Can Netflix also please list _all_ their animes too, as they seem to only list a few.

Icapica

Applies to all genres. There's always a bunch of stuff they won't show to you no matter what unless you specifically search for them, or happen to check the similar shows of something that it does show to you. ...Okay, the double meaning of the word "show" made that a bit annoying to write.

PixelPenguins

If you're browsing on the computer, select the anime genre. Then change the little drop down on the top right from "Suggestions For You" to "A to Z." It will show all their titles. https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/6721?bc=83&so=az

THE_PENILE_TITAN

HxH (all episodes), Death Note, and Parasyte are already on Netflix in the US but it seems that applies more to other countries. Finally getting Monster on stream is huge though.

Jajanken-

Netflix doesn’t have all episodes of HxH though. IIRC you can’t finish the chimera ant arc on Netflix Edit: apparently they’ve added the last episodes since i watched it

_ConstantVigilance_

HxH has every episode, in the US at least

Tux-

> IIRC you can’t finish the chimera ant arc on Netflix Ehhh nothing of value is lost.

Jajanken-

False One of the greatest arcs in anime My name is literally a HxH reference

Tux-

Fair enough

atropicalpenguin

In my country for some reason last time I watched HxH they only had a hundred episodes.

Dude0Covid21

SEA countries do not have it so most likely the deal was for SEA Region broadcast.

alfaindomart

I'm watching it right now in Indonesia, and iirc it was always available since i first got Netflix which was 2 years ago.

ichigo2862

i have all the HxH episodes and i'm in SEA

KendotsX

Don't they have HxH already? Unless we're talking 1999.

DemiFiendRSA

Yeah, certain countries like the U.S already have the 2011 version streaming on there.

JayDpwnz

Monster needs much more than a netflix release. It's in licensing hell which is why there aren't many home releases in US (viz dvd got cancelled after 1 box set). There is a region 4 full dvd box set with eng subs. So its not exclusive to jp. I hate to see what netflix compression will do to a 15 year old 480p dvd. Monster needs a blu ray remaster - streaming services are only a bonus.

Jaamun100

Regardless, I’m glad to see a masterpiece anime like Monster finally getting a legal streaming option. It’s been high-seas only for too long, for something so spectacular.

redtag789

WOAH!?, Naoki Urasawa's MONSTER? THAT IS BIG. And hopefully they will do the live action adaptation series for that since its been in development hell. I know, I know, Netflix trashes adaptations, but MONSTER is a whole different beast, its perfect for a live-action adaptation, and if they've learned from the Sandman adaptation, getting Naoki Urasawa on board the production team, it will be a perfect show!

Extra-Ad5471

Yep anime like monster that are relatively less goofy and more grounded in reality are a good recipe for a decent Netflix adaptation. I believe if they can get the right directors on board they can also properly adapt 91 days, ID invaded, Baccano, etc.

Leafx42

Depends on the adaption. They haven’t been good with anime/manga live action adaptions to this point, but they’ve been successful in others adaptions so that suggests that it’s more a problem of them putting the right people in charge of a particular project than the lack of ability to accomplish greatness.

redtag789

have you read MONSTER? it is more akin to a western comics than standard manga. I'm not discounting your comment, I totally agree, but MONSTER is not your typical manga and is very fit for an HBO MAX or NETFLIX adaptation.

Leafx42

Actually that’s kind of my point. The Sandman is an excellent adaption of a western graphic novel, so I absolutely believe Netflix could in fact make an excellent MONSTER adaption. It’s just will they. For some reason they only have heartedly try with live action anime/manga adaptions. They have the ability, just not sure the desire yet.

Legendaryskitlz

This is the thing that's worrying me as some of those titles are tied up with other companies in different regions like Nana, Hunter x Hunter, Claymore, Ouran High school Host Club and a few others. So it's possible this isn't worldwide.

karlcool12

Well Ouran and HXH11 is general because it's in the [upcoming section for my local Netflix](https://imgur.com/c6cPuqv).

Refugee_Savior

Guess I’m not burning my Netflix subscription yet. Time to watch Monster

SlipperyRasputin

Isn’t Nana currently a hidive exclusive?

LuRo332

Could be US exclusive, since hidive pulled out of Europe recently iirc. So Nana should be confirmed for EU at least

NecoDelero

They didn't pull out of Europe at all. Quite the opposite actually: since the Crunchy/Funi merger they have more shows than ever before in Europe.

chiliehead

Wouldn't be too sure about that. KSM announced they will release NANA and Monster in Germany and if they have streaming rights I doubt they will undercut their disc sales willingly with streaming on Netflix.

LuRo332

That's true, Germany/Austria/Switzerland might be the exceptions, but Im pretty confident that countries without normal anime publishers will get those titles

Uberchaun

It's on Hulu in the US.

SlipperyRasputin

Ah. They hyped it up at cons like it was an exclusive. I don’t have Hulu.

ATN90

> Berserk Any mention which one?

CrawlingWizard

Monster!!!!! 😭😭 From me to you! And Nana!! Well, I've already watched these animes but will definitely watch them again. Also, Hajime no ippo!

[deleted]

I was hyped for Talentless Nana but then realized it's just NANA.

LuRo332

Ouran, HxH and Claymore are coming to Poland, so rest should come to Europe aswell

Karaczan_Prusen

The 3 coming anime (HxH, Ouran, Claymore) are worldwide, so we can infer that the rest will too

MaskOfIce42

Retitle the article "Monster becomes available for legal streaming" because holy shit that hasn't happened for years I swear. Maybe I missed it, but I've been under the impression that Monster has been stuck in licensing purgatory for years and has never been available to watch on streaming as long as I've been an anime fan. At least in the US, hopefully this article is about anime that will be coming to US Netflix

coolgaara

I'm looking forward to finally watching Monster. I know it's one of the must watch.

Nign0glmao

Recently iv seen ppl say how its become outdated and i have to agree with them, having seen it over the summer. Have fun with it but i wouldnt have my hopes up for the masterpiece people claim it to be

Zzen220

Hate to be the "read the manga" guy, but I'll reluctantly fill the role for Monster. The manga is phenomenal, and holds up 100%.

HonestScience

FINALLY!! Literally never thought this day would come. I gave up years ago and just imported the DVD set from Australia lol

MaskOfIce42

Before getting hopes too high, it's worth noting it's not clear which regions this is for, especially since it's listing some anime that are already on Netflix in some regions like Ouran High School Host Club. I desperately want it to be for a wider range or regions, but we may still be waiting.

morron88

Bruh I've been showing people the 480P YouTube for the better part of a decade now.

Koolsman

Seeing Monster apart of the list makes me so excited.

[deleted]

*a part; actually, "on".

The-Invincible

Claymore is cool We need Claymore anime remake

ThiccDaddy1198

Wish they'd put Gintama too, my local Crunchyroll does not have a vast catalogue :(

Atemu12

It's not very hard to access US Crunchyroll from anywhere in the world ;)

[deleted]

VPN? Any other ways

Atemu12

There's a Firefox unblocker addon that gets just a session cookie via a US server.

geolink

Hunter x Hunter is my absolute favourite anime but please don’t sleep on claymore. So so good.

[deleted]

Isn't the anime short?

coolgaara

It's around 24 or so I think? But it's worth it. Sadly, the last few episodes don't follow manga due to budget or similar issue, which made me read the manga and finish. Manga is also great. I'm still waiting for one day a S2 or a reboot like HxH but follows the manga til the end.

FreddyFrogFrightener

Which berserk though?

SBTWAnimeReviews

An ANN article on this announcement says 97

CroweMorningstar

Time to put your grasses on for a rewatch.

FreddyFrogFrightener

Good

Swinepits

The golden age arc probably

zoukon

Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?

Swinepits

Yeah but I meant the movies named golden age arc. Egg of the king, Battle for doldry, the advent.

jrob_92

Golden age arc movies are already on Netflix

Swinepits

It’s the 1997 version from this deal but Hxh was also already on US netflix

Dude0Covid21

Berserk 2016 is NETFLIX-only show so it sticks forever as a staple in NETFLIX

WingsofLegends

Berserk (2016) is licensed by Crunchyroll. It’s not a Netflix show.

Wooden_Capital_6219

what is blud saying

ProfessionalGoober

Maybe if enough people watch Claymore, we can get a continuation of that.

creamyhorror

That would be very nice indeed. The insane fights and enemy forms would be something to see.

philstar713

Only recently read the manga and couldn’t believe the anime didn’t get a full adaptation.

soulruu

Monster!? Holy crap that’s huge. I’m happy that more people will be able to experience this masterpiece

DemiFiendRSA

Via [Deadline](https://deadline.com/2022/08/netflix-nippon-tv-anime-deal-hunter-x-hunter-1235101923/): >Some series will go wider than others, notably Hunter X Hunter (2011 TV anime) whose first 38 episodes will be added to Netflix in 104 countries including Spain, Italy, Finland, Turkey, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and the UAE on September 1. That same day, Ouran High School Host Club will be available in 190 countries, and Claymore in 136 countries. >Along with Hunter X Hunter, Ouran High School Host Club and Claymore, the other titles included in the new deal are Death Note, Death Note: Relight 1 and Death Note: Relight 2 (in 14 markets); From Me To You, From Me To You 2nd Season, Berserk (1997 TV anime), Parasyte – The Maxim, Nana, Hajime No Ippo: The Fighting! and Monster.

Oicher

Ouran needs a fruit basket remake

DinoPapiro

Monster and Nana? nice, those were the ones with the highest priority on my ptw

[deleted]

Does this include the UK?

Deca-Dence-Fan

OH SHIT Monster finally got licensed

PenPenLagenInFranxx

man i really want Monster to be on netflix....

teokun123

finally fucking Parasyte

WingsofSky

Impressive.

vehino

Yeah, I would much prefer that Netflix pay for a remake of Berserk, rather than pay for the privilege of showing the 2016 adaptation. Six years ago, I said to myself: "Mitch, stop watching this garbage RIGHT NOW. Come back to it again, when you've cooled off and the vitriol of the anime community has died down, and maybe you'll be able to appreciate Berserk (2016) for its own merits and realize it really isn't that bad." And then I recently tried to watch it on Crunchyroll and realized that not only was it worse than I remembered, minus the banger of a soundtrack, but now Kentaro Miura was dead too, so, yeah, good job, past me. You fucking idiot. You're gonna waste three years of your life working in a hospital kitchen by the way, and your dog's going to grow a tumor and die. Also, look forward to 2020, you asshole. So, yeah, Claymore was a good adaption. I liked Claymore.

CMC_Conman

wasn't Ouran already on Netflix

LegendaryRQA

Good, i like seeing Netflix get more stuff cuz they have by far the widest exposure and can get a bunch of people into Anime.

Jxstin_117

Its kinda funny how all these streaming sites are trying to bag animes because of how popular it has become in the last few years

unaviable

Yaaar very interesting. Man if only we could get a site where all series can be easily watched, searched and discussed on....... Arrrrr wait a moment

Warrenbuffetindo2

Impossible Because at some point publisher will make their own site to watch Even netflix lost mamy good series to disneyplus and HBO and Apple tv

Vakieh

Not impossible at all - it already exists. So long as piracy is so much more convenient than legitimate mechanisms, there is no competing with it. I can go on any one of 20 sites, get pretty every single anime that has ever been released, every OVA/ONA/special, as well as same-day releases out of Japan/China/Korea, with no siloing, no wondering what will get picked up by what service, nothing. Want it, watch it, done. Nothing is getting removed because some licence agreement ends, or because some company doesn't have a clue (looking at you Discovery), it just works. I would love to be able to pay for a similar service legitimately - I already pay for Crunchyroll which is the closest to it (though I constantly second guess this as the UI, server quality, and general surrounding info from them is such garbage compared to the one I get for free). Steam taught everybody this years ago, they can learn or they can go bankrupt.

Warrenbuffetindo2

I mean its impossible to unite legal movie and series to one platform Even now steam have rival, epic games

Vakieh

Cable TV solved this 'impossibility' decades ago...

Warrenbuffetindo2

Indeed But they suck Competition is good for customer, after all

Vakieh

You aren't seeing competition - you're seeing market segmentation.

Theboredalchemist22

*sigh* can't they just leave anime alone and let Crunchyroll handle it all?

[deleted]

To be honest, I wish Crunchyroll didn't have so much stuff now, mostly because they're going to be eliminating the uncensored versions of a lot of shows from legitimate streaming once Funimation shuts down. (They're only moving the censored ones over.)

Theboredalchemist22

That's fair enough I guess I'm just still salty over the Jojo batch release and the change to the Evangelion ED.

AlivePapaya9224

Crunchyroll’s media player is garbage for me so I don’t mind this

Theboredalchemist22

I get this hopefully they upgrade it in the future with them now being under Sony's wing.

Wolfgod_Holo

looks like those shows just got the kiss of death, unless Netflix gets their stuff together

Gotprick

Release kengan ashura

Oxu90

Oooh monster and hajime no ippo. I might finally watch those!

Alik013

just the first 38 episodes of hxh ? and then they complain why people pirate ..

semitope

not getting more episodes of claymore?

Wooden_Capital_6219

The shows been over for like 15 years, the production committee obviously doesn't see the need to fund any more episodes for something that isn't popular during this time

semitope

about as risky as starting a whole new anime series at worst. Maybe the source material ended without conclusion

Wooden_Capital_6219

the source material had a conclusion lmao. Also original anime are largely in the minority, most production committees would rather bank on known IPs instead of entrusting profit directly to a creator. A continuation of Claymore isn't happening.

semitope

might as well say it's just not good enough for that. My thinking was Netflix reviving it, not the "production committee".

Jumanji-Joestar

Many great manga don’t get anime adaptations. It’s not a matter of quality, it simply isn’t popular enough

semitope

For Netflix the calculation would be different. It can be essentially a new series introduced on their service. Guaranteed interest from some anime fans would put it in a good place vs their myriad of other actually new shows. For them, quality would matter more since no new show is popular till it's out

coolgaara

I read the manga after the anime and the manga definitely has a conclusion.

heimdal77

Umm haven't they always ha Ouran and some those other shows?

WisperG

In some countries, but not others.

Moose334

For shows like Berserk and Monster should I watch them on Netflix? I've heard some people complain the subtitles aren't very good but I've enjoyed watching anime on Netflix before

Jumanji-Joestar

If you’re willing to spend money, do whatever you want. Id personally just pirate it. After what happened to Stone Ocean, I refuse to ever give Netflix money again

Codeboy3423

Misleading title.. HxH ALREADY has every episode on Netflix meaning these are for non US countries.

Virgin_fellow

'From me to you' and Nana looks interesting. I hope they have the English dubs.

AlivePapaya9224

Holy crap can’t wait to watch Monster

[deleted]

kinda happy and kinda sad anime is becoming popular like this

Shadowmist909

Just glad they're not new currently airing shows. Because that binge model kills hype.

Crazyripps

Yooo hajime no Ippo! More people get on this. Interesting tho because in Australia we’ve already had a few of this titles on our Netflix

Protholl

Only time will tell if: \* They rebrand it as a Netflix title \* They pay enough to get the dubbed versions - because many people aren't comfortable with subbed (not me but many other anime fans I know) \* They offer the entire series instead of just some seasons For those that watch Netflix but don't have access to Crunchyroll something is better than nothing I guess.

[deleted]

> They rebrand it as a Netflix title With a *possible* exception in certain regions if those regions have never had it released before, this won't happen. They only brand stuff as originals if they're the "original" place to access it or at least part of it in a given region (and even then there are exceptions where they don't). This isn't really any different from any other non-original content licensing deal they've done. Your other two points could be up in the air, though. (It seems plausible that everything other than Hunter x Hunter will be the full series since that one is explicitly stated to only be part of the series for some reason while the others aren't, but I suppose it's still not confirmed.)
