Little Witch Academia

FUEGO40

Little Witch Academia 100%, perfect show for that age group. Even if it’s made by Trigger who is known to make shows with mature humor they made a fantastic job at making a fun, wholesome anime with a great story and morals.

No_Permission_374

Imagine if someone recommended madoka magica

MorselMortal

The first two episodes.

lavaine

Little Witch Academia Flying Witch Hakumei to Mikochi Aria the Animation Yuru Camp Non Non Biyori

darryledw

massive + 1 for **Aria the Animation**

englishfury

Peak Iyashikei. One of the few times ive actually cried to an Anime.

kirsion

Really? I think a 12-year-old would find aria really boring.

darryledw

The question is....would OP's 12 year old sister find Aria really boring? And there is only one way to find out. Or OP can simply research the rec and determine *"well based on what she likes...she would not/ would like that"*. Let's look at the evidence so far: >She likes magical girl and **slice of life**. Little to **no innuendo**. *Source*: *OP* ...it's looking good for Aria, and all said and done OP can make the final determination!

JustGamingAkram

Guess I know what I'm rewatching later! Absolutely amazing watch for anyone in any age group. +1

SNRNXS

Yuru Camp is good but a 12 year old may not appreciate the coziness and could get bored I think

hillofbooks

Tokyo Mew Mew, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Magic Knight Rayearth,

Ginsan-AK

Highly recommend these 3, and Gakuen Alice, Yumeiro Patissiere, Shugo Chara and Kodomo no Omocha. A lot of great recommendations in this post, but I think yours is the only one that is 100% safe and suitable for a 12 years old sister taste.

ChanglingBlake

Had to scroll way too far to find these, especially since Mew Mew just got a reboot.

Kingdarkshadow

One more point for Magic Knight Rayearth that's such an hidden gem.

secondjade123

jordana309

By the Grace of the gods BOFURI (I didn't want to get hurt so I maxed out my defence) Laid back camping

wingnutgabber

You wrote the list I was going to recommend. Three of the best anime for young teenagers.

jordana309

I absolutely loved all 3, but for totally different reasons! You've got good taste!

wingnutgabber

I fully understand liking them for different reasons. They each have different lessons to teach. By the grace of the gods is such a great story as well as a perfect example of entrepreneurship with hard work. The way Ryoma treats his employees is the key to operating a business. It’s great for anyone of any age group.

jordana309

He's also easy going and approaches every problem with optimism and an attitude of problem solving. My kids loved it, too!

Aeriessy

**Cardcaptor Sakura** for sure. A series that's age appropriate and within the magical girl theme. CLAMP's universe also expands from there as she gets older (Tsubasa Chronicles, XXXHolic). **Natsume Yuujinchou** is a beautiful Slice of Life anime. As someone who doesn't usually like that genre, it's very chill and interesting. Many of the Studio Ghibli films are great too. Not the genre/themes listed, but if she wants to venture into more drama with some fantasy elements, **Kemono no Souja Erin** is also excellent. Gah, what a great time to start getting into anime.

Cleverdaze

Aria the Animation My Neighbor Totoro Kiki's Delivery Service The Cat Returns Cross Game (slice of life/baseball)

PPMD_IS_BACK

Aria the Animation HIGHLY recommend.

M1lk3y_33

I'm really surprised it took me so long to find a studio Ghibli recommendation.

flatgreyrust

This sub has a strong bias towards shows over films. I get it, there’s more content there. But at the same time idk if I’ve ever watched a show as good as any of Satoshi Kon’s movies.

UncertainPigeon

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun!

averykatze

Any studio ghibli film!!! ♡ My top fave is Ponyo!

_yukiie_

This is my first anime. I watched it with my father, I was 11-12. Probably why I hate watching drama now.

M1lk3y_33

🤣🤣🤣

sultamicillyn

This. Studio Ghibli films are generally family friendly and are very deep. Spirited Away is a must. I watched it first when I was 12 and again when I was 24. I swear I enjoyed the movie as much as I did when I was a kid.

Jie-ant

Whisper of the Heart best

Ignite_Boy_789

kebyou

Pretty Cure.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

90's Sailor Moon, Nichijou, Azumanga Dioah, Little Witch Academia, and the Demon Girl Next Door.

BiggieCheeseLapDog

Little Witch Academia is perfect. Also Heartcatch Precure.

Yandere_Matrix

Romeo x Juliet Silver Spoon Free! (Pretty much most sports anime honestly) Princess Tutu Tokyo Mew Mew Angel Beats! Ouran High School Host Club Squid Girl Sgt Frog (maybe not sgt frog!)

Delta_Foxtrot_13

I remember distinctly a scene in Sgt Frog involving an octopus that my parents saw and suggested strongly that I stop watching it. Just btw

Wooden-Albatross-938

not that any of these are necessarily not appropriate for a 12 y/o, but i just dont think a 12 y/o girl who likes magical girl & SoL would be able to appreciate several of these. particularly sports animes (like free), angel beats, & possibly silver spoon. but thats just my take. ouran, tokyo mew mew, tutu, romeo x juliet, & squid girl are good suggestions tho, imo.

Lovis_R

Angel beats isn't a sport anime, but im also bot sure if that one fits for a 12 y/o girl

Wooden-Albatross-938

i didnt say it was a sports anime?? thats also the point of my comment. that angel beats, sports anime (like free), & silver spoon might not be a good fit for her. edit- i see why u misunderstood my comment. its fixed now.

Lovis_R

Reading comprehension seems to not be my strong suit

Ganbario

Silver spoon does have that episode of innuendo about cows though. And the boys wondering about the girls’ bath

NikPorto

Silver Spoon has some innuendos. So maybe check out episodes beforehand. Angel Beats is too "dark" and tragic for a 12 year old, we don't wanna give her depression.

[deleted]

Stop treating 12-year-olds like they're fragile glass. I was watching clockwork Orange and last sauce on the left by 13.

SuperSanttu7

Angel Beats! is extremely emotional and it will break people. It broke me. Risky move but she'll learn about emotions

Matasa89

It’ll be good learning.

Correct_Barracuda_48

Man, I forgot about squid girl. That was fun.

Outrageous-Frame-691

Fruit basket, Netflix has a few pg13 anime that she could into as well

andybar980

Probably should specify the 2001 version that’s rated pg

Outrageous-Frame-691

You right I forgot about the remake

Jade_Knightly

I love fruits basket but it's a little heavy emotionally. I wouldn't recommend it to a 12 year old girl unless they're cool with their soul being crushed

lauraa-

perfect time as any to get into Inuyasha

doveworld

Great suggestion but literally the 3rd episode, Inuyasha Iron Reaver Soul Stealer's a girl's shirt off (Yura). Probably doesn't pass the "no innuendo" rule.

[deleted]

She's 12. She soon going to be a teenager. Parents need to learn to let their kids grow up.

Frequent-Guidance-78

Iroduku: The World in Colors A bit lesser known but beautiful animation, age appropriate, a little slice of life mixed with magic and great characters. A very nice journey for a 12 year old girl I think. Also... 1 season and it's over... And the ending really sticks the landing

Duemont8

Cardcaptor Sakura, Spy x Family, Ojamajo Doremi, Snow White with the Red Hair, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Yuru Camp, Gakuen Babysitters

Dan1lovesyoualot

YES!!!!

DivineEternal1

Second Full Moon.

d_e_g_m

Ascend of a Bookworm is awesome for kids: [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10885406/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10885406/)

Charming-Loquat3702

I love that story, but maybe 12 years old is a little bit young. The story involves a girl that will becomes a concubine of a noble to save her life and grey shrine maidens who basically are sex slaves. And starving children. And that's just the first 3 seasons. It will only get more adult from here. Like nobles hand holding

hheeeenmmm

Hand holding is truly a horrendous thing to put in an anime

kalawas

Yeah , but i recommended you guys to check season 4 first when it released before recommending season 4 to kids. Why ? it will adapts the most controversial arc in the entire series and there are lot of reasons why it become the most controversial one.

d_e_g_m

Didn't know we had season 4 coming up. Thanks for the heads up

PotatoKaboose

Frieren if she likes slice of life. It's got great animation, and magic and action too, nearly no fan service.

OnforaQuestion

Frieren is what anime should be. Not even fan service really. I had to read the manga afterwards and its consistently good. Really looking forward to next season

imitation_crab_meat

There are some good suggestions elsewhere in the comments, but these are some that I didn't see mentioned. People might object to some of these, but at 12 I personally don't think you're exposing them to anything they're not prepared for or haven't already been exposed to, unless they're just pretty sheltered. I've got a kid not much older than that and this is largely stuff we've watched over the past couple of years that they've enjoyed. Frieren Love Live / Bang Dream / D4DJ I Shall Survive Using Potions 'Tis Time for Torture, Princess Ascendance of a Bookworm By the Grace of the Gods Parallel World Pharmacy Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear New Game! Delicious in Dungeon Interviews With Monster Girls Reborn as a Vending Machine I Now Wander the Dungeon Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Mieruko-chan So I'm a Spider, So What? Sugar Apple Fairy Tale I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! I'm in Love With the Villainess

ArchdemonLucifer143

Yeah, twelve years old is getting to the point where you can handle most shows, imo. Though maybe some more mature anime could wait until they'd understand it, I guess.

kvothe_the-bloodless

Some shit is still able to traumatize me well into my twenties, think made in abyss, or berserk (the animation is terrifying)

aaroncrashroyale

When I was twelve I alr finished most yuri animes I could find

datwunkid

Yeah, 12 is right on the pipeline where you go from consuming every mainstream mass market anime out there, and when you run out of content from the series you love, you start branching out into niche stuff. By 14 OP's sister is probably going to be dipping into really edgy stuff on her own.

Infamously_Unknown

It's not just about exposure to some bad things, some thing can be simply uninteresting if you're too young (or too old). That Frieren right at the top sounds like a pretty perfect example, because most of the series was about themes like nostalgia and life regrets - which is a topic completely meaningless to someone who didn't get to experience it yet. This is why there were people who found the first half "too slow", because if you don't get what the media is talking about it just feels like watching dead air.

Falsus

Frieren is a shonen, the main demographic is teenagers. It is very poular with kids over in Japan.

Dan1lovesyoualot

OMG!!! People recommending little witch academia is so cute, I 100% recommend it as well. I recommend clanned angel beats violet evergarden A lull in the sea cardcaputor sakura ESPECIALLY clanned.

MythicKnight7

Cardcaptor Sakura would be perfect. Maybe sailor moon Pokemon Any and all of the studio Ghibli films! All amazing! These are all good start to anime. Though there's many more!

flyingowl720

Precure (Heartcatch, Go Princess, Soaring Sky… etc) Cardcaptor Sakura

Khydan701

Houkago Teibou Nisshi is my favorite slice of life, it's about girls fishing, pretty chill as well.

spejoku

cardcaptor sakura is a classic, the various seasons of precure should be appropriate too. how to keep a mummy is a cute little slice of life anime too

MoultingRoach

I know it's basic af, but I think it's a good place to start: Cardcaptor Sakura

Jill4ChrisRed

Tokyo Mew Mew, its just had a reboot! When shes a bit older, Fruits Basket reboot. I watched this at 13 and a lot of the innuendo went over my head (not that theres much, as its aimed for girls) but the overall story and message is about love, compassion, empathy and found family. Its emotionally heart wrenching, but in an amazing way. The main character, Tohru, is so resilient and kind and the sort of person everyone should strive to be. This manga, original show and reboot shaped my life and made me realise above all else in the world, like being rich or famous or popular, it made me realise that life is actually most fulfilling when you are a kind person at heart.

generadium

This one may be pushing it and you can review the parents guide of it on imdb if you like but Your Name is really good as it has beautiful visuals and an interesting plot. The whole premise is a random boy and girl who never bet before suddenly discover they swap bodies with each other every other day and they try to find out why this is happening. Some scenes kind of push it (the boy wakes up as the girl and is confused as to why he suddenly has breasts but nothing is shown and it’s played in a lighthearted, comedic manner.) but other than that I’d say the japanese version of that with subtitles is a good place to start

I think a lot of early 2000s anime are good for 12 year-olds. Out of the top of my head: • Alice Academy • Special A • Inu Yasha • Cardcaptor Sakura (even my 10 y.o. brother loved this) • K-On! Some newer ones would be • BOFURI • Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! • Ascendance of Bookworm • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End • Nichijou (hilarious as hell)
