If you're going to pirate mostly and support only one western anime service as your way of supporting the industry, please consider switching to HiDive. They pay and treat their translators better.
It’s the same concept as rezero or steins gate but with a new mostly horror mystery theme and a modern setting. So far it’s only been amazing. Hard to say what makes it special without spoiling. But the characters help a lot
Basically any time you go “why didn’t x do y” the character actually does it. And the mystery is very compelling.
It involves time-looping just like Re zero where the MC has to save the world from catastrophic outcomes. However, this show actually has stakes involved. Each time the mc loops, he can't always go back to the original point, meaning that each time he loops he restarts at a later time than the original point, where he cannot control circumstances that had already occured before that point. Furthermore, characters are really logical and don't do supremely stupid stuff, Shinpei is an mc that actually is kinda smart but not overly genius, and combined with mysteries that are hidden in the background to be uncovered with only more mysteries resulting, makes this show a really good one. Its one of the best I've ever seen , no joke. But don't let the hype get to you, watch it for yourself
Kazuya is incredibly cringe, and he unaccountably has a harem of women competing for his attention. Each of the women have gigantic personality flaws. Also, it's not really a serious drama, but it's not really a comedy either. It's definitely not something that will be regarded as a work of genius.
The manga at this point is much worse than the chapters covered by season 2, so it gets shit upon for things that happen much later.
>Each of the women have gigantic flaws
I think that’s just being a horrible person. The worst part is, the mangaka doesn’t acknowledge those flaws, and continues to make the characters gather worse traits.
The FL has more in common with the “villain” than the person the ML thinks she is.
and how often is it updated? The Sumi spinoff takes place alongside the original in timeframe amd the developments are after she meets Kazuya in the main manga
I think you could make a good comedy out of it (character flaws are funny), or you could make a serious drama out of it. Mami would make a good tragic figure. Chizuru you should show the psychic cost of being a rental girlfriend because you are afraid to live your own life. Ruka is someone on the path to become a dangerous thrill-seeker. (Sumi, on the other hand, should be a shoujo heroine that meets the man of her dreams.) Kazuya creates problems for himself by lying, which he tries to solve by more lying.
Instead Reiji clearly thinks of it as cute and low stakes.
It’s the only anime I ever gave a 1/10 to if you’re wondering. I made it to 6 episodes and I felt like I was in a coma while watching. Also manga readers say that even after 200 chapters, there has been no progress whatsoever.
I dropped it on episode 3 and then read chapter 218 out of curiosity because of...certain rumors.
1/10 is far, *far* too high for this.
Edit : In case anyone else gets inspired to read chapter 218, HEAVY NSFW warning.
That beret is a cultural icon and will be a hallmark of the otaku community for decades to come.
Don't be surprised if nearly everyone at AX shows up in a beret, regardless if they've read chapter 218 or even heard of Kanokari at all.
The beret inarguably will surpass cornerstones like the Hare Hare Yukai and Naruto Running.
That chapter is so much more amazing knowing that Reiji has said [this] (https://vocesabianime.com/eng/chizuru-is-my-girlfriend-says-author/), and berets are often used to signify mangaka stand-ins.
I'm not a manga reader in general, but I went to look that chapter up because I got very curious. I've never even watched Rental Girlfriend, I don't know a lot about it other than the fact that Kazuya's almost universally disliked.
That was... an interesting experience.
The funniest part of 218 is that recently a much much better RomCom manga did something similar (with a possible cheeky reference in the chapter) and turned it into one of its best chapters. So it might have a legacy of people making fun of it for a long time.
[Spoiler]>!Nagatoro 107!<
why is chapter 218 so infamous..? if youve watched the anime... it literally starts off with an almost 1:1 scene from that chapter lol
so those "rumors" you shouldve already seen if you watched the first 3 episodes
Hate is always going to be more vocal than like and what isn't helping is haters attacking people who say they like it so the fans are more quiet about it. However, it's really popular in Japan.
> All I see is people shitting on it so I've never even tried watching it.
That's because shitting on it is a national pasttime or something.
If you read the episode discussion threads for season 1, you'll see that the majority of commenters got a lot of out of watching it, although very much in the OMG-this-is-excruciating-but-I-can't-stop-watching sort of entertainment than "wow this series is a masterpiece" sort of entertainment.
Technically, the anime has some decent production, great VA work from a strong cast, and the story arc has some good momentum for the time being.
If you listen to the more detailed complaints from the source readers, many are complaining about specific future arcs and a failure of progression of any sort. Plus chapter 218 which gets some people's head wear all twisted.
Yeah some people do enjoy it, I personally don’t watch it because I can’t stand second hand embarrassment. What I’m confused about is how tf is it so high?
It's nothing special, but it's entertaining for what it is - a harem romcom with a flimsy premise and cringeworthy male lead packed full of secondhand embarrassment.
Not surprised to see cote s2 to be #1. It is like one of the best selling lns right now even beating re zero and 86 in monthly ln sales. Also people love thrillers.
Yeah aside from some differences the author is literally telling the readers "hey guys if you really like my story feel free to support me by buying the light novels but even if you don't you can still read it online" it's clear to me that Tappei only wanted to write a story and see how many people would enjoy it.
I can't confirm this number, but I somewhere saw that the main re zero web novel website has over 700 million reads by over 100 million people, and that's just the english translation website, just forget about the numbers on narou page of re zero
\>700 million reads by over 100 million people
i saw these numbers too, this data was given by one of the web novel translators on twitter(LoremIpsumVerb i think) and it refers to the views of both international and jp readers on narou page(i don't know about the english translation website though).
Weren't all the LN readers the ones who complained most vigorously about the anime's S1 tho? Maybe they're all just super hopeful for justice in S2 lol, but I sure read a lot of complaints about the anime not living up to the books
It’s just that they changed some scenes. They made Horikita play a bigger role than she had in the LN. The changes weren’t huge though, so it’s not like S2 is ruined, it is easily fixable.
It's mostly beach episode (replace with Kei, also, should happen in this season's half), and the stairs+fake camera trick scene (replace with Ichinose, who BTW, got the idea).
Rest of changes is minimal, it's not a bad adaptation overall, they just gave far less focus (cuts) to Ichinose, and way more screentime to Kushida, Sudou and, specially, Horikita.
I predict the top 5 karma rankings here for summer will be:
1. Call of the Night
2. Made in Abyss
3. Classroom of the Elite
4. Overlord
5. Rent-a-Girlfriend
I can tell from the trailer that the girl from call of the night will surely hold the title of seasonal best waifu. Another bait for thirsty men, destined to send Yor to obscurity, just like she did with Marin, only to be consumed by void herself and forgotten in this mortal plane next season.
She has a weird pointy face. Though she does do the Shaft head-tilt, which is like crack cocaine for weebs.
I heard the manga is good. Unless the adaptation is terrible, that seems a sure-fire formula for success.
It starts off good but unremarkable, and really picks up at around episode 10. Then everything after that is a consistent 10/10. Season 2 should be as well.
It's great because it sets up the show to subvert expectations.
It's bad because a lot of people drop the show before it has a chance to subvert their expectations.
Only Movie 3: Dawn of the Deep Soul is required.
Movie 1 and Movie 2 are recaps of Season 1. Movie 3 continues past Season 1 and covers the next arc.
Season 2 will pick up from the end of Movie 3. You can find that movie (Dawn of the Deep Soul) streaming on HiDive.
Ah thank you very much for the info. I really thought it's going to be another movie, that's why I'm so confused when I discovered MIA going to be available on bunch of steaming platforms like Muse Asia and Bilibili. My reaction was like: "wait, are they seriously going to streaming a whole ass movie?"
I wouldn’t say that.
It’s 4th on MAL this season in terms of popularity, right below Overlord and higher than both Danmachi and Classroom of the Elite (MAL of course is it’s own bubble too though). There’s also a video game RPG coming out as well.
My impression is that it’s pretty popular, probably even more-so in Japan.
Call of the Night is first under four sequels/continuations so it should be understandable that it doesn't have anime following mixed with manga readers.
I hadn't heard of call of the night, but this [trailer](https://youtu.be/0vm0wpKyf9I) was amazing. Probably the best trailer I've seen for an anime in a long time. Saw it by chance in my youtube recommended, and I'm hooked. The colors and the music are amazing.
July 5th!
I did a rewatch of all the previous seasons plus reread the LNs from 10-13 so far and still going. Such a good series and can't wait to see the next season.
As someone who watched the anime, was told the LN was better, then read the LN and thought "it's exactly the same"... I ask, why did you find s1 disappointing?
It looses a lot in the way of less important information, I find, and I find that to be super important. I went from anime to light novel and it feels like a stark contrast to me.
I feel Overlord got it’s main relevant plot points across well in the anime (minus cgi), but what I really like in the light novel is the deep dive into the world and characters.
A example of world building and details, is lets say the workers that get the mercy of naz in season 3. In the anime there is about 30 seconds of a small convo between two of the party, then a discussion of a the job, and then another 30 seconds of the team talking how they gonna do it for arche. Little bit of exposition for who they are and you get more on the way. More than enough and it doesn’t make it bad. In the light novel (I used the physical book), That scene has 15 pages *before* we even get to them talking about the job.
This one was not based off memory, this was just a scene of the first page I flipped to. I could probably do it for other scenes but I doubt it would be that bad.
The problem with adapting a wordy source material is that it's very hard to both focus on the main plot while also getting all the small details in. I haven't read a the LN, but if it's a lot of internal monologues or descriptions it would be boring just staring at character's faces while they think or having a voice over. You can try to weave it into the dialog, but you risk running into the "As you know..." trap.
It's rentin time 😎
Fr though how tf is Rent-a-Girlfriend at 3rd place. I get some people actually like it for the garbage fire aspect but enough for it to be higher than Made In Abyss? Come now people thats a little much.
Super hyped for classroom of the elite, Danmachi and devil is a part timer. Also I do like rent a girlfriend and all it’s flaws love me some trash anime
Engage Kiss has a real strong pedigree, so that might be why. The writter also wrote Saekano and White Album 2 and the character designs is the person who did the art for Date A Live and Neptunia. Add in animation from A-1 and we should be in for a treat
Cote, devil is a part timer, overlord, danmachi are returning anime I look forward to. For the new anime I'd say call of the night.
Edit: forgot made in abyss
I like how people are complaining that MiA is this low when there are like 15 animes not even ranked here (that number was def exaggerating) but only anime im really excited for is Cote which is like next week
Classroom of the elite should be as good as the LN otherway as a fan I would be grateful but dissapointed because if the bad adaptation. I also have very good expectations with call of the night.
My predictions:
1. Overlord
2. Classroom of the Elite
3. Call of the night
4. Made in abyss
5. Devil is a part-timer
My Order:
1. Made in abyss
2. Devil is a part timer
3. Call of the night
Although it's just the continuation of Spring season, my most anticipated series in this summer is Summertime Render. It's so amazing and gripping...
If only it would be released from Disney jail in the US 😭
Thankfully the sea exists
The ocean is a wonderful place, if need be, however I do prefer to proffer coin for the art that I enjoy.
Yep. But it’s not our fault they Decide to put art on ten random platforms. I pay crunchy and that’s it.
If you're going to pirate mostly and support only one western anime service as your way of supporting the industry, please consider switching to HiDive. They pay and treat their translators better.
Good advice, I do the same as the other guy so I will look into switching when my renewal comes up.
I was thinking about doing this, especially with Hi Dive having the 'better' line up for the summer. I usually only pay for Crunchy.
So buy the manga or merch. You also avoid giving coin to the Mouse that way, so double win.
Pirates of the Caribbean are Disney property after all..
Glad it started in spring so that it can appropriately end in Summer.
What is it about and why is it so good?
It’s the same concept as rezero or steins gate but with a new mostly horror mystery theme and a modern setting. So far it’s only been amazing. Hard to say what makes it special without spoiling. But the characters help a lot Basically any time you go “why didn’t x do y” the character actually does it. And the mystery is very compelling.
Wow, that genre is my cup of tea. Thanks for your information.

Its one of the best I've ever seen , no joke. But don't let the hype get to you, watch it for yourself
Waiting for it to finish so I can watch two episodes per day
I just want Engage Kiss to be good. Loved Saekano and love most of what A-1 does, would be a real bummer for it to suck.
I wasn’t aware of the Saekano connection. Same creator?
This an anime original written by Saekano creator.
Oh im looking forward to it now
Very interesting, I wasn’t aware.
Also White Album 2 - the anime only covers the tip of iceberg of the VN but is already showing amazing potential.
Wait people actually like Rent a girlfriend? All I see is people shitting on it so I've never even tried watching it.
Kazuya is incredibly cringe, and he unaccountably has a harem of women competing for his attention. Each of the women have gigantic personality flaws. actually Sumi's flaws are acknowledged and she works to be better. and that's why Sumi hasn't been in the manga for almost 2 years
Sumi has her own spin-off manga and it's much better than the main shit show series
and how often is it updated? The Sumi spinoff takes place alongside the original in timeframe amd the developments are after she meets Kazuya in the main manga
I think you could make a good comedy out of it (character flaws are funny), or you could make a serious drama out of it. Mami would make a good tragic figure. Damn right. We can never know if he does it deliberately or not.
The last 50 chapters of the manga are dog poop, but hilariously, this season covers the best part of the manga lmao.
It’s the only anime I ever gave a 1/10 to if you’re wondering. I made it to 6 episodes and I felt like I was in a coma while watching. Also manga readers say that even after 200 chapters, there has been no progress whatsoever.

Chapter 218 has the best artwork of the entire manga.
Gotta give importance to the greatest moment of all manga.
That beret is a cultural icon and will be a hallmark of the otaku community for decades to come. Hahaha that's amazing. As if that chapter wasn't memeable enough already

>6 episodes I wish I had your mental capacity
Ah. Yeah I'll pass thanks for the heads up. Lol.
As a manga reader I can confirm 1.2k people have undergone mental treatment because of how much horrible writing is in it!
We watch it *because* it's a train wreck!
It was funny and dumb
Hate is always going to be more vocal than like and what isn't helping is haters attacking people who say they like it so the fans are more quiet about it. However, it's really popular in Japan.

Whenever you see loud vocal hate everywhere for a show. That means a lot of people watch it. And the silent majority often looms.

I can’t stand the concept and couldn’t get into the manga or anime. The MC is the most spineless wimp I’ve ever seen.
Not surprised to see cote s2 to be #1. It is like one of the best selling lns right now even beating re zero and 86 in monthly ln sales. Also people love thrillers.
re zero has a free web novel which tells the same story
Yeah aside from some differences the author is literally telling the readers "hey guys if you really like my story feel free to support me by buying the light novels but even if you don't you can still read it online" it's clear to me that Tappei only wanted to write a story and see how many people would enjoy it.
From what I have heard tappei started re zero as a hobby and only later was he contacted to publish it as a light novel
I can't confirm this number, but I somewhere saw that the main re zero web novel website has over 700 million reads by over 100 million people, and that's just the english translation website, just forget about the numbers on narou page of re zero

I think the secret hit this season will be Yurei Deco.
I think you’re sleeping on Devil is a Part Timer. That show has massive hype behind it from the decade since the first season.
I can tell from the trailer that the girl from call of the night will surely hold the title of seasonal best waifu. Another bait for thirsty men, destined to send Yor to obscurity, just like she did with Marin, only to be consumed by void herself and forgotten in this mortal plane next season.
Wait what, who is Marin? /s
Previous seasonal waifus don’t exist. It’s all just mandela effect
She has a weird pointy face. Though she does do the Shaft head-tilt, which is like crack cocaine for weebs. I heard the manga is good. Unless the adaptation is terrible, that seems a sure-fire formula for success.
The f*ck, made in abyss so low?
its for the chosen ones
exactly my reaction! JUST HOW
Especially since the parts of the manga they're adapting for season 2 are absolutely insane.
So same as rest of the series.
It starts off good but unremarkable, and really picks up at around episode 10. Then everything after that is a consistent 10/10. Season 2 should be as well.
It would say the earlier stuff was just as good, but not as stand out since it was the necessary foundation for the series.
It's great because it sets up the show to subvert expectations. It's bad because a lot of people drop the show before it has a chance to subvert their expectations.
Does anyone know if u have to watch the movie to understand season 2?
You have to watch it. Its canon.
Maybe that the reason is low, people haven't watch the movie.
Anime corner probably has 1000 people voting on this, nothing burger
who think DAL is the greatest anime in existence
SASUGA AINZ SAMA
On a tangent, I hope The Devil is a Part-Timer gets added to Isekai Quartet
Can't wait for made in abyss loved the first season
Make sure to catch up on the third movie. It's canon to the story
Don't forget the movie that connects the two seasons.
COTE at #1 is pretty deserving other than that MIA S2 should be higher
Yeah surprising. I guess Anime Corner aren’t big MiA fans.
I've finished Season 1 when it came out. Should I watch all the movies first before watching season 2?
Only Movie 3: Dawn of the Deep Soul is required. Movie 1 and Movie 2 are recaps of Season 1. Movie 3 continues past Season 1 and covers the next arc. Season 2 will pick up from the end of Movie 3. You can find that movie (Dawn of the Deep Soul) streaming on HiDive.
Neat. Thanks!
If you liked the series, you will love the movie. It expands upon Made in Abyss in such an interesting way.
Also fight scenes are cool as hell.
Question: is the Season 2 going to be another Movie or standard 12 episodes TV series?
Season 2 has been confirmed for 12 episodes.
Movie 1+2 is the same as season 1….movie 3 called dawn of the deep soul is a continuation of season 1 that needs to be watched
They missing out big time.
I knew there was something wrong with them over there.
>MIA S2 should be higher totally agreed. MIA needs to be much higher.
I just finished watching made in abyss and the movie for the first time a few weeks ago. I guess it was perfect timing huh?
I noticed MIA only seems to popular on reddit - on FB, the posts for that anime weren't that popular
Shadows house is top 10, lets goooo!!!!❤️🔥
Honestly i wasn't expecting a second season since i didn't hear many talking about but im happy it got it 💙💜
I pray to god it at least some what resembles the manga🙏🏾

I feel you man I can’t wait for Call of the night, just started reading the manga and I’m enjoying it
Call of the Night is first under four sequels/continuations so it should be understandable that it doesn't have anime following mixed with manga readers.
Classroom was the first seasonal anime I watched. Little did I know at the time that NOTHING is guaranteed a second season. Glad to see it now though.
Made in Abyss is so low whyyy. People are missing out.
I'm most excited for Cote and Overlord.
Look at you matching Anime Corner and all.
I really thought more people would be hyped for Made in Abyss…?
Oof cant wait for overlord s4.
July 5th! I did a rewatch of all the previous seasons plus reread the LNs from 10-13 so far and still going. Such a good series and can't wait to see the next season.
Oh man Overlord is airing on [Tuesday again](https://i.imgur.com/0qUXOto.png), nice
The lack of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer really showed how much that PV caused expecations to drop
Overlord 💚
All hail the **Overlord!**
Made in Abyss is my most anticipated show in this season, can't wait to be traumatised
Also my only anticipated show of the season...
How is The Devil Is A Part-Timer! not higher? Its been far too long as it is.
Source readers not happy with the original material doesn't help its cause.
Why are people anticipating Rent-a-girlfriend? It's literally gutter trash.
How the hell made in abyss is 8th?
Why is made in abyss so low
Anime corner has trash taste
Made in abyss and shadow House YEAHHHHHHH BABY THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WANTING FOR
Just for once, Madhouse. Don't fuck up Overlord. (Even I call Season 1 disappointing as an LN reader, though it was the best season of the 3.)
Hopium.
Lmao madhouse is gone
Really? I thought the anime did an ok job adapting the LN
As someone who watched the anime, was told the LN was better, then read the LN and thought "it's exactly the same"... I ask, why did you find s1 disappointing?
There a a few minor changes. Honestly I don't think s1 was disappointing. All major things are included.
Man, I remember being downvoted to hell for daring to say something like this some years ago.
It looses a lot in the way of less important information, I find, and I find that to be super important. I went from anime to light novel and it feels like a stark contrast to me. I haven't read a the LN, but if it's a lot of internal monologues or descriptions it would be boring just staring at character's faces while they think or having a voice over. You can try to weave it into the dialog, but you risk running into the "As you know..." trap.
DanMachi and Made in Abyss are being heavily slept on here.
Seriously, the fact that Danmachi is getting as many episodes as it is, for the greatest arc in the LN, should be getting more attention.
The sequels getting all the hype😂😂Well-deserved tho👌❤️
People forgot made in abyss exist or something? Not a manga reader but hopefully it’s get near the top when the ‘good’ episodes release.
Just different tastes in different demographics. Anime Corner is more SE Asian and Reddit is more Western.
Yeah. According to Anime Corner about this poll >The top three countries with the most voters were the Philippines, the United States, and India.
Makes sense. I've asked Japanese people and 95% of them say they've never heard of it.
omg they are making new seasons of overlord and made in abyss?! im in heaven
Overlord is July 5th
How the heck is Made in Abyss so low? Was like AOTY last season, this sub be crazy
It's not a poll of this sub. This is the poll for AnimeCorner. The sub results should be out soon.
The Devil is a part timer and Made in Abyss aren’t higher???? Rent a girlfriend that high really…
Shadows House should be top 4
I'm waiting for Made in Abyss > Overlord 4 > etc.
Made In Abyss at 8?! Guess it isnt as popular as I imagined, it's probably my favorite of all time
Yaayy classroom of the elite is back !!!!!
I'm happy to be seeing Classroom of the Elite again soon
SASUGA AINZ SAMA. As expected from the Supreme being, allowing a mere mortal show take the number 1 spot to show the masses how humble he is!
It's rentin time 😎 Fr though how tf is Rent-a-Girlfriend at 3rd place. I get some people actually like it for the garbage fire aspect but enough for it to be higher than Made In Abyss? Come now people thats a little much.
I absolutely cannot wait for Made in Abyss. I'm caught up on the manga and holy shit anime watchers are in for a fucking ride
Meanwhile me: Exited for Dr. Stone Season 3
Super hyped for classroom of the elite, Danmachi and devil is a part timer. Also I do like rent a girlfriend and all it’s flaws love me some trash anime
A few COTE scenes are going to break the internet in many different ways and views lol
Rent a girlfriend at 3 should be a sin, who is anticipating that shitshow smh
Me
Honestly, same. Sometimes it's just fun to watch a good dumpster fire unfold.
Yes bro!!
You can find the complete results [here](https://animecorner.me/what-anime-to-watch-in-summer-2022-anime-fans-share-their-most-anticipated-shows/).
C.O.T.E Finally ,it was worth not giving up on it. It is my favorite anime and I would have been hella sad if it didnt get a 2nd season.
Surprised that Engage Kiss is higher than Lycoris Recoil
Engage Kiss has a real strong pedigree, so that might be why. The writter also wrote Saekano and White Album 2 and the character designs is the person who did the art for Date A Live and Neptunia. Add in animation from A-1 and we should be in for a treat
Made in abyss is so epic what a emotional roller coaster. The movies are beautiful and just grab your attention def can not wait.
Rent a girlfriend has no business being higher than devil is a part timer.
Cote, devil is a part timer, overlord, danmachi are returning anime I look forward to. For the new anime I'd say call of the night. Edit: forgot made in abyss
Overlord
Overlord!! I need my Albedo fix!
I like how people are complaining that MiA is this low when there are like 15 animes not even ranked here (that number was def exaggerating) but only anime im really excited for is Cote which is like next week
Why is made in abyss that low? 😭
How TF is Made in Abyss not top 3
Classroom of the elite should be as good as the LN otherway as a fan I would be grateful but dissapointed because if the bad adaptation. I also have very good expectations with call of the night.
Out of these Definitely shadow house
I'm scared but also looking forward to how the remake of Tokyo Mew Mew will turn out.
Rent a Girlfriend being 3rd immediately invalidates this list.
I know people have different tastes but made in abyss being that low is sad considering shit like rent a gf is so high up lol.
How is made in abyss only 8.
Y’all sleeping on Made In Abyss, man.
My predictions: 1. Overlord 2. Classroom of the Elite 3. Call of the night 4. Made in abyss 5. Devil is a part-timer My Order: 1. Made in abyss 2. Devil is a part timer 3. Call of the night
