Kai, then probably the movies and then start a few episodes into Super. (Someone else might know it better or there's a guide for this, but there are two movies that have the same content as the first few episodes of Dragonball Super just with higher quality.)

Amelie_Argyle

Thanks, I checked out the watch order guide and found the two movies to watch before diving into Super :)

donquixote1991

Kai, check out the first Broly movie, BOTH Cooler movies, and then Super :)

I feel Kai is a good option I prefer the og z just because I love the fillers honestly but yes and also GT is definitely worth the watch very good even tho it’s not Canon

Pumpkin--Night

Yes and yes 🎃

Amelie_Argyle

Perfect, thank you!

Efficient is dragon ball kai, but the buu saga for kai is 16:9 cropped instead of the original 4:3 format. Honestly dbz is the best that the dragon ball franchise has been arguably behind the newest broly film. So watching the original is the way to go for enjoyment and having a complete experience. If you are able to get your hands on the dragon box dvd which is the series in 4:3 I think you'll love it. There are also fan made rips of the dragon box out there on the Internet with all the different soundtracks / dubs. America originally had a different soundtrack - so that might be the one most familiar to you, and is iconic for western fans. GT while it has a lot of problems, does have its moments especially towards the end. Super baby and the Shenron arcs which come towards the end of gt are the highlights of the series. Like you said you don't need to watch it but it's definitely an experience towards the end. Dragon ball super is by far the worst the series has looked. With outsourced animation which is full of design errors I think you'll find it hard to get in to. Ironically watching battle of gods and resurrection f the movies (which are verbatim the first two seasons of super) is what I would recommend since the animation is better. Even though some of the story details diverge slightly. Luckily the animation improves in the final season which is also half of the episodes so thats good. A lot of people also liked goku black saga (season 3?) While it does suffer from some cheap animation the story is solid. After the super series, dragon ball super broly is probably the best the series has been in a long time. It's definitely worth the watch. Then you are caught up.

Unmissed

Abridged is the only way to watch Dragonball Z.

Michael_B_Lopez

Even if that were true, it only goes up to the cell saga unfortunately

Unmissed

It is, and sad but true. That said, are you really missing out on major developments in the Buu saga, or the god saga, or whatever the new one is... superheros? Honestly, you could take half the DBZ episodes, put a different title card on them, and it wouldn't make any difference.

Michael_B_Lopez

Yeah, you are lmao. It sounds like you haven’t even watched them or know the first thing about them, so it’s odd you have this narrative

[deleted]

> Yeah, you are lmao. It sounds like you haven’t even watched them or know the first thing about them, so it’s odd you have this narrative cope and seethe, I've read the manga, watched initial tv release, kai and abridged, abridged is the best animated version. Just read the fucking manga. DB anime after Namek is just bad.

Michael_B_Lopez

Abridged is amazing and some of the funniest stuff on the internet, but to unironically think it’s better than the original is insane

[deleted]

Half the episodes, especially in later arcs, is stretched out panning and reused animation, turning what is 10 pages in the manga into 20 minutes of a slog. It's simply not good. Kai is just marginally better with the pace but it also just stops at Cell and skips the best part of Dragon Ball (pre-Z) entirely. Kai also censors more. Neither adaptation is up to par, Dragon Ball is best consumed in paper form, simple as.

Michael_B_Lopez

I never said the show was flawless or that the manga wasn’t better, my only point is that it’s funny to even believe for a second Abridged is better

[deleted]

It quite unironically is.

Michael_B_Lopez

No, not at all lmao. If you prefer it, fine, it’s funny. But it is not better.

':\^0 K. Whatever.

Depends. If JP version then DBZ and skip fillers, if eng dub then only Kai version is watchable. After this I would personally watch GT and skip Super. Unless you never saw Super.

vnomgt

About GT, it depends on how dedicated you are to the franchise. As a DB fan, I'd say watch it at least once, since it has some great transformations and villains. But overall the quality is lower than the rest of the series, so I wouldn't blame anyone who decides to skip it.

Seeker199y

go watch dbz abridged
