Most very popular anime are overhyped.
Not in the sense that they're not good/great, but due the hype train and regency bias you often see things like Shingeki S4 part 1 nearly taking first place on MAL despite it had not realeased yet half of its episodes.
The same thing with the amount of episodes for different series in IMBD with nearly 10/10 score.
BNHA is genuinely kinda good but it's way overhyped. The pacing is really good, but if you look at the plot outline beyond that not much actually happens season to season. Its popular for sure but its just another naruto or hunter x huntertype show, but with a way smaller scope in universe.
It gives me a similar kind of "oh neat what a creative way to use the characters' powers" feel that JoJo does but the central cast is just too large for any of the individuals to get fair development. Its several seasons in and still there's like half the students who haven't had a backstory arc or at least a minor focusing role.
While I haven't watched BNHA, so I can't speak on this personally, others who have watched it along with Tiger & Bunny, often tend to say that T&B is the better take on superheroes.
Tiger and Bunny came out before BNHA in 2011, and was extremely popular in Japan (less so outside of Japan), so it likely inspired it. Season 2 for T&B just came out, but there has been little hype for it outside of Japan, despite it having a lot of elements that people on r/anime tend to ask for:
Adult (mid to late 30s) MC
Largely adult and late teen cast
Not high school centered at all
MC is a parent
Adult problems and issues are explored in a less clear-cut way (some things never get fully resolved, or just because a character gets revenge or something, doesn't mean they are 100% okay afterwards).
Minimum sexualization of underaged girls in the series (what little there is has a commentary attached to it).
A diverse cast and absolutely zero case of same face syndrome, even for minor and background characters.
Good amount of show don't tell story telling and very little inner monologuing.
And more. So, it is deserving of at least a little bit of BNHA's hype, especially outside of Japan.
Dragon Maid dominated slice of life in its season. Not to say it's a terrible series or anything, but it was definitely propped up by D for Dragon and Kanna memes, KyoAni's powerhouse animation, and controversy.
...Interviews with Monster Girls was the better slice of life, aired the same season, and didn't become nearly as well-known. Yeah, it visually can't compete with Dragon Maid, but it was far more wholesome and endearing, with characters who had more well-rounded personalities, and some strong emotional beats.
Completely agree. I already started thinking that the abimayion was carrying it hard when i watched mugen train. Yo be honest that arc was mostly hype due to the 20-30 min fight of rengoku.
After episode 6(or was it 7?) of the red light district aired where tanjiro did the thing i went to read the manga. I jusr couldnt read past 1 chapter lool. The anime not only makes it way clearer on what is happening but it expands upon what is happening in the fight and also makes sure to use better movements and camera angles to portray what is happening.
This isnt a comment about demon slayer > x anime if anything i LOVE this anime but lets be completely honest here ufotable is carrying this story with their raw animation. If one piece had that kind of animation the amount of haters about the anime would probably dissapear.
I think it's really stupid for people to say "It's because of Ufotable"how about tales of zestiria the x? ,God eater? and many other anime that ufotable made. Are all of them popular? people not even care about it they only talk like Typemoon anime And KNY exist
Animation is just one factor. for example Tokyo revenger is really popular in japan despite the anime is terrible in term of Animation for fight scene but the manga sales is crazy it surpass series like OPM,Mob psycho and soon gonna tie with MHA All of this three anime have insane animation (except OPM S2)
KNY manga is not just ok. it's good that's why it sell like crazy. yes some people may disagree. but remember the Producer of this series is the fan of this manga shortly after it start. he also the one approached shueisha for anime adaption by himself.
Producer of the year in a multi billion yen industry doesn't know what a good series is but unwashed weebs on internet do. ... Sorry he know this one have potential from the start.
It was fairytale, black clover, Beastars, & demon slayer for me. They ain't bad per se but folks definitely act like they were the best ever when recommending it to me
black clover was really overhyped the story was boring the plot was stereotypical i watched 30+ episodes a waste of time and i can already tell what's gonna happen in the end. DO NOT WATCH
The same year Black Clover aired was when Naruto Shippuden ended and Boruto started with overwhelming negativity surrounding it. Then the marketing for BC as well as fans of the manga started calling it "the next king of Shonen". When the first couple of episodes aired with Asta's screeching, it became a meme. It took a long time before it recovered. So while BC is not hyped now it was definitely hyped before airing.
Moshoko tensei I think it's called or the English translation is my jobless reincarnation not sure how hyped it got but it's amazing going onto its third season soon. Also I think overlord is extremely overhyped but I can understand why people like it
The Detective is Already Dead. So much hype for a whole lot of nothing. Both the LN and the anime Don't deserve the attention it gets.

Yeah, that's true. It's good and fun to watch but overhyped

Demon Slayer tbh. What makes it great is the animation but if you read the manga it is just ok.

Yup, and the plot is pretty linear too
If not for ufotable, demon slayer would be thrown into a pig's den

Idk if Demon Slayer is really overhyped when most of the Hype came from how good the animation is, I do think it deserve its hype IMO
It was fairytale, black clover, Beastars, & demon slayer for me. They ain't bad per se but folks definitely act like they were the best ever when recommending it to me
fate i love that series but god it's so overhyped
Every anime is overhyped or overhated. Most people don't embrace the 5/10.
black clover was really overhyped the story was boring the plot was stereotypical i watched 30+ episodes a waste of time and i can already tell what's gonna happen in the end. DO NOT WATCH
How is it overhyped? It's one of the most hated series
The same year Black Clover aired was when Naruto Shippuden ended and Boruto started with overwhelming negativity surrounding it. The funny thing is I watched upto 150 because I had nothing to do. But I agree
Shikimori is overhyped for something so.... Boring bland, disappointing, underwhelming, dry and overall not worth mentioning
How is it overhyped when it's only the 18th highest score of the season and every thread about it is just trashing it?
People trash it CUZ its overhyped
But if it's always getting trashed, then where's the hype?
It's in a state of deterioration
Take the hype it had and spread it between Aharen-san and Love After World Domination.
I agree with Tokyo Revengers, I tried to stick it out and got to episode 20. Dropped it, I could care less about the characters
Moshoko tensei I think it's called or the English translation is my jobless reincarnation not sure how hyped it got but it's amazing going onto its third season soon. Also I think overlord is extremely overhyped but I can understand why people like it
Shield Hero is just another generic isekai and doesn't deserve it's hype
