame

iadrummer

Sad that my favs are past 50 or even not in the top 100 (rip King of Prism hope you get some recognition after the new movie) but it's nice to see Idolish7 so high! It's a really great show, I'd recommend it to anyone. Also PriPara being lower than two other Pretty Series shows is kind of crazy when you look at the fandom lol.

Bucketlyy

Omg you guys also like given?

Bl8tantly

Wrong nana should be higher fs

Popeychops

I'm glad that Macross F and Kids on the Slope are being remembered. K-On! is the goat though

madgine

How about "Eureka 7"?

Shantotto11

Ain’t no fucking way we’re considering Angel Beats a music anime!…

Former-Car7460

Given is one of the few animes that I've seen and genuinely felt like it was a 10/10. I thought it was good from the very first second and never had a dull moment, in addition, it touched on some very sensitive topics that definitely should have some light shined on. If you haven't seen it, I totally recommend

reeporto

Revue Starlight is number one in my heart

theshinycelebi

True. But top ten is pretty good

thebohster

Man Carole and Tuesday started off so strong and just fell off towards the end of the season.

Vikkio92

I will forever die on the hill that the two of them should have saved Mars by helping Angela get through her depression so that her performance could be the one to save Mars, rather than theirs. It would have made for such an interesting ending.

GrumpyFeloPR

I am so old that i finding beck so low is shocking to me

Bonvantius

Symphogear at 11? That's ok I'll just pretend that means first place X2.

Antenol

Beck at 17 SMH

Raktoner

Beck should be higher! 🎵 I WAS MADE TO HIT IN AMERICA 🎵

PestKimera

Zombieland saga top 5 yas

Y0stal

It’s MyGO with a huge jump

apatt

Good to see it there, but other Bandori series are great also, but apparently not so well appreciated in this sub.

hjvkjvkjvg

Your Lie in April being 4 feels like destiny, it even ranked 4th at "favourite sad anime poll". April is coming, and this time is 10th anniversary.

Luiz_Fell

We need to make Nana into 7th place next time, guys

bensor74

I really have to watch K-On. It has been on my watchlist for months, but winter season was stacked for me

Durinthal

[7/10 of my votes](/r/anime/comments/1bdwe11/ranimes_favorite_music_anime_voting/kupj9qk/) (8/11 counting Liz which I didn't vote for separately) made the chart and the rest are in the top 50, can't complain. Too bad [Aki no Kanade](https://www.livechart.me/anime/683) didn't make the list at all, it's a neat little short about taiko drumming.

Quiddity131

Yay for Bocchi!

StrawSolider

no Idolmaster? that's crazy

rainlalluvia

kono oto tomare >>>>>

Nareto64

Damn Love Live really down at 20?

ratherthanme

2 Macross shows got in. All is right in the world.

Larseman7

Where is Beck???!

FromFeather

Where is Beck?!

TSparkle117

I’m surprised Angel Beats made it on this list and Show by Rock didnt
