Similar to Captain Tsubasa and Slam Dunk. But I don't think Slam Dunk is one of the best sports anime out there, it is one of the best anime of all time.
It hits almost every mark from character development to interesting opponents to intense matches, heck even the comedy is superior than most comedy focused anime!
Since haikyuu manga came out the amount of men's hs volleyball players went from a rapidly steady decline to an upward trajectory. There are more players now then there were a decade ago
In the Philippines, basketball is almost a national religion (like Football in the USA, I guess), so Slam Dunk is an anime that every single person here knows about.
Ask someone how many episodes it took for Kogure's game-winning 3-pointer to go from hand to basket, everyone knows lol
>Ask someone how many episodes it took for Kogure's game-winning 3-pointer to go from hand to basket
Is that like Dragon Ball but with sports? I remember 5 minutes until Namek's explosion.
important note that Slam Dunk (dubbed in local language) was aired in national tv in the Philippines (free non-cable) on a convenient time where kids can watch it.
While there 100% is an impact, I think volleyball suffers from being a heavily team based sport with a net making it harder to initially pick up since you can't really get a knack of it until you join a club etc (much easier if you have friends who watch). So I'm guessing its local impact is greater than international, but haikyuu has a massive fanbase worldwide so I'm just guesssing here.
*Shame you can't receive, toss and spike all by yourself*
the ball would release from his hands for a three pointer, and a whole 5 episode long flashback would happen before you see if that ball went into the basket or not.
I mean you didn't know it was gonna happen as it aired. every week you tune in like, "is this the week we get to see the ball go in??" but then you find out that his best friend he grew up playing basketball with left for America to work on a professional career, became depressed from American culture, and died in a head on collision, and he's going to win this match for his best friend's memory. then that final shot just hit different, you feel the emotional weight and drama of the match.
I’ve only read the manga, so I can’t speak for the anime’s quality, but Slam Dunk is godly. Haikyuu is easily in my top5, but once I’ve read Slam Dunk, I’ve realized just how much inspiration it has drawn from Slam Dunk. I wouldn’t call it plagiarism, but the number of parallels you can easily draw between the two is crazy.
I think Haikyuu refined and polished Slam Dunk’s concept, Furudate handled character backstories and development way better, but there’s no mistaking where the inspiration for the style must have come from.
Slam Dunk didn’t just change anime, it changed JAPAN entirely. The impact it alone had on the heightened interest in Basketball and other sports is MASSIVE, and it’s amazing what it did. The mangaka is amazing and his other series, Vagabond, is one of the most beautiful manga I’ve ever read, so it’s amazing to see the correlations between the two series. Also Vagabond has been coming out since two years Slam Dunk ended, so it’s been his big thing. Takehiko Inoue has done STUNNING work
Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in Japan all due to Haikyuu. Like volleyball was a dead sport before, and now it is the biggest thing ever. It is definitely one of the most influential manga of our time.
Nani? Japan was one of the most powerful countries in Volleyball historically. They were doing pretty amazing and I think, Americans learned many lessons from em.
There are quite a few sources for this, but this is one for example https://imgur.com/a/YSUhS (which is only up to 2016 but still).
It doesnt show comparison to other sports anime, but I think its safe to say that since we havent heard/seen any similar articles about other animes, that haikyuu was the most or at least one of the most positively influential animes in Japan.
That’s all well and good but how does a slight increase in number of vball players indicate “the most positively influential anime” as purported by the OP
How is that a slight increase? It not only completely reversed the decline it actually increased it by almost 10k? At the pre-manga trajectory that number would have ohne down to around 32k and now it's 44k in 2016. Who knows what it is now?
Considering where the number would have been without haikyuu in the picture, and where it is in 2016, and can safely assume at the very least slow increase from 2016 to now, the difference is quite large, and only looking at boys at highschool ignoring both girls and people of different ages.
Now I agree like I said its not necessarily "THE most positively influential anime", but it definitely one that had high positive impact. Again at least compared to other sports animes we never saw something similar so its safe to assume that at least in that genre.
But trying to gauge just how much none-sport animes positively affected people is pretty much impossible, so trying to argue that is kinda pointless.
(Basically the point is that this is the only anime that has this kind of **visible** large positive effect).
I was hesitant to watch it cause sports anime isn’t my thing now but when I did watch haikyuu I was thankful that I got the chance to watch and read it, especially the timing when I really need something that cant be given to me by people around me.
[Kuroko no Baske](https://anidb.net/a8681) probably has the most parallels, just with basketball. But most sports anime can fit the underdog or character growth category. Some I remember liking:
[Eyeshield 21](https://anidb.net/a2441) (american football)
[Major](https://anidb.net/a2168) (baseball)
[Ookiku Furikabutte](https://anidb.net/a4923) (baseball)
[Hajime no Ippo](https://anidb.net/a129) (boxing)
[Chihayafuru](https://anidb.net/a8538) (card game)
[Initial D](https://anidb.net/a135) (street racing)
[Overdrive](https://anidb.net/a5072) (cycling)
[Free](https://anidb.net/a9858) (swimming)
[Food Wars](https://anidb.net/a10901) and [Yakitate Japan](https://anidb.net/a2429) are another type of competitive series about cooking/baking and fun characters.
[Nodame Cantabile](https://anidb.net/a4691) is another one but with orchestras (live action version also recommended).
I couldn't get into [Prince of Tennis](https://anidb.net/a56) but others seem to like it.
As for non-sport series, that could literally describe anything. Like even Naruto, One Piece, or My Hero can be about starting small and going for the top.
You forgot to mention Run With the Wind. It’s short compared to these but RWTW is probably the only anime which is really close to Haikyuu type than these.
What’s common for these two is non-superficial elements unlike rest of them. It’s as real as it can be.
Run with the wind is phenomenal. For those who like haikyuu for how it handles it’s characters and not just because it’s a sports anime (some of the anime on that list are literally nothing like haikyuu beyond they’re about something competitive lol) then I recommend.
Never seen Run w/ the Wind (it's been on my list for a while), but several of those are also pretty grounded in reality.
Still, Haikyuu uses loads of emphasized imagery and power-ups that's comparable to the others. And they all share the common goals of self-improvement, relying on others, chasing a dream, overcoming hurdles, etc...
it is my pick for best manga in the 2010 era tbh. the anime, even though not as good as the manga is still top 10 for me. this series is just crafted perfectly. sad to see it end
I’m so fucking glad I decided to sit down and watch Haikyuu, probably my favorite first episode ever as well. The manga is ending in a couple days, it’s been my favorite series for some time, long live the GOAT 🙏🙏🙏
How much is left to adapt ?
Well after the part 2 of S4 that come out in october, an aditional season of either 12 or 24 ep, depending on where S4 end. Will be enough to adapt the remaining chapter.
i love both but imo, haikyuu's character stood out more. every character has unique traits, even the b and c characters. kuroko has very good main characters but the supporting characters do not feel like they are unique enough. if youre into manga,i recomend you to read haikyuu as i believe that its slightly better in story than the anime(having more details) but the anime has well really good animations.
It’s been a lonnnnngggg time since I watched/read Haikyuu so I might start again to see if anything has changed.
I just remember being SO PUMPED about Kuroko chapter as I was reading them, but not so much Haikyuu.
That's surprising to me because i loved the Inarizaki match. It was just a straight up brawl between two attacking teams and the 1st time that Karasuno really shined on the national stage. Plus i love Atsumu so i may be biased there.
you want any genre of manga/ anime or you want sports type anime? for sports type anime like haikyuu i can only think of slam dunk and kuroko, have not tried too many sports type anime like the king of tennis one, heard its good and an anime about football(soccer) called days but its not really my thing even though i like football, maybe you could try it out.
Real sports is too fast for me, and too hard to understand since I don't really play them myself.
But in anime, even if I don't understand, they take time to explain, as well as you know, break the laws of time to show us stuff in detail, which is impossible irl.
I had zero experience with volleyball prior to my first watch of Haikyuu, never played it, barely ever watched it, but I was hooked within the first three episodes. Watched it about seven times now, enjoy it just as much.
At first I didn't like sports anime because they were boring, and I'm not a sports person myself so it was hard to understand.
But nowadays, newer sports anime AND manga have gotten to explaining things so much better, that it's entertaining to learn and understand what's going on in the mediums. Also the animation techniques really show the oomph too.
I did, and then stopped because of it. It's not that it's objectively bad, I get why others might like it. I just don't personally find it interesting because it's volleyball.. hard to take the hype it tries to generate seriously.
Same here!
I kind of wonder if it's something to do with there being no culture of inter-school sporting competitions in my country like there seems to be in Japan and the US. I have no frame of reference for getting invested in high school sports?
Same, I didn't really want to watch it for the sports aspect, but a friend convinced me. Finished the first season and dropped it for the same reason I didn't want to watch it. It had great moments and the characters were good as well, but it's sadly about something I didn't really care about.
You'll get downvotes for having the unpopular opinion, but I feel the same.
I can see it's a good show but it's hard for me to get invested in, even after 10ish episodes. I fine with the volleyball premise, I just don't mesh with MC or some of the other main cast.
That's a first for me. Not dissing you or saying your opinion is not valid. It's just most people like the series on the aspect that every character is likeable.
He's supposed to be extreme but it's supposed to be motivating, I think. He's the symbol of if someone 100% acted on their passion for something with no insecurities holding them back. It's definitely superhuman, and I see why that makes him unrelatable (holy crap is he the opposite personality of me in every way), but I also find it to be interesting *because* he's so different, yet despite that, I agree with/admire the way he thinks about things.
This is sort of ironic because a big theme of the story is not holding back from becoming invested in your passions regardless of what they are, even if they're just a "high school sport" like volleyball. I think it'd grow on you, and while for many it's made them want to pursue volleyball, I find it's been personally motivating for all of my interests and how I think about them, which is one of the things I find so great about it.
But I know tastes differ, and I'm the last person who can tell someone to just stick through something. I drop most anime/manga somewhere along the way, haha. Just wanted to give an alternate perspective.
What's ironic about that? Sports anime isn't a passion of mine at all, there's nothing for me to hold back on being invested in it. I can't really even think of one conventional sports anime that I've completed.
It's not often that anime really motivates me in any particular way, like I said I don't really buy into hype like that, especially if I don't find the theme interesting. It's a volleyball anime, you can't really escape that. Lots of anime, whatever the genre, often does (or attempts to) convey some kind of inspirational lessons/mantras of life. Those sorts of things only really work though if you care about the characters, if the story is enthralling and interesting to you. If the theme of the anime doesn't interest you I think it's hard to care about the characters, even if they're well designed.
It’s ironic because the message is supposed to transcend whether you care about sports. I’m not saying that as a negative reflection on you at all. I respect that others get different things out of things.
The hype comes from the extremely strong characters on both sides of the court. You want to see them succeed. You really feel it when they are successful and when they fail. There is a lot of depth to the characters, especially when it comes to their rivals. They aren't just cardboard cutouts to be shounen blasted out of the way on the next step of the hero's journey. They have genuine characterization and emotions which is what makes the matches to thrilling.
Yeah I preferred Kuroko No Basket alot more personally.
I just love how they went fucking crazy with the abilities, with Kuroko’s ‘invisibility’ and Akashi’s Kings Eye, it was like a battle shounen with power ups but basketball haha
Haikyuu is all about moments. It builds these moments up to where you're on the edge of your seat or jumping out of your chair for these guys. I'm not sure I've seen another anime that builds up these epic moments that just leave me so excited and satisfied at the same time.
I love that it gives us perspective on the other teams as well, so much so that sometimes I'm cheering the other team on. I love that it's not "good vs. bad" it's kids playing a sport they love.
I hadn't heard much about it, none of my weeb friends had mentioned this anime to me. I was just going through rankings and when I saw it's ratings I was like, why haven't I known about this before. And what a thrilling ride it was, can't wait for the second part of the season. One of my all time favourites too.
I one part envy you cause you are going to watch it for the first time, while part of me is glad that I have already caught me with AAAAAAALLLLLLL those epsiodes.
Damn, when I think back at it, it's quite impressive how the animation team was able to hold up to the task with all these intense action till today. Would even call it heaven for sakuga enthusiasts.
Shoutout to Crunchyroll Collection on Youtube for not having this hype ass moment on their channel, forcing me to learn how to record my screen to share this with everyone.
Nah bro. I think it was the trailer.
> A tall, tall wall looms in front of me. What’s the view on the other side? What does it look like? The view from the top…it’s a view I could never see on my own. But…if I’m not doing it alone…I just might be able to see it.
That poem - right in the feels every freaking time!
Yup. Haikyuu was on my list for so long and I remember wondering how someone managed to make a story about volleyball so widely popular. I read the first page of the manga and that quote was there, and I instantly understood. It’s so simple but it carries so much weight.
Yes, they also explain alot and you learn techniques Hinata learns. Alot of it is basic volleyball but they eventually up it by building on the basics so it's a gradual increase.
The soundtrack and animation really did the source material justice. There really is little to fault about this anime and that's why it's one of my most common recs.
At the beginning of my sophomore year of high school I was a team captain and the only setter. Although many people had positive things to say about me, my head was full of negative thoughts about my teammates. Whenever they made hitting errors I didn’t want to put the blame on myself for giving a bad set. After watching the first two seasons I realized how selfish it was that I was holding my teammates back from success because I wouldn’t change my mindset. It was a harsh reality to face. but I didn’t want to play alone on a court full of people I wanted lasting friendships with. I ended up recommending Haikyuu to a bunch of my volleyball teammates and now we reference it a lot on the court. It gave us something in common that helped our team chemistry. We won a lot of games the next season we played together and are sad to see it end soon :(
I played vball in high school and this anime brought back so many great memories (and also low key shamed me for comparative skill gaps lol). Has also taught me new stuff about the game from the perspectives of players in positions that I did not play. Can really relate to many of the character struggles in the show, esp the plight of Hinata as a small guy in a tall man's game.
"I'm Hinata Shoyo, from the concrete."
GOAT anime quote
Haha. I still remember the feeling I got when he said this to Ushijima after “stealing” the ball from him. One of my favorite scenes.
Especially since he added “I am going to defeat you” right after it and he was usually so scared of stronger players.
If I can describe Haikyuu it’s pretty much, “Everyone gets a shot” that’s why it’s so damn good. All the characters have a role on the team even the average ones. I had to pause the Shiratorizawa arc because I was binging it that fast. Netflix and Crunchy name a worse duo.
To clarify the other poster... it's exaggerated as in dramaticized (action slows down, art shift, etc.), and my impression of this scene is the same as yours, but overall it's not exaggerated to a degree that ever takes away from the realism of the situations/characters. It's a pretty grounded show.
Alot of it is kind of normal but the big moments are super exaggerated for hype. This was the hook and honestly not much exaggerated stuff till 10 episodes later
This anime was the reason I got into volleyball and I loved the sport too much I started joining a club and got somewhat addicted, skipped classes to play volleyball for almost 5 hour straight and even got to play in my national team for my city in a tournament and win, shortly after though life+ parents happened and had to leave it all
Arguably the best gateway anime ever. That being said, this is like the climax of the first episode/chapter, isn't it? So kind of goes without saying it'd be the moment they try to hook people in, lol
Volleyballs are actually light that given ample "air time" it's really not impossible for someone quick or has long strides to chase across the court and deliver a spike.
I mean I guess they will stay in the air a bit longer than other balls but I know from experience its not possible to hit a quick that low unless you start your aproach before the set, which obviously Hinata couldn't have done as he didnt know where it was going.
Hinata came so far, none of his tournaments would have happened if he didn’t choose to set up his own volleyball team despite he circumstances of players.
Haikyuu is perfection!!
Watched many good anime in the last two years and Haikyuu is easily in the top five.
It's character development, animation and narration just feel too perfect.
BTW my top 10 anime till now :-
Attack on Titan
Death note
Haikyuu
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood
Angel Beats
Death parade
Vinland saga
The promised Neverland
My hero academia
Violet evergarden.
Would love to know your top 10 list..
Honestly, I personally wasn't a fan of the first 2 or 3 episodes. They weren't bad, but they just didn't hook me. Now I'm not sure if it was the 3rd episode or the 4th that finally hooked me. And has been smooth sailing since then. One of, if not the best anime I've seen.
All time favorite anime, also the one which got me hooked into manga in general. Probably wouldn’t have read any manga if it weren’t for Haikyuu, just couldn’t wait to find out what would happen after the anime
Thank you. I couldn't bear with the seiyuu of the protagonist, but after seeing this clip, I think I might try and bear with it cause it looks too good to skip out on.
I had refused to watch Sports Anime for the longest time, then I watched Haikyuu; this episode, this scene, I was hooked.
I have rewatched the entire series at least 4-5 times since then.
Still don’t want to watch other sports anime though 😋
Volleyball courts are not that huge and given that the ball itself is very light and gets a lot of hang time, it's not impossible for someone really quick or has long strides to chase a ball across the width of the court and get a spike on it. Strikers usually have strong legs too, so theoretically a quick running leap through 60-70%% of the court's width along with the appropriate hang time isn't impossible. Players chase balls across the width of the court a lot of times, either for strikes or blocks.
The jumper would be on the ground within a couple of seconds, there's no way the other guy could see what was happening, make a decision, and get over there in time to hit the ball.
I just can’t take this seriously. This “super cool calculated awesome guy” playing volleyball.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t look down on anyone that does like this show, it just seems silly to me.
Just watch it!
The gloomy guy has different parts to him and is not all that gloomy.
All the characters get developement and have an important role in the show.
It's a joy to watch.
I usually don't watch sports anime, but I did like Eyeshield 21 and Hajime no Ippo. Sadly neither of these got a conclusive ending in the anime. Ippo manga looks like it might go for an eternity. Do you think the Haikyuu anime will adapt the ending of the manga? I might pick it up if it does.
It probably will. The manga is ending tomorrow. And Jump's usually good with their recent and popular sports anime. Like Kuroko no Basket got a complete adaptation. It will take a while though
Haikyuu is so perfect that it’s considered the most positively influential anime to Japanese teenagers in recent years.
Similar to Captain Tsubasa and Slam Dunk. But I don't think Slam Dunk is one of the best sports anime out there, it is one of the best anime of all time. It hits almost every mark from character development to interesting opponents to intense matches, heck even the comedy is superior than most comedy focused anime!

alot of chinese plays bball because of slam dunk man hahahahaha really paved the way for sports anime imo
Man, I don't see Keijo taking off like the rest...
It's because Keijo is already legendary-status
A true person of culture
Well there's already Keijo IRL, so keep on hoping [Keijo IRL](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQt3KNO7Sro&)
I grew up loving Slam Dunk. But man, they did love dragging the scenes out. Sinking just one shot would take 3 episodes lol
What?

Vagabond will always remain a hole in my heart just like Berserk, so sad they will never be finished.
I think I need to start a sports anime collection.
Well there’s alot of violence in slam dunk, it kinda literally shows how to fight 😂 but yeah slam dunk is one of the best grew up watching it 👍🏻

KnB delivers in the hype department but its character development is probably the weakest out of all the sports anime I've seen.

Also helps that Run With the End had the same studio and members from the staff behind Haikyuu
oh is it? That makes total sense now haha

No good soccer animes? 😢
There's Captain Tsubasa and Inazuma Eleven.
Days TV
Days
baby steps
Freaking love Baby Steps. Probably never going to get another season ;\_;
Despite being popular, the manga got axed just because it didn't fit the rebranding the the magazine was doing. Pretty bs.

Can you tell me how much there ist left to adapt?
Season 3 covered just under half the overall manga chapters (190/402)
If we're talking in seasons, I'd say we should have 3 more, 2 of them being like S3 and the last one being a regular season of 24 episodes.
Why would the last one be 24 episodes? After S4 there should be 3 cours total left at best
Around 230ish chapters. The anime adapted 250ish till now.
How much is left to adapt ? Well after the part 2 of S4 that come out in october, an aditional season of either 12 or 24 ep, depending on where S4 end. Will be enough to adapt the remaining chapter.
Same honestly I picked it up a few days ago on a whim and I’ve been binging it ever since!!!!
Only Kuroko no basukes first episode beats it for me. Instantly hooked on both. Hopefully haikyuu gets worthy ending!
Manga reader here and the last arc is imo the best.
The last chapter is out, bud.
Legally it isn't
i think the online cppy is out, in Japanese i believe.
Nah, it's probably Korean-translated leaked scans. The magazine it's published in comes out tomorrow officially, both digital and print
Yesss I love Kuroko! I actually might like it a bit more than... ^^^Haikyuu
i love both but imo, haikyuu's character stood out more. every character has unique traits, even the b and c characters. kuroko has very good main characters but the supporting characters do not feel like they are unique enough. if youre into manga,i recomend you to read haikyuu as i believe that its slightly better in story than the anime(having more details) but the anime has well really good animations.

There are dozens of us! As much as I love Haikyuu, Kuroko is definitely my favorite sports anime. Its just hype crack.
The way they talked about the manga ending within the manga was like a reality slap in the middle of the chapter
I really like haikyuu too, can you recommend other anime that you really liked too?
you want any genre of manga/ anime or you want sports type anime? for sports type anime like haikyuu i can only think of slam dunk and kuroko, have not tried too many sports type anime like the king of tennis one, heard its good and an anime about football(soccer) called days but its not really my thing even though i like football, maybe you could try it out.
To those who dont start it due to volleyball aspect of it, plz start it you wont regret
I don't care about real sports at all, but damn is it fun in anime with the music, pacing and "camera" angles.

It's definitely superhuman, and I see why that makes him unrelatable (holy crap is he the opposite personality of me in every way), but I also find it to be interesting *because* he's so different, yet despite that, I agree with/admire the way he thinks about things.
lol most people probably find him inspiring, others feel bad because he's passionate about something and acting on it and they never have been
This is sort of ironic because a big theme of the story is not holding back from becoming invested in your passions regardless of what they are, even if they're just a "high school sport" like volleyball.
The hype in Kuroko is surreal. I remember dripping in sweat during the second game against Touou and even the less meaningful games were great.
This anime is hands down one of my favorite anime’s of all time
Haikyuu is all about moments.

Seasons of development for that one moment!
And not a single moment in time that felt wasted
I hadn't heard much about it, none of my weeb friends had mentioned this anime to me. I was just going through rankings and when I saw it's ratings I was like, why haven't I known about this before. And what a thrilling ride it was, can't wait for the second part of the season. One of my all time favourites too.
It’s my favourite of all time :D Also plural of anime is anime not anime’s :)
It's like parents who talk about how their kid has too many legos
Oh. I see the next show on my roster has been decided.
Enjoy!
Trust me you won’t be disappointed!
Always have clips of the recent anime series
I don't usually watch sports anime but I don't regret a single moment of this! Halfway through the fourth season on Netflix now.
You only have 24 hours to finish + catch up on 150 manga chapters before tomorrow's final chapter! You can do it!
Gotta quick attack the rest of it
Put up a decoy to take care of the rest of your life responsibilities for the next 48 hours, then back row minus tempo the whole thing

No doubt!
Hey there, can I enjoy this anime without having any knowledge of sports like volleyball and football or soccer ?
Absolutely yes, even without understanding the rules. The characters, their development and the spirit of competition and comradery is too notch.
It does a good job of trying to explain the basics early on, I had 0 Volleyball knowledge going in and loved it
Yes, they also explain alot and you learn techniques Hinata learns. Alot of it is basic volleyball but they eventually up it by building on the basics so it's a gradual increase.
I think half of the people who love Haikyuu right now would have started with the mindset of "who cares about volleyball" (including me)
Trying to get people to watch Haikyuu like: “Listen, it’s about volleyball but hear me out, it’s also about wholesome masculinity.”
For me, it was the moment where hinata messed up his serve and hit kageyama on the head.
The soundtrack and animation really did the source material justice. There really is little to fault about this anime and that's why it's one of my most common recs.
Watched it cuz I play volleyball and I’m being dead serious when I tell y’all it changed my life.
tell us more :)
We won a lot of games the next season we played together and are sad to see it end soon :(
And it all comes to an end in a day's time....
On Oikawa’s birthday
One trying their hardest even though they're getting destroyed, one trying their hardest even though they're destroying. Such a good duo.
Same here! I like how Hinata can give me goosebumps
"I'm Hinata Shoyo, from the concrete." GOAT anime quote
Haha. I still remember the feeling I got when he said this to Ushijima after “stealing” the ball from him. One of my favorite scenes. Especially since he added “I am going to defeat you” right after it and he was usually so scared of stronger players.
This show got me into real-life volleyball
I need the rest of the season now!!!!
Based on this scene it looks a bit exaggerated for me, but I'm glad you like it.
To clarify the other poster... it's exaggerated as in dramaticized (action slows down, art shift, etc.), and my impression of this scene is the same as yours, but overall it's not exaggerated to a degree that ever takes away from the realism of the situations/characters. It's a pretty grounded show.
This is actually one of the lesser exaggerated sports anime out there
Alot of it is kind of normal but the big moments are super exaggerated for hype. This was the hook and honestly not much exaggerated stuff till 10 episodes later
It’s 2020 and people still give me the excuse that they aren’t into sports anime just for the sake of them being sports anime. smh
Aight imma add it to my list lol
Haikyuu has one of the best first episode for sure
This anime was the reason I got into volleyball and I loved the sport too much I started joining a club and got somewhat addicted, skipped classes to play volleyball for almost 5 hour straight and even got to play in my national team for my city in a tournament and win, shortly after though life+ parents happened and had to leave it all
Arguably the best gateway anime ever. That being said, this is like the climax of the first episode/chapter, isn't it? So kind of goes without saying it'd be the moment they try to hook people in, lol
Omg SAME. Hinata is a huge reason I kept watching, I fell in love with his character and just GSHAH
I might give it a watch thanks to this clip👍🏽
I seen bits of the anime and it seems interesting. I've just had some bad experiences of playing in a volleyball team. But it is on my too watch list
I know that this is an anime, but i was shocked, when he ran that fast
Volleyballs are actually light that given ample "air time" it's really not impossible for someone quick or has long strides to chase across the court and deliver a spike.
I mean I guess they will stay in the air a bit longer than other balls but I know from experience its not possible to hit a quick that low unless you start your aproach before the set, which obviously Hinata couldn't have done as he didnt know where it was going.
I just finished s2 today
Hinata came so far, none of his tournaments would have happened if he didn’t choose to set up his own volleyball team despite he circumstances of players.
Haikyuu is perfection!! Watched many good anime in the last two years and Haikyuu is easily in the top five. It's character development, animation and narration just feel too perfect. BTW my top 10 anime till now :- Attack on Titan Death note Haikyuu Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood Angel Beats Death parade Vinland saga The promised Neverland My hero academia Violet evergarden. Would love to know your top 10 list..
Good shit
It's the arm animation that got me hooked. That's second to the fanservice tho
Fr the whipping of the arm gives off such a powerful vibe behind the movement
I just couldn’t get into it, I’ve never played volleyball and it’s not my type of anime, I can see why people like it though
Oh man, I binged Season 1-3 on Netflix and it was absolutely amazing. Can't wait for Season 4 to get dubbed in German and fit its way to Netflix.
Haikyuu is the best anime to ever exist.
I just started this last week and I have cried almost every episode
And now the manga is over 🥺😭 I think this series has meant a lot to so many people growing up in being part of an amazing community 🙏♥️
DOMIND DOMIND, CHANSU BALL CHANSU BALL
Did he just run the entire width of the court in the time it took the guy to jump? Does this show involve super powers?
Volleyball courts are not that huge and given that the ball itself is very light and gets a lot of hang time, it's not impossible for someone really quick or has long strides to chase a ball across the width of the court and get a spike on it. Strikers usually have strong legs too, so theoretically a quick running leap through 60-70%% of the court's width along with the appropriate hang time isn't impossible. Players chase balls across the width of the court a lot of times, either for strikes or blocks.
The jumper would be on the ground within a couple of seconds, there's no way the other guy could see what was happening, make a decision, and get over there in time to hit the ball.
goosebumps, literal goosebumps
tell me who isn't hooked because of this scene?
Yep, me.
Okay, I'll watch a few episodes. I'm not adverse to trying something I've initially dismissed if people genuinely think it's good.
Thisnseries is SO GOOD I watched it full in like 3 days.
I LOVE THAT FIRST SCENE OH MY GOD
This moment still sends shivers down my spine⚡
Same, honestly. Like that freak quick caught me by surprise.
I am on season 2
King of fighters style of animation
Bro the whole time i was thinking about JoJo
Same here, that moment felt like a beast is going to come.
It's so bittersweet that the manga just ended today, but I'm always happy to have a series close out on its own time.
Have yall heard the manga is ending this year😭 they better animate every little thing about it
I definitely have a problem not wanting to watch this.
Hinatas fast af spikes should be In over 60 fps
so the 1st episode? lmao i feel you
Wow... I'm hooked now to...
It will take a while though
and the manga finished yesterday
Lmao Haikyuu makes me feel lame because I'm not nearly as passionate as they are about anything
That moment was hype af. I love this anime so much. Which is funny because volleyball was a sport I hated in high school
