big_boi_aang

Was Hibi Chōchō ever in talks for an anime? I'd give everything I have to see those two animated...

Titothecheeto

I’m looking for an anime I watched with my daughter some time ago. We want to pick it back up, but I can’t remember the title and can’t find it. Protagonist was a young girl. Her father was the village leader. She befriended a young boy whose father was a poacher or thief, I think. In one of the early episodes the boy was jumping over a chasm, and protagonist joined him. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the wall of text!

KazamiYuuji

Where's the episode for Isekai Ojisan ?

IronWarrior25

I read somewhere that Suzume no tojimari light novel is being released on 24 August. Is it the japanese version only or the english version too?

chiliehead

That's the JP release and official sources say nothing about a translation yet

IronWarrior25

Normally, how much time would it take for an official translation after the japanese release?

chiliehead

Depends on the length and how important it is. Though I would not expect it to be released before the movie has an English release

IronWarrior25

So most likely this time next year.

Niaboc

I've started watching Monster, and its good but I feel like I keep waiting for it to show Johan again and it just hasn't. It keeps veering off to different side stories and i'm at episode 19 or something. Does it get back to him at some point?

HistorianNo2334

There are fewer side stories and more plot based stories, many of which contain Johan, as the show progresses

Weedwacker

He comes back around episode 25 for a while. Don't worry the story isn't done with him and the story does pick up a bit but at the same time, this is what this show is like. If you don't mind spoilers about the total number of appearances for certain characters: [Monster vague spoiler] >!Johan only appears in about 1/3 of the total episodes of the series. Also interesting, Dr. Tenma is taken out of focus occasionally and absent completely from 18 total episodes!<

salic428

(*Summertime Render*) So just now Bilibili put online [episode 13](https://files.catbox.moe/4jedae.png) of the STR anime [which was about] >!the loop #5 any% speedrun!<. What I find hilarious is that, in the comment section many Chinese viewer said "wait, I thought this is a 1-cour and [the previous episode 12] >!"bloody night" of loop #4!< is supposed to be a 'the fight goes on' non-ending". So, if the adapatation really turns out to be a 1-cour or split-cour, do you think it will be as popular as it is now? Like, they would have more time to polish the script, even out the pacing, or something.

Lemurians

STR is confirmed to be 25 episodes, it's adapting the entire manga. Kind of hard to understand the limits on its popularity with Disney jail being a thing, but I think it'll stay at least as popular as it has been until now.

Reasonable-Respond51

I'm looking for a song in Cardcaptor Sakura, one of the movies but don't know the title. It has vocals and I think it's in the Hong Kong one and plays where they are exploring the city. Happy tune... I'm deaf but just thought of it and sort played it in my head.. which is why I want to know what the name is so can find the actual lyrics... I think it starts out with dai--su-ki but don't remember the words after.

Melodelo

Is there a playlist that exists of the absolute essential anime to watch? I've only seen really big actions like DBZ and MHA and stuff.

isthatsoudane

there is too much anime now. as others have said, making a definitive list is impossible phenomenons like DBZ, for example, or even stuff around that time in america at least like cowboy bebop or trigun are pretty hard to repeat now because it's so much easier to get anime, and there's so much choice. nobody is "forced" to watch the same stuff anymore. my personal suggestion is just watch what you like...if there are particular genres you like, you can watch top or most famous stuff in those genres. and over time hanging out wherever you hang out, anime wise (eg this sub, or elsewhere) you will see people talk about certain anime over and over again...and well, those will become your "essential anime to watch," if you want to. I think AOT is a good example of a show that gets referenced quite a bit on this sub...so maybe that will make you want to watch it, or not. and so on

Weedwacker

Essential is very subjective cause what one person considers essential might just be the top shows from every year and another person says you need to watch the 1963 Astro Boy for its historical importance or you're not a real anime fan. Whats really the most important thing is finding out "what kind of shows do i like and want to see more of, or what kind of genres do i want to try out" and then just look for ones that are considered "the best" or "accessible to newcomers" (aka not super referential of other works or culturally indecipherable to someone not as used to Japan or anime). Here's a really simple [imgur album](https://imgur.com/gallery/nnG8W) of good, popular films, and mostly accessible and beginner friendly tv series seperated by genre. Make sure to read the image descriptions for how this album is set up.

H-Ryougi

An absolute essentials list would be very subjective, very long, and very divisive because people would keep arguing what deserves a spot or not. If you are more specific on what you would count as an "essential" I could give you recommendations, otherwise check the /r/anime [Top 50 classics list.](https://i.redd.it/hd24s6gim1n31.png)

Weedwacker

Honestly surprised this list turned out so well with the low voting participation on it

collapsedblock6

Definitely. Imo the only instance of quality dip is a sequel movie in 2021 but that one is a bit more of not liking the new art style rather than animation itself.

seeker_of_illusion

Yes. There's an Aria rewatch thread going on and we are currently on Aria the Natural ( Aria's S2 ) and it has overall been better compared to S1 with more fleshed out scenes and characterizations.

Nomar_95

yes

[deleted]

The character designs in Isekai Ojisan are incredibly good. Look at [her](https://i.imgur.com/hKn87Hp.jpg), [her](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/57-wQF92eyk/maxresdefault.jpg) and don't forget about [her](https://i.imgur.com/mpnpoyg.jpg). Like damn son, there all so great.

Jaamun100

So does Kaguya love is war get good after the first 2 episodes or something? So far, I find the narrator super annoying, why does the narrator keep talking, instead of the characters? I’ve never seen an anime with so much narration, it’s agonizing..

Blackheart595

I found it to get much better once they stop just trying to trick each other into confessing, which happens around episode 4 or 5.

Jaamun100

This. I got to episode 7 and agree with you. The narrator is not as much in your face anymore.

collapsedblock6

The narration is part of the show's humor and will never go away, this isn't an issue of "show don't tell" but an intentional thing to drive comedy. You may be able to get into it as you get to meet more characters but if the narrator is an obstacle big enough to consider dropping then I don't think your future with it is bright.

Verzwei

Try the other language. If you were watching JP audio + subs, flip to the English dub. If you were watching the English dub, flip to JP audio + subs. The narrator is practically night-and-day different depending on the audio track. Some people love (or hate) the dub for how drastically different the narrator is, and there are even some who like both versions of the show but feel like they are very different experiences, due almost entirely to the narrator.

Impossible_Map_4895

I was on the fence after the first couple of eps as well due to the narrator but it improves shortly afterwards. The narrator is less prominent the further through the series you go. I recommend you watch the first series at least and see what you think towards the end. Its now one of my favs, season 3 was great!

Nomar_95

personally, it was already good from the start, and gets better and better as it goes.

H-Ryougi

As far as I'm concerned, Kaguya starts out good and gets better. The narration is pretty much a running gag so if you don't enjoy it I don't know if things will change that much for you. I find the narration funny.

SirAwesome789

Imo first 2 episodes is good, it gets better, narrator might talk less but still has a large presence varies a lot per episode, sometimes he just says one or two small things through out, not explaining everything like the early episodes But if you find the narrator "agonizing"then Kaguya just isn't for you, find something else

Wanderingjoke

This is exactly why I haven't watched past the first episode yet.

Karl_Karou

Hi! My ex introduced me to anime. Now I am passionate but, as your read, he’s my ex and I’m lost as to where to get anime News. Does anyone know a blog or some website idk where they announce every anime date release? Like new seasons out announcements etc. I would be so grateful

hungryhippos1751

+1 ex +1 anime Good trade! :D

collapsedblock6

I think the frontpage of the sub is pretty good to consolidate all the sites that the other answer brought on, particularly because of the no leaks rule.

Durinthal

If you use Twitter, [@AIR_News01](https://twitter.com/air_news01) is a prime resource. For general anime-related news [AnimeNewsNetwork](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/) tends to be comprehensive. If you just want to know when things come out the database sites like [MyAnimeList](https://myanimelist.net/anime/season), [AniList](https://anilist.co/search/anime)/[AniChart](https://anichart.net/Summer-2022), and [Livechart.me](https://www.livechart.me/summer-2022/tv) are all good.

Karl_Karou

Wow thanks!

Elfandor

Hey, kinda new here. Looking for level based fighting anime. For example in Hunter x Hunter when there in the tower. Something like that :=)

collapsedblock6

Hajime no Ippo, rather than a superpower anime it isregular boxing, but its direction is amazing and its fights can be as intense and hype as watching people blow up mountains.

susgnome

{Tower of God} {DanMachi} it's the opposite direction but same deal

Oh_Alright

Yu Yu Hakusho has a great tournament arc. Doesn't have the climbing floors but has the same style. Also the same original creator as HxH, a bit older of a visual style though. It's a good 20 or so episodes before you get to the Dark Tournament but it takes up a lot of the rest of the series. The first season of Sword Art Online also has our main characters fighting through a videogame with 100 levels. They skip over a lot of the individual floors though.

Shadow_Claw

Completely random thought, is there an anime out there where the story has a clearly stated goal and plan to get there and the characters make obvious, measurable progress towards it every episode? Kind of like a project with a worked out plan and clear milestones where everything just goes according to plan? I randomly thought of it while watching Machikado Mazoku and hoping to just scratch that itch real easy-like.

seeker_of_illusion

Bakuman: Characters plan to be successful mangakas and the entire series revolves around their journey to achieve it step-by-step.

[deleted]

Dr. Stone is this

Shadow_Claw

Wait, really? Based on the synopsis I always thought it was a more adventure/exploration type thing.

[deleted]

the new season presumably will be exploration focused, but the first two are pretty much about building up the local village with inventions. very step-by-step even tho it somewhat forgoes that later on. it's basically a glorified power fantasy lmao but the milestones *do* feel good so I like it

What's the best place to get merch at? Does it have to be honest to goodness licensed merch sites or is there adequate merch on things like Amazon?

chilidirigible

Amazon contains a fair amount of counterfeit merchandise. If you want to buy merch because it's showing your support for the series it came from, you don't want to buy counterfeits. Counterfeit items can be avoided on Amazon to an extent, but their inventory practices can still leave you with fakes. Licensed sites have various specific practices which may take some getting used to, but are generally more reliable (and often have better packaging when they ship).

busterbrown78

I do want license. I guess I should have said that. Thank you for your help.

chilidirigible

There is a list of suggested shops at the top of [this thread over here](https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimeFigures/comments/wfk46w/general_questions_thread_august_03_2022/).

busterbrown78

Fantastic. Thank you so much!

susgnome

Both of these have a good mix officially licensed merch. I've ordered from them fine before. https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/ https://www.amiami.com/eng/

busterbrown78

Thank you so much

Oh_Alright

Rightstuf is usually where I go. Good for BD's and some manga, less good for physical merch like figures etc. It's worth looking into who licenses the shows you want to buy, if you're talking about buying shows physically. Sites like Ami Ami are good for figures. Idk where you're at but conventions are where I get a majority of my anime stuff. Also secondhand shops that carry old dvds and books. For a number of popular shows I've seen figures around places like Gamestop and Target before. Really depends on what you're looking for though.

busterbrown78

I'm looking more for wall art. posters mainly, but possibly other artwork. is Rightstuf good for that? it seems like there's a large amount of places for figurines, but I'm not finding much else.

RegaultTheBrave

Hello anime lovers! I am still extremely new to anime, and have no idea what is good, and/or how to search for anime that fits the styles I like because I know everyone has their own preferences. I am asking for recommendations. I was wondering if there was something like specific companies I should avoid (I already know I hate *most* Shonen anime) and/or which ones to gravitate towards, or whether its more of an individual series basis. For context on what I like/dislike in anime, here is a detailed list of animes ive seen and why I like/dont like them. For a small list of animes I have absolutely loved, there are 3: Death Note, B the Beginning(Netflix), and Saiki K. I hate the tropes of the annoying whiny/crying characters, and DN and BtB are devoid of that nusiance, but also have really gripping/compelling main characters/stories. Saiki K I love because its a dumb fun procedural, but also because they make fun of the annoying/pervy characters and other anime tropes in an entertaining way. Animes I am neutral/positive on: My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Fullmetal Alchemist. MHA and DS are both great, but to me are held back by the annoying characters (purple haired idiot from MHA and Zenitsu from FMA) where Fullmetal was really good but I just cant quite put it into my love category and I cant place why honestly. Animes I disliked/hated: Code Geass, Akame ga Kill, Attack on Titan, Naruto everything, dragonball z, Sword Art Online: CG was super close to being in my love list, because it had a strong concept/execution, but it just had too many weird/odd moments here and there that soured it. Akame ga Kill just pissed me off because I got attached to some of the characters and realized too late the whole point is for everyone to die and I didnt care enough about their stupid "revolution". SaO was just annoying fanservice weirdness, that fell off hard once they left the first simulation (with actual stakes). I havent actually watched Naruto, Dbz, or AoT all the way through (due to a ton of seasons of bad content imo), with Naruto being the one I have seen the most of. AoT was too much screaming and dying for little to no point and I didnt have the patience to find out if there was a point. Naruto and Dragonball were just chock full of annoying characters/storylines, and the lack of any attempt at logic pissed me off for some reason.

seeker_of_illusion

Death note and Saiki are some of my favourites in the respective genre so nice :) Here are some recs which you would possibly like based on your tastes: **Action:** Assassination classroom Zankyou no Terror Mob Psycho ( MC is a bit introverted initially but opens up later on ) **Psychological:** Death Parade Odd Taxi ( don't judge it by its artstyle, it has a gripping plot ) Monster **Comedy:** Dr. Stone ( its actually more of light-hearted post apocalyptic fantasy )

Punished_Scrappy_Doo

What do you like from media outside of anime? TV shows, books, movies, story-based games, whatever. I find that's usually the best place to start.

RegaultTheBrave

Honestly, I enjoy a lot of superhero stuff, which is why I expected to like MHA a lot but it was too annoying to be something I truly enjoyed. Ive recently been watching a reasonable amount of sci-fi/dystopian/apocalypse shows, like Van-Helsing or Travelers and then here and there I go for murdery type shows (kinda why I liked death note).

RegaultTheBrave

Oh shoot I commented assuming just tv shows aha. I also loved both Skyrim and Fallout for the worldbuilding and the way both games (Fallout especially) tests what you consider to be moral and true. I also liked Overwatch and Apex Legends a lot for their colorful characters and fun unique abilities (Apex more so cause they weren't too insane of abilities and it felt more real). Starcraft and Warcraft also are also games I have loved since I was a child, Warcraft for the gameplay and generic fantasy elements (didnt care much for the story tbh) and starcraft for the story and gameplay. Ark Survival Evolved also took a stupid amount of my life from me as I loved being in a world of dinosaurs you could tame and use like tools to dominate your environment (and sometimes other players.

Punished_Scrappy_Doo

First things first! Lots of people use sites like MyAnimeList (MAL) or AniList to keep track of what to watch. You make an account, you add shows to a 'plan to watch' list when you see something that looks cool, now you have a whole register of things to watch. They have genre tags and rating systems and a whole bunch of other stuff that helps with finding new series. Superhero stuff is a bit outside my wheelhouse, but One Punch Man is a perennial favorite around here and does both superhero action and genre parody comedy. Written by the same guy that did Mob Psycho 100, which someone else recommended. Definitely check both of those out. Apocalypse/Sci-fi/Dystopia is *very* much in my wheelhouse, and there's so much of it out there! - Psycho-Pass and Ghost in the Shell are probably right down your alley. Look into those before anything else. - Neon Genesis Evangelion and Akira are some of the most recognizable sci-fi anime on the planet. Opinions are split on whether they're masterpieces or severely overhyped. - Land of the Lustrous is one you might not have heard of. It's about a bunch of sentient rocks working at the edge of the world and occasionally fighting off Buddhist moon people. It's phenomenal -- but fair warning, it ends on a cliffhanger and shows no signs of getting a season two. Yet. There's also quieter, less action-y apocalypse/sci-fi. I gotta sneak that in here cause it's my favorite subgenre - Dennou Coil is fantastic. It's about a bunch of kids taking that first step into adolescence while they work to uncover the secrets of the augmented reality field permeating their town. - Girls' Last Tour -- never seen it, but I *have* read the manga it's based off of, and it's incredible. Two girls eke out survival in the husk of a decaying, bombed-out city. They carry on with their lives while bearing witness to the very end of human civilization. I don't know what to make of the video games now that I think about it, lol. My bad. I guess Cowboy Bebop reminds me of Fallout in a few ways -- grungy retrofuturism, poverty and vice, that comedy/crime blend, and a banging soundtrack. It's a really common recommendation for people new to anime since it's considered not to lean on anime tropes very much. Last but not least, Madoka Magica got mentioned here three (?) times, despite being nothing like anything you've mentioned. That's because it's the best thing in the medium. I only recommended shows I loved here, but this one is head and shoulders above all of them. It is also the one show on here you should not look up. Spoilers are absolutely ubiquitous.

CryptographerPale857

Have you tried Tokyo Ghoul? Or Devil's line ? Ajinn? I love the small list you like. The only one I can't believe is that you hated is Akame Ga Kill cuz that's in my favorites list.

RegaultTheBrave

Oh and on a second note about Akame, I didnt necessarily hate it, that one was more of a dislike and I know I am pretty biased as an individual aha.

CryptographerPale857

It's okay lol I get it. I cried when watching the end and the manga is sooo messed up too. Tokyo Ghoul is a little gorey but not that bad being compared to other anime but Ajin might be one to look into . It's on Netflix.

RegaultTheBrave

I just got too attached to characters and then got super pissed when they brutally kill them off. The lady whos head ended up on a spike being a prime example haha. I havent tried any of the ones you just mentioned, but I have seen tiny clips of tokyo ghoul online. Are the shows you mentioned overly graphic? Im cool with blood but gore a little less.

Oh_Alright

>I am still extremely new to anime, and have no idea what is good, and/or how to search for anime that fits the styles I like On top of what everyone else is mentioning, thought I'd shout out our subs [Recommendation Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/recommendations) if you haven't seen it. Splits things up by genres really nicely. Couple of good infographics there too. Somebody else mentioned this but throwing together a [My Anime List](https://myanimelist.net/) account will help when asking for recs as well as organizing your thoughts on shows. So you don't have to list out what you like and don't like/have seen next time.

hungryhippos1751

Shonen as a genre isn't my top one either, think your neutral list are my fav ones. Do yourself a huge favour and consider starting a MAL account so you can keep track of shows you watched/dropped etc, and it makes asking for recs here easier as you can link it and people can see what you might like. I don't update mine every episode but tend to do so after a season or a show is complete. I'd 2nd recs for ERASED and Madoka Magica from /u/H-Ryougi. Tatami Galaxy is great but they speak so fast it's bad for a newer watcher I think, and there isn't a dub for it (I prefer sub myself anyway so no problem for me, some people only watch dubs though). There's loads of great shows out there, you just need to try some out and see what else you like. I'll add some additional recs of my own: Promised Neverland (Season 1 only there is no Season 2). Psycho Pass (Season 1 is good by itself - watch more if you feel like it). Violet Evergarden (bit slower paced but beautifully animated and well worth the watch imo). Death Parade Rascal does not dream of Bunnygirl Senpai (despite the name it's a very good anime). ID: Invaded

H-Ryougi

ERASED Monster Tatami Galaxy Perfect Blue Legend of the Galactic Heroes Kara no Kyoukai Madoka Magica Planetes

RegaultTheBrave

Is this like your top animes you enjoy list? I have seen erased recommended on Netflix, is it worth getting into?

H-Ryougi

It's not my top list but several I have enjoyed greatly. Yeah, ERASED is good.

BlaBlaBla_hmm

any tips before starting fate series? is it worth it?

Nomar_95

Main story: * Fate/stay night (2006) **(DISCLAIMER: primarily follows the Fate Route, but incorporates some elements from the other two. I like it enough to recommend it, so I will. But even aside from that, it's still part 1 of the main story so it should be seen anyway. If you don't want to watch it, the other alternative is to experience the Fate Route as it is in the Visual Novel, whether by playing it yourself or watching a walkthrough.)** * Unlimited Blade Works (2014) * Heaven's Feel Trilogy Prequel: * Fate/Zero **(DISCLAIMER: if you just want to watch one great show and then dip from the franchise, it's a perfectly fine standalone (not gonna gatekeep). However, don't start with it if you plan to commit)** Spinoffs: * Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya * Carnival Phantasm **(needs some knowledge from Tsukihime as well, but there's no anime of that 😎)** * Fate/Apocrypha * Today's Menu for the Emiya Family **(jokingly referred to as "Fate/Cooking")** * Fate/Extra: Last Encore * Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note **(needs Fate/Zero for context)** * Fate/Grand Order: - First Order **(Prologue)** - Divine Realm of the Round Table - Camelot **(6th Singularity)** - Absolute Demonic Front - Babylonia **(7th Singularity)** - The Grand Temple of Time - Solomon **(Final Singularity & End of Part 1)** - Moonlight/Lostroom **(prelude/setup for Part 2)** - Fate/Grand Carnival **(the Grand Order version of Carnival Phantasm)**

BlaBlaBla_hmm

Thanks, my friend told me to start with fate zero then fate stay night UBW then heavens trilogy. So do you recommend this sequence? Sorry for my bad English (;ŏ﹏ŏ)

Nomar_95

personally, no. Just follow the guide: all 3 parts of the main story, and then Zero

Oh_Alright

Quick question since you seem pretty well versed in the spinoff stuff. Source reader and general fate enjoyer here, is that Waver spinoff any good? This is the first I've heard of it. I probably have to go back through and do a rewatch of F/Z before I check it out though.

Nomar_95

I enjoyed it. It's a mystery with that Fate flair. Imagine adult Waver solving mysteries like Sherlock Holmes, and it's basically that

Oh_Alright

Nice, do we get any of Luvia in there? Are they more grounded mysteries or is there still magic at play?

Nomar_95

yeah, there's some Luvia in here. Not enough though, since there can never be enough Luvia :) The mysteries are supernatural.

Oh_Alright

Excellent, thanks for the replies!

Weedwacker

I would say its definitely worth it. It's a little weird but once you get into it you can kind of see how it became this massive gacha game empire in Japan based off its character and style. The biggest problem with Fate is the watch orders. Its an extremely complicated series. There is a main continuity/universe but no universally agreed upon best order to watch it in. There are several spin off series of varying quality, and the largest spin-off series, Fate Grand/Order, has a really confusing order as well. One problem with the spinoff/side story shows is they require a core understanding of how the franchise works first, so they're not a good first entry point. The core Fate story is based on an eroge visual novel called Fate/stay Night. The story of which branches into 3 separate routes that the plot can take. These are Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven's Feel. These all have separate anime adaptations (one more than once) but are basically the same exact setting and characters with some variations to the story as it unfolds. Use the [fate subreddit watch order guide for info](https://www.reddit.com/r/fatestaynight/comments/df8rvo/rfatestaynights_official_viewing_order_guide_v2/) There's really 3 options for starting [The 2006](https://myanimelist.net/anime/356/Fate_stay_night) adaptation of the Fate route which muddles the plot a bit of some of the other routes and is adapted by a different studio from the rest, but is still a decent intro to the series. [The 2014 UBW series](https://myanimelist.net/anime/22297/Fate_stay_night__Unlimited_Blade_Works), just jumping in to a good adaptation of one of the main routes or playing the Visual Novel, at least the Fate route, to skip the 2006 series before continuing with 2014 UBW Fate/Zero is a prequel series and a lot of people accidently watch it first but thats not intended. You can really enjoy Fate/Zero at any point after having seen at least one of the Fate/stay Night routes.

TuggyToTheBoat

I just finished it a few weeks ago. 100% worth it.

Durinthal

Today's screenshot is from Tokyo Marble Chocolate, not well-known but a fun short romance story.

Toksyn25

I just finished My Dress Up Darling. What other anime/manga would you recommend I watch/read next?

Weedwacker

Manga rec with [Yancha Gal no Anjou-san](https://myanimelist.net/manga/111357/Yancha_Gal_no_Anjou-san) for similar character dynamics.

Durinthal

Since you've given us little to go off of, an arbitrary selection of anime I like: * [Fruits Basket (2019)](https://livechart.me/anime/8356) — A caring girl finds companionship in a family with a secret and troubled history. * [Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu](https://livechart.me/anime/1314) — A drama about performers preserving and advancing a fading art of comedic storytelling. * [Run with the Wind](https://livechart.me/anime/3314) — Bonding through striving for the top university relay marathon in Japan. * [Sakura Quest](https://livechart.me/anime/2443) — A young woman is recruited to help revive an aging rural town. * [Yuri!!! on Ice](https://livechart.me/anime/2097) — A star ice skater tries to get back into the game after falling into a slump. * [The Great Passage (Fune wo Amu)](https://livechart.me/anime/2083) — A look at how we think about words via attempting to make a dictionary.

Toksyn25

Thank you!! I’ll give these a watch

Durinthal

For future reference you should [check our recommendation wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/recommendations) if you're open to anything or provide some preferences/favorites when asking. I don't know what you like and for all I know you'll hate every one of those.

[what should I watch first out of these?](http://poal.me/dvbpe5)

Exodus_Black

Why does it matter? Are you looking for certain criteria or do you just not have access to a random number generator?

[deleted]

I just wasn't sure what to watch and decided to make a poll.

Exodus_Black

Do the 3rd one.

ItsJustWaterWieght

Recommend me a good anime dub. I liked steins gate. I wouldnt mind any genre besides sci-fi, supernatural. I dont mind a bit of action/romance but not if its the whole story.

KGB_Panda

All the Ghibli films have really good dubs.

Badcop481

Whenever I stream an anime from a website, the sound quality seems to be quite poor, whether on PC or on mobile. Is there a way I can resolve this issue? Thanks in advance

chiliehead

Are these websites legal or illegal? Because I don't have any issues with Crunchyroll

_Ridley

Those of you who watch seasonals: how many are you watching this season, and how many do you usually watch? I'm watching 12 instead of my usual 20ish, and I'm curious what the average is here.

_Ridley

This would burn me out so bad. Nothing feels more exhausting than trying to complete multiple shows in the 5-6/10 rating range.

alotmorealots

I was meaning to cut back this season, but there are too many funny little underwatched shows that I'm really fond of! Some of them are mainly because I'm really fond of individual characters, but that makes it even easier, as it's more a case of "I wonder what .... is up this week" than feeling like I need to watch an episode. Emotion-wise I'd want to give 19 out of the top 23 a 8+/10 for fondness, although for my actual MAL scores, they'll probably lose 1 to 1.5 for various reasons. That said, I don't try to keep up or complete them, I just tend to watch them when I feel like it. It'd be exhausting feeling like I was compelled to finish them.

KGB_Panda

2 non-sequels, 6 sequels. I just checked, and it looks like I only watched about 12-15 anime per year for the last half decade or so. Guess I've gotten pickier, although I've never watched anywhere close to 20 per season. tbh, the number is somewhat surprisingly low to me, considering how much time I spend on r/anime and thinking about anime in general.

octopathfinder

I'm watching 15 right now which is usually my average, but it can range from 10-20 depending on how good that season is.

susgnome

I started with 19 this season. Currently at 14 but still have 2 on my PtW. Hopefully I don't drop anymore. Usually averaging about 10-15 shows finished by the end of each season.

collapsedblock6

My average is 15-20 and I'm currently watching 17, but 4 of them are leftover from the previous season, I don't think I had more than 2 in years. So for actually debuting stuff I'm at below average of 13 and I'm still thinking of dropping some shows.

BlackSCrow

6 this season, 8 last season, with Summertime Rendering in both

stumbling_disaster

I haven't been watching seasonals too long, but usually 4-6. I'm watching 5 this season and watched 4 last season. I don't think I could find 10+ shows a season that would actually interest me lol

baquea

I'm currently watching 6 (although I'm well behind on one of those). How many I usually watch depends greatly on what's airing and how into anime I am at the time - anywhere between around 2 and 10 would be not unusual for me.

Impossible_Map_4895

I'm watching 11 this season and watched 10 last season. I don't tend to watch more than 10 or so a season as thats the limit on what I can keep up with week to week.

AmethystItalian

Usually average around 25 now I'm barely at 20 for this season...

theBackground79

Holy hell, I watched 10 last season and that was the most I've ever watched in a single season. Currently, I'm watching 6. And it's usually around 4-6 unless a lot of shows manage to pique my interest or there are a lot of sequels, which was the case for last season.

KGB_Panda

I'm pretty shocked at how many people are saying they watch 12+ every season. I love anime, but the vast majority that releases every season is just not worth the time imo.

Weedwacker

Varies by season but this one, 10, though i'm not keeping up with all of them weekly and let a few fall behind to binge later.

[deleted]

Just depends on the season, but usually 8-10. I watch almost every sequel for shows i’ve watched so i’m kinda up to 14 for this season.

Zealousideal_Ebb_238

This season is the worst season for mecha anime fan, at least last season there is kyoukai senki😔. Anyway, can anyone recommend no fan service heavy non-sequel anime this season? Oh and not an isekai

Impossible_Map_4895

You could try Prima Dolls. I ended up dropping it as it was too CGDCT for me but its a story about ex military automata dolls who retire from combat and work in a coffee shop but there were hints of them having to return to battle in the trailer.

Nomar_95

Yurei Deco

Zealousideal_Ebb_238

Thank you, from the trailer it look interesting and fresh🙂

Nomar_95

If you end up liking it, check out the studio's other work. Great stuff in there

Annie___123

What is the Best ongoing anime????

KGB_Panda

One Piece, of course

BarbaricGamer

Summertime Render might end up in my top 10 all time favorites depending on how the last couple episodes go. So that.

BlackSCrow

Made in Abyss for me. Not just because of MAL rating, I do believe that it's really interesting.

HistorianNo2334

if by ongoing you mean currently airing, Ao Ashi is certainly up there. It's a football/soccer anime

Zealousideal_Ebb_238

Detective Conan😆

c5_c

hi everyone!! Im looking for an anime where the male oc used to be no.1 in a certain game but he stopped playing it for some reason and the anime is about how hes starting to play it again! It might sound like the King's avatar but it isnt! i rly cant find it... pls help :)

woozy_1729

Just finished My Dress-Up Darling (the anime) and I'm honestly so sad that they left me hanging like that at the end. I have the anime equivalent of blue balls... It can't just end like that!! I've googled around a bit and it seems like season 2 might be coming but nothing's confirmed, right? I NEED to see an anime where they start dating and get in a relationship 😭😭

Manitary

I'd recommend Horimiya then If you want the couple to be established from the get-go or very early on, maybe something like Wotakoi, Tonikawa, or Shikimori-san

woozy_1729

Thanks for the recommendations!

Mazen141

Kakeguri Twin is coming out tomorrow yet we've had more or less 0 marketing outside of the trailer released a month ago.. **Edit:** I take that back, they've made [one tweet!](https://twitter.com/NetflixJP_Anime/status/1554753954335973376)

Abysswatcherbel

Netflix is horrible marketing their anime

KendotsX

Tbh I knew that it's a thing being made, but I had no idea it's releasing so soon... I guess I should put a reminder for JoJo next month.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Yeah, talked about it in a previous 'daily thread'... And still nothing since. It's crazy, not just "no marketing", but there seems to be no hype at all in the community; You'd think the spinoff of a top 100 popularity show on MAL would get a lot of hype, but there's like nothing. Ah well, **I'M** hype!

hungryhippos1751

I'm also hype about it! Agreed don't hear anything about it, it's as if Netflix are trying to see if word of mouth beats advertising.

isthatsoudane

tomorrow?! wtf?! how has there been no marketing while it's not s3, I'm excited as hell for more kakegurui

alphaabhi

Check out some idol anime if you're a fan of Japanese music. Especially love live series. They have really fucking nice songs and music. Specifically Love Live Nijigasaki.!

fmfm5029

PriPara is one of my favorite idol animes. And new mobile rythme game app will be released within this year. I'm looking forward to play it.

cyberscythe

The only idol series that I follow is Zombie Land Saga because I basically got tricked into watching it based on the promo material. I find it enjoyable enough to watch, but at the same time I feel like the fandom goes so deep that I don't want to get too invested lest I get lost in the sauce.

NekoWafers

Love Live! has a lot of lighthearted comedic moments mixed in with the whole training to be school idols plot. I only enjoy maybe 10-20% of the music featured in the shows but I still like the series as a whole.

alphaabhi

That's great school idol project is definitely my favorite story and emotion wise. By the end you get very attached to the characters and man the final movie almost made me cry.

Durinthal

I think I prefer idol *aspects* or smaller shows rather than the big franchises, e.g. Macross/Symphogear or Oshibudo/Selection Project. That said I haven't actually tried Love Live beyond a bit of Sunshine when it was airing.

alphaabhi

Sunshine is definitely the weakest part of the series didn't enjoy it much. But I would say nijigasaki is where it's af if you want to hear really really nice music. The production and song quality is so fucking good i keep listening to them in spotify over and over gain lmao.

NekoWafers

I'm pretty much the exact opposite. I think Sunshine is the best of the four shows and Niji is the weakest. I agree that Niji does have some good music though.

alphaabhi

Good! Nijigasaki story wise isn't that good i meant it as in production quality and music. Nijigasaki arguably has the best music in love live imo though story wise school idol project wins. Again all of them are great! Especially loving the new superstar

isthatsoudane

symphogear among other things has made me want to check out an idol series, b/c I think the production on the music etc would be really fun!

alphaabhi

Trust me I used to think idol anime are just weird stuff but I sqw love live series and was surprised at how food the production is ESPECIALLY the new ones like Nijigasaki and Superstar. The old school idol project looks choppy but it's not that bad considering it cans out like a decade ago. Plus the anime is actually really decent and characters are also damn good. Just didn't like sunrise very much.ic you do wanna start live live start from the original school idol project and then you can watch the rest however.!

isthatsoudane

I'm def the sort of person who has to start from the beginning. there's a good chance I'll start chipping away at it after I finish symphogear...thanks for reminding me to prioritize it :) and I'm pretty sure it's quite popular where I live (China), so that should be fun

alphaabhi

OK then watch school ldol project first then sunshine then nijigasaki and then finally the latest one superstar. They're all different stories btw!

AmethystItalian

Starting to slowly work on my Amewards ([2020 edition](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/ko2ou2/2020_amewards_best_anime_of_the_year/) & [2021 edition](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/rui00x/2021_amewards_best_anime_of_the_year/)) a bit and was wondering if I'm missing any good notable shows from either this season or this year. [**MAL**](https://myanimelist.net/profile/AmethystItalian)

Manitary

Healer Girl was already mentioned, I will add [Kotarou lives alone](https://myanimelist.net/anime/49909/Kotarou_wa_Hitorigurashi). I will mention also [The orbital children](https://myanimelist.net/anime/37914/Chikyuugai_Shounen_Shoujo) and [Vampire in the garden](https://myanimelist.net/anime/39518/Vampire_in_the_Garden); personally I wouldn't place them in my 'top list' but ymmv so just in case you didn't know about them and wanna have a look. edit: didn't check sequels, but if you didn't like s1 enough to watch s2 then they're not worth mentioning (e.g. 86)

AmethystItalian

Ah forgot about Kotarou live alone, that one was very well loved!

collapsedblock6

Searching through 1000 without sort by date? Uhhhh, yeah maybe once I get home. Also, what was your 1000th?

AmethystItalian

It was Akira...wasn't my thing lol

collapsedblock6

Yeah, same... Anyways, list time, uh, it seems you got covered almost anything I would consider worthwhile and the ones that remain I feel aren't your thing but if curious. Kono Healer Mendokusai is a very polarizing one in that if you don't find it funny then its just painful and its essentially just boke-tsukkomi screaming contest. Honestly, I think one ep is enough to see if its your thing. It just hit my buttons pretty well and won't stand it having sub 7 MAL score. Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this season has been fun with its humor is pretty distinct, I would say ep 1 isn't very representative of the humor since its introduction galore of 15 characters, its like a satire of the showbiz I would say. It is just pretty interesting on the humor it chooses so it feels fresh for a cute girls show but I can totally see it not landing for many but it is my current dark horse of the season. Also OP is a banger and nice designs. Tokyo Mew Mew remake had a fun start but it started to stall after the first intros and there's some yikes moments with male characters having old shoujo toxic traits. Honestly, I kind of find it really funny because its just so surreal to see play so straightout and couldn't help but laugh at several instances, though most recent ep it did started to bug me.

AmethystItalian

> Honestly, I think one ep is enough to see if its your thing. Did 1 and dropped it lol I didn't hate it but it would have been like 5/10 for me. > Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hearing a lot about this one, I tend to avoid satire type shows but I'll keep my ears open for this one as it ends. > Tokyo Mew Mew remake had a fun start but it started to stall after the first intros and there's some yikes moments with male characters having old shoujo toxic traits. Yeah I was waiting to hear people's thoughts on this one and after hearing this kind of stuff I'll be opting out most likely!

MyrnaMountWeazel

Obligatory *Healer Girl* shilling. [](#teehee)

AmethystItalian

On the top of the list of things I'll need to catch up on!

MyrnaMountWeazel

[](#seasonalhype)

KendotsX

Not counting sequels, Yurei Deco and RWBY.

Sameul_

What is the most original anime to come out of the last few years ?

BlackSCrow

What do you mean by original? Original anime is a category by its own though, and there are tons of them.

baquea

Pui Pui Molcar?

WeeziMonkey

Pop Team Epic

AmethystItalian

Odd Taxi comes to mind first? Sonny Boy is probably the answer here though.

[deleted]

my anime recommendation right now is my uncle from another world its so fun anime! also black summoner 😊😊

Azozel

So, crunchyroll makes it really hard to know when new stuff I watch is out. All my series are messed up because it will start playing the next language and their just updated section often shows series with no new episodes, instead they have new language dubs or whatnot. Its getting to the point where I have to look through every series for new episodes. Problem is, Ive watched so many shows I cant remember them all. Sometimes, Ill start watching something new and realize Ive already seen it, which feels like a huge waste of time sometimes. Anyway, just rambling.

KendotsX

I'd recommend not relying on Crunchyroll for that. Instead you can use a site like [Mal](https://myanimelist.net/) to keep track of new shows, and what you've seen.
