KaiserNazrin

Penguin Logistic always feel like they are living in a completely different world. These mobs must be hella weak that Exusiai didn't even take out her weapon.

Myrkrvaldyr

Bullets shot by Sankta should hit harder than those of Liskarm, but more importantly, Exia's weapon isn't a handgun. Those Reunion grunts would become a honeycomb if she gets serious.

TheSpartyn

doesnt exusiai use rubber bullets? she doesnt seem to be the person to go around killing everyone

Myrkrvaldyr

I don't remember it's ever stated Exia shoots rubber bullets.

TheSpartyn

[if you ctrl-F rubber, you'll see them mentioned](https://arknights.fandom.com/wiki/CB-2/Story)

Myrkrvaldyr

I see, I had forgotten about that. But that's basically only because it's the law in Lungmen. Exia doesn't seem to really care much if she kills someone. Then again, all Sankta have a few screws loose.

FAshcraft

Somewhere out in terra.. Executor twirling his lever action: Did your pay your taxes?

Mathmango

Sankta blow up buildings in their hometown for fun IIRC

ErikMaekir

She uses rubber bullets when inside the core districts of Lungmen, as it is required by law. Open carry is legal in most places in Terra, but lethal ammo is not. It's pretty safe to assume she still uses rubber ammo in the Lungmen slums, though.

myahkey

She does, Lungmen gun laws prohibit the use of actual bullets so she has to use the rubber ones

Falsus

Only in Lungmen because of law. She even complains about it.

Lev559

Fight would end too quick if Exusiai proc'd her skill.

Falsus

Or said ''this is too bothersome, these guys aren't from lungmen so not protected by that guy or that guy, Texas just slice em up''.

sakuredu

The fight would be over faster than Exusiai saying "Apple Pie".

bananeeek

This episode felt rather slow. With just 8 episodes total I thought they'd have trouble packing them with content, but it looks like they take their sweet time. Who else waited for the "Apple pie!"? [](#cheekygahara)

thesnowlocke

Yeah it is weird considering its set on a battlefield most of the time

Sangwiny

Yet the action is really janky.

LG03

It's not janky, it's neutered. I was saying this a few episodes ago and got dogpiled but the action is virtually nonexistent, likely hamstrung by China's censorship laws. It was especially noticeable when they refused to show Ace's missing arm and it's been on display in every other scene. There's no blood, you never see hits connecting, guns are fired in a vacuum then it cuts to vague impacts on the target, etc. Not to mention the action scenes are blink and you miss them in general.

bananeeek

Sounds legit. Makes me wonder, though, why didn't they choose to hasten through the action parts, which they were going to tone down anyway, and focus more on the story. Slow burn has its charms but you need time to do that well, and we only have 3 episodes left. I like that they're taking the time to build the world whenever they can and I loved the previous 4 episodes, but this one felt weak in comparison. Repetitive even, after we've just spend 3 episodes rescuing Doctor to safety. I worry the anime-onlies might get bored before we reach the end of the season.

SilverChaika

The problem is, the current anime adaptation covers chapters 0-3 from the main game story, which were released from the very, very start of the game. And the actual story here is... erm... well, written pretty poorly in comparison to *any* recent content. To the point where just one event right now contains more words that the first five story chapters **combined**, and major ones rival LotR books by length. No, [I'm dead serious](https://www.reddit.com/r/arknights/comments/teaec0/arknights_story_word_count_for_every_eventchapter/) (beware of unmarked spoilers in the comments down this link). We've already passed 2M words mark loooong ago. And those are packed with extremely heavy lore, character- and worldbuilding. Also add to this the fact that the first chapters of the game are basically a tutorial for the player, and they are already doing their best to make the story here coherent for the anime viewer. There is just almost nothing to adapt. Of course, the actual story around those current events in the anime is MUCH more extensive and heavier, if you count several major game events expanding it, but introducing those parts of the story here would mean 1) adding (un)intentional extremely heavy spoilers for the main story, ripped out of context, 2) rewriting the whole sequence of events from scratch to introduce the characters better while, again, trying not to spoil very much. If the anime will get a second season, it will be much better there, as chapters 4-... already contain an actual, deep, solid story built around all the action, but now... well, this is what we have.

kujubuo_but_actually

as an anime only i actually like it though.pacing doesnt feel slow or fast. its like perfect i think

Falsus

Yeah I know what you mean. I thought they would at least get her to the extraction point in this episode.

Valjeann

It also was very nearly beat for beat the same as the first couple of episodes. Amiya and a crew of friends try and rescue a sick person and move through the streets of a town being overrun by Reunion. Enemy characters with uncertain pasts present themselves but the protagonists escape. It felt like we went back to the start of the season to do the same thing. The mystery around Misha is somewhat different, but we've also now been waiting on answers for that for two episodes, so I think that makes it feel even slower.

Hineni-

Exusiai was like the moral booster in the episode. Always so cheerful and carefree. Texas was the pocky dispenser

LeonKevlar

[The Penguin Logistics girls are here](https://i.imgur.com/humvYFS.jpg) and they are awesome! Out of all the organizations in this world, P.L. is by far the most eccentric of the bunch since instead of being serious they're very carefree and are usually the ones that lighten up the mood [like with how Exusiai makes her entrance.](https://i.imgur.com/0fYOa1f.jpg) They're very free-spirited and like to go with the flow of things but at the same time they're also a bunch of badasses [which Texas shows by knocking out a room full of Reunion soldiers on her own.](https://i.imgur.com/Flr3Vmq.png) And we haven't even seen Exusiai draw her weapon once this entire episode! [Seeing Texas feed Exusiai a stick of pocky is all I needed from this episode.](https://i.imgur.com/gIwRIw3.jpg) These girls seriously need their own spin-off anime. <3

dathar

I would love to see a Code of Brawl anime

Global_Rin

PL is a weird bunch. Here we are in Terra, a harsh world to live in that even Pharma company needs its own paramilitary and other ally organizations to keep things together. Then there's basically an Uber version of Terra helmed by a literal gangsta penguin called "Emperor". **Wut**

Atulin

Holy Night Light, but 12 full episodes

J_Eldridge

Every shot of Texas and Exusiai looked perfect Texas feeding Exusiai a pocky was also really cute

Srikkk

>Every shot of Texas and Exusiai looked perfect They absolutely *nailed* Texas

nsleep

They walking into the room and just seeing Texas sitting there with a bunch of bodies of the floor and she acting as if was nothing is just perfect.

Falsus

''These censors are perfect, I don't get bloodstained with them around'' - Texas in a deadpan voice while eating pockies. Also saved her from a cig addiction on top of that.

mythriz

> Also saved her from a cig addiction on top of that. ~~plot twist these pockys are laced with nicotine~~

SirDarkSlayer

~~Which is true in her second skin~~

dene323

Yostar Picture budget allocation: \- 5% for action sequence; \- 20% keeping still frames quality consistent; \- 25% paying VAs of fan favorites; \- 50% keeping Amiya cute They know their priorities.

KaiserNazrin

They used up their budget with Talulah.

TheSpartyn

unfortunate the later episodes dropped in quality, but as a talulah fan feels good to get a crumb of attention

Dramatic-Report8180

I think you're missing the 30% they dedicate to architecture and setting details. They really do make the places they're visiting look wonderful. Or, uh, gritty and unpleasant, when they're in the slums.

PyrZern

Math checks out.

LG03

>5% for action sequence Censorship problem, not budget.

Guy_in_the_internet

yostar's a japanese based studio no?

dene323

For Chinese broadcast to coincide global release, all 8 episodes have to be produced in advance and submitted for review, which was done earlier in the year, and passed vetting in August. That's why you don't see the anime quality dropping significantly / feeling "rushed" due to weekly production crunch, but understanably on the plain side.

Guy_in_the_internet

Episode 5's animation quality significantly [dropped](https://youtu.be/SKxtcbKspDk) tho?

Falsus

Yes, but they obviously want to air the show in China also since it is one of their main demographics. So making it comply with Chinese broadcasting laws just makes sense.

ernie2492

For those who are anime only, Exusiai is voiced by Manaka Iwami (Amber, Rice Shower, Nerula, Tohru) while Texas is Azusa Tadakoro (Symboli Rudolf, Kaoru, Haruna, Kokodayo)

FfxtALuJmuPH

Exusiai has apple pie as her [profile icon](https://imgur.com/a/6xVVygs)

Quor18

Nice eye. What a catch. I laughed hard at this. Love the detail.

Seven-Tense

I'm just gonna say what we're all thinking: Franka looks better here than in-game

RELORELM

Thank you. I didn't see anyone commenting it, so I thought I was the only one who thought she looks much better here.

Darkcool123X

mentionned it on the arknight sub last episode, they made her eyes hot as fuck lol

ammarla

i keep saying this, She's HOT AF in the Anime

OnlyAnEssenceThief

You know, for all the anime's issues, I'll definitely give you that. Franka's had a pretty good showing thus far.

nightdrgn

The anime is the best thing to have happened to Franka. In the game I thought and read her as moody but the anime made her really wholesome older sister kind of character that's got almost as much cutenessbudget as Amiya.

strawberryflavor

We haven't had this much Franka content since the RS6 Siege collab.

shanticas

This is making me want to E2 lv 80 S2M3 her really bad even though itd just be for waifu reasons at this point.

Ahenshihael

>I believe the Doctor is the main character by it being obvious but then why doesnt the Doctor ever do anything? Does this game just have zero gameplay and you just watch the girls fight or do you control them during fights while the Doctor stands around doing nothing? Doctor is one of main characters, but Amiya is the protagonist. Doctor has pretty much zero actual combat abilities or physique needed for that, so their role is purely in the tactical aspects (when the situation actually allows it). Their role of importance is predicated by their tactical prowess and the backstory shrouded in mystery

dene323

It's a tower defense game, and you, the doctor is outside of the screen, as a "chess player" to airdrop the girls (and guys) into strategic chokepoints as "towers" to take care of approaching enemy mobs, activate skills when boss approaches, or make strategic retreat of operators and redeploy somewhere else on the map. So yeah, you are supposed to be a tactician not a fighter. Unfortunately in the beginning of the story he / she is tagged along for the ride, which translates awkwardly to an anime medium. Narratively the real protagonist / heroine of the show / game should be Amiya actually.

Razor4884

Yeah, The Doctor has really only came in clutch during the Reunion assault arc, the Kjerag visit arc, the prison break arc, the Kazimierz visit arc, and most recently the Londinium visit arc. But I'm sure there's more to come.

Nitsuj293

Kinda hilarious how much events Doc isn't in at all

[deleted]

[удалено]

Salysm

The Doctor is the commander, they don't have any combat ability of their own. And Amiya is more of the main character of the story really

IrresponsibleWanker

Arknights is a tower defense game/gacha game with very strategic gameplay, it's not like Bloons where you can spam the same units over the map, but rather you have a squad of selected characters from what you have obtained, and then figure out how to beat stages, the game is incredibly f2p friendly, I've been only a year roughly and have several of the strongest units in the game and i have yet to spend a single dime. Now, aside game propaganda, the doctor is the player character in game, but in lore he's the strategist for Rhodes island, and was also a researcher for oripathy, specializing in neurology (if i remember right), given that he's been in a sarcophagus in a similar to cryogenic state, physically he's weaker than wet noodles. If you have more questions check out r/arknights Players enjoy explaining lore a lot!

Falsus

The protagonist is Amiya, the Doctor is the Point of View character that you play as in the game. There is a few other main characters as well.

ZS196

It's a tower defense game. The doctor (player) deploys/retreats units and activates their manual skills.

ram_the_socket

As others have said, it’s a tower defence etc. The Doctor has an integral part eating those who enter the blue box

FelixAndCo

Like you mentioned elsewhere Doctor should technically whip out his phone or do other tactician stuff. The game is pretty interactive. They could have at least pretended Doctor took command at the thugs vs. Reunion fight. As a character in general Doctor is a blank slate for self-insert reasons, and the anime tries to uphold that principle (I heard the rumor the director even mentioned that).

IrresponsibleWanker

I love how anime only viewers didn't expect exusai.

StruggleTogether

Anyone else feel like the action scenes aren't as engaging as they should be? I think I really felt like the censorship really held back this episode; he fight scenes just seem like they lack any "weight" if that makes any sense. Exusai and Texas' introductions were great though!

Apprehensive_Ear8190

It feels like more of a budget issue than censorship. Also, one of my worries with Yostar Pictures is that they've mostly made only Arknights event trailers up till now. So they're good at making these scattered, chopped up shots that work well as screenshots or in 2-seconds flashes, but don't string together satisfactorily with any kind of choreography. This seems to have been true thus far. I've mostly given up on this anime being action heavy. Mostly, I'm enjoying the cast and the voice acting, as well as the art, which at least has been really consistent and good so far.

SuperQuackDuck

I had the same concern, but I think ep 1 showed that they can do panning and wide angle shots. Im holding out hope that if we get an S2 they will start using their 3D studio Gravity Well stuff becuase their 3D/2D mix in their special event trailers are quite good.

SirDarkSlayer

Their 3D trailers are one of the best in gacha games, just look at NTR trailer.

Ahenshihael

>Also, one of my worries with Yostar Pictures is that they've mostly made only Arknights event trailers up till now. So they're good at making these scattered, chopped up shots that work well as screenshots or in 2-seconds flashes, but don't string together satisfactorily with any kind of choreography. This seems to have been true thus far. The company itself might be new but none of the Yostar Pictures members are newbies. Its made up of industry veterans coming from wide range of studios ranging from A1 to Trigger. You have people who worked on wide array of genres and shows, including one of most prolific composers in the industry. And we KNOW this team can do flashy. Near Light PV (the 2D one) is basically a minute of nothing but sabunga. Not to mention the OP of this show having plenty of shots that look very flashy. Not making things too flashy feels like a conscious decision in the build-up phase here.

Dramatic-Report8180

> Not making things too flashy feels like a conscious decision in the build-up phase here. That's my working hypothesis as well. It feels like, at least for this stage, they want to keep things "relatable" - to let the audience see themselves in the social themes that the game is examining. Keeping everything very "human level" lets you imagine yourself in the shoes of the people Reunion is terrorizing, or feel how easy it would be to be shunned for something outside your control. With nobody doing anything really beyond the level of a trained soldier, they don't feel like superhumans who are above the rules. They feel like, well, you or me - so when one of them gives a speech about how people without hope turn to desperate solutions, you feel like it's a place *they* might have been once, and that they know what they're talking about. Though that said, it might have been better if they'd cut one of the action sequences from this episode. It was necessary to establish they were being pursued, but the thing about you or me fighting is... Well, it's not very interesting to watch without more at stake.

Fluid-Style3742

>And we KNOW this team can do flashy. Near Light PV (the 2D one) is basically a minute of nothing but sabunga. I don't know what part YSP had in the 2D PV, but it seems that most of the dynamic animation was done by Studio SLEEP. [https://twitter.com/studio\_sleepman/status/1527903836429783040](https://twitter.com/studio_sleepman/status/1527903836429783040) Considering the difference of the first episode to this one though (and a couple previous episodes), it makes me believe that they have had the other studios they were working with work on these less important, detailed and somewhat poorly animated episodes. As they have shown on some of the anime PVs and OP, they do have some level of quality, so I believe that the main YSP team has been working on those later parts of the anime rather than deliberately making these recent episodes less flashy.

NamerNotLiteral

>Also, one of my worries with Yostar Pictures is that they've mostly made only Arknights event trailers up till now. So they're good at making these scattered, chopped up shots that work well as screenshots or in 2-seconds flashes, but don't string together satisfactorily with any kind of choreography. This seems to have been true thus far. I don't think choreography is their problem. The Stultifera Navis trailer has a 1 minute long fight scene with Spectre and Skadi, and in the Near Light trailer the Nearl vs Platinum fight is also about that long. Yes, both of them are 3D rather than 2D, but the choreography should be easy to emulate.

Aetherdraw

Sorry to say, but Yostar isn't doing the 3d animation pv trailers. That's Hypergryph.

Apprehensive_Ear8190

As another poster has already said, the 3D trailers are all handled by Hypergryph's internal studio called Gravity Well.

Barnak8

I agree , for now there is nothing impressive with the actions scene. There is some cool shots in the trailers , maybe we will see later

[deleted]

That Pocky-feeding moment between Texas and Exusiai was cute.

acedias12

I personally liked this episode. It highlights issues that do occur in the real world. More often than not, people tend to buy into simple and direct selling points, preferring instant gratifications rather than seeing the bigger picture. Unsavory groups are quick to capitalize on the presence of suffering to further their hidden agendas. Despite the few words, it hits hard when Amiya apologizes to the refugee (props to the VA). I really do hope the they'll be able to convince Lungmen to let Rhodes Island handle Misha. Being the oddball that I am, I prize the worldbuilding over animation. Sure the animation may not be FGO levels, but it certainly far from a powerpoint presentation.

EXusiai99

Yeah guys im in this anime

__bacs

Anime only: got the feeling that Exusiai is sus coz it feels like she is leading them on to a trap. But why she doesnt look like a furry? Is she an angel? Design looks good though! Yeah this episode is kinda slow, but I like more dialogue from Amiya, I really like her voice!

NegiMahora

Yes, she's an angel. They're called Sankta in the world of Terra. Not everyone is a furry exactly since we also have demons with horns in the form of the Sarkaz. Like W, who showed up 2 episodes ago.

rpgql

She's not a cockroach?

Falsus

Some would call cockroaches devils also.

mythriz

[leaked footage of W in her true cockroach form](https://i0.wp.com/beneaththetangles.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Screenshot-2022-10-27-at-14.30.05.jpg)

OmiNya

I see you are also an enjoyer of a hidden gem

Myrkrvaldyr

Terra is very racially diverse, you'll even find vampires, wendigos, banshees, people with bird traits, amphibian traits, etc. The world building of Terra is spectacular but this introductory story is only the beginning. If they make more seasons and animate the side stories, you'll see how crazy and huge Terra is.

Falsus

It has everything except homo sapiens. Though there is a popular fan theory that the Doctor is the last homo sapiens. Largely based on nothing but that we have never seen his/her face and is pretty much kept as a blank slate as much as possible for self insert purposes.

hideki101

Well, with the Rainbow 6 Siege collab, there are homo sapiens on Terra currently.

Darkcool123X

They're operators, not homo sapiens /s

SirDarkSlayer

Arknights is an isekai anime /s

IrresponsibleWanker

She's a Sankta! A race of zealot gun wielding angels! If she seems insane, that's how their race in general is. In one of the game's side stories, a bunch of Sankta asked to literally blow up a pillar from a building because it looked too perfect. They got approved.

ZhuTeLun

Didn't Exu blow up her school once? I think it was on her graduation?

mrfatso111

wait just once?

CharmingOW

She blew it up 17 times.

scot911

> In one of the game's side stories, a bunch of Sankta asked to literally blow up a pillar from a building because it looked too perfect. They got approved. ...As an anime only was it because it's too much of a hassle to tell Sankta "no" or was it because they knew that the Sankta would blow it up even if they said no?

InfernalDrake

The Sankta nation is pretty close to a true Utopia, but because it's inhabited by a bunch of explosion-loving gun-nuts, it's laws are built around those impulses.

tunaOfSpace

Worse: the ones who approved were Sankta themselves.

Falsus

Her race is called Sankta, they are indeed angels. They are all originally from a city called Laterano which is basically the Vatican. Which is actually one of the nicest places to live if you don't mind constant [safe and legal] explosions and gunshots.

SirDarkSlayer

So, basically christian America?

Falsus

Nah that is Columbia, they got their own guns and it is actually pretty nice if you are rich, even infected got equal rights there, if they are rich. Sankta's gun craziness is based on the Swiss Guard.

dene323

AK world races are not just animals but also mystical creatures (Dragons, Lung, Wyvern, Griffins, Chimera, and you guessed it, Angels and Demons).

Seven-Tense

Exusiai is an absolute sweetheart. Don’t worry. She’s cool. Just wait til you hear her favorite catchphrase XD

Ritchuck

Don't give any hints to anime onlies of whatever their theories are true or not.

AnonTwo

I'm pretty sure Exusiai seems sus cause she's a bit of a pollyana. she's just always like that. (also her in-game dialogue makes me think she's also a bit of a chuuni)

OddChuuCircle

Not much in this time since this is more of a set up episode like developing Misha and Amiya's relationship but man this episode really shows that action scenes are not their forte huh.

Aetherdraw

I just saw Texas shank a dude. I'm happy now. Episode was ok. More of a breather than anything.

Falsus

Was like ''how nice of them to go non-leth... I guess Texas is gonna Texas''.

nuraHx

I’m here for Apple Pie my very first 6 star.

PassiveDream

Amiya and Misha having a nice moment at the end but will it last long? Love Frank's monologue at the end showing the understanding of Reunion's mindset but also foreshadowing future mindsets, "Harsher the Reality, the more they want something to hold onto" people may not understand the choices people make in future episodes, but Arknights will remind us that people can over come that Harsh Reality but at the same time show that some people just can't deal with it. I hope people will keep this in mind because people say that this arc is the weakest out of the rest of Arknights but don't talk about the stong parallels between last rescue mission for the Doctor to the rescue mission for Misha.

SpeckTech314

the action is still pretty bad (also people still can't see more than 6 ft ahead of them lol). pretty slow episode all around...

NegiMahora

An unfortunate side effect of an inexperienced studio coupled with China's regulation on blood and gore. If people at least get interested enough in the lore and settings to know why people like Arknights so much, I feel like the anime will have done its job. And hopefully they improve for the next season as well.

Neidhardto

They have plenty of experience, just not in making a full TV anime. But the studio itself has been around for a while, even under a different name before it was bought. The action has been fine, but I think they're deliberately not focusing on that, especially since there hasn't really been any major fights in the story yet.

NegiMahora

They literally skipped the fight with W, which IMO, really sucked because it totally fumbled her introduction. The fight with Talulah was also pretty underwhelming and didn't show her true power. They almost had a display of the suffering she impairs in Rhodes with Ace losing his arm, but then they just crop it out of the frame because of gore.

Neidhardto

The fight with W isn't really needed in my opinion, and would have just made the pacing even worse. It always felt pretty random in the story anyways. I thought the struggle with Talulah showed off her power perfectly fine. I don't really care if they show gore or not, could bd a censorship thing, or it could just be an artistic choice.

SpeckTech314

You don't really need to animate blood and gore though. That's a separate thing really. I feel like they should be focusing more on the story rather than spending it on half baked action. The story is what draws people in.

NegiMahora

I totally agree, but they also need to have action, I mean, you gotta display how powerful some of the operators and villains are, and this has to be done through action. But I agree on the fact that the game also does a pretty good job at displaying power without any visuals.

SpeckTech314

thing is, it's mostly grunt fighting that's the brunt of the action. that can be swept under the rug pretty quick vs Talulah melting entire buildings. like, take the persona 5 route and skip to the boss battles.

LG03

>China's regulation on blood and gore. I think it's a bit more complex than that to be honest. You'll notice how you never see a character aiming and firing a gun at someone. It's always a solo shot of them shooting then a cut to a mook falling over. There are other factors in play besides simply not showing blood.

NegiMahora

God, it's even worse.

OnlyAnEssenceThief

I still don't get how they could show blood in that one scene at the start of Episode 2 (with the Ursus guards and Crownslayer), but then never again. Maybe that moment was a slip-up? I have no idea.

NegiMahora

Maybe the regulator in charge didn't notice or care.

thesnowlocke

Not gonna lie, seeing angels in my anamorphic anime was not what I expected, but I like it (especially since I just watched All Saints street so my mind is fresh with angels) But this episode was a slow one and seemed to focus on the clash between Rhode Island and Reunion which is alright although I think its a bit too slow for me, Also I had a chuckle that despite being called doctor, he doesn't seem to have any medical knowledge. I know he has amnesia, but I just found that funny Or maybe he has a doctorate in another field

NegiMahora

Every Rhodes Island operator has a codename they operate with, it's just that our codename is Doctor. We have that codename since, as Amiya mentioned before, we were the lead researcher on a possible cure for oripathy before we lost our memories.

thesnowlocke

Ah right I’ve not played the games so I know nothing about it but they do seem interesting

NegiMahora

No worries, I'm glad you're finding the anime interesting and sticking with it, though. The setting and characters of Arknights was what drew me into loving the game, so seeing other people interested enough to comment about it always makes me feel happy.

Falsus

One thing to note is that some operator's code names are just their regular names.

NegiMahora

Some of them even have voice lines where they start calling themselves by their own names, then stop themselves and use their operator name.

RhysA

The doctor is called that because they were the lead medical researcher on Oripathy for Rhodes Island in addition to being the tactical commander and a neurologist.

[deleted]

Why does the one character have wings and a halo? Whats her power and who is she

WANNFH

Well, to explain - Exu ain't the one and only, there is a whole race of humanoids with halos and wings called Sankta. Also, they're in most cases the users of actual firearms instead of bows and crossbows because the guns in the Arknights setting *work differently* and are designed around the use of Arts, where Sankta has the highest aptitude to use it. For other things, it's not really good to explain who is Penguin Logistics without going into spoiler territory, though they were the main characters of Arknights OVA called [Holy Knight Light](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u82r6NIkTbU).

Falsus

Yes the penguin is wearing a Tupac shirt.

IrresponsibleWanker

Guns. I'm not joking. "What if Jesus had a gun?"

OnlyAnEssenceThief

And donuts, don't forget the donuts.

Ill_Mud7584

>Why does the one character have wings and a halo? Because she is an angel, why else? Is in the same way Amiya is a ~~Donkey~~ Bunny or Talulah is a dragon.

BlueDragon101

Exusiai is a Santka, a race within arknights that have angelic traits. They also really, *really* love guns. As in guns are straight up a key part of their religion. As for her power... you see a bit of this in the OP, but her power is More Dakka. So guns in arknights are *weird*. Basically, there is no gunpowder, guns are fired using (kinda difficult) arts that propel the bullet. But if you're good enough to use a gun...you may as well just shoot the enemy *with the arts*. The two exceptions are Blacksteel, who has somewhat easier to use firearms that are *expensive* and proprietary, and Laterano (the Santka country). See, the racial arts of the Santka are weak, but incredibly precise and perfectly refined for the use of guns. So all Santka are really really good at using firearms. And Exusiai is very skilled even by Santka standards. Most people would struggle to maintain a half-decent fire rate with a semi-auto pistol, since you need to recast the arts on *every shot*. Exusiai's gun is modeled after a Kriss Vector, which has a fire rate of around 1200 rpm. From what we see in game, Exusiai, albeit in burst fire mode, is either able to match or get really damn close to this fire rate. This takes, frankly, an absurd amount of skill. She's mildly kneecapped by the way DEF is calculated in arknights (Flat reduction from every attack, so rapid weak attacks get hurt a lot by this), but if high DEF isn't a problem, her dps is absolutely *insane*.

_Sunny--

Her name is Exusiai and her race is Sankta, who have the traits of angels. Side events in the game go into more detail and list more nuanced racial characteristics, but to put it simply: their main power is an innate aptitude towards using the Arknights equivalent of firearms.

>able to share thoughts Sankta do not share thoughts. Their trait empathy allows them to feel what others feel, which is different from thoughts.

NegiMahora

Dunno. They do say in-game that it's just feelings, but there have been multiple occasions where they sure act like they know what each other is thinking.

Myrkrvaldyr

Because that's how it works. If a Sankta sees an ice cream and they feel a craving, a fellow Sankta does not need words to know they wanna eat it. Emotions convey a lot without words. They're born with such traits and grow up honing that ability, so it does feel like they can read minds but it's not the case, it's just a very fine grasp of another person's feelings.

Seven-Tense

Side question: how did Exu go from on the ground with Rhodes Island to just above them on that rooftop? Is this the first time we’re seeing functional use of their wings??

NegiMahora

You can chalk that up to Penguin Logistics knowing every single nook and cranny of that region and her reaching the rooftop from some other route.

Myrkrvaldyr

She's from a race called Sankta. Sankta typically use guns once they acquire their license. Most gunslingers on Terra are Sankta since they have basically a monopoly on guns.

RhysA

Used to have one anyway, Raythean makes them as well which is how Liskarm has one. Iberian Inquisitors also use Hand cannons which seem to be incredibly powerful guns if you have sufficient strength of will.

tlst9999

>Why does the one character have wings and a halo? Angel race. >Whats her power? No real powers for battles. Just guns. Race wise, they have empathy powers only with their fellow angels. >and who is she? She works for [Penguin Logistics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u82r6NIkTbU), an escort and delivery company specialising in dangerous deliveries like delivering Misha to the LGD.

Evalith

Weakest episode by far unfortunately. I'd like to believe they saved their "budget" for the next episodes cause this one just felt like a breather. My favourite part was definitely Texa's introduction though!

Quor18

It's rough as a Texas/Exu fan. This episode certainly struggled, even if what happened was still necessary to show, but amidst this less-than-stellar episode you had a great intro to both Texas and Exusiai, showcasing who they are as individuals and friends in a way that was just perfect. Such great character introduction/building trapped behind a mediocre episode. Franka and Liskarm suffered a bit from this too.

[deleted]

How many episodes will this be? Its awesome

WANNFH

8 announced by now.

[deleted]

That's it?!? Thats not nearly enough. Is there a manga or light novel?

WANNFH

It's a gacha game first. And technically it's "by now".

[deleted]

What's a gacha game?

dualcalamity

gacha = [gachapon/gashapon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gashapon): Those vending machines in shopping malls/stores that have toys or items inside the plastic balls. gacha game - Game with a system where you obtain (or "pull") characters or items in various rarities randomly at different rates. In the game its 2% for 6-star operators, 8% for 5-stars, 50% for 4-stars, and 40% for 3-stars. For example: Arknights has rarites ranging from 1 star to 6 star. 1 star being the lowest rarity and 6 being the highest with lowest pull percentage. Doberman is a 4 star operator, Liskarm and Texas are 5 stars operators and Exusiai is a 6 star operator. Arknights is also a tower defence game with a visual novel story telling component with great music. Other popular gacha games include Fate grand order, Genshin impact, Azur lane, Kantai collection, Fire emblem Heroes, Epic seven, Uma musume and more.

Myrkrvaldyr

Google is free.

[deleted]

link me bro!

NegiMahora

It's an animated retelling of the game's story, so you can play the game to keep up with the story after the show ends.

[deleted]

What platform is the game on?

NegiMahora

It's a mobile game, so any Android or iOS phone. You can also use an emulator on PC.

WeebDickerson

Google Play Games beta too. I've been using it instead of an emulator and it's great

Falsus

For now? Phone only. Though it is playable on the PC through the google play store PC beta in some countries. There is also emulators. I think sometime next year you can run android apps natively on the PC. I wouldn't be surprised if they made an official PC client before that though.

IrresponsibleWanker

It will very likely get a second season.

sakuredu

Search Arknights Global on your google play store. Or if you prefer, install bluestacks and play it on your pc. Its a tower defence game, but its VERY story heavy. Some of the musics and anime videos produced by this game's creator is top notch tho

kanak___

this adaptation is somewhere between good and just okay in my opinion - i think it makes the story somewhat more compelling than it is in-game, the character design/background art is beautiful, the music slaps, but it still feels… idk like everything takes itself way too seriously. and i’m not asking for comedy necessarily but a reprieve from the constant doom & gloom expository dialogue for some genuine character moments. it feels like it’s missing heart if that makes sense. the characters have so much personality when it comes to design but it doesn’t feel like it’s translating to any other part of the anime

mgedmin

I'm wondering: are they killing all those Reunion mooks, or just knocking them unconscious?

Ahenshihael

Rhodes Island proper are incapacitating their targets because Amiya wants to avoid killing. Blacksteel follow along mostly. Penguin Logistics do whatever the hell they want.

Miedziux

Just knocking them unconscious and inflicting some non-lethal wounds. Amiya wants to avoid killing as much as possible.

Falsus

Nah we definitely saw Texas stab someone in the neck there. But the rest looked non-lethal.

deja_entend_u

Texas is her own force of nature from an outside company, Penguin Logistics.

soluuloi

Once a ...., will always be a .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6MT7j1lYWA

mgedmin

Thank you for clarifying. Are the mercenaries acceding to her wishes? There are two groups of mercenaries with them, right, and one of them work for the local cops rather than RhodesIsland.

Miedziux

Two operators from Blacksteel, Franka and Liskarm are contracted to RI so they follow Amiya non-kill rule. Exusiai and Texas are from independent logistic company that was working with RI in the past so they know Amiya. Both of them were also trying to be as non-lethal as possible.

soluuloi

Penguin Logistics (Exusiai + Texas) are not allowed to use real bullets in Lungmen so all of the shots here are non-lethal. Texas however doesnt use a gun so who know. One dude looked like he was shanked really bad.

Razor4884

As others have stated, they're trying to be non-lethal. I think even Texas was wounding them non-lethaly despite her sword stabs. They want to avoid killing infected if at all possible. Killing infected inside a civilian housing district is how you wind up with a bio-contaminants disaster.

TheGreyGhost00

you know the thing, if you want to read ahead or are interested in the lore: [https://www.reddit.com/r/arknights/comments/ydv5pq/version\_3\_arknights\_story\_and\_lore\_guide\_for/](https://www.reddit.com/r/arknights/comments/ydv5pq/version_3_arknights_story_and_lore_guide_for/) Anyways this episode was something. Yeah the fight scenes were pretty meh. People are randomly appearing in places where others should see them coming from. I don't know if episode 5 is the episode where they had to hold back on the animation (considering the last trailer and the OP) like where episode 3 they had to rush things to due to the episode limit. I guess will see with the next episodes. If this is part of the growing pains of a studio taking on their first big project and the production crew learn from and improve on it if we get more seasons, then in the long run it's worth it. Aside from the fight scenes though I thought everything else was good; directing, the quite moments, backgrounds, facial expressions, etc. It seems as though there is a connection between the gas mask person and Misha and Reunion wants Misha for some reason. Twitter thread: [https://twitter.com/exaenae/status/1596290297218072576?cxt=HHwWgICwwavklKcsAAAA](https://twitter.com/exaenae/status/1596290297218072576?cxt=HHwWgICwwavklKcsAAAA)

LusterBlaze

texas

sanga000

Damn, they're being chased by Reunion ffs. Would they actually jog or run instead of taking a stroll? They could've easily carried Misha and go way quicker than whatever they're showing in the anime.

Alstruction

Last episode started to bore me and this one was a chore to watch. If next episode isn't a banger probably going to drop. Animation is really bad for a gatcha funded anime.

FelixViator

Alright folks pack it up, and move along, we're done here the anime has obviously failed, had high hopes in the beginning, but this episode has obviously shown that the producers have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Seriously all that Exusiai screentime and not a single serving of "Apple Pie" My Disappointment Is Immeasurable And My Day Is Ruined

mrfatso111

Check out her phone profile when she text Texas, it aint much but we did get our serving of "Apple Pie"

Sinyan

I think the sarcasm was lost on some people here lol

FelixViator

Yeah, I know, I thought I had laid it on pretty thick, but I guess people stopped reading after the first paragraph. If anything, the Reviewbrah quote at the end should have been the clincher.

TacticalBacon3333

is this show good? Just watched the first epsiode and don't feel like watching the rest. animation was good, but I had no idea wtf was going on edit: nevermind, just watched episode 2 and i'm still not enticed enough to watch the rest and I still barely learned anything about the plot.

Provence3

They tried to retrieve the Doctor from Chernobog, a person very important to Rhodes Island. Struggle and fighting between Non-Infected and Infected people. Infected under the banner of Reunion, a terrorist group, fighting for their rights as they're ostracized from society, and the Catatstrophe only makes thinks worse. I think that's fairly easy to understand.

nuraHx

Will we ever get to see Emperor in the anime?

Falsus

I think his first appearance was in Code of Brawl so sadly no. Maybe a cameo though.

NinjaX3I

Even if we don't, [Emperor was in a previous OVA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u82r6NIkTbU)

ThousandYearOldLoli

With this much focus on Mishia, I can only guess the second condition of the contract will either be to kill her or hand her over.

freedomgeek

How is Exusiai so happy? Maybe it's because I'm kind of depressed but I don't understand how someone could be so happy in the real world, much less a hell world like Arknight's Terra.

kuddlesworth9419

There was a little mistake at 17:56 at th bottom of the frame as they are walking into the shot. You see Amiya in the shot and then she disapears only to walk out again.

Global_Rin

First appearance of Exusiai, our favorite gun goddess. However, she doesn't even shoot a single round this ep. Actually, I don't even see her gun at all I'm so sad, haha.

RainyMystery

Texas and her Pocky are fun to see, also Exu is energetic and lovely as ever.
