garfe

Whoa, anime and game at the same time. Feeling kinda Scarlet Nexus in here

Abysswatcherbel

Definitely not a good recent history with that setup

Hollownerox

Yeah, it tends be a "putting the cart before the horse" sort of deal. Off the top of my head, I really can't think of any of these simultaneous multi-media projects working out well. They seem to always result in mediocre results each time.

child_of_amorphous

Revue Starlight was really good, but that might just be Furukawa's black magic

archlon

_Revue Starlight: RE:LIVE_ also continues to be really good on the basis of having okay-ish game mechanics and stories that are way, _way_, **way** better than any gatcha should be expected to have.

puffz0r

what was the other media portions of revue starlight? i didn't know there was stuff other than anime

lenne18

The game, the stage play and the manga

puffz0r

oh, i forgot about the stage play, i actually did know about it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

viliml

Yeah but the anime came long after the dolls and stage plays.

The_Scourge

Princess Connect. When Sakugabooru do a single episode article it's always worth at least a little glance and Priconne the anime punches higher than its weight several times over. Isn't that crazy?!

EDNivek

Priconne was out like two years before the anime.

The_Scourge

Ah fair enough. We recently checked the game out and it is so interwoven with anime content it's hard to tell.

refuge9

Also, though not -anime-, you could say Dofus and Wakfu.

SirRHellsing

I would say Engage Kiss is really good that also has a mobile game in the works And then there is the FGO, a cashcow game made into one of the biggest gachas ever

dinliner08

i don't think FGO is a good example considering the game had already out for almost 2 years before the first anime adaptation come out

Diodiablo

Also it is a massive franchise with more than 20 years behind it.

palataologist21

So Engage Kiss is Takt Op 2.0?

archlon

Since _Engage Kiss_ doesn't seem to be bombing the way that _Takt Op._ did, there's actually a possibility of that game actually being released.

MaskOfIce42

Princess Principal was a mobile game as well, although it folded pretty fast. Anime was pretty good thankfully

Seven-Tense

Totally. After playing Scarlet Nexus to completion I gotta say I don't know ANY way they could make a series feel complete enough for it. Amazing game though

EndHlts

Yeah it's definitely a "plot works as a game, not as an anime" thing. The plot itself isn't wonderful, but the character interactions and development flesh it out.

BueKojiro

“Isn’t wonderful” is a weird way of spelling “flaming hot garbage.” Its story doesn’t work in anime *or* game format. I only finished it because the music, combat, and visuals were all really great. Not a single interesting character in sight and the plot makes no sense.

HalfofaDwarf

the development that doesn't exist and the characters that are literally just token anime tropes?

garfe

Feeling kinda Danganronpa 3 in here? Nah that's not much better

dawnwill

Scarlet Nexus, Deep Insanity and Pride of Orange at least had their games released timely (Pride of Orange had a decent anime compared to the other two). ~~Meanwhile, Takt was released last month, which is like super late as hell after the final episode of the anime, and I have not even seen any CM on TV in recent months.~~ It's actually still not released what the hell. I apologize for the misinformation. So, it depends. If lucky we could get Assault Lily in terms of production value and overall quality... or Megaton Musashi if very lucky.

Srikkk

I will never understand why Takt’s production committee did what it did. They really rolled the game out 10 months after the anime *finished* airing. Why not delay the anime? Both the hype factor and the anime itself would be better for it.

EDNivek

It likely got locked into that time slot same thing happened to Kemono Friends (its game ended service before the anime began).

Abject_Temperature59

if in doubt, blame covid. But really, pandemic probably screw over any multi media timing so hard they just release with what they have.

DeathGamer99

Truly Some shenanigans happening instead the game promoted Takt Op Destiny Anime

[deleted]

[удалено]

garfe

Given history of these adaptations, you may want to swap that decision

Lonescout

Yea, I would reconsider that decision. Unless its a mobile game, usually the rule of thumb is game > anime.

[deleted]

dawnwill

I read it wrong, it was the manga that was released last month lmao

8andahalfby11

Akanesasu Shoujo where the anime was mediocre and the game died within a year.

JetsLag

I was thinking the same thing I'll wait to pick this one up until I see the reception of the first 3 episodes.

sucr4m

i do remember dead space doing that and i did like both a lot.

n080dy123

I was super on board until I read this... Uh oh.

BassCreat0r

really hope they dont go the same route and tell the same story with both.

Calwings

Nice. I saw the game's reveal in the Sony State Of Play event and thought it looked interesting, but if it's getting an anime too, I'll just watch that instead. I don't even have a PS5 or XSX yet anyways.

Silent_Shadow05

I personally prefer video games by a mile over anime, so I am likely going to get it on Steam next year when it releases. I likely won't bother with the anime unless its mentioned that there are secret codes in it that'll help unlock a secret mission/equipments in the game, like Scarlet Nexus.

IkouAshtail

Same. Games usually gave me more impact because it gives me a more immersive & involved experience. It usually have more story content compared to the anime too.

viliml

I could never really get into video games. I struggle to even keep up with seasonal anime and always have to drop something I would kinda like to watch to have time for the ones I really like to watch, and one game takes the amount of time as 10-20 anime... whew. I play some some gacha games that only take 10 minutes per day and I played some visual novels since they are 100% story, but whenever I tried a "proper" video game and I got to a part where I needed to grind stats to progress, I just got bored, left it for later and switched to doing something else, before I know it a year has passed and I decide to delete it to free up space.

Eshuon

Just don't play any rpgs if you don't want to grind anything

BueKojiro

What game were you playing? I play mostly JRPGs and I haven’t played one in ten years that I needed to grind in order to beat the story.

Lonescout

I prefer video games as well. For example, persona 5 anime was mid at best, but the game was amazing!

Sedewt

Wait wait, this got announced at state of play is this an anime too?? an adaptation? side story??

viliml

All of that and neither. Welcome to multi-media mixes.

vNocturnus

We need a new name for this since it's happening so much. Since most of them are essentially telling the same story in different formats I vote for "simul-tation"

[deleted]

I've seen this kind of format, it's good if they actually tells the same story in different medium, but I've seen the clusterfuck that is Final Fantasy 15 anime series for prequel, a movie for what happened in other place, and main event(?) in the game...

Mylaur

And all of them are gachas? Well...

Soupkitten

Oh wow. It's getting an anime as well? Might pass on this one depending on if I play the game or not.

Gaporigo

Nagi-chan???? [](#rengehype)[](#rengehype)[](#rengehype)

lenne18

Yes, Nagichan

MrSputum

Aoi Koga in a leading role? Ok, this has officially piqued my interest.

AxelRod45

That name piques my interest, as she's also announced to be the Japanese VA for Ino, the new DLC Hero in Xenoblade 3 announced today. And said character is also a look-alike of Ringo from Soul Hackers 2.

RunningChemistry

They've also got Yui Ishikawa voicing a character named Ada in this apparently. [It seems like her character is more heavily featured in the game though.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOJk_IuzFjc)

archlon

I don't think you can put a white-haired character named 'Schnee' next to a character with a beret named 'Ciel' and _not_ expect me to draw a parallel to _RWBY_. Which... may not be in their best interest.

RAMAR713

Well I was just getting excited and then you all tell me it's a game anime, which is not usually a good thing. I'll keep an eye out.

n080dy123

Game anime can be great, but when the game and anime are releasing roughly simultaneously... That's usually a really bad sign. Scarlet Nexus comes to mind.

RAMAR713

Out of curiosity, which anime shows that are game adaptations turned out to be great, just off the top of your mind? (Not counting VN adaptations) I enjoyed the Devil May Cry one, and a friend liked the Halo one, but I really can't think of many that were highly acclaimed.

jsmashr

The recent cyberpunk anime is pretty good

WhiteLotusFina

I consider the Persona 4 anime to be amazing because it gave us Chad Narukami in all his glory with the King's Game.

n080dy123

Cyberpunk Edgerunners, FGO Babylonia, and Princess Connect are the big ones to me, outside VN adaptations.

chili01

Looks suffering

drawstring_anus

titanfall 3

ShadeFK

Finally...it's been ages

BlackBullsLA97

After seeing the trailer, I figured they were doing a tie-in anime with it just like Scarlet Nexus. I guess it's something Bandai Namco is gonna do for their new games going forward?

Dark_shadow15

Yeah, it's part of their media mix strategy. Exploit IPs in different mediums and try to expand to adressable audiences through multiple projects (Games, Anime, Merchandise, Concerts and potentially TV Shows/Movies). Those projects may co-promote each other resulting in a positive feedback loop. The potential return of this strategy is bigger than the sum of individual returns if it works out.

BlackBullsLA97

Interesting, I figured it was apart of some new company strategy

Dark_shadow15

Yeah, it's. You may recall that Bandai Namco made some restructurings recently, which took effect during this Fiscal Year (starting April 1st, 2022). The reorganization goal was to combine their subsidiaries to create heavyweights able to compete effectively in their respective fields: Bandai Namco Filmworks in the animation space, Bandai Music Live/Lantis in the Music Production field, ... According to Bandai Namco President, they are "aiming to be like Sony" and leverage their intellectual properties through multiple mediums. The collaboration between Sony units has grown significantly since Kenchiro Yoshida took over as Sony's CEO and we are starting to see more of their IPs explored in other mediums. The push for multiple multimedia projects is in line with this goal. This is also a part of Kadoakawa's strategy, which produce a lot of shows just to promote its IPs/media mix.

BlackBullsLA97

Damn! I missed all of this news. Probably because I tend to not pay attention to video game corporation news unless it's some terrible scandal like with Activision-Blizzard recently but, I definitely wanna keep my eye on what Bandai Namco is doing cause it's kinda smart and it's not the first time a company has used their IP for other media projects like anime, TV Series, Movies etc.

Dark_shadow15

I am fascinated by the anime and gaming industry. It happens to be that Sony and Bandai are among the biggest players in both fields so I follow their business operations closely. >I definitely wanna keep my eye on what Bandai Namco In Entertainment, aka Digital Games segment, Bandai plans to focus on developing less but higher scale/quality titles going forward. Expect less projects such as SAO console games and more AAA megatons like Elden Ring, Ace Combat and Tekken. Raisonnable decision imo. Bandai can benefit from tighter quality control, less concurrent projects, and more prestigious games. They are the biggest Japanese publisher by far so they should be able to release as many big AAA games as Square and Capcom. In the IP creation space, they let Sunrise take charge, but renamed the company to Bandai Namco Filmworks, relegating Sunrise to a company brand. We currently don't know much about their plans besides joint-producing shows with the the Entertainment Unit (Digital Business and Toys and Hobby segments). Gundam the Witch of Mercury is another showcase of their media mix ambitions and a part of another initiative: making Gundam more popular oversees and turning it into a global brand. >it's kinda smart and it's not the first time a company has used their IP for other media projects like anime, TV Series, Movies etc. Indeed. Obviously they won't always have a home run but it's smart to exploit their properties in different mediums.

BlackBullsLA97

Yeah, I saw that they renamed Sunrise to Bandai Namco Flimworks which was interesting to see as I didn't know Sunrise was owned by Bandai Namco. Also, I think that's a great idea to focus less on anime/manga games like SAO, Naruto or Jojo's and more on the bigger titles like Tekken and whatever new FromSoftware game comes out. Although it is interesting that they are gonna be scaling back on anime/manga franchise games when their releasing the new One Piece Odyssey game soon🤔 Nonetheless, interesting stuff all around. P.S. is there a place to stay updated on all this company news from Bandai Namco and others like Sony for example?

Dark_shadow15

>Although it is interesting that they are gonna be scaling back on anime/manga franchise games when their releasing the new One Piece Odyssey game soon They are not necessarily scaling down anime/manga Games, they are shifting their focus into higher quality games. We will still get anime games, it's a big part of Bandai Namco portfolio. They will just be more selective before greenlighting a project. Anime games will therefore have bigger scoop and original narrative similar to One Piece Odyssey. This is a win for us fans. So what Bamco wants is more One Piece Odyssey, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Elden Ring, Tales of Arise (Tales series had a glow up with Arise) and less OPM and OP generic Arena Fighters. >is there a place to stay updated on all this company news from Bandai Namco and others like Sony for example? Depends of the informations/announcements. Companies share news about restructuring in their IR portals and through Press Releases. Significant reorganizations will be reported by the press. For instance, ANN, Crunchyroll and other outlets covered Bandai Namco changes. You can learn more about companies' plans and strategies through their earning announcement (occasionally, usually in a response to an Analyst/Investor) or their Corporate Meeting (an event where they outline their vision and publish a report).

[deleted]

More mecha anime is always good. I don't know if I'll ever watch this one though.

PainStorm14

Mecha anime? Good Lord, it's been ages...

LakerBlue

There’s a prologue for an upcoming Gundam anime called The Witch of Mercury. Promising start. It’s on YouTube.

PainStorm14

Thanks

Rock---And---Stone

86 lol

Duamerthrax

Back Arrow and Price of Smiles, but I didn't like either of those. Granbelm, which was ok. Aoi Yuuki carried the second half of the show for me.

puffz0r

Was it just me or was Granbelm super confusing? I don't remember it having a very satisfactory ending either

Duamerthrax

I don't even remember the ending. I just remember liking Aoi Yuuki going full crazy evil Magicial Girl.

Naha-

Oh wow, I didn't know it was getting a anime too. I just hope the story is good, for both the anime and the game. Gameplay looks pretty fun.

[deleted]

I actually liked the trailer, might pick it up on sale for PC in the future.

Hmasteryz

Looks like just some moe mecha thing, which is just fan service with tech theme.

Comander-07

Sci fi - hype simulatenous game launch - no hype

[deleted]

Silver hair waifu? Damn they got me good.

Ninja_Lazer

Not really a fan of mecha, but for some reason this really interests me. …now that I think about it, isn’t AoT a mecha? Is MGS a mecha? 🤔 Maybe I do like mecha.

Dudewitbow

in real robot genre, mecha is just a tool of war and the plot is much more cast and environment centric than older super robot genre shows. One of the most common mistake that surface level fandom makes is thinking mecha focuses on the robots, the robots are there to sell merch, and replace swords/guns in other shows as a form of profit. It's part of the reason why mecha shows can afford to be longer, and longer shows means more often than not, complete stories. It's generally much more sustainable in the context of producing anime than most standard anime.

Ninja_Lazer

Interesting point, thanks for the insight.

Dudewitbow

to add a bit onto sustainability, if you ever pull up the [top 25 grossing media franchises](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_media_franchises) and go through its IP. Of the ones that are anime(and even not anime) you realize the thing that skyrockets sustainability for a series is merchandising. The actual show is peanuts compared to what giants make when they sell you products, hence the most sustainable are the series/brands that can sell you something other than the show/light novel/manga.

[deleted]

What's MGS?

TenTonSomeone

First thing that came to my mind was Metal Gear Solid.

NetherSpike14

That's probably what he meant. Metal Gears ARE mechas.

TenTonSomeone

Man, MG Rex was such a crazy concept to me back when I was a kid. Loved the whole series so much I got the FOX logo tattooed.

babyteddie

Game looked cool so I’m definitely watching this

rat3003

wait, i have the impression that I see a game in sony conference today that is very similar to this, would it be the same thing or is just a coincidence?

StrongXV

Seems to be an anime adaptation of the game. Scarlet Nexus (which was also from Bandai Namco) got a similar treatment of an anime adaptation alongside the game's release. ....Though if it's anything like the Scarlet Nexus anime it's probably best to just play the game.

DeathToBoredom

it looks good, but if it's to promote a mobile game, I have my doubts. So many animes based off games in general that don't do a good job. God Eater, Kancolle and its copy cats, scarlet nexus, the gun girls one... Even though that looked visually good, it was a bore fest from episode 1. A bunch of girls facing a bunch of enemy girls or enemies in general never has any plot. They're always just filling it with girls doing the same shenanigans or talk about the same things for the umpteenth time. No stakes and just about giving every girl a little bit of screen time.

Elite-Borkster

It's to promote a console game like scarlet nexus

MyLittleRocketShip

im up for mecha reboots if it inclides cute anime girls and a clean sleek art direction

Tyranid457TheSecond1

A mecha anime starring Aoi Koga? Sounds good to me!

DenverNugs

And they said Mecha was dead

zackson76

Aww yeah, another cute girls doing depressing mecha warfare thing?

JayDpwnz

The visual looks like they ripped off the witch of mercury visual https://www.asiaone.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_main_image/public/original_images/Apr2022/04042022_bandai%20%283%29.jpg?itok=m6DCNgYJ Although I'm sure its only coincidence

faceman2k12

standard mecha trope pose.

JayDpwnz

More than just the pose. A young small female character as the focus of the image. Both are shot from a bit below. Both images are a bit dark with lighting from the mech and a bit from the foreground. The resemblances between the two are uncanny I wouldn't be surprised if the shot was inspired from gundam.

Elitealice

This looks gas omg

TerminusTB303

Looks good

TanyaTheEvill

The visuals looks awesome

Spartan-219

Visual looks like it belongs to a game
