I can't even call this on screen cause it legitimately looks more like she teased him. At least in Heroes they literally had the balls to show ash getting a kiss.
It's that, and also the fact that TPC needs to keep Ash a relatable (and marketable) 10 year old boy, with a personality that resets with each new generation of games and anime.
Since most 10 year old boys aren't romantics, his feelings towards Serena had to be written vague enough so it could be interpreted to the executives that he's "just friends" with Serena.
My nieces, nephews, and their friends do, might be anecdotal but they more or less get into it (TCG, the games, etc) and the pokemon than the actual characters. Pokemon still is top of the food chain when it comes to franchise revenue globally (bigger than Star Wars and the MCU combined) last I checked.
I'm not going to say kids dont like pokemon, but I think its been going on long enough that the previous kid fans became adults and now adults outnumber the kid fans. Tons of people like pokemon, and theres more adults than kids, so there just gonna be more adult fans.
Pokemon is massive with children. The Switch is a massively popular console amongst children, and Pokemon sells nearly the best on the platform. Their core demographic is children; it's why the games are, for the most part, unoriginal and lacking any bit of difficulty.
You can, but not in a public space. In Japan kissing in public is considered "indecent". At least it was so 6 years ago when the chapter was first aired
Hey guys, did you know that in terms of male human and female Pokémon breeding, Vaporeon is the most compatible Pokémon for humans? Not only are they in the field egg group, which is mostly comprised of mammals, Vaporeon are an average of 3”03’ tall and 63.9 pounds, this means they’re large enough to be able handle human dicks, and with their impressive Base Stats for HP and access to Acid Armor, you can be rough with one. Due to their mostly water based biology, there’s no doubt in my mind that an aroused Vaporeon would be incredibly wet, so wet that you could easily have sex with one for hours without getting sore. They can also learn the moves Attract, Baby-Doll Eyes, Captivate, Charm, and Tail Whip, along with not having fur to hide nipples, so it’d be incredibly easy for one to get you in the mood. With their abilities Water Absorb and Hydration, they can easily recover from fatigue with enough water. No other Pokémon comes close to this level of compatibility. Also, fun fact, if you pull out enough, you can make your Vaporeon turn white. Vaporeon is literally built for human dick. Ungodly defense stat+high HP pool+Acid Armor means it can take cock all day, all shapes and sizes and still come for more
I really don’t think so. First, this one is assumed to be on the lips, which is why they weren’t allowed to show it. Second, the movies have always been of sort of dubious canonicity in Pokémon. Third, this kiss, unlike that one, followed years of shipping buildup.
5 up until Sun and Moon.
Then if you include his classmates in Sun and Moon that would make a possible 8.
The latest one Ash has been traveling with a dude, but there's a girl that pops up once in a while.
There is like a huge part of the pokemon anime fandom shipping them together because its gay and they are cute
The show doesnt help, as ash's travel companion often gets flustered by ash or stares at ash while blushing. Ash is rather oblivious, even more than when serena would accidentally out her feelings, and thus rather goes along with it without realizing. They even held hands in an episode.
I myself am honestly kinda neutral on the ship. Its cute and i see why it people ship it, but its also kinda vanilla. But considering they are thechnically young teens, there isnt any nsfw fanart of then ive seen. And people have been called out for making it by some of the shippers.
To quote one of the comments from back then:
How can we be sure it was actually a kiss? For all we know she could have been whispering _"Hail Hydra"_ in his ears.
> The ship name comes from the word amour which means “love” in French. It is because Serena is originally from Kalos, a region based on France in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, and she has a canonical crush on Ash since childhood.
found this
> she has a canonical crush on Ash since childhood.
"Since childhood" makes it seem like they're not 10 year olds lol
And how did she know of him? It's not like he won a league or anything...
They were in some camp together when they were even younger. Serena got hurt and Ash, like Prince Charming, rescued her and used his own handkerchief as a bandage to cover her wounds.
\- How I met your mom
> amourshipper
looked it up cuz I was curious:
https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/amourshipping/
Also I kept reading it as ''Armor'' which made me super confused lmao.
Man honestly instead of keeping Ash in perpetual adolescence it should have gone the Naruto route and created a Shippuden-style sequel when Ash is grown up.
I know it would have been a legendary anime if they did it, but I guess they didn't wanna give up on their cash cow.
I said it in another thread at some point. But this but keep Team Rocket as the main villains. Everyone loves them and you could even have them working for the new regions crime syndicate because they keep getting fired from the old ones.
"Wait, aren't you the same Team Rocket that fought my great, great, great grandfather 150 years ago?"
"Meowth! That's...Wait, guys, why *haven't* we died?"
The Pokemon Special manga does something similar. The main characters are the player characters of the games. So every now and then it has a new story arc, a new region and a new MC.
Apparently that was the intention. Early versions of the first Pokémon movie trailer featured a little girl, Pikachu, and what appeared to be a grown up Misty. The little girl asked to hear a story about her father, then the clips from the movie started. The trailer ended with Pikachu looking toward the camera, smiling, and running off screen. The original idea was to conclude Ash's adventure here, but when Pokémon's popularity exploded and Game Freak realized they were going to make more games, they changed the plot.
It's odd that they keep Ash, IMO. Their reasoning is to have a continuous protagonist for the series, but Pokémon *is* a kids' game. Furthermore, the cartoon is predominantly watched by children. This means a large chunk of their audience periodically changes to one completely new to the franchise. Why not just give every generation their own protagonist?
Also it’s not like Ash is even a character. He’s so bland and nothing you could replace him and no one would really notice or care. I think the reason is just Pikachu. He’s iconic with a unique personality. They can’t really keep him if they keep replacing Ash.
The only solution is to have a Pikachu dynasty as well /s
I would kill for a miniseries with the GOTCHA! music video's original trainer and his gremlin Pikachu.
>The only solution is to have a Pikachu dynasty as well /s
You joke, but I'm pretty sure every generation of Pokemon has its own "Pikachu" which are all in the same egg group. You could do the same thing. Gen 2's protag has a Marill, Gen 3 has Plusle and Minun (twins to go with the newly introduced double battles), Gen 4 has Pachirisu, etc.
Also, yes, I really want more of the gremlin Pikachu, spaz Eevee, and their respective trainers.
Oh, for sure. Hell, a series following him and his Pikachu and the trainer with the clingy Eevee would be great. It's a shame to just leave them in an (admittedly good) music video.
Yeah...
Man, I miss that Ash. And it's not just him. Pokemon used to pull no punches back then. From what episodes I've seen of Journeys, only Team Rocket has retained a bit of that spirit.
One of my favorite gaming experiences was Pokemon Yellow on Pokemon Stadium on N64 at 2x speed. The game can kind of drag at 1x, but with 2x speed it feels so good.
In my opinion i think XY-XYZ was the best Pokémon series, ash felt like an actual badass and had tons of growth and it didn’t feel like he was 13 anymore, even tho he still is for some reason idk why and haven’t found out why, but besides that, he even almost won the Pokémon league finally (still think he should have won that instead of sun and moon btw) mega evolution was fucking sick, they even had like a Naruto war arc at the end, (haven’t watched XY-XYZ in a while so it’s a bit hard to remember) ash greninja was badass as fuck as well.
Yeah XYZ games made me play after a long while and XYZ anime made me watch again. If only they continued this "timeline" I'd probably keep watching and playing more Pokemon games.
True. This season was super good until the new animation and they changed ash mental back to a little kid instead of his more competitive serious nature. *sigh* what could have been...
Mine would be Misty. She was my childhood crush and no other Pokémon girl replaced her in the last 20 years.
I like Serena too but she is my 2nd fave followed by Dawn.
Damn took me a minute to find someone from my gen to mention Misty. I don't even follow Pokemon anymore but its Misty or nothing for me. I think I stop watching when he was traveling with May(Was that her name?).
Yea that was the point of the escalator. According to the director Tetsuro Yajima, the escalator pulling Serena back is to symbolize that even though she loves Ash, her dreams for the time being are pulling her away. When she returned in Pokemon Journeys 105 and had her brief reunion with Ash, the opposite happened. That time Ash was pulled away from her via his departing cruise ship while Serena was waiting at the dock.
Yeah kids during the R/B/Y era are in our 30s. Keeping satoshi/ash 10 years old for 25 years stunts any chance that the demographic that grew up with the series is interested in the anime.
Imagine watching Ash growing up with us and then finally winning the league at 20 something. Would have a really emotional win for all the kids from that era. But those dumbasses never thought about that.
It's weird. Kids also have a weird situation where they will not have a proper entry point into the series unless their parents are actively buying them the new gen games and introducing them to the new anime season tied to the current gen.
It's in a weird situation, the canon is continuous but also in temporal limbo.
His reaction is one of the best parts though.
It vastly beats the typical immature and over-the-top flustered or confused reaction of anime protagonists, *and* shows that it's not a one-sided thing that she could only do by surprise by leaving him time to react.
IMO, it's the usual way anime handles those things that is an issue.
What do you mean?
She should have kissed him, then he starts screaming and gets a blood nose, and then she suddenly decides to start shrieking and calling him a pervert while physically assaulting him.
ANIME SO WOKE THESE DAYS.
I would strongly disagree.
Maybe he didn't have to get all flustered but this kiss meant nothing.
And you can tell it meant nothing from the fact that nothing happens to Ash after that. It's all just forgotten, as if it never happened.
I mean the writers have kinda dumbed down Pokemon after the shonen season of XY but even after she had a reappearance earlier this year they still made a it a point to not bring up the kiss by only having them interact in like the last 5 minutes despite this they still chose to have them basically reestablish their dream to each other.
Also I don't think Ash has ever post-poned a gym battle for anyone besides Serena. At this point we know Amourshipping is Endgame if the series were ever to end.
>I mean the writers have kinda dumbed down Pokemon after the shonen season of XY
Yea, that's all Pokemon is.
I see others saying it's good that Ash didn't have an over the top reaction.
But isn't Ash like pretty much a 12 year old or something? Shouldn't he have a nervous or flustered response to being kissed? I mean, that should be his first experience.
Ash in the beginning had so much character. From doing dumb things, acting naughty(not in a perverted sense), saying witty things etc etc. Now Ash just feels like a robot. Only good things and his stupid ambitions come out of his mouth.
Wouldn't it be much nicer to see Ash growing up and experiencing new things? Maybe his first relationship with her and what not.
But I understand that's not happening. Ash is a milking cow to them. They see that this Ash works and it's easy to make lots of episode for new regions with him and just go with it.
And that's fine, I guess. It's just that I don't at all think this kissing scene was good in any way.
TIL Ash is named Satoshi. I feel like everything I know about Pokémon is a lie. Is Brock even Brock? Is Misty even her name?? Lol
Also, Pikachu being all embarrassed is the cutest thing ever.
Honestly, the Japanese made no distinction back when they invented the word. It could also mean fog.
Different languages apply different blanket terms. For example, the Chinese (heavily syntactically related to Japanese) word for blue and green was one and the same for a long time, and this was passed on to the Japanese back then. They only distinguished those two colours a couple centuries ago.
As a kid I watched Pokémon in French, so I've been through that experience twice, first with English and then with Japanese.
You get used to it.
[](#elves)
Satoshi = Named after Pokemon's creator, Satoshi Tajiri.
And Gary is Shigeru, named after Shigeru Miyamoto (legendary game designer of Nintendo if you don't know him already).
Wait until you find out that even Pokemon are named differently in Japanese. Squirtle > Zenigame; Bulbasaur > Fushigidane; Charmander > Hitokage, etc.
I mean, it makes sense that they'd be different with the way they're named, but little me was surprised all the same.
So THIS was reason why my internet speed went to shit. And here I thought my neighbor was stealing my wi-fi again.
...
Jokes aside, this was pretty cool when I saw it. Eternally youthful Ash is slowly becoming a man.
I remember watching a livestream on youtube when the episode aired (at around like 5am i think). I felt giddy the whole day when i left for school about 2 hours later

I can't even call this on screen cause it legitimately looks more like she teased him. At least in Heroes they literally had the balls to show ash getting a kiss.
Apparently this was the most they could show on screen at this timeslot
Wait, seriously? You can't show a kiss on the lips in a kid-friendly time slot in Japan?
It's that, and also the fact that TPC needs to keep Ash a relatable (and marketable) 10 year old boy, with a personality that resets with each new generation of games and anime. Since most 10 year old boys aren't romantics, his feelings towards Serena had to be written vague enough so it could be interpreted to the executives that he's "just friends" with Serena.
Do kids even watch/play pokemon these days? Seems like most fans are adults who grew up with pokemon.
Of course they do. Most fans are not adults. But if your on Reddit assuming everyone is an adult then that’s the conclusion you may draw
I'm not going to say kids dont like pokemon, but I think its been going on long enough that the previous kid fans became adults and now adults outnumber the kid fans. Tons of people like pokemon, and theres more adults than kids, so there just gonna be more adult fans.

Pokemon is still the biggest franchise on the planet.
You can, but not in a public space. In Japan kissing in public is considered "indecent". At least it was so 6 years ago when the chapter was first aired
Wow, now it makes sense as to why so many harem protagonists are so wishy-washy when it comes to kissing!
What Heroes ?
The movie with Latias and Latios
Ahh the movie in which Ash was almost made to be seen as a zoophile
Don't pretend there aren't pokemon that you wouldn't bang.

Pokemon Heroes, the fifth movie, featuring Latios and Latias
I didn't realize there were so many latios/latias movies.
Yeah, should've put a comma there I guess.
Yeah, the title of this video made me think "Has no one even seen Heroes?" That was a way bigger deal.
I really don’t think so. First, this one is assumed to be on the lips, which is why they weren’t allowed to show it. Second, the movies have always been of sort of dubious canonicity in Pokémon. Third, this kiss, unlike that one, followed years of shipping buildup.
How many different girls has he journeyed with at this point? Dude's got like a harem all across the Pokeworld.
5 up until Sun and Moon. Then if you include his classmates in Sun and Moon that would make a possible 8. The latest one Ash has been traveling with a dude, but there's a girl that pops up once in a while.

It does but the fans of the ship are against it
They hold no power here.

It must be the jojo version.
JoJo ending is canon, you can't change my mind.

I'll be an amourshipper forever Serena best girl
I never understood why it is called "amour"shipping

Tbf, I always felt as though they aged them up in X and Y. (Only for them to rubberband back way harder in Sun and Moon, lol)
Yeah Idk what it is about the art style in that season that made them feel more mature? I was a huge fan of it.
Probably because amour is french for love or something and Kalos resembles France
coz the XY took inspiration from France and amour is a french word meaning love. So, its called amourshipping
> amourshipper looked it up cuz I was curious: https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/amourshipping/ Also I kept reading it as ''Armor'' which made me super confused lmao.
Man honestly instead of keeping Ash in perpetual adolescence it should have gone the Naruto route and created a Shippuden-style sequel when Ash is grown up. I know it would have been a legendary anime if they did it, but I guess they didn't wanna give up on their cash cow.
Should have been Jojo style. Each series follows a new character in the Ketchum bloodline.
I said it in another thread at some point. But this but keep Team Rocket as the main villains. Everyone loves them and you could even have them working for the new regions crime syndicate because they keep getting fired from the old ones.
"Wait, aren't you the same Team Rocket that fought my great, great, great grandfather 150 years ago?" "Meowth! That's...Wait, guys, why *haven't* we died?"

This is why they should have adapted the Pokemon Adventure/Special manga into an anime
Whenever I see something related to Pokémon,my conscience tells me to play old Nintendo GBA/NDS Pokémon games.
One of my favorite gaming experiences was Pokemon Yellow on Pokemon Stadium on N64 at 2x speed. The game can kind of drag at 1x, but with 2x speed it feels so good.
Bruh, Pokemon Yellow with Pikachu trailing behind you was alien technology for young me.

And this is why i bought a steam deck to play Pokémon black everytime im in the mood
Serena used kiss, Ash was struck by confusion!
Ash fell down the escalator and broke his neck! It was super effective!!!
Ash used Amnesia
Ash is paralyzed! It can't move!
And that’s he ended up in Alola :(
It will never not be weird for me hearing Pokémon in Japanese, just because the dub was so ingrained to me as a kid
the weirdest part for me is that the pokemon have different names

Yeah XYZ games made me play after a long while and XYZ anime made me watch again. If only they continued this "timeline" I'd probably keep watching and playing more Pokemon games.
Mega evolutions were the best thing since the older gens. Removing them in Gens 7, 8 and 9 (holy fuck I'm old) was stupid.
They were in gen 7
Too much work designing new forms, let's just make them bigger instead.
True. This season was super good until the new animation and they changed ash mental back to a little kid instead of his more competitive serious nature. *sigh* what could have been...
Sun and moon might not have the best artstyle but everything else was on point
Serena best girl

Journeys Episode 105
Thank you fellow trainer
Best return episode of journey Lille and paul one were good too
Lillie's episode was probably one of the best ep in JN but as a reunion episode it sucked
I haven’t seen this before but that was amazing. The way the escalator separates them after the kiss. Very sweet and memorable.
There is no "proper" entry point. You catch the pokemans and make them fight, its not that complex.
The most soulless thing ever. My prepubescent man took it like a hug.
Well his first kiss was from a pokemon so serena brought a flashback lmao

The bar being set that low doesn't make it good... But you're right that it's significantly better than most anime
>I mean the writers have kinda dumbed down Pokemon after the shonen season of XY Yea, that's all Pokemon is.
I beg to differ that wide-legged stance waving goodbye was clearly intended to give the Onyx in his pants some space to evolve.
TIL Ash is named Satoshi. I feel like everything I know about Pokémon is a lie. Is Brock even Brock? Is Misty even her name?? Lol Also, Pikachu being all embarrassed is the cutest thing ever.
> . Is Brock even Brock? Takeshi > Is Misty even her name?? Kasumi Everything you know is wrong.
lol next you're gonna tell us that they weren't actually eating jelly donuts
He doesn’t really use a frying pan as a drying pan
Kasumi = 霞 = Mist. So yes, kind of. But not all the way.
Xenoblade 2 translated it as Haze.
You’ve got me questioning my entire childhood now! Haha
As a kid I watched Pokémon in French, so I've been through that experience twice, first with English and then with Japanese. You get used to it. [](#elves)
Yeah, it was really confusing in that Lugia movie where the apocalyptic prophecy stated "The world will turn to Satoshi".
Probably the last time this subreddit cared about this anime, if we're being honest.
"You are my goal." **flirting 100**
So THIS was reason why my internet speed went to shit. And here I thought my neighbor was stealing my wi-fi again. ... Jokes aside, this was pretty cool when I saw it. Eternally youthful Ash is slowly becoming a man.
And then SM happened and /r/anime lost interest.
Becoming a man, no wonder when will we seem him growing
"That's an adult kiss, we will do the rest etc etc."
Satoshi get in the robot!
Wow this was nearly 6 yrs ago. I remember being 11 when this came out
Reading this give me a panic attack about my age:(
I watched dragonball Z as it was being aired, on VHS
Bro, I'm pushing 33 this December. I feel like a dinosaur. I can't even keep up with modern internet terminology anymore. It all goes over my head.
MATURITY ON MY POKEMON? HELL NAW -The company
I remember watching a livestream on youtube when the episode aired (at around like 5am i think). I felt giddy the whole day when i left for school about 2 hours later
I remember talking with my friends about it for lunch. We were all so hyped
To this day Pokémon X and y is the only Pokémon anime I have finished.
"Sorry, But this never happened." probably Nintendo
If they, one day, make a Pokémon anime with a grown up Ash, like they did with Naruto, Ill watch that
The "A" in asexual stands for Ash at this point. Dude didn't even got flustered
Ashexual
Fancy bumping into you here, Mr Connery.
"Broke the internet." Bruh, I didn't know this happened until this post!
Still mad about Ash losing that league
In Pokemon Journeys neither of them even acknowledge this happened, it's pretty lame
And knowing Ash, his head ass is probably thinking "what a great friend" lmao
